It is only a couple miles from home but took, e 5 years to get here. I had the ribs special with baked beans and jalapeño slaw. E.X.C.E.L.L.E.N.T. The healthy portion of ribs come sauced and meaty and so tender. The baked beans were very good and the jalapeño slaw was not overly hot but a pleasant kick for a change of pace in slaw. For $ 10.99 on special, you can’t beat it. The overpriced beer is typical for a bigger city, even though beer is a pretty cheap commodity. Get the $ 2 Pabst special and not $ 4.50 for a 16 oz glass.

We came here for a retirement party, on a Friday evening, and this place was packed. We were seated in their outside tent area, which was a little chilly at first since they had their fans on, but we asked to turn them off and the temperature became very comfortable afterwards. I ordered a gyro plate which came with a Greek salad, and my fiancé ordered a fish sandwich that came with mac and cheese. Both were very delicious, and even though they were really busy, we really didn’t have any delays in our drinks or food. I’ve been here in the past to play cornhole in a league that plays here in the winter in the tent area as well. Overall, a very fun place to come hang out or grab a drink or food. My only complaint is not specific to this bar, but the area as a whole. Parking is a pain! We drove around for 20 minutes looking for something before we gave up and parked like 4 blocks away and walked.

I had dinner recently on a weeknight at Seamus McDaniel’s. I don’t think I had been here since high school or college but used to eat there often. It’s exactly the same! It made me feel like I was grabbing quick bite before heading to the arena to see the Blues. I ate a Cesar salad which was good and my dinner date had a gigantic burger and fries. I should have gotten the burger! I like to patronize city establishments and this is still a good one.

This is the best burger place in Saint Louis. For eight dollars you can have a 10 oz burger that is well seasoned with fries. The atmosphere was nice as well. My server was very attentive and the wait for the food was less then fifteen minutes.

The servers are so nice which is the most important thing to me. Not minimalize the DELICIOUS pub food. We get take out all time but you can’t beat that classic Irish pub feel. If you find yourself in dogtown — definitely make a stop.

They took care of a rehearsal dinner group of 30+. Service was phenomenal. They kept us well served with various hot appetizers. We were never wanting for buckets of beer or specialized mixed drinks. We were provided with a menu allowing a choice of 8 entrees. All were perfectly cooked and served in a timely fashion. The burgers were typical Seamus burgers. DELICIOUS. The employees were fantastic.

My wife and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner here 20 years ago and we visit every time we are in town. Our normal fare usually involves the crispy chicken sandwich that is large enough to share, fried chicken wings that are served sitting in sauce so you can enjoy them dry or you can drag them through the normal hot sauce. The dinner salad with house dressing is the right size to add to any meal as well. Tonight my wife ordered the chicken and broccoli and she really enjoyed it. The portions are generous as we usually have leftovers and tonight we fed 6 for less than $ 60. Great food, good variety, great value, authentic neighborhood bar, pub, restaurant. Plenty of indoor and covered outdoor seating.

Cool bar in Dogtown with reliably good food. You won’t find anything crazy on the menu, just normal pub food but they do a nice job with it.

After living in St. Louis for 25 years, I finally went to this Dogtown classic. So sorry I didn’t check this place out earlier. I have the blue cheese hamburger. This is as good a hamburger is you will find anywhere. Love the exposed brick and the overall feel of this place. Definitely will be back.

I have been here several times growing up and had been dying to take my husband. Finally got my chance on a Friday afternoon after walking around the zoo! He loved it! We walked over from the zoo parking area and were seated immediately upon entering. The history of the place is all over the walls and my husband loves reading about it so he went around and looked all over. I ordered iced tea while he ordered a few beers from the draught. Both came ice cold and got refilled as much as we requested. We both ordered the buffalo chicken sandwiches, with fries. They were huge! Both were eaten fast as we were hungry from our morning and we were full to eat any more. Can’t wait to get back as he wants to try other menu items!

