So excited to try this place. Very disappointed. The sushi bar area is vet small. Service was not so great but that wasn’t her fault… only 1 server. We ordered two rolls each. After finishing our first roll the server brought the dessert oranges. «So we aren’t getting our second roll?» The server did not know we never received our other rolls. We decided to not have her get them. We were ready to leave!!! Tuna wasn’t very fresh but overall my «Seniorita Roll» was good. Edamame was cold. Won’t be back!!! There are too many other places that do sushi right!!! Fish Market should have just stuck to what they do best. Sushi bar seems like an after thought to join the sushi train!

I love sushi and I debated three stars but after I wasn’t given a roll I can only judge off the one I received. Very small and basic menu nothing too great for those who enjoy spicy or different. I was surprised and disappointed with how thin the raw fish was on top of my roll. I purchased the jasmine roll it was tasty would of been nice to try spicy mayo but the server never checked back once she gave us the roll. Then all of a sudden they gave the little orange and check and said thank you as I said I guess we won’t be receiving our second roll. I only ordered a basic salmon roll and my friend ordered an eel hand roll. But those were missed? So I said that’s fine we will just go instead of wait as I didn’t need to be disappointed any further. It’s overly priced, thin sliced fish and basic menu. I don’t recommend it.

I came here for fish and chips as this place was recommended as good fish, I figured good fish equals good battered fish(British thing I guess) it was panko ie breaded, if you put fish and fries on the menu it usually implies they are battered not breaded. Other than that it was really good food and if it had been dinner I would have ordered something a little bit more exotic, fresh catch would be my goto. The place looks great and the smells are beautiful.

Simply the best sushi I’ve ever had. Sushi chefs looked very experienced. Waitress was very helpful. Freshest tasting fish I’ve ever had. Just melts on your pallet

We were a party of six and had a wonderful dinner in August. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We did two seafood samplers which were scrumptious and shared some main dishes. All superbly prepared.. Ceviche and ahi tuna were excellent. Cocktails were yummy. We all had a great time. Atmosphere is lively and cool and wine list interesting. Pricey, but worth it.

Food was delicious… Service not the best. We had an 11am birthday reservation. We had a nice table right next to the window. Our server was extremely slow and inattentive considering there were only a handful of tables in the restaurant. I expected better service. Also, knowing it was my birthday no acknowledgement of it at all.

Took my husband here for his birthday lunch and we were able to get a seat next to the water on the covered patio area. Very nice view and we had a wonderful waitress. We both like our drinks and mine was strong(raspberry lemondrop)! My husband got the clam and oyster appetizer and thought it was just okay. I ordered the swordfish tacos and my husband got the swordfish dish. Both were delicious and the waitress let us know that it is caught daily in the waters right there. Pretty cool. She also brought a little chocolate cake with a candle at the end of our meal for my husband. :)

The was sushi was good, but the rolls had to much rice for what I’m use too. By the time I was a half way through my roll I was full. The fish was nice and fresh and melted in your mouth good.

A «fishy» smell greeted us as soon as we walked through the double wooden doors, and lo and behold, it was from the fish market and the sushi bar inside the larger restaurant. The staff members were very friendly and attentive, and we were seated right away. The cook even offered us suggestions on what to order. Of course, since this was right next to a large tourist attraction(the USS Midway Museum was literally just a shore away!), the food was on the slightly pricier side, but I was pleased with the excellent and fresh taste of the Señorita Rolls. The California Rolls were also on point and complemented well with the sauces and side dishes provided. However, the tuna rolls were somewhat dinky and probably could have had come with more tuna and less rice. Our party also ordered hot Saki and were pleased with the rich taste of this alcohol. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and the waitress and cook were very accommodating, even though the area was on the smaller side.

I was a little worried about being tourist trapped here since it’s right next to the USS Midway Museum, but the sashimi cuts of the fish imported from Tsukiji, Japan was blew me away! This is probably one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever eaten at! The sushi chef was very hospitable and knowledgeable.

If you are looking for the best sushi in San Diego look no further. This is the place to go. The fish is fresh, the staff is knowledgable and friendly! It is a small area so it is not ideal for big parties. I have been coming here for over 10 years and they never disappoint! These sushi chefs are rare to find in SD! Order the: Yellowtail Hamachi Kama Señorita Roll Jasmine Roll Soft shell Crab Appetizer

Probably one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. If you love seafood this place is a must. Oyster shoots or their combination plate is great. The New England clam chowder is delicious. If you like an east coast clam bake, I suggest trying it. Pro Tip: Sit at the bar inside bar if there is space. You can watch the chef cook and get very attentive service.

Just an ok fish joint, nothing special. The sushi was fair at best. The chefs were helpful when asking about what«special fish» that they had. Had the raw little neck clams and they were what would I would rate as below average. Look at the pic. On a good note, the lobster tail was outstanding. Service was a little slow.

The most amazing sushi I’ve ever had. The sushi chef is the best there is. I think he has been here his whole life. The service is awesome, too. Million dollar view.

