I remember coming here when this location first opened, and it was very good. But months later I come back and completely different food, completely different service. The service is headed by nothing but high schoolers with«swag» and just socialize, rather than working. The food is completely garbage. Strips were very thin, and more fried batter than actual chicken. Gravy was watery and looked liked milk with pepper. Since then I’ve never gone back and will never go back. Even if someone buys for me or treats me, I’ll decline. Stay away from this place.

This place has the worst customer service of any establishment. The sad part is that the employees are fantastic, but the managers are worthless. If you have a problem, they will treat you like dirt and belittle you. The manager Albert actually hung up on me 4 times and wouldn’t not answer my phone calls because I told him that he had terrible customer service. All I wanted was to speak to another manager and he simply would not allow me to. What a sad sad excuse for not only a man, but a manger. He should be fired. I have pity for anyone that has to work with him. I can’t imagine how he treats his employees If only he were able to happily help customers, they might actually get better ratings on here. I wouldn’t give this place any stars, but unfortunately I have to give it at least one. Steer clear.

One weekend while staying at the Hill Country Resort & Spa, we decided to take a break from the expensive resort food and go offsite for something good and cheap, so we drove past this Bush’s chicken. On a Friday night, it was not too crowded, but was busy and the place was clean, including the bathrooms. We got a family pack of chicken tenders and fries with sweet tea. Everything came out quick and was very hot and fresh. The rolls were excellent and the tea was perfectly sweet. We enjoyed it and will be looking for a Bush’s back home when we return.

Stopped by for Tender Tuesday the week of Super Bowl. Crazy busy in the drive thru but the staff was fast and friendly, even though it was rainy and freezing! Got home and everything was top notch — crispy delicious tenders, aka huge, long strips of awesomeness; golden flaky biscuits, and off the hook gizzards that barely survived the ride home. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that I wish they’d season the chicken itself prior to breading. A salty brine or marinade would add another level of flavor. I don’t go often since they are a little pricier than others, but I do enjoy it when I splurge.

I kept hearing from every one and their mother that Bush’s has the best fried chicken. But how could that be? Better than San Antonio’s very own Bill Miller? Naturally, I had to try it. Ordered chicken strips, french fries AND mashed potatoes(because I’m a shameless, shameless human being). They packed up two MASSIVE containers of gravy so I could bathe all the starch in its creamy goodness. Passed on the Macaroni based on several reviews. The chicken was great but I wouldn’t say the best I’ve ever had. Will I be back? Yes. Oink.

I’m not originally from San Antonio and had never seen a Bush’s chicken. After seeing the funny commercial, and viewing the menu on line and asking a couple people about the place i decided to finally check it out. As you can see by my research I’m particular about my chicken. I’m love my Popeye’s Chicken and still do. Upon arriving I drove around the building thinking it was a drive Thur when actually its a Drive Up to 4 take your pick Lanes and some kid comes out and takes your order. The first thing I got here were gizzards for my dad. i ordered 8 gizzards and got i think 18 gizzards. The box was overflowing with fried gizzards. It also came with cream gravy and rolls. my dad really like his 18 gizzards and i loved the rolls and gravy. This last time i came here i got a family meal with 10 pieces, 2 lg sides, 5 rolls and 1 gallon sweet tea. for $ 24.00. Kinda pricey… yes. But You get Alot for the money. The pieces are huge. And SO Not Greasy. Just Crispy crunchy fried skin and hot moist chicken meat. The rolls are soft and hot similar to a Bill Miller Roll, but smaller. The mashed potatoes were thick rich and creamy. The gravy is equally the same. The fried okra was not greasy either and i got a whole medium box full. The Sweet Tea is super duper sweet. Way to sweet for me. i had to add lemon and extra water and ice. i should have asked for the non-sweet tea and added splenda when i got home. I also got a cup of ice to go. They have the small granule ice that i love. The Kids that have taken my order have been really friendly and helpful.

i honestly haven’t had any issue with this fast food chicken place. i love it. it’s my go to instead of McDonalds, especially after having a long day and not having anything cooked at home. i order it up the same every time. chicken tenders, with the gravy, biscuits, french fries, coke and a military discount on the side. boom and dinners done.

My husband got the 3 chicken breast meal with Mac & Cheese. I got the chicken tender meal with french fries. The chicken was crispy & juicy. VERY good. The batter tasted great. However, the sides were plain and bland. The rolls are standard. If I got back, I’d go for the chicken only and make the sides at home.

Seems the majority are KFC, Popeye’s and Church’s fans. KFC always serves small pieces and a spiced coating. Church’s and Popeye’s rated about the same for spicy vs plain. Bush’s tastes like Church’s but higher priced. Best to eat at Church’s and save. Then there’s the reasonably priced Bill Miller’s BBQ and FRIEDCHICKEN. Need I say more?

I had their chicken a couple of days ago after having a couple terrible experiences at Churches Chicken… I’m from Kansas City and there Churches Chicken is point blank amazing but that’s not the case in SA… So I tried Bushes and ironically it tastes EXACTLY how Churches Chicken tastes in KC. I was expecting more of a unique flavor that’s why I gave it 2 stars… Overall the food is decent.

They have gizzards & liver! Both were very good for a chain restaurant. Crispy crisp on the outside, yet still juicy and tender on the inside :) No idea about the chicken though. Mash & gravy were ok, but I’d definitely go again for the gizzards alone!

Chicken and sides all lack flavor. Prices are too high as well! Not impressed at all.

