TRATA is a great place to have and drinks with friends– the whole place has a big-city, relaxed vibe, and its multiple lovely floors mean that there’s a ton of space for a group of any size. The drinks are consistently great(I love me their dark mojito), but the food is definitely hit or miss. We’ve had entrees a few times, and they’ve been pretty inconsistent: some great, others, not so much. We’ve been happier with the small plates for the most part. On one memorable occasion, when the server asked how the food was and we told her that the wings we’d ordered were just so-so, she said something like, «yeah, those aren’t really great, I know». Wish we’d gotten that warning beforehand! Again, TRATA is definitely a place I’d recommend to someone looking to have drinks and some nibbles in a cool space with friends, but other Rochester spots would be a much better pick for a nice dinner out.

TRATA is a place you can take a group of friends and be sure that everyone can find something that they like on the menu. The menu is a bit hit or miss though — we had some great items, but some that left a bit to be desired. I had the amberjack, which came on a bed of tomato stew. I thought the fish was a bit overdone, but the flavor was ok. My boyfriend had a burger and I tried really hard the whole evening to get him to swap meals with me. ;-) It was so juicy and delicious! I gotta try to order this for myself next time. The duck quesadillas are the best. The duck flavor is not strong, but the caramelized onions in this are superb. Skip the mac and cheese side and the calamari appetizer with black beans though. The restaurant can get a bit loud because it has three floors and the layout is super open. The rooftop seating area is super cute!

TRATA is my go-to for a happy hour drink or to hang on the rooftop. Things I love: — Cava rosé — Duck quesadillas — Lettuce wraps — Artichoke red pepper dip — Brussels sprouts salad … Pretty much the small plates are a win. You can’t go wrong there. But the thing that keeps me from coming more often is the inconsistency with the kitchen, primarily for the main entrees. It’s great one time, then I make a return visit for the same thing and the meal is totally off. It’s happened a few times now so I stick with what I know is good and return for that. The space is beautiful and I love having it in my neighborhood. So for me, TRATA is an appetizer and happy hour drink kind of place. Love the staff and everyone is awesome behind the bars! During the winter I like to cozy up to the bar upstairs, it’s often less crowded than the one downstairs.

I normally have a good experience – not today. First, my Kobe burger was burned to a crisp. I returned the $ 18 burger and asked for it to be remade and packages to go, as we were in a hurry. Later tonight, I eat the burger to realize it’s undercooked. Clearly this is a message sent by the cooks. Great job TRATA! Your restaurant/kitchen is a disgusting joke. I’ve been in the food service industry to know that your chefs are either too stupid to know the flame is too high, or they’re trying to send a very bold message. Needless to say, my company will not be dining here for dinners anymore.

This a a fun spot with a rooftop patio. The patio has a bar and tables for dining. I came here for drinks with friends on a Friday. They have a wide range of cocktails, and of course the bartenders can modify and make as needed. Our bartender was attentive and accommodating even on a busy Friday night, which I appreciated. I’ve also been on another occasion for brunch, I had the chicken and waffles, which was excellent. Chicken was super crispy and waffles were perfectly cooked! My friends also got the daily brunch special which was a skillet, and also delicious. My bloody Mary was made perfectly with tons of spiciness and delicious flavor, you can choose add on items for this, such as bacon, olives, blue cheese celery stalk. In addition to the outside rooftop patio, there is a full bar on the 1st and 2nd floor as well as plenty of room for dining inside. Pretty trendy spot!

TRATA is well, TRATA. I think the most appealing thing about it is the rooftop and the attentive bartenders. The food is ok and I can’t even describe it as glorified bar food. Every time I come here is mostly for drinks. But it is what it is, a good place for groups and celebrations. From the food menu I do enjoy their wings as long as they are super crispy. Other than that, I don’t care for them if they aren’t crispy though many people could care less if they are. They only serve them one way, tangy, BBQ-ey and sauc-ey. Their fish tacos are sub par and forgettable. I enjoy fish tacos, but not all fish tacos are great. Like even bad pizza is good pizza? No… just no on both accounts. I’ve always wanted to try their brunch so I will be updating my review when I do. I also would like to try their Ramen whenever it is on special. Other than that TRATA is just another casual posh-ey place for drinks that was never the sports bar I heard it was intended to be.

Trata is a yuppie restaurant in a re-purposed former armory. The menu features some unusual fusion dishes — many of them with an Asian flavor and quite good. They also have a huge beer selection on tap. If you pay attention as you walk through the bar area you will see a barrel room off to the left where they store the tap beer. This is quite a nice place to meet with friends and colleagues after work and for dinner. It brings the San Francisco or Soho feeling to Rochester. Drawback is the noise level. The place can be quite loud. The first floor seating area is not quite as noisy. Find a table back against the wall for best acoustics.

