This is a truck stop. The food is really good but plates are Styrofoam and you order and pickup at the counter. That said, they still get four stars becuase they cater, and it is awesome.

Oh my ! This café has really good Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Cal veggie omelet was delicious. Lunch had a cheese burger and it tasted like it came from my backyard grill. Everything is so fresh and tasty. Better than anyplace in Salinas.

Truck Stop out of the way from 101 but worth every bit of the 5 mile or so diversion. Had the Burgers even though still breakfast time, read that burgers were great. True true true ! Chili was excellent. Café is seasonal from April to November. Love to support local business.

Let’s get something straight: this place is a truck stop for the local produce company. If it’s not lettuce season, you will be out of luck. It’s a hidden gem in the little sugar town of Spreckles. Nothing fancy here; again, don’t come for the ambience. Come for the great food. The half-pound angus burgers are the best in town. The salads are fresh and have plenty of the good stuff(I hate a chicken salad with three bites of chicken). Some of the daily specials are BBQ ribs, pork chops, and French dip. The bread(sandwich buns/French rolls) is made locally and is better than average. There is always a soup of the day; Friday it is always clam chowder, which is excellent. Don and Cheryl Ferch, who own Contemporary Catering, are the reason the café food is well above average. Check out the Café’s Facebook page; locals can attend Pizza Night(wood-fired pizza oven) and Saturday Night Supper, a prix fix meal that’s BYOB(bring a good bottle or two of wine and meet your neighbors). The food at these events is outstanding; best you’ll get anywhere. If you are from out of town and need a quick breakfast or lunch that won’t empty your wallet, this is the place.

Hmm. We must have picked a bad day, based on the other reviews here. We got in a little early – around 11:30 – so we beat the lunch crowd. Here are my ratings: * Appearance/cleanliness: 3.5÷5. Pretty clean and well kept. Ambience was a little lacking. But the negative is that there were flies everywhere! I’m guessing, based on what I saw, that the flies were bothering other customers too. I mean… I understand that we live in an ag area, but there’ s gotta be SOMETHING you can do. * Service: VERY good — 4.5÷5. Friendly and fast and flexible. They had a basket of free crackers to «hold you over» until your food was ready. GREAT idea! * Food: 3⁄5. Only average. The burger meat was tasty and well cooked. Bun was good, fixins were fresh. Fries were cooked well but a little bland. But guacamole was slightly below average, lacking spice. Chefs Salad was weak too – veggies were fresh(duh), but meat and cheese were boring and cheap. My suggestions: 1). Get rid of flies 2). A little more fun ambience 3). Chef salad — prepare veggies better(maybe julienne the carrots, grape tomatoes, smaller cut on lettuces). And then better meats and cheeses. 4). Fries– try a few seasoning blends. People will come back for great fries 5). Burger– not much to suggest; it was pretty good 6). Give your service staff big raises! Overall, I’m not sure I’ll go back. Maybe once more…

Don & Cheryl do a great job at providing great food and great service. They provide great food for the truckers and always comfort the locals. I go here with my boss from Let’s Party and always have a great meal. The garlic fries are awesome.

What a delicious find. When the chef(an outstanding master of fine cuisine as well as simpler dishes) decides to have a special dinner, don’t hesitate to go. Bring your own wine or beer and enjoy. YUM!!!

Another one of my favorites that if you didn’t know was there, it would be impossible to find. Right in the little sugar town of spreckels located at Tanimura and Antle’s produce warehouse, T and A café has hands-down the BEST breakfast potatoes I have ever had. What makes them good? Lots of black pepper! Pony Express is my favorite, Ham, Egg, Lettuce, Cheese, Tomato, Mayo, and Avocado(on request). Check out the review in this weeks edition of the Weekly, and judge for yourself!
