I’ve walked past Blackberry Café many times on my way to pick up lunch from the Crazy Bowls and Wraps location next door. On a whim, I decided to try this simple but cute looking little café. It’s cheery inside and while not the fanciest of places, it reminded me of the kind of café you’d find in a small town. Always a fan of a gyro, I ordered one to go and after a short wait and a little chit-chat with the friendly man behing the counter I was on my way. I don’t know if it was because I was just super busy at work and totally hungry, but eating that gyro was like a little brust of joy in my mouth. It didn’t have onion on it, but that was okay with me. I’d like to come back for a coffee and another lunch selection. Only bummer for me was that the sandwich came with a bag of Sun Chips, I don’t eat fried food and wish there was a Baked Lays chip option instead.

Again they are out of a bunch of menu items… lame. The tomato zucchini soup is delicious and super garlicky. If they’re not out of it that is!

This review is for breakfast. I stopped in for a coffee and bagel while waiting for my car at Firestone next door. The bagel was frozen and a little mushy and the coffee was just OK. They gave me a tiny packet of cream cheese and wanted to charge me $.50 for another packet, which I thought was crazy after paying $ 4 for a coffee and reheated frozen bagel. The woman working behind the counter was very sweet and we both agreed that the best coffee in town is Kaldi’s(just a 2 minute drive from here!). I wouldn’t come back here for an actual meal, but I’m giving it 2 stars because I’m happy there’s a place for me to sit and have a coffee while waiting for my car!

There was nothing specifically wrong with Blackberry Café, but nothing really stood out, either. On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, there were barely any customers… and this place is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Wash U. That, in itself, looks suspicious. If you’re facing the building, there’s a free lot for Wash U students to the left past the Firestone lot. If not, pretty much everything else around here is metered, including the other parking lot. There’s a couple free spots all the way behind the building at the very tail end of Firestone’s lot. Veggie wrap was heavy on the lettuce, light on the veggies, and they charge a $ 1 just to add hummus to the sandwich! Even if they were rated the best hummus in St. Louis two years in a row(the owner told me several times), it wasn’t worth $ 1 for that thin layer. Prices weren’t bad(Appetizers $ 3.15-$ 5.45, Salads $ 4.50-$ 7.45, Wraps $ 6.25-$ 6.95, Sandwiches $ 6.45-$ 6.95) and they had some interesting looking combo selections(EX: $ 8.75 Pizza Combo gets you a 9″ 2 topping pizza with 2 «Dad’s Cookies» and a cup of hot tea; $ 9.95 Mediterranean Treat is the Mediterranean rap, a piece of baklava, and a bag of chips). There’s a small selection of breakfast items you can order before 11am, and a short glass case with different desserts(slices of cake, cookies, etc). They claimed to have wifi, but it was down. You can, however, pick up a strong signal from Crazy Bowls and Wraps next door. If you have the Entertainment Book, there’s a BOGO(buy one, get one free) coupon. If they’re in it, I’ll be back next year when I buy the coupon book again, but won’t go out of my way to visit here otherwise.

After a sweaty gym session, I was craving a rice krispy treat from Crazy Bowls and Wraps like CRAZY. I know what you’re thinking, and to that I say: I exercise so I can eat crappy food without feeling guilty! Anyway, I park and start walking to CBW, but then Blackberry Café(which is right next door) caught my eye. And the dilemma began: should I continue into this run of the mill chain, or should I support a local business and check out Blackberry Café! Well, you know which decision won. I walked into Blackberry Café and was greeted by the nice gentleman working the counter. I scanned the menu, but nothing really stood out. Then he told me about their specials. «We have gyros!», he exclaimed. I love a good gyro, but I wasn’t craving something so heavy. «And we also have falafel wraps,» he continued. Bingo! Falafel wrap it is. And an order of baklava, please! The food came out pretty quickly. The falafel was stuffed into a pita, along with feta, hummus, cucumbers, lettuce… all the things you’d expect in a falafel wrap. I took a bite. Hmm. The falafel was a little soggy and mushy, which is not how I like my falafel. I like it chewier and firmer, like it is at Pita +. But some people like softer falafel, so I won’t knock it too much. The flavor was good. Now the baklava? This was SO good! It was ridiculously sweet, which ended up giving me a big stomachache shortly after I inhaled it, but dare I say it was worth the pain? Some of the best baklava I’ve ever had, for sure! Would I come back to Blackberry Café? Probably. I want to try the blackberry tea, as well as a few other things on the menu. But not the falafel. I’ll skip the falafel next time.

