Heard about Laurent’s Modern Cuisine all the way from Chicago, so when I found out I was coming to San Antonio, naturally I made reservations to try it out. Went there tonight with two of my best friends, and where purely and simply wowed by the symphony of flavors that Chef Laurent offered us! Great atmosphere, and very modern dishes and silverware We went with the $ 50 menu, and they got a very nice bottle of wine. Every dish was beautifully crafted, and just the right amount… And the flavors… Man, the flavors! Dessert was out of this world, and beeing a coffee snob(might as well be honest about it) I have got to admit, Cappuccino was premium taste! All in all a fantastic experience… Was absolutely worth it! And I can guarantee you I will be back next time I am in town! So if you are looking for an experience that will tickle your taste buds, make a reservation to Laurent’s Modern Cuisine, and let him take you on an amzing culinary adventure! You won’t regret it!

Went in for lunch, and pleasantly surprised. Simple, classy décor inside. Watermelon gazpacho was nice with the black vinegar & basil… but not really my favorite thing. Chicken & brie wellington was really delicious. Flaky pastry crust, juicy, tender chicken and soft greens. Dressed salad was also a great compliment. My husbands hangar steak was the correct temp, potatoes were nice and some of the dressed salad. House baked bread was very nice. Great crust and perfectly soft in the middle. Service was a little hectic for the one waitress, but her pleasantness made up for it. Chef was good enough to come out and say hello. I will definitely be back. In a town full of hacks & pretenders, Laurent is pretty legit!

This restaurant was a lovely surprise for lunch. The hostess was well-informed and offered very personal service and suggestions. And the food was intriguing and absolutely delicious and a wonderful mixing of flavors, as well as being very attractively displayed. I’m going back, for sure!

We are still swooning over our dinner from Friday evening. The décor is ‘meh, but the food is outstanding. Dinner starts with a soup, select an appetizer(lamb eggroll is one of the best this side of Vietnam — crispy and packed with flavor), small salad, salmon entrée(served over rosti potatoes which were so crispy and authentic) — entrée is served with 3 sides(wilted baby spinach, carrot purée, & risotto). We were totally satisfied at this point and didn’t think we could touch dessert — but we’re talked into the sweet potato soufflé earlier in the evening, so we were committed! What an amazing creation — light, fluffy, not-to-sweet, we somehow managed to eat every bite(momentum took control!) Love this place, and the service was friendly and efficient enough without being intrusive. Hope this business is a huge success so they can dress up the décor a bit and create a better atmosphere, but for now, it’s all about the FOOD! Go as soon as you can, this town needs more talent like Laurent…

The best European Modern(French) cuisine in San Antonio during the past 30 years we have lived here, and we are very, very picky eaters, especially locally. The prix fixe was a fantastic display of the chef’s range, with beef tortellini, fig-dressed salad and both the salmon and sea bass which my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. We thought for a moment this was a restaurant in Paris we might have remembered, as the presentation and sauces were perfect ! We’ll be back and let’s keep this our little secret, otherwise all of San Antonio will be there ! OHNO !

I have now eaten here twice and both times the food was wonderful. This chef know what he is doing. At lunch we had a Tuscan bean soup and an excellent Eggs Benedict which was very rich and delicious. For dinner I had the hangar steak with mushrooms and a Gorgonzola sauce, a beautiful and delicious beet salad and split pea soup. The sides were equally good; truffeled macaroni, sauteed spinach and sauteed brussel sprouts. the food is artfully presented and the portions are perfect. Don’t miss this place!

Brunch on Sunday — great service and wonderful food. Swordfish was fresh and perfectly cooked with risotto. Also apple tart with goat cheese ice cream was delicious.

3 ½ stars, great new restaurant for San Antonio though! Had just randomly bookmarked it on Unilocal, was intending to go to Bistro Bakery, and saw Laurent’s across the street, yay! open for brunch, plans changed, let’s go! Ambience: Ehhh, it’s kinda whateva… Food: Chicken Wellington: Ahhh, nothing goes wrong(usually) when you encase things in puff pastry! Brie, chicken that was surprisingly moist, creamy goodness, very rich, but very good… Might I mention I almost never order chicken, but I just had a good feeling. Veal Cheeks: the Mr had veal cheeks, they were cooked well, the pasta was a little too al dente, and the sauce was just good, but the veal cheeks were nice… They serve illy coffee, which gives them another positive, I do love illy Overall being my first experience on a whim here, I would love to go back for dinner and get a better idea of the full menu and experience. Just happy to see new restaurants with potential in SA

