Deep definitely feels like a community, except not the kind where you feel like an outsider if you’re not a regular. They have mats, blankets and blocks available for use if you don’t have your own, and they focus more on medatative yoga instead of cardio-type yoga. My only complaint is that they have pretty limited classes, and sadly, the ones I enjoy never match my schedule.

deep is a place of healing and community. The staff are gentle loving instructors and although mostly Kundalini Yoga, there are also classes in Yin and 5Rhythms dance — a moving meditation. Also they offer many workshop style classes where you can dive deeper and more fully into the practice. The Woman’s Warrior camp left me feeling strong and feminine. They also have workshops focused on men and children. You just need to walk in the door to feel the love. If you’re curious, try the 10 classes for $ 10. It’s the deal of the century. If you fall in love you can buy a card for classes to get a little discount on weekly classes.

Currently I am attending deep’s yoga classes on their 10 dollars for 10 days pass. Such a great introductory deal! So far, I like what I have experienced. The teachers are very encouraging which is I what I was looking for; rather than a military style of barking out orders for a class to follow, which I have experienced in other types of yoga. Most of the yoga practiced here is Kundalini Yoga. This type of yoga is definitely more for meditation and reflection. If your trying to get a good workout, this is not it. This yoga is spiritually based and needs to be approached with an open mind.

This studio has everything that, back when I was young and stupid(er), I hated about yoga. The chanting, the spirituality, the gong, the fact that every muscle isn’t screaming at you when you get home. Yeah, I love all of that now. Deep’s instructors mostly all practice Kundalini Yoga. And it has been such a gift! It’s exactly the right practice for this period in my life. But then again, we’re all seeking something right? And that something is probably in us somewhere, but we just need to get quiet and aware enough to access it. This is a great place to get the guidance to find it. It’s not easy, but it’s very focused on the mind-body connection, the breath, and is more gentle than hot yoga or hatha. The instructors take it really seriously but are also somehow lighthearted, too. The pricing is less than other places; I can’t deny that’s important. I just finished my 10-days-for-10-dollars and will re-up with a 10-class pass.
