Beers galore! Dog friendly, nice outdoor seating areas, and they show big games on a large projector outside. Great hangout spot with a chill vibe and nice staff. Did I mention the beer? Now for the food… this was our second experience here. The first was a few months back and I almost didn’t give it a second shot based on that time. The food then was so incredibly spicy, I couldn’t even touch it(some sort of soup) I love spicy food too, but this took it to a whole different level. I am happy to say that our second experience here was MUCH better and we enjoyed what we ate! We had pork laarb(sp?), a noodle dish, and the peanuts. All were awesome, especially the pork! Giving it 4 * based on first experience, and our server who forgot us and I had to call over to ask for more beer. Will update review on our next visit!

I’m surprised to see all the low reviews for this place, but you can’t please everybody I suppose. After seeing a blurb for this place in the Current, I decided to check it out with some friends. Parking was a little inconvenient, but soon enough we had our beers and food in front of us. Of course, the beer selection was plentiful, and the menu looked quite exotic. We had no idea how big each plate was going to be, so we all ordered something. I ordered the yam and shrimp fritters and stir fried okra, and my friends ordered a curry soup and the Thai fried chicken. We ended up all sharing with each other since there was so much food. And all of it was delicious! The yam and shrimp fritters were perfectly fried and tasty. The Thai fried chicken had a delightfully crunchy texture and came with a very spicy dipping sauce that burned so good. The curry soup was delectable and had a good kick to it, while the okra reaffirmed why I love that vegetable so much. I would definitely come back.

Had really high hopes for this place… First off, we wanted to sit outside because it was a nice day. We sat there for awhile not knowing if we were supposed to order at the bar or wait to be served. Quickly our legs were getting destroyed by bugs so we relocated inside. The menu sounded delicious and I decided on trying the mohinga, crispy fish in a tumeric-lemongrass broth. I don’t know if that was the intent, but it was too sour and bitter. Don’t get me wrong, I love sour soups like tom yum(Thai) and sinigang(Filipino). Usually the sourness keeps you wanting more, but this mohinga just didn’t do it. For dessert we had the chè. This should’ve been straight forward and easy to execute. The dish was lacking in flavor. It was diluted from all the ice and I could not taste anything. Don’t think I will be back, although the weekend brunch does sounds tempting. Spend your time elsewhere :(

Came in and it was packed but the wait wasn’t long. Had a party of three and there wasn’t room but they made it work. Super nice staff. A little un-organized but they are hard working and incredibly nice. The food… That fried chicken!!! It was absolutely amazing. For apps we got the peanuts and pork laarb. Both delicious! The Laarb is perfection! The sticky rice was a tad too sticky but the laarb was so good I didn’t even care. Ordered the omelette as well but unfortunately we didn’t get it. Our server who I’m thinking may have been an owner or management totally made it right. No restaurant is perfect but man do these folks try hard to make it a great meal paired with a great beer.

After 3 subpar visits, I decided to give them one more chance and try one of their so called beer dinners which are held monthly. Tuk Tuk was promoting this particular dinner as a pairing with Dogfish Brewing. The sole reason I paid the $ 80 for a ticket is they said a keg of Dogfish 120IPA would be tapped. 1. When promoted as a beer dinner with kegs being tapped, a safe assumption in my mind is that lots of beer will be flowing. How wrong I was. Throughout the whole dinner, all we got was 1 Redstripe and 5 two oz servings of Dogfish beers. Plus, the keg they promoted was never tapped as the server said the owner was saving it. 2. Food was good but nothing special. It was a Jamaican theme and we essentially got jerk chicken, some potato dish and dessert. The quality of food we got and essentially 2 beers was worth $ 30−40…maybe. You may be thinking I’m cheap but I have no problem paying for quality food, which is nearby at places like Il Sogno and Cured. 3. I emailed the restaurant the next day to express my concerns since they did not deliver on what was promoted. Never heard back of course. After my first 3 visits, I should have known better but it sounded like a great event. I love the restaurant’s concept and beer selection but it needs a lot of work. Either fix things or it’ll continue to be empty.

Average rating right now is 3 stars and that’s a little high. First of all, the location: Where the hell are you supposed to park? I think we illegally parked in front of the apartments down the block. Most people were walking across Broadway. It’s always fun to cross fast-moving traffic with no lights. Drink menu: I really don’t like it when they don’t put prices on a drink menu. Seriously, why can’t you just tell me what the f***ing price is? I don’t want to guess. And it turns out they don’t want you to know because they’re a good buck higher than anywhere else. The beer selection was OK — I expected some rarer options with 72 taps, yet not a single beer I hadn’t had a dozen other places. Service: The one server was great, if a little over-worked. She really needed help today. Food: The number of choices was very limited. The wings we had were delicious — just the right amount of sweet and heat. The dumpling were OK, but a little greasy. But other than that, we could have had soup, peanuts, or salad. And all of that was at a premium price. Overall: Just not worth a visit.