Hubby & I had lunch at Laurent’s today, and the food and atmosphere and service are wonderful! It was not at all crowded for lunch, I hope more people discover this place. We were served an amuse bouche of miso soup with straw mushrooms and some kind of crispy long gnochi. It was yummy. I ordered the duck confit on a bed of polenta with greens. It was served as a whole leg and thigh, I think the best duck confit I have ever had. Hubby ordered the chicken and brie Wellington. The chicken was tender and flavorful, the pastry crisp. The serving bowls and plates are very artsy. It was definitely enough food for lunch, and we skipped desert. One San Peligrino, two lunches = $ 44.

Overall it was a good experience. I gave them three stars although I would’ve given them 3.5 if it was possible since their new and I expect them to get better. I don’t normally return to a place I’ve only given 3 stars but I feel like they’re close to something good so we’ll go back. Some of the dishes were excellent while others were a complete miss. The restaurant is prix fixe only with limited selection. I’m fine with that if the menu changes often, the ingredients are fresh, and there is a wine pairing option. Unfortunately, they did not have a wine pairing option which is problematic for two reasons. My beautiful girlfriend and I both like wine with similar tastes but our different selections of the prix fixe menu didn’t allow us to buy a bottle that would work for both of us. Also, the individual choices didn’t really work well for a single wine. So we had to buy wine by the glass which was more expensive The service was fair. It was a bit confusing because we had two waiters although I couldn’t figure out their strategy. They didn’t communicate with each other well so we had to correct and remind them things already shared with the other. Their table dishes were beautiful and elegant. Prix fixe was misspelled as «prix fix» on the menu. Eh… They served an amuse bouche, and I love when the chef does that. It was a pear soup topped with almonds that actually was larger than a typical amuse bouche, but that’s just splitting hairs. The waiter explained the dish confidently saying«topped with chives». I looked down at ours, didn’t see any, and pointed that out. «Oh. Uh. Lemme get those for you». They only sprinkled one a few flecks and the soup would have been better with more. Still, it was a tasty dish much to my surprise. For my starter I ordered the lobster in velvety butter sauce with roasted polenta.(Cost an extra $ 7 for this one so not truly a prix fixe) It was heavenly. So rich and savory. I would have loved to dip my bread in the sauce after I devoured it but we wouldn’t get bread for another 15 min. Odd… The prix fixe menu only had one option for the salad. Really? Just one? It was a tomato«salad». So hopefully you love tomatoes. Luckily we do, but we didn’t love these tomatoes. They proudly proclaimed that they were«local». Great. Except they were tasteless. I don’t care if they are local or not. If they are as tasteless as these you should not be serving them as the focus ingredient in a dish. We asked for our dressing and cheese on the side but they forget and so had to be served again. This course was a complete fail. My main dish was a striped bass that was cooked PERFECTLY and had a delicate beurre blanc sauce that went well with they bass. It was topped with potato scales that were perfectly toasted and crispy. Definitely a win! My dinnermate order the veal tenderloin. It wasn’t seasoned well and not tender like I expect from veal. Overall it wasn’t a good cut of meat and was a miss. They serve three sides for the table in ceramic cookers. I don’t like mushrooms but my date loved the mac & cheese with truffles. The sauteed spinach was OK. It could’ve used some salt or garlic to spruce it up. I can’t remember what the third side was. The desserts were OK. A chocolate cheesecake that wasn’t as rich and decadent as I would expect. Will we go back? Yes. But we’ll give them a few months to tighten up before we go.

First time here for brunch, the food was excellent, and the service was very good. If you favor modern american-french cuisine, you’ll enjoy this place. I haven’t seen the dinner menu yet though. My wife and I may have found our regular Sunday brunch spot.