They mistakenly brought out our Buffalo chicken sandwiches and served them to the wrong table(right next to us). They touched the sandwiches, lifted up the buns, and then called over the waitress to tell her that it was not what they ordered. She picked up both plates, walked away for about 10 seconds and then came back and put them on our table… and then when we questioned her, she said that they remade them… On a busy night, where it took 20 minutes to get them made the first time, they magically appeared in 60 seconds, but weren’t the same ones that had already been handled and had the buns lifted, etc by the people at the table next to us… gross and unsanitary, and very inconsiderate. I only ate a couple of the fries, didn’t eat the sandwich, the waiters and bus guys clearing the table could tell that none of us touched either sandwich, and didn’t ask if anything was wrong, etc, only asked if we wanted to take it home. I then called the restaurant when I got home to tell the manager… he said that she switched out the top bun before serving them to us… as if that was an ok practice after the food had been served to someone else, and they touched it. He also said that he should have come out and spoken to us, when the waiter came back and said that we weren’t touching the food. Multiple chances to have fixed this, but it went ignored when she swapped out the top bun, and then again when the waiter said we weren’t eating them. Yet nobody asked if anything was wrong, and we explicitly asked that waitress if this was the same food, and she denied it, and said that it was new food. She even told the manager that she told us that she swapped out the bun, which she didn’t BOttom line, if you serve the food to the wrong table, and they touch it… you don’t reserve it.

To wrap up a fun day of brewing at the D’s, on an absolutely perfect September day, we went for burgers at Seamus McD’s. We had stopped in after Member Morning for a quick beer, to kill time before Heavy Riff opened, for more beer and lunch. While at Seamus’ we saw people eating these large, beautiful burgers and vowed to come back. It turned out, we should have just stayed. I don’t review most craft brewers, but Heavy Riff did not impress us. The beers were generally one dimensional(and we sampled a number) and the food was just OK. While Seamus McDaniel’s has a short selection(rotating?) listing of local craft beers, it is not a tap room. Ms T could not find an IPA, for example. However, for me, the very good burger, more than made up for that since I had had about enough of beer sampling during the day. We all ordered burgers. We all enjoyed them. They are 10 oz, chargrilled with good grill flavor. They are not pre-made hockey pucks pressed to the density of a neutron star. I found mine flavorful, salted properly and juicy with a loose texture. I would say that they cook a little more than the doneness. I like medium rare, but as a first timer, I start with medium. Some places do leave the M-R pretty rare. Seamus will be a little more on the done side. Mr D’s medium-rare was not too rare. I asked for slaw instead of fries. They deliver about a bushel of fries, so I had a few of Ms T’s. The slaw was OK, not a specialty. The only slip-up was that all of our baskets were delivered missing the tomatoes, lettuce, mayo and pickles as ordered. The server apologized and corrected the oversight. By the way, the daily soup was ham and bean. Mr D and I each had a cup and it was also very good. I like to make ham and bean soup and am not very good at it. This beat what I make most of the time. I really liked my burger and look forward to going back. Ms D had a good suggestion. Split a burger and get a small salad or cup of soup. Perfect! I no longer need a 10 oz burger, but it is too good to completely pass up.

Nice little out if the way place. Prices are good, good family atmosphere. Place was very busy, which in my book is always a good sign. Had the Buffalo chicken sandwich on the recommendation of the server, she wasn’t wrong it was amaizing! Fries were cooked just perfect. If your a Blue Cheese person, and I am, it’s some of the best I’ve had. Bring your appetite tho because the portions are huge! Definitely got my money’s worth. I Get to St Louis from Joplin about twice a month for work, will definitely make this a must stop place!

I DREAM of this burger! The Seamus Cheeseburger is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had! I live nowhere near this place, but the last two times I have been in the area, I’ve made a point to go out of my way to get this cheeseburger. Both times they have perfectly cooked the burger to a medium doneness; just the right amount of pink in the middle. I get mine with cheddar cheese and man do they pile it on! They don’t use sliced cheddar, they use shredded and it is incredibly flavorful! Now the burger has some sort of seasoning on it and it really brings out the flavor of the meat. Oh my goodness I am salivating as I write this. Also, the burger to bun ratio is perfect. They use a pretty light bun and I can appreciate that. Okay, I could clearly go on all day about this burger. Just take my word for it and order it! Let me also add that the crinkle fries are great. The prices are reasonable and the servers are super friendly. The ambiance is lacking and it’s very dark inside, but I get it because it has an old Irish Pub feel. If you want something bright, go out to their patio(it has a roof and nice garage style doors so you can go out in the rain too)! :)

