This was one of the strangest restaurant I have ever been to but it turned out to be really good food! The menu has super random things on it. We had an order of the deviled eggs with carrot chow chow and those were awesome! I ordered the gnocchi bolognese and my friend got the Ethiopian rice bowl with chicken. They were both really flavorful and tasty. The waiter was nice and the for being the only waiter he was pretty good and he kept our waters full. If you’re in Roanoke I would give it a try!

There’s a serious lack of healthy juice bars in the 540, so if you’re craving a veggie based juice, this is the spot. I had the«grasshopper» and they happily took out the apple and replaced it with carrot. Didn’t try any of the warm food, but if you need a juice, this is your spot in the Roanoke valley.

Small and quant restaurant. The restaurant has a small store front and a opening to the marketplace next door. The marketplace has several other vendors and a large dinning area. Inside the restaurant front is four small tables and a small bar area. Theres also several tables outside. The restaurant itself is very clean and has a modern feel. They have a good variety of delicious meals, sides, and drinks. All food is locally sourced. Service is great with friendly wait staff.

Absolutely amazing! All natural and very tasty. Everything is made in house and the staff can tell you exactly where the ingredients came from. Nothing is ever frozen and it is all made to order. Can not find anything that even compares to Firefly in the area.

Very nice to get a kambucha on tap and a vegetarian gluten free offering. Vegan except for the honey etc. Great faire. Tasty Imperial Incan dish(see picture for ingredients) a good portion, nice spicing, and flavorful. Service was hugely friendly and attentive, décor was eclectic and interesting wihtout scraficing clean, efficient and businesslike. Clientele was very varied and lots of regulars. They have a good formula and offering of food. Great job! Thank you Unilocalers for sending me here on my long drive and travels.

Very good and creative. Portions are little small for me but I like eating there. I always recommend it to people

Glad we pulled off the hwy from our long road trip for dinner at this local place. Dining on the sidewalk patio was a nice break from sitting in the car. Staff and food was great. We had the falafel pita sandwich and tofu steak sandwich.

As a vegetarian I was excited when this place opened. I have been in quite a few times for food as well as juices. I must say that the Incan Bowl is quite fantastic but on the expensive side.

The curry chicken pita was delicious. Very nice staff and such a wonderful addition to the downtown eatery scene. Dog friendly as well — they gave water to our little pooch once we sat down.

Recommended to me by a friend when I said I wanted a glass of wine and to sit outside while working, this was perfect. I had the grassfed sirloin panini which they put in a wrap for me, the house salad and strawberry sorbet for something sweet to finish my amazing meal. Everything was fresh and I’ll be back when I’m in Roanoke. I’d highly recommend if you’re in the area or live here. Great outdoor space in downtown market area and my server Kristin was helpful and fun to talk to.

We have been here twice for lunch. We have had friendly service and tasty food. They have several GF options and have several choices for vegetarians. It is in the Market area, a block from the Taubman Museum of Art. We are fans. It isn’t fine dining. But, for what it is, it’s perfect.

I’ve been here twice and have loved it both times! The food is simple, pure a and fresh! Tried the Indonesian tofu bowl and it was really wholesome and filling. The juice here is also incredible. The Maui mantis is one of my favorites!

Great food! Friendly to my vegan girlfriend and my omnivorous self. The one knock I’ll give them is the ambiance. Very cute and café-like, and the art is great, but it doesn’t do justice to their excellent dinner menu.

Great food, great service. I took off one star because many things on the menu were not available.

I had the tofu barbecue bowl($ 11). It was extremely tasty. I wish I could eat it every day. The sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy, the vegetables were fresh, vibrant, and locally sourced. The service was ok.

Finding this place was like I’d stumbled into food court heaven. Firefly Fare has a small but healthy and allergy-friendly menu, staff are great with questions and modifications, and you can get fresh juice. It’s easy to get meals that are vegan and gluten-free, there’s at least one option that’s both, and avoiding other allergens is trivial. Also, have I mentioned the fresh juice?

OMG I loved this place! I wish it had been here while I lived in Roanoke but I might not have been into such healthy fare. Stopped in last Saturday while staying at Hotel Roanoke for my dad’s birthday party when I wanted something healthy after cake and cookout food for lunch. Found this place on Unilocal — walked across the pedestrian bridge to the market building — and yum! I ordered the Incan Bowl — which if I remember right had yams, rice, quinoa, black peas, corn salsa and kale. I thought it was fabulous and it was really healthy which made me happy. My boyfriend, being less adventurous, ordered the Curry Chicken Salad with greens, curry chicken salad topping, almonds, strawberries(we got blueberries instead bc they were out), and grapes. He didn’t love it but he’s really picky about salads anyway. I tasted it and it was pretty good though I thought mine was better. It’s a small little space in the dine in portion but it’s cute, clean, and well decorated. We showed up about 45 minutes before close(8:15) and the guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful, answering menu questions and promptly giving us water and suggestions. The drinks were served in cute mason jar mugs and the menus are stuck inside actual old record jackets(mine was Willie Nelson). They had some really good dessert options, like fresh fruit parfait, but we were tired and it was late and I didn’t want dessert, just healthy wholesome dinner. That is exactly what I got and I’ll be sure to come back next time I’m in town and staying at hotel Roanoke and need something to eat. I hope this place sticks around!

Soup du jour, chicken gumbo, and a local beer hit the spot, having traveled all day with my daughters. Enjoyed my locally sourced meal. Excellent service, thank you Elliot! Mediterranean salad greens delicious, basil dressing superb!

Firefly Fare stands out as one of the only healthy, flavorful options in the Market area. Coming from NYC, it’s easy to be a food snob. But this place held its own with a fresh, locally sourced menu consisting of mostly vegetarian dishes — though there are a few items with chicken or bacon in them if you need some extra protein. I tried the Incan bowl, which got some good Unilocal reviews, but I thought it fell a little flat. The curry chicken salad was pretty fantastic though, and so was the Bbq tofu. I’d definitely recommend that over the Incan bowl. Also check out the sweet potato fried too. Those were probably the highlight of the entire meal! As far as price goes, it’s a little more than your usual fast casual food — so about 9 bucks an entrée. Came out to 55 bucks for 5 of us. I’d come back again if I was in the area. It’s good, clean, local food that won’t leave you feeling fat and lethargic like many other options in Roanoke.

Dropped into this place on a recent Saturday at lunch. Came on the«food court» side because the rest of my family couldn’t agree on where to go. Had the $ 10 crab cake sandwich special on focaccia bread with a side of quinoa hoppin’ john. Perfect combination of classic regional fare and contemporary eco-friendly cuisine. Yes, you can get a decent crab cake for $ 10. Not huge, but very little filler and good! Since I’m from LA, this lunch helped support my objective of eating as much blue crab as possible while in the area(three out of four days!) Next time, I would like to relax on the patio outside, have a beer and enjoy!