I first came here based on a friend’s recommendation for lunch. I was super excited to eat a gyros sandwich and check out this local café that somehow had slipped my eye all these years. When I first went in, I was fully geared up to order the gyros sandwich, but then I saw the menu and spent a good 5 minutes debating whether or not I should change my mind. The manager(I think) was really patient and offered up some recommendations, and I ended up getting a pita melt with turkey instead. This would just give me an excuse to come back another time to try the gyros. The pita was great and immediately made me a repeat customer, as I came back a few days later. I love how the restaurant is run by a family and how friendly and talkative they are every time I’m here. The place is never really crowded, as I think most people come here to grab food to go, but its nice to have the option to eat in. On days that I wanted to trick myself into thinking I was eating healthier, I would order a gyros salad which provided the satisfaction of eating a gyro but with significantly more veggies. I love Blackberry Café especially since it falls in line with my goal of supporting local dining locales. The service and friendliness also really helps. Just expect a brief wait for your food as they prep it when you order so everything comes out fresh. Also, the parking can be a problem since Blackberry Café shares a small metered lot with three other places. But this should not deter you from stopping in and grabbing a delicious meal.

I’ve been hankering for falafel for awhile, and when I noticed Blackberry Café’s «Hot on Unilocal» status, I checked out their menu online and saw that they have a falafel wrap. SCORE! I convinced my mom to accompany me there for lunch today. When we walked in, we were greeted right away by a friendly woman, who said she’d be with us in a minute. No problem, it gave us a minute to check out the menu anyway. As I looked at the choices, I noticed that the falafel was not on the menu at all! Totally bummed, I asked the lady working if they had it. They did. Phew! Apparently it is a special but they don’t have it every day. So call if your heart is set on it! They have a veggie burger, a veggie wrap, pizza, and several salads, if you are a vegetarian. Plus hummus and some breakfast options like a bagel with hummus. I thought about ordering a salad too, but decided against it. You can’t get the falafel with a combo deal(bummer, looks like it from online). I did get the blackberry ice tea, which is not sweetened, and it was good. Not strong, and my mom, who LOVES tea but hates sweetened and flavored tea, really enjoyed it too. Our food came out REALLY fast, like 5 minutes or less, which was nice, My wrap was a good size for lunch and came with sun chips. I could’ve done without those. The wrap was so good! Fresh and yummy, with feta, hummus, taziki sauce, cucumbers and lettuce. You can get it with tomato and onion but I’m not a fan. I would definitely order this again. My mom got a salad, which was kind of small for the price, but fresh and good. Their dessert case was mouth watering! I was dying to order something — they had brownies, carrot cake, key lime pie(maybe– looked like it), baklava, and more. I refrained but will be back to try something! The ambiance is like a coffee shop, and it was quiet and clean when I was there around lunch time. It would be great for carry out of a low key lunch. You order at a counter then get your food. The people working were really nice and friendly, a plus! I definitely intend on coming back.

I just went by Blackberry today for the 900th time for lunch… Picked up the Med. Combo to nibble on while I sit in front the computer at my desk… SODELICIOUS. I have never had the tabouli until right now and it is so fresh and delicious… I will be taking these leftovers home to convince my boyfriend that this place is really good!

I love this place for 3 reasons. 1. Very polite and funny employees 2. Best hummus and pita that I’ve had in St. Louis by far. 3. Black and White cookies My wife got a turkey wrap and it was just so-so as others have said. I have gotten the hummus and pita appetizer as a meal and felt satisfied. The hummus is exceptional and very tasty. The pita is well seasoned and so soft and fresh it must’ve been made that day. As for the black and white cookies, they are a DELIGHT. They are imported from NJ so you know they’re authentic. They are mass produced which is ok, but I’d really rather someone in STL start making them fresh. That being said, best place to get these delicacies in STL.

I went yesterday with my boyfriend with the intentions of trying the hummus. BUT, after I checked the prices for everything… I felt if prices matched proportions, we would have ordered too much food. Alas, I ordered a combo: turkey wrap with mushroom bisque soup. The wrap was boring… it had Caesar dressing, but not really enough of it… and to be honest, I’m bored with Caesar anyway. The mushroom soup was really, really tasty. And the portions did match their prices. My boyfriend ordered the philly cheesesteak, which of course, I sampled. The wheat bread was a welcomed surprise. The meat was tender and there was a decent amount of veggies, however I found the cheese to be reminiscent of Velveeta. Hmmm… I am now inspired to make my own at home if it’s that easy. I had a so-so experience. I think that we’ll have to go back one more time just to try some of hummus.

