So admittedly, this was a prix fixe meal for a group of 40. You have to give a lot of latitude to a restaurant in this situation. But I feel compelled to review it anyways because of the egregious nature of the meal. This was a Sunday night when the restaurant is usually not busy. We were in a private dining room. We were each offered a choice of chicken, fish or vegetarian. They meal was billed as five courses. My wife and I both ordered the chicken. The meat portion size was about 3 oz. There was a salad, an appetizer and a desert which was a 2″ square of cake. There was no alcohol included. For this meal, we were charged $ 109 per person. The person who coordinated the event was able to negotiate the cost down to $ 85 a person. Outrageous and we will never do that again.

As you may have noticed from all the other reviews, this restaurant is at the corner and attached to Hotel Solemar. When you walk in, you’re at the bar area where there’ll probably be the majority of its patarons, and you pass through it to get to the restaurant seating where you are greeted by the host(s)/hostess(es). We were seated by the window and saw and were seen by many pedestrians and lookie-loo’ers. Made me feel like I was at this exclusive restaurant, and I was being put on display. Chef’s Mercy. Gotta do it. $ 65 a person for 5 courses. Probably a better deal than paying about the same price for less. It’s a great option if: 1) You’re celebrating something 2) You’re not set on any particular item on the menu 3) You don’t have trust issues 4) You are curious about the cuisine 5) You were going to spend that much anyways And when you request Chef’s Mercy, they ask you about any possible allergies, which is absolutely considerate. My two favorites: Braised shortrib and the gnocchi with duck confit. Their alcoholic drinks wander around the $ 12 mark. If you intend on having any, I’d recommend paying an additional $ 20 for the wine pairings to go along with the Chef’s Mercy. Random observation: Their tables are made out of real wood. Parking: If you’re not among the lucky devils who found street parking(where it’s free at 6pm), I would try Park-It-On-Market and walk 2 – 3 short blocks. If she happens to be in high heels, 6th& K Parkade for a $ 15 flat fee and it’s only 1 block away. Overall, I’d go back with out-of-town guests who want something nice. Definitely has a good dose of class. Not tablecloth-and-suit kind of class necessarily, but nice occasion classy. I can see why Unilocal chose this place for a past event.

I came here with a group of girls and there were seven of us total on a Saturday night. They had plenty of open space which was beyond me as the food was fabulous. I had one cocktail and dinner and was pleased with my choices. For dinner I ordered the Butterfish. I have never had Butterfish before and it was amazing. The texture, the flavor, the perfection that it was, I’m scared that the bar has been set very high if I ever have Butterfish again. The fish was sitting on top of creamed kale. I eat kale because it is healthy and I make it at home and can make it even taste good, but this kale was amazing. It might not be as healthy as the kale I cook at home, but this was downright amazing. If the Butterfish and Creamed Kale weren’t enough of a good thing, there was also a toasted beet potato cake. Another thing that I have never experienced before and it was delicious. I ate every crumb on my plate, my dinner companions were all raving about the dishes that they ordered, and we had a good selection. This place was amazing and our server was very pleasant and attentive. The only downside was that the restroom was a long walk from where we were eating.

So this place is called jsix and its on J street and 6th street(Hahhahaha). The downstairs is a hip urban bougie bar but the upstairs is awesome. It’s a roof top deck with TONS of space, lots of seating, lots of real fires to sit around, heat lamps as well. The bar is huge, easy to get a drink as there wasn’t too big of a crowd when we went on Saturday night. Drinks were ok, nothing spectacular. Closes at midnight. Would definitely go back as this rooftop was warm and perfect for our large group.

Came here for dessert on the suggestion from the gentleman with a wicked mustache working at the front desk of hotel solemar and it did not disappoint! We got the butter apple and cocoa nib dessert(don’t remember the exact names) they were delicious! Our server was nice and friendly, it was the perfect way to end our night!

My boyfriend had to stop me from licking the plates because APPARENTLY that practice is frowned upon by some establishments. We came for Restaurant Week. Unlike other places that participate in SDRW, JSix let’s you choose any app, entrée, and dessert from their regular menu for a set price(with upcharges applying to select entrees). Crab and pork belly soup sounds weird but it was the best soup I’ve ever had. The juice from the pork belly with the salty broth and the fresh veggies… just YUM. Then came scallops and mussels, perfectly cooked and bathed in some sort of heavenly butter sauce I wanted to drink. Finished with chocolate nib cake which was incredibly dense and moist and accompanied by a homemade raspberry whipped cream. The freshness of the ingredients and creativity of the chefs makes all the difference here. Can’t wait to come back!

