Think of sushi quality the is just one step above buffet sushi. Check out other sushi places.

It has closed this location for good :(The phone number no longer is in service. It was only a matter of time since the business has been super slow all the times we were there. Tetsu is nearby as a consolation.

Unilocal for sushi. Arrives at store. «Closed on Mondays, effective as of May 16.» Disappointment.

— Locale Destination — It’s on Colima Rd and Fullerton Rd in Rowland Heights. It’s in a shopping center«Night Market» or something like that. It’s right next to «Phoenix Food Boutique». It’s kinda small and looked cramped. Décor is fairly simple. Bar seating, booth attached to the belt conveyer of revolving sushi. If you can’t see what you want on the belt conveyer, you can simply ask the sushi chef or your server. Appetizers took a while to come out. Plenty of parking. The staff are friendly wherever location you go(it’s a chain restaurant). But the service is fairly slow — wherever location you go… — Gluttony Expedition — Cut rolls don’t look good unlike the Fullerton location — Smaller size and poor looking. Sushi is still cheap and decent. They still have«trio» and other cool combo deals that Fullerton location no longer offer. But Fullerton seemed to have more varieties on sushi. — Conqueror’s Deduction — Fullerton location offers better quality«looking»(it’s a chain — the same ingredients but chefs in Fullerton is clearly better) sushi than here. The sushi size is a little smaller than Fullerton location. But unlike the Fullerton location, they still offer 9pm to close 50% off happy hour sushi deal here…

FOODPOISONING!!! Now obviously when you go to a place that has sushi revolving around the restaurant for 2 hours, it’s not gonna be fresh. This is the reason why my boyfriend and I ordered everything straight from the menu so that they could make it fresh for us. A few hours later we’re both in bed with upset stomachs and throwing up in the middle of the night. So so so gross. NEVERCOMINGBACK.

Ever since this place changed to Gatten Sushi, it’s gone to hell! The only reason I keep coming back is because I’m usually at Phoenix next door and my daughter loves sushi. Yesterday we went again, for the third and last time. All three times my husband or myself have placed an order, they ALWAYS manage to screw it up! The kid only eats nigiri shrimp. How difficult is that? For 6 – 8 pieces it’s a 15 – 20 minute wait. That usually turns into 45+ minutes. Yesterday I asked for 8 pieces and instead the kid puts me down for 8 orders! Are you freaking kidding me? To top it off they gave us the wrong sushi. Even though I had to literally point to pictures, so they could know what sushi I wanted. That shows how much they know about the sushi business. These guys have no freaking clue what they’re doing! As much as we’ve been trying to give these guys a chance, I’ll NEVER waste my time here again! This place used to be packed. Now it makes sense why it’s always empty.

