First visit, atmosphere was nice, service pleasant & the Balsamic Chicken tasty. The salad dressing was good too. Looking forward to going back.

Everyone has their go to. That dependable hole-in-the-wall restaurant where they still care about you, the customer. It’s comfortable as it is familiar and if you close your eyes you’d swear the food came out of your Grandmother’s kitchen. You drink it in and savor every bit of it. The best part is the Friday night only guitar guy who crushes it on everything from Van Morrison to Willy Nelson to Neal Young and everything in-between, including the obscure stuff that you only thought you forgot the words to until the melody brings it all back. It’s the full sensory experience that always pulls us back, like the tide with the moon’s gravity. We can’t say enough good things about Italian Bistro. We’ve been coming here for years. The food is always consistent and good. The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is quaint and charming. Sammy the owner always stops by to chat with us and last night was no exception. My wife’s parents who live in Austin always want to come here when they’re in town because they love it so much too. The menu is varied and everything is reasonably priced. They have the best New York style pizza this side of, well, New York. My favorite is the Veal Parm. I crave this dish like some people crave Tex-Mex. Sammy and his staff have a good thing going here. Give them a try, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Always clean, cozy, fast service good food, friendly staff, decent prices, good portions and best fried calamari on the negative side I would like to get a detailed receipt not a hand written with no prices on it. This is where the locals go! We love coming here.(Bread looks better than it tastes a bit dry)

The food was eeeck, no flavor, nothing said Italian about it. What everyone is saying and the service and staff is on point, they were disinterested in being at work and service appeared to be the last thing on their mind. Drive on and find somewhere else for Italian food, it is clear why only two tables in the whole place were occupied.

I’m not a huge Italian food fan, but this is the best pizza around. Employees are always friendly

I love this place. The owner brought us a special seafood appetizer with shrimp over artichoke hearts, mussels and clams that was amazing. We brought our own wine we bought in Napa Valley. BYOB is nice. I had the special that was awesome. Service was great and the owner sat and chatted with us. Great value in a family owned restaurant.

This place is decent. I like Italian and this is about middle of the road as far as the places I have tried out. Nothing really spectacular but also nothing really bad to say.

The Italian Bistro is one of my favorites! Everything on the menu is delicious! The atmosphere is warm and cozy with dim lights. It’s a perfect place to bring the family or have a date night.

I came here for lunch around 2:30pm on a Monday. There wasn’t a single other person in the restaurant, and the waiter was just sitting in a chair looking out the window. Obviously, we were seated immediately. This place had a good italian vibe to it, and had an old-fashioned classy look to it. The only issue I had was the waiter had such a thick accent I couldn’t understand what he was saying, and he didn’t sound very happy to be working there. I got a veal sub and it was really good. Expect to spend around 12 $ per meal. The place looked a little more upscale than the food they cooked.

My family ate here last night to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Our experience at Italian Bistro was pretty bad. We were seated right away, but then waited 15 minutes for someone to come to our table for the drink order. We should have seen the writing on the wall and left at that point. We eventually got waters and the waitress opened our wine and took our order. We ordered a pizza for my son, the calamari for an appetizer and two entrees for our dinner. The calamari was perhaps the worst that I have ever had. It looked good, but the rings were so tough that it was almost inedible. The pizza came out rather quickly, and then we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. We finished our bottle of wine before our food got there. I think that we were there over an hour before our food came. The taste was good, but not great. The temperature was just warm and not hot. Our«dining experience» took an hour and a half. The service wasn’t just our table either. Another table got up and started to leave when the waitress stopped them and said that their food was ready. They went back to the table and their food then came out. We won’t be back after this experience. Go to Café Italia instead — it is the exact same food anyway with better service.

We have been going to Italian Bistro since it opened. I’ve never had a problem with the service, it is dark but I enjoy the ambiance. It helps me forget that it is in the old Dairy Queen building. The food is great and the prices are on point. The owner is a nice-ish guy. The Calzone is Awesome and the Spaghetti with Mushrooms is my favorite. Would highly recommend them if you are in Roanoke!

I have went to this place three times due to my collegues love with italian food. But every time I have went to this place the waiter decide to be rude to us and says very rude and racial remarks at us. Now I can take a joke and all but when a waiter walks around us and says racial remarks and acts like there aren’t any problems with his rudeness I dont know if that is normal. I may be over reacting a bit, but there are no ways to treat a customer like that when he or she expect to have a good service for a business that operates around it. I would definately don’t recommand this resturant if you care for a good service as well as good food. I would imagine what they would do to my food when they act like that in front of their customers… very much disrespected and low expactation for this place.

This is a cheap staple for a lazy weekday night. The entrees are large and priced incredibly well, but it’s not great food. The marinara is watered down and they usually only put a little bit on your dish so you end up with a ton of dry pasta. The salads are watery and they desperately need to drain their lettuce before serving. I want to love this place, but there are simply too many issues for me to truly enjoy their food. Their pizza though, made this pizza hater enjoy pizza. It’s New York style and simply delicious. I hate eating inside here, so we almost always get it take out. It’s a candle lit place with rude servers that are far from attentive.

I tried the chicken Parm, my third and most favorite dish here. Huge portion and great flavors, I didn’t think id find one better than savianos in euless, but I did! I’ll keep coming :)

A lot of regulars, which should tell you something good is going on here. A fantastic place for a great meal for not a lot of money. Well known for their vodka sauce, don’t be afraid to have a dish ordered just the way you like it. Fresh basil on top? No problem. Meatball in the middle of your pasta? Sure thing. And great sausage. Get to know the staff and owner, they are good people, Plus, BYOB and they deliver.

Let’s call this a 3.5 star review. It’s better than 3 stars, but wasn’t quite up to 4 stars on this visit. I had lunch on a Wednesday with some co-workers. The restaurant is cozy on the inside, but not overly opulent. The pre-meal bread service featured a simple sourdough, about average in quality, and pre-packaged butter. My side portion Caesar salad had a few too many«ribby» pieces of lettuce, but what was there seemed fresh. The dressing was more of a creamy style than the traditional. My side of spaghetti and marinara didn’t seem exceptional, but the pasta was cooked to a nice al dente, far from a guarantee these days. For the entrée, I chose the veal piccata. It was presented on a nice, heavy square plate, and featured some of the biggest capers I’ve ever seen. The sauce had a nice tang and overall flavor, though it could have been more decorated with lemon slices and/or shallot. The veal itself was fork tender with a small effort, and had good taste and texture throughout. Overall, it was a very serviceable dish. I’d certainly go back, maybe trying some other dishes to see if four stars were justified. I’ve gotten a little more picky about Italian, as there are now so many mediocre places, often featuring some kind of meat(usually chicken) swimming in gloppy red sauce. The other dishes I saw at the table on this visit did NOT seem to suffer that fate, so I’m hopeful.