We had a great experience here. I was with a large group, and some of that group can be pretty particular. It was a birthday, and there was 16 of us, and we had a great time, and great food! The service was prompt, helpful, and very enthusiastic. The food was all very good(I sampled a lot of it) and was very pleased with all of it. The table had apps, entrees, dessert and quite a bit of wine. All of it was served timely, and consistent across the group– not always an easy task. I had a vegetarian medley and was very pleased with the combination of great seasoning, and perfect cook to the veggies. I love my veggies with a slight crunch, and these were perfect! We will definitely go back!

Had a great brunch there on a Sunday afternoon. The food was fresh and tasty(eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast) and definitely well-prepared – nothing was overly greasy. Service was average.

We had a very nice experience here. Came one night for dinner and got a travelzoo deal which was great! It was a 3 course meal and you can choose 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert from their menu. We opted for the goat cheese salad, which was very refreshing, subtle in flavors, and nicely presented. We got the scallop entrée and the beef ribeye(my favorite cut) to share. The ribeye was amazing, cooked to perfection and was a huge piece of beef just the way I like it. the highlight of the meal was the dessert, apparently this restaurant has won varies awards for their dessert creations and we were fortunately enough to try one of their best selling items. We liked it so much I was almost licking the plate. Service was super attentive, very nice, and our waiter took the time to explain everything to us and made recommendations on the wine selection. The décor was modern and clean, nice bar area, very open and airy. Bathrooms were very clean. Highly recommend!

Stopped by for Restaurant Week… wish I hadn’t… Food was very underwhelming. Fried Squash Blossoms: Wasn’t crispy, the filling inside was creamy– which is normally OK, but this was sooooo bland. Poached Asparagus Salad: The salad was super watery, the asparagus needed to be drained better. Needs some dressing to give this dish some flavor. Filet and Lobster: $ 10 supplement, filet was cooked nicely, but needed to be seasoned better. Seared Scallops: Soooooooooo salty. Swordfish and Fava Beans: Swordfish was very good, but there were so many plain boiled fava beans and english peas it was ridiculous. At least add some salt to it or something to give it some flavor. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie: Looked promising, but the pie part was so bizarre. The only way I can describe it is cold and stale crust. Perhaps I came on an off day? I sampled 12 dishes and didn’t have one that was well executed.

Used a Travelzoo voucher to visit the restaurant last night and the food, drink and service was all phenomenal! Michelle was very knowledgeable about the menu and attended to each of our requests without hesitation. The poached asparagus appetizer was very unique and one of the best things we’ve ever had. The scallops were cooked perfectly — I couldn’t decide if I liked them or the succotash they were served on better. An extra bonus is that this restaurant is tied to the very sheek Hotel Salomar, so we wandered in there afterward to enjoy the lobby.

We were our way to Broken Yolk for breakfast when we passed JSix. We could see that people were eating and we were attracted by the décor so we decided to give it a try. The food was yummy and our server, Natalie was the best. The prices were surprisingly low for a hotel restaurant, too. They even had gluten free bread, which most places don’t bother to have. Parking in the area is free until 10AM. I highly recommend.

The food was great, it really was. The bummer was we told the server in the beginning we bought one of the living social type deals off of TravelZoo(it’s like you get two entrees and prosecco for half price) but we have 5 people so we were obviously going to spend 3x what the coupon required. Hundreds of dollars later and the waitress tells us we didn’t ordered the«correct» entrees or appetizers to get the deal. We ordered FOUR appetizers and FOUR entrees and she never once mentioned the coupon and the special parameters. It was clear she was just trying to make more money since it was extremely slow on a Thursday evening. Beware if you have the coupon. The drinks are unique but I wouldn’t say super flavorful. The meat and cheese board was great as well as the asparagus and sausage in farro. But I don’t commend the business practices and needless to say we won’t go back.

We moseyed back to Jsix with our Unilocal elite deal in hand. Only one other table was occupied, not a good sign for dinner for tonight. The waiter was spritely and not pushy when we didn’t know what we wanted. He waited patiently until we were. The rotating taps are always very impressive. Their selection is always diverse, not just leaning on San Diego’s favorite, IPA. The food was amazing. I ordered the bacon wrapped tenderloin while my husband ordered the seafood pasta. Judging by previous reviews, I’m pretty sure they’ve revamped their menu. The tenderloin was amazing! It actually tasted a little like bacon instead of a dry pork loin. The seafood pasta was also a hit. Their chunks of seafood were large pieces that overflowed in the dish. No skimping here. The tube pasta can be a little difficult to eat, so make sure you have a large napkin. There will be oil flying everywhere as you munch down. Why not a 5 star review? This place was heavily overpriced. Although I do agree that the food was delicious and I appreciated the fact that their menu comes completely from local sustainable sources, I think the restaurant needs a little more street cred before it can charge over $ 30 for pasta. With two beers and two entrees, we spent over $ 75.