I know I wrote one before but can’t find it. Now I am not the chicken fend in the family… I have chicken a few times a year so to be fair hubby, the chicken fend, and I did a test of the same chicken pieces at KFC and Bush’s. Now we tried when it first opened and I was not impressed, and hubby went back for tenders one more time. So wanted current data so on to the taste off. First night KFC… we had not been in there for a long time… hubby always picks up tenders for him and I pass. Menu has changed a bit so I asked them a lot of questions and they were good about that. Finally I got breast, 2 drumsticks, sides and biscuit. Hubby got the, Surprise, tenders, sides and a biscuit. So we got the same selections at Bush’s on the next day. Bush’s was more money… very bland, not as much flavor and when I asked about their seasoning because of a sign they had they just corrected they way I said it and did not explain it nor ask if I wanted it on the chicken. We are not going back… oh hubby might get some tenders if he is picking up smash burger across the street for me… cause it is easy… but not for the taste

I agree with the other reviewers… it’s way over priced for what it is-fried chicken! It’s not amazingly tasty either. I think I’ll stick to old faithful church’s for sure.

Stopped here on my way through SA. This is a unique setup from a drive through perspective. You pull around into a lane and someone will be there to talk to you. This is very helpful if you are new to the place or just don’t know what you want. The prices are very reasonable. It is leaps and bounds better than KFC, much better priced than Popeye’s and on a par with Church’s but a different flavor and coating. The sides were also really good and their Ice Tea is well done. I think if you are looking for some good fried chicken and are willing to step out of your comfort zone of the usual suspects, you should give this place a shot. You can also eat inside of you.

way overpriced! they charged almost a dollar for a cup of water! the chicken is good, but not for those prices either. you’re much better off supporting one of the many local, or chain restaurants.

Yummy, yum, yum… Bush’s is great!!! I’m all about spices, but Bush’s is just the opposite, but it works, the taste is awesome and simple. Their yeast rolls are the fantastic and I really enjoy their Serenity seasoning!!! The chicken is fresh and hot… the staff is all about customer service and making sure your a happy camper. The prices are a little high, but still worth it. So far from my friend’s and family’s reviews, you either love Bush’s or you don’t. This guy loves the joint!!!

Yes, well now I had to find out what all the hubbub was about surrounding this new chicken shack that opened up down the street to lines out the door and down the block, winding over towards the Freddy’s next door. I’m not sure if it was quite that dramatic but I am a student of hyperbole. Anyway, I gave it enough time for the crowds to disperse and popped in on the way home from work to grab a box to take home to the family. My instructions; «just get a couple of 3 piece dinners nothing too extravagant.» Well I take orders well enough like any abiding husband but upon entering the Bush’s the first thing I noticed was not the décor or the selection or the still lingering overstaffed grand opening month crew, but the prices! Wholly Colonel Sanders! In the words of the lovely Incarnacion, «they look expensive.» I’m not sure if Bush’s did their per ca pita research but these prices are a tad bit exorbitant for this neighborhood. I’m sure after a couple of months when sales begin to dwindle they will start offering the ubiquitous legs and thighs specials more common to this area but until then we’ll see if the romance lasts. Anyway, the price of the 3 piece meals didn’t seem to make sense compared to the 10 piece family meal so I disobeyed my commanding officer. The first thing I noticed when my order was handed to me was the weight. I thought for sure the family sides, chicken and rolls had all been stuffed into my large 10 piece family box. I was wrong. Where the hell are they raising these chickens? Chernobyl? These chicken pieces were huge! it softened the blow of the price somewhat and the flavor was very well seasoned and overall a great piece of chicken. The sides were a bit pedestrian, unfortunately with uninspired mashed potatoes served without any gravy and a mountain of fried okra that was just too heavy. Bush’s it was a nice enough introduction but I still haven’t found anyone worthy enough to forsake my beloved Popeye’s. Good luck with your $ 20 family meals.

I stopped in here on the way to a football game on Friday night with Rachel and Dad. I am a die-hard fan of Bill Miller’s fried chicken, but I like to try out a new place as much as the next fat man. Especially a place that sells fried chicken. The menu here earned it that fourth star. I LOVE fried chicken livers and gizzards. You can’t get them at every chicken shack in town. Here, they sell them as a plate that has eight livers or gizzards, french fries, a cup of gravy for dipping, and a warm buttery roll. The great thing is that they can’t count! I asked for half and half and ended up with a heap of fried innards that could have fed about four little sickly skinny people. I counted about 23 pieces. Significantly more than the eight I was supposed to get. There was so much that even I couldn’t eat it all. But, believe you me, I gave it my best damned effort!!! The livers were fried perfectly. The crust was crispy, but the actual livers were still smooth and creamy. I don’t like them when they get dry on the inside. The gizzards were also well-cooked by my standards, but some people may want them a tiny bit less chewy. I think the chewing is what works the flavor out of them. I didn’t go crazy for the crinkle fries. They were extremely thin. I prefer big fat slabs of potato, the way Bill Miller’s used to make them. These were tasty, but with so much of the livers and gizzards, I only ate a few. I will say that I thought the catsup there was too vinegary and too thin. The french fries I did eat got dipped in the delicious white gravy. They had another bottle of sauce on some tables that might have been hot sauce. Speaking of hot sauce. have you ever put that Sriracha sauce on fried chicken? A server at Asia Kitchen told me to try it sometime. It was INCREDIBLE! Rachel had chicken strips. She said they were really good. Dad had the three piece meal, but complained that the pieces were too big. He would have ordered the two-piece and not wasted the money on the three-piece, had he known. Me, I saw the size of his pieces and did a little internal tap dance. I really hate the trend at some chicken shacks of getting more pieces out of a chicken than nature intended. Not here. They were big and meaty pieces. One thing… By sweet tea, they mean REALLY sweet tea. You might want to go half and half.
