I went hear bcuz I heard a lot of really good things! but I was a little disappointed bcuz the menu isn’t too big. they have a lot of good deals with drink combos, etc. I do give them lots of credit for their creativity, all of the sandwiches are very unique which makes me wanna come back and try more! such a great part of town, to either sit and chat for awhile or stroll around after. :)

Same shitty attitude problem as sycamore den. Immediately makes anything here less enjoyable by virtue of being awful people. Sandwiches are expensive, but pretty good. I’d say this place could give itself an attitude adjustment, hire some friendly servers, and very quickly bump up to 4-star territory.

Walking into this place, we got a lackluster greeting, & a very«meh» vibe. Lunch time Friday was probably not the busiest time, but there were only 2 others there, so I was quite curious why the burgers we ordered took 30 minutes. When I asked for a medium rare burger, I was told the chef makes them«only one way». Ok…is this a restaurant? Because I thought if I am paying for a burger, I have a choice. The food wasn’t bad, & it was served creatively on a tray w/paper on it, but I am not breaking my neck trying to get back here again.

The first time we visited Burnside last year, we were happy with our sandwiches(mine, shrimp po’boy; his, cubano) and side of skin-on, fresh cut fries. This second time, we were left with indigestion and sad, fast food fries. What happened to your fries, Burnside??? Please bring back the fresh cut fries! They also changed the menu; the po’boy is no longer on there. The cubano seems to be a fixture on their menu, which is a good thing. I tried the bahn mi, which is like phở in a bun and served with a side of phở broth. The sandwich didn’t really work for me. The sandwich had a nice crunch with the bean sprouts and shredded carrots, but the broth didn’t have that rich, flavorful jus I was hoping to dip my sandwich into. At around $ 10 a sandwich, I think I’d take my money to Rubicon Deli.

This unique sandwich shop has a neighborhood attitude and delivers on one of a kind dishes. Every time I come here the menu has a new twist. You can come here time and again and never get bored! They specialize in sandwiches and appetizer sides. They also have a selection of beers — and my favorite, Julian cider. My favorite item here it the poutine fries with pancetta — saucy and delicious. You can get their food delivered to the different bars nearby as well. Overall, try this place, and then try it again. There’s always something new to try.

My husband and I decided to check this spot out the other day. Located on Adams Avenue, Burnside is a great new sandwich spot and fits in nicely to Normal Heights. It’s pretty small inside, and we came on an off-hour(about 3pm on a Saturday) and were the only ones in the joint. You order at the counter and seat yourself. They have a wine and a few beers on tap. We came for a sandwich and decided on the Banh Mi and the Cubano. While we were waiting for our food, we were greeted by the Chef, who was very friendly and welcoming. I like when Chef’s strike up a conversation with customers. The sandwiches came out fast and looked great! Our favorite was the Cubano by far. The sauce it was served with was absolutely delicious! The banh mi was just okay in our opinion. It was served with a side of phở broth, which my hubby said was a bit bland. He was hoping the sandwich has a little more spice to it. As we were eating, we saw them deliver food two doors over to Sycamore Den(same owners) which is awesome. Definitely a good thing to know(Sycamore has great drinks!) Overall, we liked the place. Would we be back? Yes, for the Cubano.

Really expensive for what you get. Very meager portions. Unfortunately, disappointed.

Stellar. Affordable. Awesome. Accommodating. Deliver to the Sod. Had butternut squash veggie tacos. Crazy good. Also the burger which my friend described as «the best on the block» and she lives in the neighborhood.

I’ve always walked past this placed and wondered what it was since it was so small. It’s honestly a little gem connected to the Sycamore Den. Cute little hipsterish place that serves pretty good hot food, beers on tap, and tasty bottled sodas. The guy behind the counter was pretty cool, dancing and singing along to The Jackson 5 playing on the speakers. Made me feel better about doing the same. The menu has a variety of hot food and fries. The poutine was very tasty and a huge portion. Everything comes out on a metal tray, and they even deliver orders next door to Sycamore Den. Apparently there are game nights and trivia, but I’ll have to come back to check it out.

Had my eye on this place since it opened, and finally decided to stop by ! Located in a hip normal heights area, I knew it would be a hidden gem ! A friend and I decided to check this place out and once we stepped in, I definitely felt that hipster vibe ! It was small and cozy, and also had outside seating which I’m a fan of . We were greeted right away and decided on beer and DIRTYFRIES. What an awesome combo. Ahhhhh, I’m a sucker for fries topped with gravy, cheese, bacon, pulled pork, and array of other random toppings. Whatever it was, it was amazing ! The portion was huge, so it’s great for sharing ! I heard this place was known for their sandwiches? I need to come back for another visit soon !