I’m a big supporter of places where the owner is present, friendly, and welcoming. Mohommed, the owner, is all of those things. When I visit Blackberry Café I usually order the hummus or baba ganoush, with the tomato zucchini soup. All are delicious. My boyfriend typically orders the spicy tuna wrap or the falafel. My mom, who lives out of town, visits Blackberry Café almost every time she comes to visit. She orders the same thing I do, the tomato zucchini soup. It’s just so good! Spicy, with feta sprinkled on top. Geez. I’m making myself hungry! Also, I should mention I’ve been there with children and once, the little girl I was babysitting knocked over a full mug of coffee. I was embarrassed because the café was pretty crowded at the time but Mohammad’s main concern was making sure the little girl was okay. He cleaned everything up while I took care of her, and told me not to apologize. He told me that he has children of his own and to him, they are all that matters.

This place is great, and the owner(Mohammed) and the guy who works at night are really nice guys. They’ve been working together for a long time. It’s a quiet place to study in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood. Great food for a coffee shop, especially their soups. The tomato zucchini soup is fantastic — I wish I had the recipe. The creamy mushroom is also a favorite of mine. It’s incredibly rich and well-balanced. Their breakfast food is also very good. The only knock on the food is that it is slightly expensive compared to other quick restaurants, but it is worth the extra money. Ironically, I haven’t tried their coffee. I would often come just for the food after getting coffee elsewhere. I would bet that it is quite good, however. They do some catering on the side and it is independently owned, so their hours can be annoyingly inconsistent.

I went here while visiting my best friend. Great hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The owner was super-patient with my indecisiveness and helped me choose a tasty delight– gyro salad. The gyro meat, feta, tomatoes, lettuce, and tzatziki sauce atop the salad made for a lovely salad. However, the star was the lemony dressing dousing the meal and begging for the accompanying pita tips to sop it up. One star off for canned black olives versus superior kalamatas and for the lack of pepperoncinis, but overall and affordable and pleasant place for lunch and snacks.

Blackberry is a place that I hung out quite a bit while I was in college. Since I went to school rather close, going there pretty much anytime that I wanted was no problem, nope, no problem. That basically meant that I was there quite a bit. I generally would go there when I needed to write a paper or catch up on some reading without having to talk to anyone or acknowledge people I knew whose presence was near me. Yes, at Blackberry I could just disappear and enjoy myself. Blackberry also has some nice eats, I would most times have a cup of coffee and depending on the amount of cups to the amount I had written, it was a easy way to judge how much progress that I had made or was making at the time with the caffeine running through me.

I live close by to Blackberry, so I’m a bit biased. But, this is my favorite coffee shop in the area. All the people there are quite friendly, whether it Patricia in the morning, Mohammad in the afternoon, or that guy who works at night. Their tea selection is satisfying and they make a delicious double espresso that I get on a regular basis. Also, the food is top notch. Their hummus can be a bit hit-or-miss depending on your personal taste. Personally, I love it, but my fiancée finds it to be a bit thin and over spiced for her tastes. Last night, I tried their delicious tomato zucchini soup which was rather spicy and quite delicious. Other treats include their garlic cheese bread and good range of dessert treats including Black and White cookies which are not common in St. Louis. They also serve a delicious breakfast omelet with lamb and feta cheese. Mostly, I enjoy coming here because I can use their free wi-fi or just sit and chat with the workers when they aren’t busy and feel like it’s a bit of home. Even my dog sprints to Blackberry when he realizes we’re close by. He knows he’ll get warm pets and friendly hellos every time he visits, too. If you are looking for a place to study that’s quiet, friendly, and full of delicious treats, Blackberry is a choice that will not do you wrong

They moved to Forsyth by Kreugers and Imo’s. I’ve had to edit my review. Because I’ve eaten here a lot. And all of it is goooood. I usually get something on a gyro variation. Last night it was hummus, baba ganoush, and gyro meat. I love that they heat their pitas, but first top it with a special blend of spices. It comes out crisp, toasty, and delicately spiced. I am a sucker for the baba ganoush. It’s rich and smoky and garlicky — everything a good baba is. I like the hummus, too, but I prefer my hummus creamier. One of the things we like about it is that everything is always good, but you can tell it’s homemade. That is, there’s a certain level of variation involved. It’s charming because you can tell the time and care Mohammed puts into making his menu. They have a Republic of Tea white tea with honeydew that is addictive. Really, really addictive. Blackberry iced tea is unsweetened and fresh brewed and refreshing. Drinks are customized, and all the employees are really friendly. They take the time to get to know you and know your name and your quirks. It’s definitely a place that cares about its customers and about the quality of food they serve. In some ways, the food is really basic, but the care they take makes a difference.