I live in the neighborhood and have been frequenting Seamus for years so it pains me to say that they have gotten into a bad habit with their burgers — or rather, at least their kitchen has. A little over a year ago I was raving to a friend that they had one of the best burgers in town, hands-down. So he came along with me for lunch. This buddy happens to have worked as a butcher for years. When our burgers arrived I asked him what he thought. «Ehhh…» he said. «Really?» I asked, rather surprised. «These have been frozen and then reheated again, man,» he said. He explained the texture; that the meat clumps together when it’s not fresh. It’s less tender and less“spongy” as you get from a good, fresh burger. And he was absolutely right. I actually only eat a burger about once every month and a half or so. But I would say about 1 out of 3 visits, I’m finding this issue at Seamus. Five of us went this evening, three of us ordered burgers. Two ordered cooked Medium, one Medium-rare(FYI). Immediately I noticed the texture didn’t seem as fresh as usual, but I didn’t say anything. After about a minute, another friend remarked that he thought they had been frozen at some point and the other friend agreed. Just disappointing. I’ll probably stick to my other fave here — the grilled buffalo chicken sandwich — until they make an effort to keep their kitchen from cutting corners on what is typically a great burger.

Today’s lunch was at Seamus: We both ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, man is it huge. We both agreed that it’s ok the chicken it’s self didn’t have much grilled taste. It came with fries and there was a large amount of them. My buddy ate everything and I ate half my sandwich and threw away half the fries not much of a fries eater, they were ok just your regular out of the frozen bag of fries. The cost was just over $ 12 with tip $ 15, not to bad for how large they were. I did get a to go box and when I got home my dog liked it much better then I did. Yes we would say try the place you may like it, and we will most likely go there again but not to soon, this was our second visit and last time we had the burgers they to were just ok. The service is very good, they kept our tea glass full.

Ugh, so good. Dynamite 10-ounce burger with Ore-Ida fries for $ 7.95. The burger was so big that I barely touched the fries. I was full afterwards. The bartender was kind, friendly and terrific(and cute!). Nice selection of beer on tap. Great spot. Nitpicking negatives: 1) It took a long time to cook the burger(perhaps because it’s so big). 2) I wish there was another TV at the bar to watch sports, but I could see where it might take away from the cool Irish pub ambience that Seamus McDaniel’s has. 3) It was tough to find parking. Their lot is small and street parking is limited.

Five stars for their burgers! They are simply phenomenal!!! Large juicy flavorful burgers in a variety of styles with the best onion rings in years! It’s difficult to finish a burger here and the onion rings are large juicy & perfectly crisp… Just a great restaurant and pub in the middle of Dogtown!

I live in the neighborhood and really want to like this place. This place might be a good place to drink with friends and eat a bunch of gross greasy bar food. This is not a place to go if you’re sober looking for dinner. Jack/John(he said his name was jack, but our receipt said John) is not a great server. We came in on a busy night, but for a place that is normally busy, service shouldn’t slide(my boyfriend has worked in restaurants for 15 years and even he didn’t stick up for the guy and he normally does). And we were sat right away, so its not like it was too busy to handle. Waiter never came by after we got our food to ask how it was. In fact, once we got our food, he never offered to fill our beers or stopped by our table at all for over 40 minutes. It was as if we were not his table anymore. He walked by several times avoiding our eye contact, and helping his new tables. We had to flag him down to get our bill, and he never came back for our payment. We actually had to go to the«host» to get pay our tab so we could leave. Don’t order the fried cheese unless you have a group of 5 – 6 or more. You get about 30 pieces of cheese. The wings were barely cooked through, we couldn’t eat them. We took them home and cooked them for about 20 – 25 more minutes. Their burger was OK, but hard to enjoy it plain. They completely skimp you on toppings like tomato, lettuce, and onions. Our burger was huge, and the tomato we got was literally the size of a quarter. The lettuce was brown and wilted. I’ve had better food just about anywhere else. This is a place that does not care about its food or its customers. We will not be back, unless we have some sort of cheese shortage.

