Amazing Guacamole and good tacos but they didn’t have chips ready for our guac and queso. How do you call yourself a Mexican restaurant? We will give you one more chance Michael…

Food was okay, no real flavor. Chicken taco was bad, I threw it out. But service was excellent so 3 stars! CLOSEDNOW

Maybe one of the best breakfast tacos that I have ever had! The problem is that they are not consistent with the hours that they advertise being open. The last 3 times that I have been to Michaels they have been closed. Friday 9am, 2 Saturdays 9am, are standard hours for an establishment like this to be open. When I arrived there today there was a taco truck backed up to the door with a gentlemen loading up. I asked, «are they open?» The gentlemen replied, «I dont think he is going to open today.» Why is Michaels cooking for the taco trucks but not for his restaurant customers? You can have the best food in the world and all of that doesnt matter if you are not open for business to serve it.

I just noticed I gave Michael’s a bad review even though I went back later, and again and again, finding the place a local favorite of mine. The tacos are different from other area taquerías… people who know what they’re talking about call it «Sonoran» but all it seems to me is the tacos are bigger and filled fuller with bigger chunks. Kind of like you take a typical taco and zoom in on it. Even with the slightly different style, the key ingredients are there for a show-stopping taco. Those ingredients would be a tortilla, and something delicious to go inside. All the tacos are good, but I particularly enjoy the carne guisada, and the al pastor(when they’re not out of it.) I even love the family atmosphere here. At times it may seem like a «day care» atmosphere, as I believe some of the employees are working parents who bring their kids to work, but that’s cool with me. I’d bring my kids to work too, but they’d probably just spin around in office chairs and burn bandwidth watching cartoons on Netflix.

I’ve hesitated to update my review on Michael’s for quite a while now because I became friendly with the owner, and I like him. However, I feel some odd compulsion to let Unilocalers know that the hours are inconsistent. I never know when or if the store will be open. It isn’t even that the hours are changing, it is the fact that too frequently the location is closed when it says it should be open. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve been by several times in the last year to find closed doors. The last time I was there it took over 45 minutes to get my order of two tacos, too. The tacos are good, Michael is great, but be wary about making the trek to Michael’s Tacos because the hours vary based upon Michael’s ability to staff the restaurant.

I’ve tried several different menu combinations, and have found them all to be excellent. The service is prompt the quality is always top notch. I highly recommend this joint.

I had been meaning to check this place for a while and finally stopped by this morning for some tacos on our way back from the dog park. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype in my opinion. The cashier was actually really friendly and took my order right away. My order was pretty simple, five tacos and a burrito, but I had to wait around 20 min before it was ready. Not cool when you’ve got a 7 yr old kid and a dog waiting in the car, oh yeah and my pregnant wife. So that was kind of annoying but not a deal breaker if the food was good. Which leads us to the food… Migas burritos was dry and bland and tasted like a corn tortilla inside a flour tortilla but not much else. Bean tacos and chorizo and egg taco were good enough. Al pastor taco had lots of pork, but my wife said it was really fatty and didn’t eat much of it. So I don’t think I’ll go back again but at least I can say I gave it a try.

I love breakfast tacos, and have had my share of good and bad. Michael’s Tacos is pretty good, but it’s too bad it’s not a bit closer to me! I had the breakfast combo with sausage, bean, cheese and a chorizo, potato, cheese. A lot of taco joints make the sausage too dry, the tortillas rubberty, and the cheese unmelted. But this had gloriously melted cheese, decent tortilla(still not homemade quality), spicy chorizo, decent sausage(slightly on the dry side), and a good avocado jabanero sauce(yum). All in all, it made for a good breakfast!

When considering what business should pop my «first review» cherry, I considered a couple of options: horrible hangout, or the best of the best. Michael’s Tacos has clearly won out as the absolute best, and thus first, Unilocal review since I joined in 2007. Food: BARNONE the best tacos we have had since moving here from Los Angeles. Trust me, we have been on the search. Yes, their sign is small. They save money on that to buy you the best ingredients available. Their brisket literally melts in your mouth. The potatoes are thick and hearty. Their cheese is not bought in a bag, but shredded fresh right there as you wait. Every single taco I try they outdo themselves. Michael employees so many family members, and they are all as equally helpful and fun as the next. It doesn’t hurt that they bring their adorable baby every day– how can you not love that face?! We come here every single week. The second we leave, my husband and I are waiting to go back. We work our weekend plans around our trip to Michael’s. Do yourself a favor– go. My suggestion– try the queso, no matter the time of day. They mix it with the green avocado salsa(homemade!). YUM

