I wanted to like this place. So much! Great company, cool décor, but all in all terribly run kitchen & service. On our way back to the City, nothing sounded more perfect than brunch in Sag Harbor, and Madison & Main seemed like a great option. It wasn’t crowded at all compared to the other places(which now makes perfect sense), so we decided to give it a try. We ended up waiting for over an hour for our food alone with empty water glasses and zero apologies. Overall, the food was expensive and cold. Womp. I heard The Corner or the gastropub down the street are better alternatives for better prices.

There’s a reason the average reviews for this place are only fair. That’s because it is!!! The four of us were seated without much delay, but that was the highlight of the evening. Servers changed on us, were unprofessional, disinterested, and food was mediocre at best. Some dishes were undercooked, others were over-cooked. Food came out haphazardly and EXTREMELY slow. Prices also were not cheap: salads @ $ 14; braised duck @ $ 29; swordfish @ $ 32, scallops @ $ 32. We passed on dessert, just to get out. It was noisy and loud as hell, so we couldn’t even carry on any sort of conversation amongst us, barely able to talk to the person sitting next to us. So, why bother???

In a destination setting, it often times, is difficult to source out worthy dining establishments. I’m happy to have found Madison & Main on my stroll through Main St. of Sag Harbor. It’s been a dreary and breezy day today so when I stumbled upon the open air restaurant I was quite pleased. I was immediately sat, no big surprise since it’s not high season, and was greeted by my server who immediately suggested I try the Pinot Grigio. The wine was delicious and priced accordingly($ 9 for a 6 – 8 oz. pour.) I ordered the little neck clams on the half shell to start and followed with the jumbo shrimp BLT. The clams were delicious! The highlight of the sandwich was the rustic cut steak fries. While the sandwich was tasty, it just fell a tad bit flat. I followed up my Pinot Grigio with a Malbec. Good choice, if I do say so myself. Everything was great until my server became occupied by her fellow employees who happened to be seated at the bar. Between them and the phone ringing, it was hard to get her attention and I was indeed ready for a second glass of that Malbec! Madison & Main offer an «open» kitchen, which wasn’t visible from my table. However, the expletives from the kitchen staff were more than audible. I’m used to restaurant work so it didn’t necessarily offend but I could have done without the dialogue. Anyway, I digress. The décor is absolutely gorgeous, the menu outstanding and the food, darn good. Other than being a tad overpriced(my lunch, which consisted of an appetizer, sandwich and two glasses of wine topped $ 50, pre tip) and the colorful language from the kitchen, I was quite pleased. The one thing though that does stand out is the empty toilet paper roll in the women’s restroom. The spare roll was placed on the counter(not sure by whom) as if it were the next patrons duty to refill… which, I did. That not withstanding, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to fellow travelers.

We both had an amazing bowl of chowder, huge portion, very tasty. Could have shared or had as entrée. The Chicken BLT was also a large portion, on nicely toasted bread. CBLT was served with huge steak fries, they were way over cooked, too crunchy and burnt.

We had a really nice lunch here. It was a dreary day in Sag Harbor so there wasn’t much to do. Plus, we had a 7 month old with us. We chose this spot because we knew if our daughter showed some vocal enthusiasm it wouldn’t bother anyone. My husband had a wedge salad with steak. It was a beautiful presentation and he loved every bite of it. I had an impressive lobster roll with nice wedge fries. I was glad to be enjoying a lobster roll outside of Massachusetts because I don’t mind herbs and seasoning on my lobster roll. I do not think the perfect lobster roll can only have mayo and nothing else. There was also a lot if lobster and it was tender and fresh. Service was great. I’m not going to lie, if you fawn over my daughter and tell me how cute she is, it makes be happy. I liked the dark wood and white table cloth. We don’t get as much these days so I liked being in an attractive place as much as I liked eating good food.

We arrived late-ish on a Friday night and were starving. The hostess was quirky and energetic, but we didn’t experience any rudeness like some of the other reviews mentioned. We were able to be seated immediately. The waitstaff was very attentive and professional. One of my friends ordered the organic chicken and said it was the best meal he had all weekend. I ordered the mussels and was disappointed, but later heard that mussels in the Hamptons haven’t been good lately overall and that some places have temporarily stopped serving them due to this. Overall I had a good experience here, but wasn’t wowed enough to feel like I had to come back.

