I come here almost twice tree times a month an can say that over all the 1 dollar Sakai bombs an a roll or two of sushi is a good Friday night an cheap, got to say the customer service can be better.

Because I come here so often and the women who work here always so friendly I’ll reevaluate my score give em 4 stars. Cheap, good, quick sushi. $ 1 Saki bombs will never get old. Veggie ramen is also great when I’m sick. I don’t really have any complaints.

Very yummy. Quick and friendly service. Good for sushi eaters and non-sushi eaters. Prices are average and the dining area is very casual.

I’m done with this place! if you see my previous review, I have been to this place numerous times. But ever since Tim left and opened Taika, this place has gotten even worse. The last two times the last few months I’ve been so disappointed, grossed out, and felt cheated. It smells like crap in here and the lady is a little cray about getting you into the restaurant. Second of all, I wanted to order a spicy tuna don, which is a bowl of rice and spicy tuna. They serve don because they have two options of don. I asked the owner lady who was our waitress if she can make a spicy tuna don. i asked her about three times to make sure and she said yes yes spicy tuna don! She comes back with my bowl that had bunch of sashimi on it and she points to the spicy CRAB and goes see i put spicy crab for you down here. I was like ummm okay… i asked for only spicy tuna… i felt bad so i just ate it anyway. low and behold the bowl was $ 15! Jesus. Spicy tuna bowl goes for about half of that. I was pissed but I got even more pissed when i found a damn HAIR in my bowl and they didn’t discount me or anything at all. This place is a joke!!!

My OB-native sister, Shelley, brought me here for their«half-priced» sushi. For me, a DC transplant, «half-priced» anything would only be served at a 4:00 — 7:00pm happy hour, IFTHAT. Shelley seemed to think, though, that this sushi was ALWAYS half-priced. I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to see if the quality could surpass its price. Turns out that the ½ off special wasn’t anywhere to be seen, but prices were shockingly low. I’m always pretty skeptical of low price sushi, specifically, but one glance behind the sushi bar and I was in heaven. Everything looked fresh(except for the sushi chefs themselves, who looked very experienced). We went for the crunchy roll, tiger roll, and rainbow roll. The crunchy and tiger rolls were definitely best. A couple of bones to pick: 1) it wasn’t SUPER busy or anything, but we had to ask multiple times to have our water refilled, and 2) I eventually ended up having to leave my booth and walk to the bar to ask once again for the straws we’d been promised 10 minutes prior. Though their service wasn’t anything to write home about, their sushi was: «Hi Mom and Dad, let’s go here next time we’re all in OB!»

Came here on Saturday with my son. After spending an afternoon walking around we decided to give this place a try. I asked the server for suggestions. She said to try the samurai roll. My son had a crunchy roll. The service was actually good. Our server was friendly. The restaurant and the restrooms were clean. I just did not like the food. I couldn’t even finish half. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. With all the restaurants in the area I probably won’t be back.

I used to have great times at this place. They had great drink deals and cheap sushi. It has considerably gone down hill. Tonight the house sake tasted like dirty socks, my date’s water cup was leaking and the replacement cup had lipstick on it. Then our wasabi had plastic in it from the wrapper that it came in. I’ve also noticed a pattern with the feet flavored sake, since this has happened multiple times here. The current owner also own Taika Sushi 3 doors down. I would avoid there too considering the type of business they run. Oh, and we walked in at 9pm and they close at 930. We were finishing up our drinks soon after 930, and the staff grabbed their jackets and hurried us out. Soo unprofessional!

This is my second sushi try in my life and i am in love with tempura sake roll. I think it is the best one who is new. I also tried mexican roll, california roll, tempura shrimp roll. But tempura sake roll is the best. Also it is cheaper than those of in downtown around gaslamp quarter. They have good staff. One time one of my friend gave her order wrongly when waiter came with wrong order she wanted to them to change the order and they immadiately did. It is not just a restaurant it is like your home.

I can’t stress enough to that this place is hands-down the best sushi place in San Diego. If you’re in the area, definitely try it out. Whether you have a hankering for fresh sushi, baked sushi, bentos, udon, or even beer & sake, this place is the place to go. The restaurant is walking distance from the pier, so you can walk down the street to dip your toes in the water afterwards. Perfect place for dates and hanging out with you friends. Will be back many times for sure!

Love this place. they are excited to have you come in and welcome you. their sushi is always fresh, cold and made to order. They have many options and pricing is GREAT… you can even get a pitcher(large) of beer AND a saki for $ 8 Best pricing deals in all of OB and best sushi in all of OB I live in OB… so this is the place to go if you want sushi. very nice staff.

I enjoyed their sushi and their prices were great! We ordered a couple of their regular rolls along with a couple of their speciality rolls. I thought they were all tasty and flavorful. The atmosphere is really laid back and really close to the beach. It’s a great place to have a low key but enjoyable night. It’s a smaller restaurant but we were still able to find seats. I would go back to try more of their rolls.

