One of the best neighborhood bars. This place is a living piece of history with the aged wood and nautical décor. Every time I come here the bartenders are friendly, attentive and fast. Great place to meet people or play their famous ring toss game. It’s a great escape from the fancy Hamptons scene nearby, so leave your attitude at the door. Great selection of beer and spirits. One of the best bars in America. Come here and feel likes you are a character in ‘Moby Dick’ or ‘Black Sails’, …order a drink, make a new friend and enjoy the sunset.

Few people love a dive more than I… Murfs stole my heart from the moment I walked in. This relationship has just begun. A Sag Harbor staple.

Best bar on Long Island hands down!!! Jay is a great proprietor. Bartenders are sweet. Love the ring toss and darts, of course! Some hot messes from nearby yacht crews, but that’s to be expected, I suppose.

The bar has great character, feels like you discovered a corner of life you read about in Hemingway books. Good bar tenders and great vibes on summer nights.

Go-to spot for at home reunions. Except what?! Closed for the season? Not cool. This place is a mishmash of fishermen, kids right out of college from the area, kids who dropped out of college from the area, people looking for a still overpriced beer, hairy people, and more and more seemingly lost tourists who obviously came to the Hamptons to drink in a shack. The outside area is pretty cool when it’s warm outside, but otherwise come for the darts, stay for the weird horseshoe thing that surprisingly hasn’t poked anyone’s eye out yet.

There is nothing that can be said about Murf’s that hasn’t already been said. I had my first legal and illegal drinks here and over the decades have perfected the ‘baseline’ ring toss. Locals, weekenders and salts from the marina — you’ll find them all here. In the grand scheme of dives, this is the cliffs of Acapulco and everywhere else is the 1-meter springboard. The only door policy here is that you use the back door to enter so you don’t get impaled by a stray dart. Sag Harbor is the un-Hamptons, and Murf’s Backstreet Tavern is its Spiritual Center. Additional tips: — ask for the ‘dice game’ from the bartender. It’ll pass the time if ring toss is taken — check out the rare Frank Sinatra photo adorning the wall — note the alternative spellings Murph vs. Murf on the signage

Murf’s BackStreet Tavern is a fabulous bar. No pretense here. Just good times and good beer. With darts and ring toss are added attractions to the people watching. Jay, the owner, couldn’t be a more accommodating host.

Review from a summer weekend(2013). Laid back, divey and friendly staff and owner Jay. Crowd picked up and nice mix of locals, weekenders, sailors etc. cheap prices for the neighborhood… A reprieve from more formal SAG spots — but gets crowded which can be a good or bad thing depending on your mood.

I absolutely love this place, the only chill bar in town. However, I will not go back as long as they have that female bouncer at the door. I have subtracted 1 star due to the chaos created by, and the mistreatment we endured at the hands of this female bouncer on July 62013. She threw my sister on to the floor in an attempt to clear the line that she(the bouncer) had actually created by chatting with bystanders instead of checking IDs and giving out bracelets as she was apparently supposed to do. She was also extremely rude to the rest of my group, for unclear reasons. I realize this was a busy night, but there is no reason to staff your door with a small bitchy woman. That is how you drive away business. I leave these comments for management to absorb.

This is the best bar in Sag Harbor. The staff is polite and quick. The drinks are stiff, but not too powerful. I especially enjoyed the ring toss game. If you are looking for a pub to grab a cold beer or beverage, this is the place to visit.

I don’t know how or why I end up at this major DIVE bar, but every time I leave I think, Man I had a FANTASTIC time. Fun bar games, darts, ring toss, cheapish drinks. Good times. Good times.

Murf’s is my new favorite place in the Hamptons. It’s such an eclectic mix of people… young and old, rich and not so rich, maybe a celebrity or two. The owner is super nice, and makes everybody feel welcome. But you WILL get in trouble if you try to swing on the chandelier haha. There’s also a huge backyard if you want some fresh air. Murf’s reminds me of what going out in the Hamptons was like in the 90’s…and that’s a very good thing.

A local legend. Always has been, always will be. What a find if you’re in the area, this place is a must! And don’t get me started on the bartenders. Sarcasm and wit are what make them their tips! Oh and awesome building when you get inside. Lots of history there.

Best Spot in Sag Harbor to get away from the Beautiful People. We had a blast here, great outdoor area to mingle and meet new people, beer was cold and yummy, met a lot on great and interesting peeps. Great drunk game inside(put the Ring on the hook) Really cool old house made into a little bar, darts and a jutebox, we found some fun tunes. Very friendly bartender, all in all, we came, we had fun, we will be back.

I guess for a tad of karma, they built the new Sag Harbor police station right next to this place. I have a soft spot for dive bars and I was told this place would fit the bill. Murphs isn’t really a dive, its just an old spot. The building was just some one’s home about 40 years ago and then it was turned into this bar. The house was built back around 1860’s. And it shows. They have some good brands and the crowd was ok, no frat types. They have a big outdoor area in the back and this front area I bet is popular in the winter months. I was getting a Christmas time while in college vibe. I’m not sure why because it was August and I had a slight sunburn. If you want to do some serious drinking I would choose this spot. No harsh lighting, decent music on jukebox, a few cute girls here and there, you don’t really need anything else.

When I think of my beloved Murphs, I think of Summertime with a capital S. After moving to the west coast nearly six months ago, I am finally feeling the pangs of nostalgia as the warmer months approach. I’ll be perfecting the ring-toss once again on my next visit home– hopefully before this beautiful, dirty dive is rediscovered by the annual Shoob migration.(Locals, you know what I’m talking about.) This place gets 5 stars when I’m wearing my rose-tinted memory goggles. 2 Stars in the harsh light of morning when you come back to collect the credit card you left when you forgot to close the tab.

If you don’t like this place, there’s plenty of golden pears and sagg store like places to go. Ring Game: You are ahab. The Hook is the Whale. Irish Car Bombs: Get drunk. Faster. Unreal Juke Box: Like it’s pulled straight from 1998. Rub one elbow with a billionaire, and the other elbow with the local drunkard who will probably end up next door(at the police station) People watching gold mine. Literally every walk of life. Yes, the dartboard is right next to the door. You have to leave behind part of yourself when you walk into this place. You are reminded as soon as you walk in, through the darts: You are in Murfs. I’ve only had good pizza experiences here. Not gourmet by any means. But always made and served up with care. If things start spinning, or you need some nicotine, step out back. Big, gritty smoking and sitting area. Drinks can be pricey, but it’s worth it. Do NOT drive home. RIP Murph.

I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know. As for the night life, I am not qualified to say. The only thing I can remember about Murph’s, was coming here because the pizza was«great» as I saw this pizza being made, with ketchup, I almost lost it. I tried as best I could to eat this, but the image of ketchup on some sort of pita bread, with sargento cheese, did not let me stomach think of anything except for the toilet =x I am giving 3 stars because I am not qualified to say about the bar, I know a lot of people love this place. It is very tiny, and holds the rustic nature of a small town pub — just please, say no to the pizza!