Went here once a few years ago and don’t remember anything about the beer or food(just that I ordered food, must’ve been a burger), but I returned a few days ago and sat out on the patio. It’s a very nice area, perfect for hanging out in the evening when it’s not too crowded. Our server Lindsey did a great job and took very good care of us while we were there. I ordered the cod on the sandwich menu, baked instead of fried so that it wouldn’t have normally come in sandwich form, but the waitress said they could still make the sandwich happen! Got a side of broccoli, which was a huuuge portion, so I’m pretty sure I filled my veggie quota that day. The fish itself was cooked well(not over-done) and didn’t taste too fishy. Also tried the«toasted» ravioli appetizer, which was quite tasty. Its filling was meatier and less cheesy than I would have expected, but I’m not complaining. The bf had the special — chicken soto, served over angel hair pasta — and thought it was really good. He cleaned his plate.

We all know the burgers at Seamus McDaniel’s are some of the best in the city. So when I do updated reviews, I like to give shout outs for other items of their extensive menu. Why let their burgers have all the glory and limelight. Our recent visit was for a late lunch, we arrived between 1:30&2PM. As we glanced over the menu, we ordered a couple of ice teas and an order of Onion Rings. If you haven’t ordered them before, do so soon. They are huge rings of onion heavily breaded, deep fried to perfection. They’re always served hot and crisp. I cut mine in half for easier eating and dipping in ketchup. My sandwich of choice was the Pork Loin with Fries. You have a choice of either deep fried with buffalo sauce or grilled with lettuce, tomato and onion. I went for the bad boy and choose fried. I went with the buffalo sauce on the side. The piece of pork loin was huge, it spilled over the entire bun. I had to cut it in half to enjoy and to be able to dip it in to the buffalo sauce. The fries are frozen, but I love a crinkle cut fry so I am a happy camper. My lunch partner also took a different path then the typical burger. He choose the Philly Beef. Roast Beef sliced from the prime rib, pile high on a toasted bun with Philly cheese, sautéed green peppers and onions and a side of au jus. As always, I some how to manage a bite. This was some of the most tender beef I have ever tasted on a Philly. The lunch service is always down home friendly and quick. We were in and out within an hour, which is great for those on a work lunch break. I also give them a shout out for having all three of the artificial sweeteners, they’ve earned a spot on my Rainbow of Sweetness List. Remember, Seamus is just not for burgers. When: 3 Feb 2014 Why: Lunch

Shippin’ up to Dogtown! Yeeps, I had a bad experience last weekend with a celebrated StL burger joint, and the feeling really lingered. A few days went by, and I just needed to feel purified. I needed a good burger experience. The choice seemed obvious: I needed to go to Seamus McDaniel’s. When considering areas to live in, Dogtown was one of the finalists. The hood is full of food and drink options. If I could sell a t-shirt slogan to StL-Style, it would read«Party in The Grove, Retire in Dogtown.» The community tends to be middle-aged to older, but I could see living there at some point. Seamus McDaniel’s would be one these draws to Dogtown. I’ve only been there twice, but I could see being a regular at this place. They have the right balance of quality, quantity, and price. My visit on Monday was a no-brainer. I needed a good burger, so I went with a Seamus Cheeseburger. Seamus offers several cheese options: American, cheddar, Swiss, provel, pepper or bleu. I went with provel. First off, the burger did not disappoint with its quantity. This sandwich was a beast! After having a burger that fit comfortably in my hand, I was given one that needed a fork lift! However, quantity didn’t take away from quality. Seamus uses classic Angus beef, and the cook made it just to my temperature specification. And the sandwich rocked! With a healthy portion of crinkle cuts, the meal was just $ 7.75. The beer menu is solid, a nice mix of domestic, imported, and craft selections. I would like to see more craft beer, but they do serve Sam Adams, Boulevard, Deschutes, and O’Fallon. Where’s the Schlafly? Needless to say, Seamus McDaniel’s passes the test. I look forward to my next visit.