I don’t care for Trata. They are getting 3 stars instead of 2 because our waitress was outstanding(wish i remembered her name) and they have an outside deck on the roof which is great in warm weather. We only came back here because I had a gift card. We have been a couple other times before and have been less than impressed. The drinks are highly overpriced. For example, a beer cocktail with peach purée and lindemans Peach beer is $ 9.50. It comes in a 10 ounce glass and has 2.5% alcohol in it. That is ridiculous. Our waitress said the smaller drinks have a higher alcohol content and in this case it is not true. A Michelob Ultra Light is $ 5 so you can guess what the other beer prices are. They took the only thing I considered eating was taken off the menu which was the gnocchi. I broadened my horizons today and had the duck quesadilla and Fried Chicken and biscuits. I hate to admit it but these were both very good. The Fried Chicken was right on point and the quesadilla came with a light yogurt sauce which mixed well with the cranberry inside. The chicken quesadilla was $ 12 and the Fried Chicken was 18 $. We also ordered a side of the mac and cheese which was $ 6.50, and worth every penny. This is by far the best mac and cheese on the planet. I might have been impressed with this place had I not been here a couple times before and had bad experiences. We’ve never been served dinner bread and i know they have it because we’ve seen other tables get it, my boyfriend’s Thai coconut shrimp dish tasted exactly like plastic and had to be sent back, the lettuce wraps are laughable, our other servers have been less than enthusiastic to be there and there is NO happy hour. Oh! My biggest gripe is that they make a peppadew ranch dressing in house, but they wouldn’t let me have a side regular Ranch. Obviously if they make it in-house they have Ranch, but our waitress told us that management had to say no to people who want regular Ranch. Excuse me? What’s the big deal? That in itself will make me not come here. Some people can’t eat peppers like myself, and the few and far between in between who ask for it why wouldn’t you make them happy? Like I said, we only went back because we had a gift card and although we had a more enjoyable experience this time it will take a lot for us to come back.

This review is a little late in coming, but I wanted to do it anyway. This is the first time I had ever experienced Trata. I took my mom for Mother’s Day brunch and we had a fantastic experience! Everything from the service, the atmosphere, and the food was amazing! We had coffee to start which was excellent and snacked on the bread basket while we waited for our meal. The bread basket came with their freshly made carrot cake jam. I could eat a bucket of that stuff! For brunch, I had the eggs Benedict. So good! It was my first time having eggs Benedict and I have no regrets. My mom got the huevos rancheros which were fantastic as well. The cilantro was a nice addition to that dish. Needless to say, we will be back!

This place is pretty cool. It seems very out of place for Rochester but I’m digging it all the same. It has a very chic feel to it and a swanky interior with a modern design to it. The rooftop bar is my favorite but remains closed during the Winter months due to the snow. While I do like the rooftop it can get pretty hot and overwhelming in the summer months so I’d just suggest sitting at the bar which is covered or asking for an umbrella for your table for shade. The menu selection is very reasonable and I believe it has something for everyone. I really like the Lettuce Wraps and the bacon Wrapped Sirloin. I’ve also had their all American Burger. My favorite was the Bacon Wrapped Sirloin because it was well prepared, seasoned and had very little fat on it. If you are looking for something lighter I would definitely recommend the Lettuce Wraps that comes with a Spicy soy and cashew sauce. The lettuce wraps can be a little messy since you have to make then yourself and I’m not the best when it comes to wrapping those things. They also have a fairly nice drink selection with beers, wines, liquors and non-alcoholic refreshments if you are looking to be conservative. If you are not looking to be conservative and like beers I’d recommend the Scotch and Scotch. It’s a Scotch Ale with a shot of Scotch in it so I’d say this is a drink to sip. On a hot day I’d recommend the Trata Bellini which is a beer with Peach Purée in it which I think even a non-beer drinker could enjoy. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being overbearing and the restrooms are awesome. If you are ever in the Rochester area and looking for something reminiscent of city life come and check this place out and you will not be disappointed.

Disclaimer: I didn’t eat any food on this visit… my review is only for the cocktails, which get 1 star. The extra star is added for the nice outdoor patio(which is worth checking out… just order a beer). The ongoing craft cocktail craze is great… until places that shouldn’t try to jump on the band wagon. Enter TRATA. We tried two drinks, and both were undrinkable(as in, left them on the table and walked out undrinkable…). The Honey B was the sweetest alcoholic beverage I’ve ever had. I knew it was going to be rough when the bartender added Wild Turkey to a drink listed as having Elijah Craig. I’m no connoisseur, but some people are… note to TRATA: if you are«cool» enough to call out the brand on your booze, you need to use that brand or ask the customer if they mind something different. The drink tasted like sugar water, with not even the faintest hint of whiskey. The Mexican Artillery was worse — literally lip numbingly spicy. The few sips that I had ruined my dinner(2 hrs later) and dessert(3 hrs later), and my lips continued to burn the next morning(12 hrs later… think about how wind burn feels on lips and you’ve got the wonderful side effect of the Mexican Artillery). I love spicy food/drink, but this was ridiculous. No lime, no tequila, just fire and salt. Did I go in expecting a sweet and a spicy drink? Of course… I can read. But these were flat out terrible and I can only hope that they were poorly made and not always this way. (An aside… I also watched the bartender short someone else’s drink some tequila because the bottle ran out… open a new one maybe??? Add more ice should not be the first thought…)