I enjoyed some pretty good sushi rolls from this Sushi Bar located in the Fish Market on Harbor Drive before a local Elite event. The sushi bar is a good alternative if you just want sushi here and don’t want to go through that whole meal thing, which was my case. I ordered the Tuna Tekka Maki roll and the Salmon skin roll.( ) The regular tuna roll was good. The tuna had a good aged developed flavor with just the right amount of buttery texture and rich flavor. The best part of the rolls was that the ratio to tuna and rice was more on the tuna side.( ) I really liked that. The Salmon Skin roll was great. It should of been called the salmon and salmon skin roll because the sushi chef left a generous amount of tasty salmon on the skin.( ) The skin was slightly crunchy and well seasoned. The salmon attached to the skins was tender and naturally oily, just the way I like it.( ) A great roll and one of my favorites. While I was there, the sushi chef was feeling in good spirits, so he created a roll right on the spot for everyone at the sushi bar to try.( ) It was excellent, I may add, and had a good amount of heat with the added Sriracha. The service was very good and the two sushi chefs were in high spirited individuals. Sushi…is great!

Exceptionally fresh sushi! Cute little spot tucked in the Fish Market(along with a couple other restaurants/oyster bar). Tried the jasmine roll based on Unilocal reviews/tips– very glad we did! I have never had sushi scallops, and I don’t like the cooked version, but very glad we were adventurous. The scallops were yummy and the lemon made it so fresh! Also had some tuna and albacore nigiri, and shrimp tempura roll with siracha(forgot the name). We also tried the spicy sunset… that was weird. We had asked the waitress to tell us what it was but she did not explain that it was baked with gross mayo sauce coating it. I do not recommend the Spicy Sunset! Otherwise, service was good, we were only ones there at 11 am on a Wednesday for lunch so probably hard to review the service. Prices were reasonable, especially since I’m from Denver and used to paying the same prices for lower quality/less fresh sushi. I would come here again next time I’m in San Diego.

The food is mediocre, you’re really paying for the view. My group ordered the fried calamari, bacon wrapped scallops, cioppino, and fish and chips. The calamari was over cooked and very chewy. The best thing we had was the fresh bread and the sweet potato fries.

The husband and I were in San Diego for the weekend and we were very badly craving sushi. We couldn’t go to our regular sushi spot(Sushi Stop on Sawtelle) so I hit Unilocal to find a good place. I found the sushi bar at the fish market. I grew up in San Diego so we frequented the Fish Market for their New England clam chowder, but I had never gone there for sushi. I was a bit weary as many of the Unilocalers talked about fancy rolls and I’m more of nigiri girl, but the fish market sushi bar did not disappoint. We ordered the rainbow salad, a caterpillar roll, an order of salmon nigiri, and a hamachi hand roll. The salmon nigiri was good, but I think the rice was a bit mushy for my tastes. However, they put wasabi directly on the nigiri, so that was a good sign. The caterpillar roll was HUGE! It was very tasty and I’m glad we got it. The rainbow salad was amazing. It came with so much fish! We had mussels, tuna, salmon, hamachi, and smoked salmon. It comes with this wasabi dressing that really gets up your nose as you eat it. Go easy on it or you’ll find your nose burning. For around $ 14 this was a great bargain. The hamachi hand roll was the best I’d ever had. The chef cut 2 large pieces of hamachi and put them into this beautiful handroll. The nori was nice and crunchy and the flavor was to die for. The sushi chef was really nice and talked to us while he was preparing the food. We found out that he uses very special nori =) Anyway, if we’re in San Diego and craving sushi again we’ll definitely be back.

I have had good sushi before and had great sushi before. There is a difference. Before I dive in, I love the Fish Market to begin with. The restaurant, if you request the right items, can make really delicious dishes. Fish is caught fresh on a daily basis. With that in mind, you would assume that their sushi is somewhat fresh too. Well… I got mixed reviews upon trying sashimi and rolls. I would say for two people, it was 180 dollars worth of food and no alcohol. We’ve tried quite a bit. –Sashimi was fine but lack flare on preparation and presentation. Japanese is weight presentation just as important as the taste of their food. –Rolls had too tick of rice to stuffing ratio. –Sauce on some of the rolls were overpowering. The mayo cream sauce, while on a heavier side on flavors, should not hold that much attention on any roll. It should compliment. –One of the rolls had this unique after taste that lingered. It was not bad but not good either. Rather annoying throughout my experience. –As I dissect further, a big flaw caught my attention. The sushi pieces were not cleanly cut. It had evidences that a less than sharp blade came down on the fish. This mashes the fish when too much pressure is placed on it and not severed completely. The fish had trails when separated! I did noticed that there was only one sushi chef on staff at the time too. Might be too much order for one chef since lunch time rush came in. We had a good view which is why I chose this place. I don’t think I am incline to visit them for sushi on my own will. I would probably stick to my sushi spot which would be at Hane in Banker Hills. And don’t be fooled by my profile. It may say that I live in Austin, TX and what does Texans know about good sushi right? I lived in SD for 26 years and having sushi as one of my top 3 cuisines, I think my assessment is rather spot on. Two stars for the fresh fish and view. The rest needs work. I am willing to improve the rating if my next visit demonstrates improvement on the flaws listed.

Hands down the best sashimi. Consistently fresh. My favorite is usually yellowtail, but the salmon here is a must. It melts in your mouth. The Seafood Dynamite with shrimp and scallop is delicious too! With a bowl of rice it’s a VERY filling meal. Forgot to take a picture cause I dove into it too quick! If you’ve never been here, when you first walk into the restaurant you may be confused. When you walk in the sushi bar is off to the right. Make sure you don’t veer off to the left, otherwise you’ll end up in the main restaurant where the food isn’t impressive.