I’ve been to other Gatten Sushi places(the one in the West Covina mall and Irvine) and I gotta say, if I ever go back to Gatten Sushi it will be at those locations. Came here yesterday with 2 friends around 2:30 and it was very empty except like 2 – 3 tables. We got to sit wherever we want and were given the menus promptly. The first thing I was like ”what the heck” was that there wasn’t any sushi on the conveyor belt! Like it wasn’t even moving! All they put were plates with the name of some sushi they served… probably just for decoration. I don’t think you should call it ”revolving sushi bar” if you don’t even have anything on the conveyor belt :\ My guess is that maybe it was because hardly anyone was there at that time but still… that defeats the purpose of calling the place a revolving sushi bar! Since they didn’t have the conveyor belt working, we had to write down our order on a piece of paper. My friend used the Japanese names for some of the sushi(because that’s what they’re named on the small sushi menu they have on the table). We placed our orders and shortly after the waiter asked us what everything was because he didn’t know the Japanese names for the fishes. I guess it was our fault for putting the Japanese names instead since we went off the small menu on the table and not the actual Gatten Sushi menu… so I won’t hold that against them. There was only 1 sushi chef working at the time(as far as I can see) and our food came quickly. We ordered salmon, tuna, yellow tail, salmon roe, cucumber rolls, spicy tuna roll, salmon otoro with radish, and shrimp for our first batch. HOWEVER the chef soon told us they were OUTOF yellow tail AND salmon roe. Um??? Isn’t it bad for a sushi place to be out of fish? :\ Guess they didn’t restock… Since Gatten sushi is like the lowest rank tier sushi(for me at least) I didn’t expect much of their fish. Their salmon looked pretty good, but tasted so cold I thought it just came out of the freezer. Tuna… disappointing. It looked sorta like those plastic sushi you see on display in restaurants & tasted average. The one I did like was the spicy tuna roll though, it was good. I didn’t eat the cucumber roll or shrimp so I’m not sure how those were. My friend did enjoy his salmon otoro with radish and ordered it again. We went for a second round and got a spicy tuna crunch roll, tuna, salmon, and otoro salmon with radish. My spicy tuna crunch roll was very disappointing. I was expecting it to look like a normal crunch roll with the roll all battered around the crunchy tempura batter but NOPE. They put only a tiny bit of it on the top of the spicy tuna roll… :\ so sad. The salmon otoro looked like normal salmon to me… so I asked my friend if it tasted different and he said yes and I’ll take his word for it. HOWEVER, our order of tuna never came! By that time, a few people did come after us(like 3 tables) and it still not considered busy. it was still pretty empty. There only seemed to be one waiter working and one sushi chef… I saw someone else in the back but I have no idea what he does there. We then asked the waiter about the tuna and he went to go check up on it… yeah it still never came. What irritated me was that the sushi chef was watching TV. not sure if there was no orders at the time or what. ALSO, another thing that irritated me was that the waiter didn’t tell us right away about our order of tuna UNTIL we decided to stop waiting and just get the check. He said that they were getting the tuna and asked if he still wanted it but by then we’ve waited long enough and just asked to cancel. For 3 people it costed I think like $ 54? So not worth it after what happened :\ Don’t think I’ll be coming back to this Gatten Sushi. I was going to give this place 2 stars but I think that’s being a little nice.

SOGROSS. I was so EMBARRASSED that I chose this place for me and my friends on a night out! The fish was NOTFRESH at all, one of the first times I was eating and thinking to myself«oh God, please don’t let me get food poisoning» at the same time. So much so that I could only down TWO plates. Yes, TWO, before I felt totally disgusted and scared I’d be throwing up the rest of the night. I swear, the fish almost looks and feels like its been frozen before. I mean, that would explain why the hell my SASHIMICRUMBLEDRIGHTWHEN I PICKEDITUP. MUSHY and did NOTDESERVETOBESERVED. And the price is ridiculous. Especially for the kind of crap they serve. Worst sushi place I’ve ever been to.

My bf and I have been coming to Gatten Sushi for over a year. However after our dining experience yesterday, we will no longer be visiting. Initially, Gatten Sushi provided decent, quality sushi, but it’s been slowly declining and yesterday was the last straw. I’m almost certain that they’re probably under new management, and this has definitely caused a steady decline. Most plates use to cost 1.50 or 2.00, but now everything that is worth eating is at least 3.00 a plate. When we sat down, there was absolutely NOTHING on the conveyor belt aside from their selection of «desserts» and some nasty looking California rolls that look like they’ve been there for a while. Don’t get me wrong, the waitresses were very attentive and tried to make the eating environment more enjoyable. However, the sushi chefs act like they don’t even want to be there, and they’re ALWAYS out of ALBACORE! Overall…quality has gone downhill. Their«seared» items are pretty much cooked all the way through. Some sushi pieces that we saw were SO discolored. –sigh– Save your money and go somewhere else. Goodbye Gatten.

Came here last week because my original plan for lunch in Little Tokyo was ruined by traffic on the 60 freeway. It was already 1:45PM when I came back to Rowland Heights and you know all Japanese restaurants close at 2PM. Gatten Sushi was the only closest place for sushi that I could think of. I did not have high expectation at all because I knew it was not the place for good sushi. But I didn’t know it was THATBAD! The fish tasted like plastic totally! The same plates just kept rotating. They had very weird sushi like salmon with mayo. I guess they wanted to cover the unfreshness of the fish with different kinds of sauce. They even had takoyaki and gosh they tasted horrible, cold and hard like stone. It was so bad that even Costco sushi(the ones in the boxes) would taste better.

This place is OK. We ordered from the menu. The fish was decently fresh, but of course I had better and for about the same price at Sushi Stop in West LA. The rolls were so tiny though. The best thing here was the ootoro salmon. So good. But that was about it.