The atmosphere was great as well as the service. A little chilly in the restaurant, however no big deal, I kept my coat on! The food was absolutely delicious. We had the fried chicken(my favorite), ribs & another pork dish. For dessert, the sticky rice, which was also excellent. Very different flavors in each dish, but they all worked together nicely. Good selection of beers. One detractor is the parking. Had to park and walk pretty far to get to it.

Authentic Asian Food?! Me thinks not. The food here is more than most places around here, especially considering what you get. It’s none too imaginative, and super expensive. Take the Asian Peanuts. You’d think that for $ 8, you’d get a super sized helping of peanuts to eat with your beers. Nope, just a little handful. This place is more expensive for peanuts than the circus or the ball game! Gah! I got a beer here once, a coconut porter, and was charged $ 8 for the privilege. I told the bartender that I just wanted one beer, not a six pack, or whatever they were charging me for. That’s the price. Frown. Parking is nearly impossible for this place. You’ve got to park in some scary alleyway or across Broadway under 281 and hike for a block and cross Broadway, which can also be scary after a few beers. The service is rather aloof, not taking time to explain the food or the beers, or even being around to help with a drink order. The back yard area is filled with uncomfortable chairs made from spools that get you dirty and hurt to sit on. Skip this place, and go somewhere else.

I’m just going to repeat the other Unilocalers here and say: 1. Overpriced. 2. Heavy reliance on «fried» as a category. 3. Semi-bad service. If any of the statements above make you turn away, I’m not going to spend too much time trying to convince you otherwise. But in case you do want to try Tuk Tuk, here’s my review beyond the above factors. I thought the actual restaurant and atmosphere was pretty cool. We were also able to be seated right away, on a Friday night no less.(Probably because of the things mentioned above, but I’ll stop mentioning it.) Although I did read that there are some expensive beers on tap here, they do have a «3, 4, 5» option that you can ask about. Different beers featured for $ 3, $ 4, or $ 5…not bad. The $ 4 option that evening was a nice IPA, and I felt pretty good about paying that price. As for food, they offer a «table» option, which is supposed to be a shareable amount of food. If I’m honest, although it was a sizable portion, it was comparable to every other restaurant in America and their serving size for one person. So this«shareable» feature is just a handy way to charge double the price for the same size serving. My friend and I shared the shrimp omelet, the yam and shrimp fritters, and the rest of the table got the wings and some other chicken dish. Although both of the options I tried were certainly delicious, they were both deep-fat fried. Even the rice underneath the omelet was pretty greasy, and so although it was delicious, it was definitely not a «cleanse your palette» type side of rice. The rest of the table was pretty excited and satisfied with their food options, and I can’t really say anything too bad about it. I will say skip the sticky rice side…$ 2 gets you a half cup. The service was okay until the end… and then we waited for 15 – 20 minutes for our server to get our check split. To be fair, I think she might’ve been new, they were using an iPad system, and there was 5 in our party. But it still took way too long. Overall, I think this is a pretty cool place to try once, or maybe a place to take people new to San Antonio, but I don’t know that I’ll be going back anytime soon. You might leave feeling satisfied and happy with your meal choice, but your wallet will definitely be sad.