We tried this place for date night last night and had a very enjoyable experience. Prix fixe is $ 45 for your choice of appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Each section had about 4 choices. The chef also includes a small soup and salad with each combination. The meal also comes with three small Creuset dishes with vegetables. They seem small, but all together, the meal is very filling. My husband was a huge fan of the appetizers offered(roasted duck, steak tartare, mussels), but he was less of a fan of the listed entrees(striped bass, chicken cordon blue/osso bucco, pork tenderloin). The owner was kind enough to let him substitute two appetizers for his entrée, though it was a bit confusing to try to explain the substitutions. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients here. I particularly liked the Fredericksburg peaches in our salads and the liqueur-soaked cherries on our dessert. We used the Unilocal deal to get a free half a bottle of wine, and the owner offered us a free whole bottle with our dinner. Much appreciated, so we ordered a second bottle. When we didn’t finish either bottle, the waiter was nice enough to cork them up and package them with a receipt so we could transport them home. Our waiter, Jason, was very kind and quite funny. He was excited about the new place and the dishes the chef had prepared, and that kind of positive energy translates well to customers. The place closes at 9:30, and I wish it stayed open later. We had an 8:15 reservation, but due to the nice slow pacing of the meal, we didn’t leave until 11:00. We weren’t rushed out by any means, but we were the last people to leave. Definitely a place worth trying. Once they have a few more weeks under their belt, I hope to see a website from them featuring some high-res photos. The presentation of each dish is so pretty that I think it would be a draw for other folks to see a taste of what they’ll get.

We have enjoyed Laurent’s both for dinner and today for lunch. Both were very enjoyable, food delicious and different, service excellent. For lunch today I had the Eggs Benedict which was better then I had expected. The eggs were perfect, ham wonderful the sauce to die for. My husband had the Hangar Steak which was equally good, tender, with potatoes and sides. The couple we went with were equally impressed… cannot wait to go back again soon!!!

We loved the food. This is the kind of place where you get a 5* meal in a nice but relaxed environment. The fix menu is great(and changing every week we were told), the creations were very delicate. We had the soup(compliment of the chef), the Duck Salad, the green salad, the beef tenderloin, it came with 3 little pots with veggies, such a great presentation. We will definitively come back!

A real treat at a great price! Very tasty with a lot of surprises on the evening menu like some free samplers Loved the gulf crab, the beef and the blackforest cake Best value ever in San Antonio Actually I am a bit worried that it might become difficult to get a table in the future as the word will spread that this is the best kept secret in San Antonio

Excellent new restaurant in Olmos Park. There’s a happy hour prix fixe dinner of soup, salad and entrée for $ 25. After 6:30, the menu consists of the soup, salad, entrée plus your choice of appetizer and dessert. The soup was an amazing butternut squash soup with tiny gingerbread croutons and prosciutto strands. Very tasty… as was the fresh made bread(they brought more when we ate it all before the soup even came). Next course was salad – greens with poached pears thinly sliced, candied walnuts, gorgonzola, and balsamic drizzle. Yummy! For entrees, I believe there were 4 choices – we got three of them and all were good. I had a duck breast which came with some turnip rounds. Hubby had the beef tenderloin which was very tender and tasty. Daughter had the 7 hour pork which was also very good. Sides came in small crocks to go with our entrees – curried leeks, maple glazed brussel sprouts, and truffled cheesy rice. All were very good. Service was excellent – though they got rather busy near the end. I wouldn’t recommend the espresso/cappuccino tho unless they get a new machine. We weren’t charged for it, but it wasn’t drinkable either! The chef/proprietor used to be at Olmos Park Bistro(catty corner to this place). The place where Olmos Park Bistro used to be is also a new restaurant – by another OPB person. We had gone in there, not been happy with the menu and the server told us the other people were across the street. :D So we left and went there instead.

I had lunch today at Laurent’s Modern Cuisine, and I can’t stop talking about it! The atmosphere was excellent for the business meeting I was having, as the restaurant is very upscale without being trendy. The servers were very attentive, although, truth be told, they spoke so quietly it was a little difficult to hear them over the music(which is not at all loud). We were served a bowl of the soup of the day, a butternut squash. It was creamy, without being texture-less. My dining companion ordered the Fish Market Ceviche and was thrilled with it. I had the Lamb and Lamb, it was amazing. The slider was perfection in a palm sized meal, and the lamb t-bone was exquisite. I wasn’t enamored of the carrot hummus, but it was complimented the other flavors well enough that I finished at least half of it. The quinoa was fantastic, and an excellent companion to the t-bone. I thoroughly enjoyed the dessert, a toasted angel food cake topped with strawberry sorbet and accompanied by glazed strawberries and cream. I can’t believe I’ve never had toasted angel food cake before, it now seems like the only way to have it. The coffee was wonderful, fresh pressed and not bitter at all. My dining companion was a bit concerned that the portion size was going to be too small, but that was an unfounded concern, as he was nearly full halfway through his meal. All in all, I believe it was an excellent choice for the type of business meeting I was having, which involved showing an out-of-towner some of the excellent things San Antonio has to offer. I will certainly be back for dinner soon.