We had a reservation for 8:30pm on 6/22, and the entire party checked in at 8:20pm. The blond hostess wasn’t friendly, and told us to wait at the bar as our table was not ready. We heard her tell a party of four that they are«lucky» that she’s adding them to the waiting list without a reservation. We patiently wait until 9pm and go up to the hostess to inquire the status. She just rolled her eyes and said, «It’s a SATURDAY night in Sag Harbor. What do you expect???» I then asked how long the wait might be, and she responded, «I’m HERE, and the tables are OVERTHERE. I can’t tell you what’s going on!» As I was going back to the bar, she seats the party of 4 that came without a reservation before us! We then approached the male manager and he finally took care of getting us seated. When the girl was taking us to a table in the back, she turned around and said that she had made a mistake, and that the table wasn’t for us and told us to wait. We were ready to walk out by then. However, the male manager came back and said we could sit there, and we were finally seated at 9:15pm. Wait service was friendly, but very slow. Entrees took forever to come out and a few times, the entrees for the wrong table was brought to us, and the dessert took almost an hour to come out, so they comped us for that wait. When it came time to pay, we had to hunt down the server to bring the check, and once we found someone to take our credit cards, that also took forever to get them back as well. The food, at least, was very, very good. It’s unfortunate that everything else left us with a bad taste, especially from the start. Unless they get a new management, we won’t be going back to Madison and Main any time soon.

Took 40 minutes to get the food when the place was empty. Charged for 10 steak sandwiches instead of one than said was a quantity mistake and changed the bill 10 minutes later. Ordered a hamburger asked for mustard 3 times and finally got it on my last bite. Don’t waste your time and money.

Luckily for us, my family sat down for lunch, when it wasn’t too busy. We were seated outside and ordered promptly. The décor was fresh, and the staff was friendly. Our food came rather quickly, and no orders were incorrect. We all loved the food, the prices were very reasonable, and overall it was a great experience.

Very rude! Not seated after 2 hours! Was told a 30 minute wait when arrived, then told after 2 hrs I would never be seated; after checking in several times. Left restaurant — never seated! Never going back to this NEW restaurant.

I cannot give this restaurant any stars but am forced to give it one in order for this review to even register. We arrived there and were told a 30 minute wait. We went to the bar and ordered some overpriced drinks and after 40 minutes were told our wait would then be 30 to 40 minutes more because people were lingering at their tables. After another 40 minutes and several more dollars spent at the bar my husband approached the hostess yet again to be told that he shouldn’t count on being seated at all. Absolutely unbelievable and clearly a ploy by the restaurant. Drinks were marginal and based on their ethics would suggest you steer clear! There are many restaurants in Sag Harbor which value their patrons and have competent help.

Great little spot. Does get a bit bizarre and very loud late night. Food is good and service is decent. Raw bar with chilled lobster, grilled octopus, and filet were all prepared perfectly and great!

Went to Madison and main tonight while on vacation. Although it was very busy and we never had a reservation they found a table for us within 15 minutes. Food was fantastic I had the NY strip steak on the bone and I can honestly say its one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Service was very good and everyone was very friendly. I wouldn’t say it was cheap, the steak was $ 40 but worth every penny.

Perfectly okay and I would come back if a friend wanted to come here. I would never choose it though. I had wedge salad with steak. Okay enough. Arrived with dripping in dressing when I asked for it on side. A redo. Details details. Service pleasant. Mussels bland. Eh.

if overly crowded, noisy and chaotic are your thing, M & M is for you. If you like soft shell crabs mushy and limp, over a bed of overcooked vegetables, then you’ll love Madison and Main. If expensive and mediocre is your thing, make a reservation now. Oysters and Clams were excellent but everything else was insufferable. We sat at an outdoor table in the back(less noisy) but the chaos around us was distracting and unpleasant. Felt like too many workers and everyone stumbling over each other. I will not return. Nor could I recommend as a dining experience.

Great food. The lobster roll was a favorite at our table along with the tuna app. This is a fun busy restaurant with great atmosphere. The wait staff seemed busy, but even our waiter who was training a new worker was able to keep up with our ever changing order and questions. Will for sure go there again. A great place for a date or dinner with the friends and family on a weekend night.