Authentic Asian street fare? Not even half way close! I have to write this unfortunate review because our experience at the Tuk Tuk Taproom was just pitiful! Even if this establishment was billed as Asian Fusion, I wouldn’t give it a pass. But since they claim to be «authentic», I’ll bring out my Asian card and be the judge. BTW I’m not your white washed fake Asian who knows nothing about Asian culture and food. I’m fluent in my mother tongue and have lived in the motherland. So when it comes to Asian food, I know what I’m talking about! First of all, I don’t care what kind of «list» your establishment is on or it has been featured on blah blah blah. Good food is good food period. It speaks for itself. But the food here isn’t particularly any good. We ordered the whole fish and pork belly banh mi. The pork belly had no flavor and so did the fish. I had to ask for soy sauce and my friend asked for salt. They told my friend they didn’t have salt but brought me some very dense cooking soy sauce. We pretty much left the banh mi alone after one bite. We ate the fish because they later made us a dipping sauce per request. Otherwise it wouldn’t have had any flavor either. Secondly, the price! This place is not fancy by any means. In fact, it is super divey. But I’ve learned my lesson to not judge the book by its cover. Your neighborhood little hole in the wall can actually be damn pricey too! Since they claim to offer«street fare», you’d never think the food could cost you an arm and leg. Don’t get me wrong, I eat out at expensive places all the time and I don’t mind spending a little more on good food. However, when you charge me $ 42 for a bland whole fish and $ 18 for a flavorless banh mi we got a problem! Thirdly, the business practice. We were given a regular menu with items ranging from $ 5 to a little over $ 10 which fit the«street fare» profile. But they also have an «off menu» that only lists the names of the dishes but not the price. The whole fish my friend wanted to try happens to be on the off menu. They also have an «off off menu» where the Banh Mi is listed but of course we weren’t given the price either. We just ordered them anyways assuming that they’d be priced for«street fare». After we finished eating, our waiter suggested it was time to pay the bill. We were not given a final bill to look at. Again, we thought we’d be paying for«street fare» so no problem we gave him our credit cards. After he brought back our cards, we saw we were charged at $ 40 each. Wait, does that mean our meal costs $ 80?! I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention they brought us a bowl of white rice which we thought just came with our dishes. White rice always comes with the dishes at Asian restaurants by default at no charge, no? Mind blowing! And they charged us $ 2 for that bowl of rice we never ordered. Things all went south from there. As someone who always stands up for herself, I had to speak to the manager about all this mess. She said she saw this coming. Interesting! If you did, why didn’t you tell us how much these«street fare» dishes would cost or bring us the final bill before charging our credit cards? After reasoning with her, she agreed to take off the Banh Mi and the bowl of rice. But still we paid for that $ 42 bland whole fish. Honestly, two star is the best I can do because they made effort to solve the problem. I am not trying to be a critic but this establishment has certainly taught a real Asian person a whole new meaning of «authentic Asian street fare»!

Three because, well, it’s overpriced. The beer selection is extensive and our tender was very nice. We did not order food so I cannot comment on that but I will say that some of our Beloved restaurants are like much less pricey and the menus about the same. Good thing we were visiting San Antonio

First of all the parking is not easy at this place, so be prepared to try and find a spot. We came in and there was a few tables taken, but not too busy for dinner on a Saturday, which scared me a bit. We sat and were greeted shortly after. We each other a beer as well as the Pork Laarb to start and the Charcoal Grilled ½ Chicken for dinner. We got the Pork Laard a few minutes after and I was impressed on how good it was. The mint with the pork is a really good mix and then all together with the rice was just delicious. My fiancé waited to order a beer from the moment we got the appetizer until we got our food which was a little while… Once we got the chicken served it was piping hot and so tasty! I personally hate chicken on the bone and I ate a lot more than I expected because it was so good. Once we were done with our chicken we waited 30minutes to get the check… our waiter disappeared and then showed up to sit at the bar and talk to the bartender not even to check on us. We then had to go and ask the bartender for our check because he disappeared again. I can recommend the food but the service started so good and went completely downhill.

I went here with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while, had read a lot of negative reviews on Unilocal about this spot, reviews that contained some hostility even, but I had a 35 dollar gift certificate, so this was pretty low risk. Even so, walked in on edge with low expectations and I was not let down. Plenty of folks have commented on the perilous parking, Frogger lives! We parked across Broadway and made the dash across, whew! Asked the server how many customers are hit daily and he said, «Not Enough.» I think that comment nails this establishment’s attitude well. Beer selection was good, had some beers I hadn’t seen elsewhere and they were very good, but horribly, horribly overpriced and they didn’t have their prices posted anywhere! This is a place where the servers are embarrassed and shameful when they bring you your check, like THEY wouldn’t even come here. Had to wait a long time for that first beer, menus are in plastic sleeves, place is dim. Come on man! If you want to attract sophisticated beer drinkers, show some style and soul and generosity. Just nothing special or redeeming about this place at all really, so many better options out there.

It’s kinda interesting reading through the two and three star reviews here… sort of what I’ve come to expect from crowdsourcing. We’ve been probably four or five times since they opened and never had a bad culinary or service experience. That being said, we’d probably visit more often if I were more of a beer geek like my husband. As a wine drinker, I’m a bit disappointed in their offerings. While we invariably start with the yam and shrimp fritters on nearly every visit, I’ve found their chalkboard off-menu specials to be our favorite part of each visit. The stir-fry lobster matsaman curry and har-mok steamed snapper both being absolutely outstanding on our most recent visit.