August 5, 2013 Spent the Monday afternoon wandering around not knowing what to do. So, we went shopping for food at 99 Ranch and then shopped at Daiso before going to Jungle Tea Bar for some desserts(ice cream/shaved ice). All the sudden, we grew weary and hungry and we decided to go to Gatten! I’ve always wanted to go to Gatten, but never made it in. Ts «lets go», so we went! We ordered 7 plates of sushi, each all $ 3.50 for two-four pieces of sushi. Our bill came out to $ 28 with tip. The food is ok, but I’d like my food to be fresh and not circulating for a long while. This is a good place to get your sushi quick, if you don’t have the time to wait. But GOOD food??? It can be if you order it from the server/waiter and not from the rotating belt. Nevertheless, any time with the bf is always a great time.

Hey new owners of Gatten Sushi, have you noticed that your reviews have nosedived? You are charging more money for lower quality food. The staf that was once meticulously trained to be on point and accomodating is now aloof and unattentative. This is known as «bad business» and the regular clientele that once loved Gatten(including me) are not going to visit your establishment anymore.

3.5 stars. Located in YES plaza off of Colima and Fullerton.Rd. One of the better revolving sushi bars I’ve been to. It still can’t compare or compete with Kaisen Kaiten in Costa Mesa, but Gatten Sushi is only a 15 minute drive from my house, so it’s much more convenient. I’ve always liked the revolving sushi bar concept, so I usually go for the fun experience. They charge you based on the color of the plates, so be sure to refer to the colored menu to check prices before you start taking food from the conveyor belt. Everything is so cheap and the quality of the food is acceptable given the prices. You pretty much get what you pay for. I always select a variety of nigiri sushi and cut rolls. If you want freshly made dishes, you can order from the printed sushi lists in front of you, so just grab a pencil and tally up what you want from the list. Be sure to put your table/section # prior to submitting the order! Things I like to order here(prices range from $ 3 to $ 5 per plate) : — Salmon Miso Yaki sushi — Seared Salmon Oshi sushi — Seared Salmon sushi — Mackerel sushi with pickled radish — Otoro Tuna sushi — Scallop sushi — Yellowtail sushi — Sweet Shrimp — Otoro Salmon — Eel sushi — Kobe Beef Tataki — Salmon Roe sushi — Otoro Yellowtail sushi — Dragon cut roll — Salmon Avocado cut roll — Crunch Spicy Tuna cut roll — Baked Salmon cut roll

I used to be a bigger fan of Gatten Sushi when it first opened, but now, the service & food seems to be going down. Although the dishes are the same, they no longer serve you with the same excitement as they did before. Now, they just ask you«have you been here before?» and if you have, they just leave you alone. I like the food, but I’m not sure how long the fish has just been sitting there since this place is never really crowded. I’ve been here on Friday nights, weekend lunchs, etc. and at most, there are a couple of tables occupied. I’d give it a 3-star, but I mean, it’s pretty decent for the price and I like how revolving sushis allow you to try more than one type of roll/fish. Also, it’s pretty cool when the sushi chefs yell welcome & thank you when you leave. Or at least, that’s what I think they say: P

This place is really cute and conveyor belt sushi is always a fun way to spend your meal time. My mom and I stopped by for Sunday lunch and wouldn’t you know it that they have a $ 2 rolls specials for Sunday lunch.(Anything that has ‘roll’ in the name is $ 2 despite what the placards say). I’d definitely recommend ordering off the daily specials as that food is fresh. I go the crunchy shrimp hand roll and the 3-piece sashimi. The rolls were good as you’d expect any sushi rolls. The fatty salmon was super good. I didn’t try any of the other sashimi beside the uni. The uni was good, but I’ve better uni before so I knew this was not as fresh. The servers were attentive and the older lady waitress was super cute. She seemed like she was plucked straight out of a Japanese ryokan and put to work at this restaurant. She probably contributed a lot to the higher score, but service and atmosphere is important and she definitely contributed.

I love this place! $ 2 yellow plates, $ 3 red plates, lots of choices of nigiri sushi and sushi rolls. We tried a lot, and pretty much all them were yummy. The mango pudding was so delicious, a must try! Just the service was not good, only 1 waitress was around. Other than that, a great place to have cheap and good quality sushi. :)