Jsix is such a beautiful bar. I loved the bar counter tops and the high tables and chairs. Inside the bar is a cozy seating area that is perfect for intimate conversations. The bartender was a pleasant and friendly young woman with a welcoming personality. My Unilocal friends and I enjoyed drinks during the half off Happy Hour. With a Unilocal check in we received a free order of tasty seasoned fries and they were delicious. The scenery was very relaxing, and there were several flat screens TV for your entertainment. The bar was clean, the staff was friendly and I had a great time

I mixed up Jsix and Loungsix all along! This is for the real Jsix, the downstairs restaurant. I was a bit disappointed(not because the food wasn’t good or service…) because they ran out of like 3 things when we came here. We decided to come here before a Padres game because we came upon a coupon from one of their Unilocal Events. We though, cool we’ll use it. We came on a Sunday evening and nobody was there. We sat at the bar and the bartender was really nice. She made excellent drinks and was great in service. We ordered the charcuterie board with 2 meats and 1 cheese and a tapenade with some bread. They ran out of prosciutto, burrata, and another deli meat(forgot the name). No biggie… just sucks when your mind is set on something. It was still good. Burger: the burger was the best thing! I would come back to have their burger. We shared half a burger and I probably could have eaten it all to myself. Delicious. The only time I would come back here is for the burger, but I think they should serve some main dinner food up at Loungsix as well because really loungsix steals all the attention from Jsix.

So I came here for a Unilocal event once and it was pretty spectacular, but for whatever reason Jsix didn’t put out their burger. This time around, I got the burger which was a tradition American hamburger with avocado, bacon and cheese, cooked medium. Perfect. It hit the spot. Check out my photos! We also got the charcuterie board which was blah because they were out of 3 of the ingredients we asked for, haha. Whatever, it was just alright. I don’t see much potential for this place other than the burger. Sorry… Service was on point, probably because we were the only people in there. Come to think of it, I guess I’ve never really seen anyone in there… Hmmmmmmm. Anyways, not a bad place to check out. I recommend going to the pool deck on the 4th floor for drinks and a burger. Skip the downstairs restaurant. Good luck!

Jsix is a modern bar with class and flair. I got the chance to visit this place and enjoy all its unique offers. They have a house made raspberry juice that goes into a lot of their drinks. I had a vodka based drink with their rasp every juice, yum. They also had a bourbon punch, citrus and aperol based with a splash of blonde ale, eclectic, I arresting, flavorful. Their bites are delicious too. The Buddha bun is like a open face bbq pork bun with pork belly, cilantro, and glass onions. It melts in your mouth, a balance of savory fat in the pork and light freshness with the veggies. If you come here, don’t miss their rooftop bar. The locals have a pool there, as well as many soft seats surrounded by heat pits. You will love the view of downtown. The bar upstairs also serves cigars. I saw many people enjoying cigars and enjoying the view. Give this place a try. You’ll love it.

For starters this restaurant is located in the Solomar Hotel. For a Saturday night I assumed it would be quit busy so I called ahead of time to make reservations but I was told I would not need them. My mom and I decided to walk to the hotel and once inside we had to walk half way through the restaurant before we were greeted or saw anyone that could sit us. Once we were seated we looked around and saw roughly about 12 people including us. Usually restaurants that are«happening» are rather busy on weekends. The waiter came over and I let her know that we had an offer that I purchased through TRAVELZOO. The waiter went over what the certificate included. Two glasses of wine, a shared appetizer salad or soup, two main courses and a desert to share. We decided on the hummus and pita to share. I ordered the scallops, gnocchi and mushrooms while my mother ordered the bacon wrapped tenderloin, braised Brussels sprouts and horseradish mashed potatoes. Everything looked really good but the food was just toooo SALTY. Salty to the point that I just wanted to eat the French fries that we ordered that you receive FREE once you check in on Unilocal. I say if you’re in the mood for French fries, fresh warm pita and a generous amount of hummus and a drink come to this place, but, if you’re interested in dinning and having dinner don’t choose the items we did they were just too salty:(

Came here for restaurant week and was definitely pleased with the entire experience. The food was fresh, delicious, and well prepared. The service was top notch and the ambiance was nice. Our server Jamie was great! She was very friendly. She was attentive but not bothersome. She was knowledgeable about the menu but not pushy. She made great suggestions. We started with a drink and appetizers. Per our servers suggestion, we ordered the Crispy Avocado. A Must Try! We also ordered the crab pancakes and the kale salad. Oh and we got the french fries because they are FREE when you check in on Unilocal. For the entrée, I ordered the Butter Fish, per Jamie’s suggestion and I am so glad I did. It was perfectly prepared. My only complaint is I ate too much of the appetizers and thus could hardly finish half my entrée. Next came dessert and espresso. My favorite was the pudding-something. My favorite thing about this restaurant is they support local farmers. And many of their ingredients are organic, sustainable and hormone-free. Delicious food that is good for you and the earth… doesn’t get much better than this!