Oh Tuk Tuk, I wanted to like you so much. Came here twice and both times we were let down. The first time was about a week after it finally opened. We didn’t have any food that time. It was night so we sat in the outdoor area in the back and enjoyed some music. Nothing really Impressed us though. We went again this past sunday for a drink and some food. The service was slow even though there were only three tables occupied. We got the«all day menu» which had exactly five items to choose from, each more expensive as you went down the list. Ali ordered a $ 9 glass of wine which came in one of those tiny glasses that diners used to serve orange juice in long ago. It took the waitress about 15 minutes to finally tell me that they were out of the beer I had ordered. She did come with a sample of a similar beer which I liked. But again, it was hot and I would’ve liked a beer more speedily than that. We ordered the peanuts, which having to buy peanuts at a bar is ridiculous no matter what thier«flavor» is, which cost $ 4.50. In my opinion there was not $ 4.50 worth of peanuts delivered to us. We also ordered the pork belly with sticky rice for about $ 11. What was delivered was smaller than an appetizer from a better restaurant. The taste was good, but the price was way too much for the portion we recieved no matter how authentic or well crafted it was. This is supposed to be «asian street food» but the prices reflected a 4 star restaraunt. The limited menu was also a disappointment. We realized only as we were walking out that there were additional items written in chalk above the bar that the waitress never let us know about. Would’ve been nice to know there were more than 5 food options. Our bill was over $ 36 for a thimble of wine, a beer, flavored peanuts, and a small appetizer. I can think of no reason to ever come here again.

I really love this spot. I’ve never had to deal with a crowd and waiting a ridiculous amount of time to sit and eat, and that, for me, a perk. It’s an easy walk from my friend’s apartment on Broadway, so I park around the block. The food is delicious. I’ve tried the regular menu and the dim sum brunch. The brunch is my favorite, I’m becoming a Saturday regular. Frog legs = phenomenal. Just the right amount of spice atop a jackfruit, grapefruit, deliciousness salad. I also recommend the tofu noodles and shrimp dumplings. The pork belly is done well, I can’t do the texture of it, but if that’s your thing … Try it. I can’t wait to try the crispy fish in lemongrass broth. There’s a good selection of beers and the jackfruit mimosa is to die for. Regular menu items can be steep in price, but everything is prepared well and carefully, go for the dim sum portions/prices if you want to keep it cheap. Service is casual and very friendly. Every waiter and waitress I’ve had appears knowledgeable about food and drinks. Waters are refilled promptly. This place is decorated nice and it’s unique with a cozy, hometown vibe. There’s outdoor seating and a DJ sometimes(not sure when). By the way… Wear your PJs to dim sum!

Great for beer, okay for food. Their prices are pretty steep, though admittedly it is quite delicious. We had the fritters & ground pork, and both dishes were tasty, but small. Then the waitress brought us a complimentary seafood curry special… bonus! All in all, don’t come here hungry, but do pop in for a beer and a snack.

Going back to my review after reading a few others. Have read reviews that state that food was bland and all I can say is No Way In Hell. This food is seasoned perfectly and more to the point, excitedly. We had restaurants in Japan called«izakaya» which were basically places to drink that served small plates of food. I think Tuk Tuk needs to decide if it is a restaurant that serves beer, or a place to drink that serves small plates of food. The dishes are huge and really need to be shared, but the clientele want to try a few of everything — so maybe tapas would work better. The Izakaya concept is very foreign in the US, and relies heavily on public transportation(so as not to drive home after drinking). However, it is my most favorite remembrance of Japan and I so wish I had a place to come and talk, snack, and drink(and then take the bus home). Beautiful cool space. Amazing beer. But the food, THEFOOD! Thailand NEVER tasted this good! Had the Slow braised lamb in green coconut curry. Lamb fell apart at the touch of my spoon. Perfect crunch of. slivered almonds? And the afterburn on the lips– again, perfect. Great service from Sandra, awesome escape night from the kids!

@TukTukTapRoom I like the atmosphere and the idea of it. So I started off with their Rice paper salad rolls(nem-cuon), but it was the opposite it was made with tofu cucumber and herbs. The traditional«nem-cuon» is made with pork and whatever you decide to put into it, but the main ingredient is «pork». But I still enjoyed it but I think it should be retranslated to «tofu summer roll». Next I had the green papaya, everywhere makes this dish a different way, but here it was a little to citrusy, but again if I’m still eating it then it usually means it’s ok lol. My last dish was the Yam & Shrimp Fritters(Banh Tom Ha Noi), I don’t know much about this authenticity of this dish, but I do know that I think it was left in the deep frier for a tad bit to long, and it was oily. I wasn’t able to taste the shrimp. Again I’m no professional food cretic but this is my opinion. I think for authenticity then this is not the place to go, but remember they are not trying to be authentic, but instead giving authenticity a new twist! I look forward in checking out the all the plans that this place has! And I will be giving this another try! But for now this is my opinion!