Some of the best food comes from little, nondescript restaurants — like Michael’s Tacos. Shakespeare asked, «What’s in a name?» Well, at Michael’s Tacos, everything’s in the name: Michael took our order and the tacos were made fresh. We went for breakfast and I must recommend the chorizo and egg. WOW! They had fresh pico de gallo and salsa, which made the meal perfect. For being right on I35, this place is a little out of the way. It’s a small slot in an older shopping center, with a plain white sign with red letters. You’ll miss it if you’re not careful, but it’s worth the trip around the block to come back if you do.

Great tacos The sign is really small. They on the East side of I-35 past and North of the McNeill exit. Look for the Whataburger sign. They are right behind the Whataburger sign in the same strip center as Half-Price books. The tacos are great. I tried both their mighty mike taco(eggs, bacon, potatoe, cheese) and the paco’s taco(picadillo). The pacos taco was excellent. The breakfast taco was pretty good but not great. For breakfast tacos, Taco Xpress is my favorite. Overall, this is a great little place with awesome friendly service.

This place is freaking delicious and savory. The single reason I don’t go to Michaels as much anymore is because I am lucky enough to have a fiancée who can mimic and best most restaurants recipes after a taste or two. If she is not in town and I am craving delicious tacos, Michaels is where it’s at. Staff is genuine and friendly. This is a locally owned establishment and it feels like it.

Found myself in Round Rock on business with a couple of co-workers. They said they wanted a Taco Shop, I naturally turn to Unilocal for support. Top rated resto in Round Rock is Michael’s Tacos. Fellow Unilocalers can’t be wrong so we give it a shot. It is a little difficult to find, but the GPS on my phone got us close enough. Between the 5 of us we ordered a little bit of everything. I started with a Real Sanchez burrito, unlike his dirty cousin the Real Sanchez was spot on. All of the ingredients were super fresh, and even though they were out of burrito wraps they made the best of it with two soft taco shells. Two of my co-workers ordered the guac and the queso with chips. Both were made fresh on the spot and tasted awesom. After I finished plowing back my real sanchez I went back for more. Restaurant owner(Michael?) could see that I was a noob, and offered up some suggestions. For round two I went with a Binks Brisket Taco, I never thought of having shredded brisket on a Taco but it was excellent. It was loaded with meat and pretty much put me over my intake level. As we were chatting it up he was asking me where we were from, when I told him NY he mentioned that he had been accepted to the CIA(Culinary Institute of America) but had turned it down cuz it was too cold ;-) Anyway I would def go back to this place. I’m hoping to make it back before we leave town.

A great attitude to match the great flavors. This is a great place to show that you do not need trendy shirts, catchy slogans, or pop culture icons to prove that you need to bring attention to your food; as it should speak for itself. I am not a fan of many taco places, but Michaels does good justice to the namesake food by providing a smile for every customer, and food for every palate. I decided to drop in for the lunch specials, and I got a value meal that was well worth the frugal price. Upon entering Michael informed me of what was fresh: the pork was just finished, the brisket finished its oven sauna, and the chicken was spicy off the flat top. I choose to just have a 2 brisket taco combo(w/o potatoes) w/lettuce, tomatoes, and a cold drink. I will admit each taco was a double handful of fresh ingredients. For UNDER6.50 I had a meal that was not laden with grease or fried items… it felt good to be a carnivore. The salsa bar seems to be the watering hole for all the condiments. Though it was low in supplies, it showed that the stuff was made fresh daily and that people keep filling up on it. Thats a good sign to show you what people like. The salsa in all three heats have great flavors. Some have heat in the front of the taste buds, while others blend to get you in the after taste, truly balanced. All in all, I will go back when I have the time. He is a good man that is working hard to make his customers happy. I literally heard the same comments from people as they walked out the door. No need for flashy advertising; word of mouth, and Unilocal check-ins will help you find a great taco in this off-beat strip center.(it did for me) Michaels is a good place for a value meal when you want your taco in the morning or a burrito at lunch. Keeping it simple and keeping it good.