I want to love Burnside. I really do. The idea of a sandwich shop with beer on tap in Normal Heights got me so excited! But I can’t help but be disappointed. The sandwiches are hit or miss(mostly miss, unfortunately), and expensive! $ 9 is too much for most sandwiches in the world, let alone sandwiches that are trying to be specialty food truck fare but mostly miss the mark. We’ve tried the Cubano, buttermilk chicken, bahn miho, pot roast butty, and kimchi buns. The Cubano is the only excellent one, and represents the kind of thing Burnside should be doing more of: simple sandwiches done deliciously. The fried chicken itself is decent, but assembles into a mediocre sandwich. The kimchi and bahn mi were interesting ideas(I usually adore Bao and bahn mi), but real let-downs. Their regular fries remind me of the kind you get in school cafeterias. Thick, soft, and potatoey. They are decent at first bite, but quickly lose their crisp and get soggy(especially if you try to take them To Go). I think they’re still trying to sort out their menu and really hope they settle into a good groove by doing basics well. I would be soooo happy to have a good sandwich with quality deli meats for $ 6, and drink it down with a cheap PBR. How awesome would a $ 10 sandwich & beer combo be?! That’d be perfect, and if Burnside can get closer to that, they may find a winning formula. Until then, I have to go elsewhere to get a delicious sandwich.

I was very disappointed in the quality of food timing. They have a very limited kids menu, but a kids menu non-the-less. So, they should anticipate parents ordering food from that menu for their kids. Any restaurant worth its salt knows kids need food fast or they start melting down and thus make the dining experience bad for parents and other patrons alike. So for Pete’s sake, get the kids food out first and fast. And good grief, don’t bring the parents food first! And don’t get all fancy with grilled cheese or tenders for the kids. Keep it slipped stupid. Now on to the food. Adequate at best, although I will say the fries were above average. If we ever come back, and we live a mere two blocks away, it will only be for the fries and a beer. Which may have been their goal in the first place!

I came here around 3 with a friend. We took the last parking spot on the street. When we walked in, it looked very hipster but there was no one eating. It was kind of hot inside, as there was no a/c, but at least they had a giant opening for ventilation. We ordered the pork cubano and dirty roast beef tater tots. The pork cubano had thinly sliced pork, mustard, and pickles. The sauce on the side was also pickled and salty. The cubano was very good, and probably would have been better with a beer on the side.(They have a good selection of bottled beer.) The dirty roast beef tater tots were good. The roast beef was soft and tender. The tater tots had seasoning salt on it which gave it an extra kick.

Rarely does a sandwich come into my life thats as memorable as the one I had here at Burnside. Yes, I am still thinking about it today because it was that good. Located next to Sycamore Den, this hipsteresque sandwich shop cranks out some serious eats. My friend and I stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and was quickly greeted by a very welcoming lady working the cashier. You order at the cashier here and take a seat. Per her suggestions my friend and I got the Cuban and the Pot roast sandwich. My friend had nothing but good things to say about her sandwich. I was on the same boat with mine. The pot roast was so tender and flavorful. Along with the pot roast were carrots, onions, and FRIES! The bread was super crisp yet chewy at the same time. The au jus it came with was very good. A bit fatty but very good. I could poor that over anything and be happy. My friend and I also shared a side of their street fries which came with a great ginger aioli. The service here was excellent. The only server working made sure everything was up to par and was super helpful with her suggestions. She came by often to check up on us and to clear our table. She even helped my friend position her food to take an instagram worthy picture of her fries. Overall this is a great place for some great sandwiches. If you want some cocktails with your food you can order over at Sycamore den and they will bring it over there for you to eat.

Burnside SD: Normal Heights: Adams Avenue 11pm Saturday 22th August 2015 Four Stars Sycarmore Den’s Sister Restaurant is a great late night eatery. We drank Mother Earth Bavarian Weizens. For Food, we opted for the Porchetta Cubano($ 9) and the Pork Buns($ 11). Both were amazing. The Cubano contained pork loin, pork belly, pickles, mustard, and swiss between a french roll. The best part was the side of Chimichurri Sauce. The 3 buns were loaded with marinated ribeye topped with spicy kimchi and scallions. The food was simple yet delicious. The staff were friendly. They are open late.

Pretty amazing food! Liked the unique flavors and good mix of ingredients in the sandwiches. With that being said, I think they can(and will) fix a few things. The food took over 30 minutes to bring us the our meal and there were a couple small things they could have done to improve the quality. The owner came by to chat and was super friendly and apologized for the wait. He was very receptive to a couple recommendations I had! I have a strong feeling this pretty good place will soon be pretty GREAT. Pretty good food + friendly customer service = returning customer.

Burnside, located right next door to the Sycamore Den makes some tasty sandwiches. I stopped in on the onset of opening on a late Saturday morning and I new I wanted something with some delicious porky goodness, so I ordered the Porchetta Cubano with pork loin wrapped in pork belly, that had been slowly roasted, Swiss cheese, and mustard on a terrific pressed baguette. The Cubano cost $ 9 and for $ 4 more, I ordered a half order of sweet potato fries. The Cubano was quite good, and the Porchetta inside was very succulent, tender, and very tasty. I just wish the sandwich would of came with more of it, which was the only thing the sandwich needed improvement on. The Swiss was very good, I liked the way they thinly sliced the pickles the long way, and the bread was fantastic and came nice and warm. The mustard was typical and they could held back on the quantity. With a little more pork, I would certainly order this sammi again. The sweet potato fries came with crumbled blue cheese, which was mild in flavor and just right, and with a coarse salt which was perfect. The fries had a medium crispy and tender center that tasted great. I would order these again. Being right next door to the Sycamore Den, you can order from there and have a sandwich delivered. Also, the service was quite good, and chef was a nice fellow and quite knowledgeable about the food preparation.