I’m very surprised at the negative reviews of this restaurant!(Their reviews on Facebook are all positive!) While there might have been some kinks being worked out when they had just opened, there seem to be none anymore! The wild shrimp and grits appetizer was so insanely delicious, I went back and ordered it twice in the short few days I was visiting Sag Harbor. The tuna ceviche was über fresh and tasty, as were the crab cakes I ordered! The watermelon and jalapeño margarita was so good, I indulged and had two! Service was polite and knowledgeable. I even saw one of the waiters do a fun, quick trick with a wine cork that kept a little boy entertained and mystified for a good ten minutes afterwards trying to figure it out :) Definitely going back!

I went to Madison and Main with my cousin and we had a delicious dinner with excellent service and no complaints. I was however disturbed by young kids of 15 bussing tables, is that really necessary? My waiter was very attentive and helpful and knew the dishes very well, and explained everything in a helpful way. He recommended the local green pea and corn soup which was the best soup I have had in the Hamptons. The Sicilian eggplant tuna was fantastic and I thought the combination of flavors was very creative and worked well. The chocolate bread pudding is a great way to end a meal and a good dish to share. I am looking forward to going back to this great restaurant but I do not want to see any more kids working there, let them play their video games instead!

BIZARRE– the word I would use to describe my first experience at Madison and Main. –EXTREMELYLOUD– noise level. –Restaurant is very CROWDED with tables and people, and there is only a narrow walkway in between tables to get to the bathrooms and the back of the restaurant. –Tables seem oversize for the space. –Menu– varied, items sound delicious, lots of options to choose from, nice raw bar menu –Staff– eclectic mix of waitstaff, few of whom seem to have ANY experience working as a waiter or waitress. –It was AWKWARD, awkward, awkward, to watch the waitstaff and runners work. Just plain uncomfortable. –There is a 13 year old boy(!!!) working until at least 10pm, carrying heavy buckets of dirty dishes and trays of clean glasses, filling water, etc. That was painful to watch, and is it legal? Many diners seemed bothered by this. –Some of the runners and waiters/waitresses had nasty/weird looks on their face, too much chatting, weird comments, didn’t seem like they had any idea how to work in a restaurant. Saw one waitress grabbing her belly and rubbing her belly that was hanging over her apron. It was just BIZARRE. –Our waiter was nice, it was towards the end of the night and he seemed to be one of the ones who had everything under control. –Also, many of the waitstaff had sour pusses on their faces, and didn’t move out of the way to let guests pass. BUT, there were many who consistently did let customers pass. The service just seemed very uneven. –MENUDESCRIPTIONSOFFOODAREEXTREMELYPOOR –Crispy stuffed meatballs– served with tzatziki and a mayo? What??? If you’re just going to say –Crispy Meatballs– on your menu and then serve them with tartar sauce and tzatziki, you need to TELLDINERS that. Don’t make people guess what style their food will arrive in. That’s EXTREMELYMISLEADING. FOODARRIVESWITHSUBSTITUTIONSANDDINERSARENOTNOTIFIED. –My mom ordered chicken and the waiter told us the dish came with spinach. She actually ordered a double order of spinach instead of the potatoes. Her dish came out with chicken and steamed brussel sprouts!!! Again, What? –Tuna said it was served Sicilian Style with eggplant and balsamic glaze. Not one mention of Caponata. Tuna arrived with ONLY tomato and peppers, and two tiny pieces of eggplant. I had to search for them, with a ton of raisins. There was not one mention of tomatoes, peppers, or raisins on the menu. WHYISTHECHEFNOTNOTIFYINGWAITERSIFTHEYRUNOUTOFFOODAND/OR HAVETOCHANGETHEDISH? Also, we were not brought bread which was good for my waistline but a bummer with regard to service. Food took an extremely long time to arrive. Two bathrooms in the back, and people line up and spill from the hallway into the restaurant. Maybe they have too many tables and too few restrooms. There wad always a line. Food actually tasted good, but the overall experience at Madison and Main was just weird. Please step up your game for this summer. I want you to last, the menu looks like it would taste good, and the price point is not crazy crazy.

We went for dinner two weeks ago and were not pleased. Boring, boring, boring food. Bland caesar salad — not even a hint of anchovy. Lobster salad sliders were a generous portion, but boring again, no real flavor at all. Chicken dish was totally overwhelmed by rosemary, no other flavor evident. Waiters were just ok, runners and busboys untrained and hapless. The place looks nice, but at this point, is nowhere near worth the money they are charging. Have a drink at the bar and move on.
