Because if it’s 2 o’clock in the afternoon, and you can’t wait for happy hour… Bar Vie has happy hour all day. Best fish taco in a decade, sweet! filled to the top neat whiskey shots, and a great Sam Adams. Great way to spend an hour in the afternoon. Service is awesome too!

Stopped in during Comic Con for a drink and a bite. Hugely disappointed. Bad service. Took forever to get chips and salsa and our tab!

I really enjoyed this little bar area in our hotel. Our waitress was extremely nice and very attentive! I ordered a dirty martini and their margarita pizzas… Both were delicious! Little hidden gem! I would def come back!

Ordered food here bc I was staying in the Marriott hotel. It was okay kind of what I expected but the fries were cold and the crust of the pizza were close to being croutons. Easy for a quick bite.

The wife and I celebrated our anniversary recently and we stayed at the Marriott downtown and Bar Vie is located downstairs in the lounge area. It’s a tiny little bar but it was the perfect place to start our night of fun. We checked in and went straight to the bar(we didn’t even take our bags up to the room). The bartender was nice, friendly, and very quick. She had a handful of guest and was still able to work the room as she was the waitress too. We ordered drinks(I had a tequila and a beer while my wife ordered a cherry coke and whiskey *a first for me but not for the bartender). Later we ordered food, which was really good. We had wings and fries. *yeah you’re thinking wings and fries. who screws that up? Well plenty of places do. We finished our drinks and food and then headed up to the room to drop off our stuff and then it was time to let the night begin. I don’t know if Bar Vie would be at the top of my list of places to go downtown but if you’re staying at the Marriott or need a place for a quick and quiet drink. this might be the spot!

Bar Vie, at the Residence Inn Hotel. THIS is a great place. Hospitality PLUS! Strong Happy Hour Menu with lite snacks. Bartender and server are the epitome of hospitality. Dramatic design work on their interior spaces.(Yes– it’s a hotel, but it exudes warmth and fun.) Spent a wonderful evening here tonight, relaxing, chatting by the fireplace, and unwinding. Truly– a wonderful experience.

The best thing about this place was the bartender. He was really attentive and friendly. We came in on a Thursday night, around 9PM, in search of some light eats and drinks. Two of the things we ordered were«out of stock» — the bloody mary(no mix), and the salami sandwhich(no salami). Prices are a bit steep, averaging around $ 8 per drink and low double digits for appetizers. I wasn’t overly impressed with anything here. It’s a comfy spot to hang out and lounge, but there are many more in the area that are cheaper and better.

Bar Vie is located in the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown/Gaslamp. It features a lite menu with good cocktails! It’s a casual spot with a lounge area located next to the hotel lobby. There’s also an outside seating area. It has some signature drinks that you may want to try. I had the house red wine, which was a great Canyon Road Cabernet Sauvignon. Bar Vie is a great place to grab a light bite and drink after work or before/after the game(Petco Park is down the a couple blocks away). There’s also a nice fireplace in the lounge area with seating. The bartender was very friendly and had some great suggestions on where else to go to experience the nightlife. This isn’t a busy place. They do televise sports, but you won’t find a noisy crowd here. It’s a mellow spot where you can relax and enjoy some quiet time.

Not bad for«lobby food». If you are staying at the residence inn and don’t want to go out in the cold, this is a place you should have no worries eating at. I wouldn’t seek it out as a destination. But the food is pretty decent.

My boyfriend and I decided to experience the craziness that is Comic Con for the first time this year. In the middle of the first day, we needed a short break from the fluorescent lights, yelling, posing, and middle-aged Wonder Women with blue tights stuck way up their buttcracks, so we wandered out of the convention center and up 6th. We figured any restaurant we found would be kind of nuts, even though it was around 4:00. Every other place that looked like it might serve food had people spilling out onto the sidewalk and what looked to be pretty long waits. So we walked up to Bar Vie, and at first we weren’t even sure it was open. Even though the doors were open to the street and there was a menu sitting out on a stand. It looked dark, cool, and practically deserted inside. It’s attached to a hotel, so maybe some people thought it was just the lobby of the Marriott. We thought the food was maybe too expensive or something. But we checked out the menu and… nope. Just regular bar food prices. What was wrong with this place and why was it empty? A friendly server came out and said, «come inside!» So we did. Place was deserted. There was a posh looking bar and some low couches and chairs around small tables. We were told it was happy hour, so 2 bucks off drinks and bar food. Great! My boyfriend raved about his burger. I had a chicken flatbread which was entirely acceptable. My cocktail was strong, his beer was cold. Not another table came in the whole time we were there, even though people were wandering by looking for food. Obviously Bar Vie is invisible, ’cause Hooters or whatever across the street was doing a booming business. It was a perfect antidote to the craziness of Comic Con. So the mystery of «Why is there no one inside Bar Vie?» was never solved. But that was perfectly okay with me. I’m going to come back next year and hope that it’s still invisible to all the stormtroopers.