5 stars for customer service as the manager reached out to me regarding my experience! I will definitely go back to Trata as I really appreciate the professionalism! Had dinner on their rooftop deck! Absolutely beautiful! It’s a very fun and relaxed atmosphere. There is a bar as well. They have a good selection of draft beers and wines by the glass. The specialty cocktail list is short but still nice. We each ordered an entrée each. I had the trata burger which had a delicious beer mustard and short rib on top. It was very tasty but I ordered medium rare and it came out medium well :(My friend had the fried chicken which she said was amazing! Overall better than my last experience but still small disappointments. Our server was very sweet and attentive but the hostesses were kind of aloof. Expensive for drinks and food but the rooftop deck made it worth it.

I think this place is just a hype. I only really like their Mac and cheese. The bread crumbs on the top just give it an extra crunch. The tacos were very good. The scallops and fish with polenta weren’t very appetizing. Our waiter was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. Will I come back? Maybe. But not for awhile

I’ve been here a few times with friends and with my boyfriend. I love the atmosphere and just the way the restaurant is designed. It’s unlike most restaurants around here. The one dish that really stood out to me was the fish taco appetizer. My boyfriend and I were so impressed by them when we visited that we really consider coming here just for those. They do tend to change up their menu every so often, but I really hope they don’t take those off! My only complaint is that the risotto in my scallop entrée was a little under. Could barely eat it, and I’m not one to complain to servers, so I just dealt with it. Eating out on their patio/deck when it’s nice out is lovely. Plus, you get good lighting for food pics, if you’re into that.

Brunch at Trata was fantastic. a ‘foodie’ friend of mine introduced me to this place. The layout is gorgeous and trendy… the exposed brick and wooden table décor is a HGTV dream. And the service was prompt and kind. So let’s get into the eats: I had the chicken and waffles, which is NOT my go-to brunch meal because not everybody can make good fried chicken, especially if you’re not in the south, but Trata had somebody in that kitchen who knew how to put the stamp on a classic dish… it was delicious! My friend had the eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce, which she claimed was«perfect». We also shared a side of pork belly sweet potato hash… and it was phenomenal! My only regret. I wish I visited this place more often when I was in town. this place is definitely a required try while in Rochester area.

Love this place! Iv come here a bunch of times over the last two years or so and never remembered to write a review till now… So we went for a bridesmaids gathering, a little mixer of sorts so we could all meet each other and have a night out. The hosts were great and say us promptly at a community table so as to get us a table faster. They were very attentive with drinks and I feel like between all of us we sampled most all the interesting cocktails on their drinks menu. My favorites had to be the dark mojito and the bourbon something or another lol. Oh and while standing at the bar we got a free round of honey prosecco shots! So for food we did a bunch of small plates: the pork belly steamed buns, duck quesadillas, lettuce wraps, loaded fries with braised short ribs and two orders of their amazing onion rings. The food was as usual awesome there was not one dish that wasnt delicious and I’d have to say my favorite was the pork belly. Lastly the look of this place is great they have several levels and even within each level each space has its own slightly different decore while all being cohesive it creates little pocketed areas for dining, and hanging out giving it an open concept yet the feel of a more private dining experience as well. Also cuz I’m a weirdo and these are the things I notice… i loooove all their different light fixtures!

We had a positively marvelous Sunday brunch there a couple weeks ago. The service was excellent and the ambiance adorable. I had the Huevos Rancheros. It was NOT traditional and when they first put it down I took a mental pause. But it was divine. The unique twist was crispy corn tortilla(hard like a chip) with fried eggs, black bean purée, pico de gallo, southwest slaw, cheddar jack cheese, and avocado hollandaise. The flavors and textures made me very happy. We had hoped to share the cheddar hash brown casserole and to try their Bloody Marys, but they were out of the casserole and we were there before noon on Sunday(Darn you, New York state Liquor laws!). So instead we shared the French Press coffee for two and it was delectably and aromatically awesome. Hubby was happy with his omelet and our guests enjoyed their baked French toast and pork belly sweet potato hash. My only complaint is the chairs are not very comfortable. We sat their long enough where I actually threw my back out standing up(I have a bad back, normal people would have been fine — but I will have to bring a pillow next time… they were very uncomfortable). But overall we LOVED it, and were surprised at how affordable it was. Will definitely go back.

Salmon salad done perfectly. Espresso and all the right touches. No rush. Lively. An experience in a beautiful setting. Electric.

TRATA is almost always a fantastic experience. I don’t think I’ve ever ordered food here and not liked it. The duck quesadillas, fish tacos, steamed buns, lamb sliders, scallop risotto, burgers, and pretty much everything are crazy good. TRATA also has some creative drinks. The bacon bourbon cocktail is a masterpiece… though pretty heavy on the bourbon. My only real complaint about TRATA is that it’s always very noisy in there. The ambiance is very cool(exposed brick, unique light fixtures, multiple floors), but everything echoes and reverberates throughout the place, making it difficult for quiet conversations.