There are few things in life better than the aroma of fried or grilled meat. This made me love Michael’s Tacos as soon as we walked through the door. Our family visited for the first time yesterday. We were greeted by wonderful meaty smells, which only made us hungrier. Michael himself welcomed us and patiently helped sort out our requests. We ordered the Mighty Mike burrito, al pastor and carne guisada tacos, and variations of pork chop tacos(with cheese, with cubed potatoes, etc). At the salsa bar, we helped ourselves to pico de gallo, red salsa, green salsa, avocado green salsa, onions and cilantro. The tacos were generously filled and very tasty. All were made to order and arrived piping hot. The homemade salsas were bursting with flavour and colour. Everything was fresh and obviously made with love. If this place were in our neighbourhood, it would be our second home.

Michael has definitely brought spice and heat to Round Rock with his tacos. Two taco combo, carne guisada & brisket + potatoes and cheese, both meats were cooked with alot of love. Flavor, texture, quantity were all grade A. The condiments were all fresh, it’s pretty evident that they were handmade and the cilantro & onion mix is an extra 2 thumbs up from me. Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, but these tacos were well worth the short wait. My 2 tacos & drink came out to ~$ 7.50, seems a tad expensive for two tacos but these suckers fill you up and the taste is well worth the money. Too bad my office will be moving south next week, this place would be a great addition to our lunch list. I definitely want to try the pork chop the next time I stop in. I can’t wait.

Tastalicious Tacos! I had the combo — two tacos and a drink — and that is some of the best damn carne guisada I’ve ever had. Rich gravy, lean meat, perfectly cooked potatoes. The tacos are stuffed like a fat cuban cigar and served in individual foil. Right off the stovetop into your mouth! These tacos are like 34819 better than Torchy’s… but they don’t have the variety or the close location. My friends had every other type of taco — chicken, pork chop, ground beef — and all were swooning at the table. It was like the 1800s but no one was wearing girdles. The green salsa burned my FACE off but the flavor was so good on all of it, I just kept my head down and my ice water at the ready. This is a definite fave if you’re in RR. The guys at the counter are super nice and oh, if you become their fan on facebook, you get a free two taco combo. Thats right baby — free, fresh and fanschmastic.

Thanks, Unilocal, for telling me about Michael’s Tacos! Once again I’m a fan of a small place with great food and super nice people! I stopped by on Saturday, which happened to be fan appreciation day. Michael was giving a free taco to his Facebook fans! How sweet! Although I was more than happy to pay for all of my tacos, I thought it was a great promotion.(So I guess if you like his tacos, you should become a fan on Facebook!) We tried a breakfast taco, pork chop taco and carne guisada taco — all for less than $ 8! I made a point to try all four sauces, too! Everything was delicious and fresh! I was really impressed with all of our food! Michael was so, so nice! I’ll definitely be back when I’m in Round Rock and hungry for a taco!

John B. told me about Michael’s and how much he liked it, so I thought I would go over and give the Taco place in Round Rock a try. I have been twice now and liked it both times. The first time I tried the breakfast tacos with drink, I chose sausage and egg and cheese, and they were excellent and large. I have only been to Torchy’s once but I find these taco’s just as good. Of course Torchy’s has a much larger menu. I went back and tried the lunch tacos which included fajita steak(made from Angus beef) and lettuce and tomato, the lettuce was not the standard iceberg lettuce but various leafy styles of greens, I was surprised they were great I wanted more. Michael(the owner) was very nice and has a good thing going for his Taco business. I plan many more trips to eat here. Hey to those who like Mexican coke, yep he has it. Would I go back? Yahoo! Yes I will and I plan to take some friends as well.

I saw the new sign and decided to drop in and try this place out. The sign on the door said that they had closed at 2pm and I started to walk away when some guys standing outside assured me that they were open. So I went in and was so glad that I did. The owner assured me that if he was in, the store was open. I ordered three carne guisada tacos with beans and cheese and I have to said I was completely blown away. The beef was tender and tasty with generous portions. The tortillas tasted fresh and fluffy and the three different sauces he gave me to sample were just amazing. One red and two green with red being mild and the two verdes being medium and hot. They were all flavorful and made perfect additions to the tacos. Michael encouraged me to friend the restaurant on Facebook and write up a review on Unilocal. After my first bite I knew I’d have no problem recommending the place. After the sauces I knew I’d be back often. I can’t wait to go back and try out the breakfast tacos. Update: I’ve continued to eat here 2 – 3 per week trying out all the different varieties of tacos and I have to say they are still right on the money. If you are in North Austin or Round Rock and want tacos that are out of this world I still can’t say enough good things about Michael’s Tacos.