The dressing on their house salad is really good ! It’s a sweeter ginger dressing. Sushi was good, but nothing amazing. We ordered 3 specialty rolls. Prices were good too !

Local — OB sushi is alright but only because of the quality of the food. The atmosphere, location and prices are great but the food is mediocre. Food — Spicy tuna hand roll– I didn’t even finish this. The tuna was completely tasteless and the nori was too moist making it almost impossible to bite through. Spicy scallop maki — The rice wasn’t too bad but like the spicy Tuna hand roll, the scallops didn’t taste like much. It was almost a good thing that they put fake crab in the roll as well because otherwise it would have just tasted like rice and soy sauce. Atmosphere– The layout is pretty sweet because they have an open layout and large windows to sit at so you can people watch. The happy hour prices on drinks is pretty rad too. The staff was super friendly and they allow dogs inside.

We were walking up and down the strip on a Friday afternoon figuring out what to eat. Sushi was not on my list but I stopped outside to look at the menu. The lady came out and was pretty much adamant about having us eat there and I hate it when people are pushy but the minute she said ‘half off”, she had us at hello. My expectation was pretty low due to their Unilocal reviews and because I was not craving for sushi. We sat down at the bar stools facing the street. The same lady came by several times asking if we had any questions. We finally ordered and I would have to say it was not bad. We ordered baked mussels, dynamite, salmon sashimi, tempera roll which was okay because the outside was not as crisp, and the mango roll which was my all time favorite. You get what you pay for and at the ‘half off’ price, it was well worth it. I would go back and not order the mussels because it was too saucy for me. I would get the mango roll as it tasted fresh and light. Three stars for the food and an extra star for the awesome service.

Came here with a friend and although the sushi was alright, the service was kind of weird. We had 2 specialty rolls, a seaweed salad, and 2 iced coffees. The coffee was good. Had a peanuty taste. The rolls were well done with great flavor. Great presentation. The seaweed salad is awesome. I think I could eat that all day. Service was pretty slow to begin with. With only 2 tables being occupied, we were there for 2 hours waiting, eating, and leaving. When we did decide to ask for the check, the waitress came over and shoved it under my friends arm. Yes, he was a male. But she literally kept pushing it under his arm to the point of knocking his elbow off the table. I had never seen that before. It’s usually place it in the middle and leave it alone. Luckily for me, he took it as a sign to pay for the whole thing but STILL! bizarre and rude. Still good food though. The review is average of everything combined.

Lured in by a server with promises of 99 cent sake bombs, enough said. I ordered only from the basic rolls. The specialty rolls were a bit too pricey. There was nothing special about their basic sushi, which is sad for a place that has sushi twice in its name. I would come back for 99cent sake bombs but not the sushi.

I would like to give this place more stars but since I only tasted the basic rolls I’m gonna stick with 3. Service was really good. I was lured in off the street with the promise of 15% off the classic roll menu and 99 cent sake bombs. To be fair everything was good. I wasnt really wow’d by anything because again, i only ordered from the classic roll menu but it was good. The spider roll was amazing. The beer they use for the sake bombs was also really good. The waitresses were super nice and not very pushy. She actually explained the special menu to me twice without pulling an attitude. Its a decent sized place. The décor is cute, fits perfectly with the OB theme and very quiet and relaxing. Overall I would like to come back and try some of their specialty rolls and I would reccomend it. :”)

Wtf happened here?! New Year’s day was an absolute disaster. Post holiday troubles? I will say, the food was consistent with their normal offerings so at least the chefs weren’t hungover. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff was clearly on vacation either mentally or physically because it was the worst experience I’ve ever had here. OB Sushi is a 50% off all the time type of place, so we do not come here expecting to be blown away by the fish to begin with, but even for cheap sushi you can still provide competent service. Several items we ordered never arrived. To their credit, they never ended up on the bill either but if you are going to have people order on slips of paper it’s helpful to read the entire slip! It was also painful to order drinks having to track down our server, or anyone for that matter, to get a round of waters and some beers. How do you expect me to drown out this wasbi taste without some Kirin?! And to insult to injury it took 20 minutes to get the bill, after we asked twice! Once we paid(gratuity was added for our party of 6) our server came back demanding 55 cents. We knew we had more than one card so maybe it was difficult to process, but we had even double checked our math and knew we were at least a dollar over the added gratuity! After handing over 55 cents(to avoid having to argue over less than a dollar), she then insisted it was actually 58 cents that we were short. I promptly handed over an extra nickel to stop the pain and we left. It’s a shame that things turned out so poorly this trip because I’ve enjoyed it the past. While it’s not top notch sushi, drink are inexpensive and you can get your fill for a pretty good price. Unfortunately, I won’t be back any time soon after this fiasco!
