During a recent visit to San Diego, my friends and I were on a lookout for dinner options in Ocean Beach. After passing by Sapporo, we decided to step in and see if this would be a sushi place worth visiting. Unfortunately, Sapporo turned out to be quite a disappointment. While I appreciate the casual vibe of the place, the booth where we sat had an unusual odor that reminded me of urine. As you might guess, feeling like you’re sitting in a gas station bathroom doesn’t inspire the biggest appetite(and to their credit, it wasn’t an overpowering scent). I ordered a salmon skin roll and a shrimp tempura plate, and both items were mediocre. My sister decided to try the ramen, and prior to its arrival, I tried to hype up how awesome chashu ramen could be. It turned out that this was a mistake since she thought the pork had a funky taste, and when I tried it, it was not the butter, pork belly goodness that I’ve grown accustomed to. She ended up taking out the pork and tried enjoying the rest of the soup. It’s a pity that the food was not up to snuff, because the service was good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and our food arrived relatively fast. It’s possible that we just got food on an off night, but I don’t think I’ll be venturing back to Sapporo to find out.

stumbled into this restaurant near the beach. It’s a small restaurant and it’s kind of dark inside. My friend ordered vegetable tempura, which I tried — underwhelming. The tempura and the sauce are just not well made. I had a sushi roll with garlic sauce, but the sauce is really sour. Overall a disappointment.

My husband and myself ate dinner here last night. We really enjoyed the sushi. It wasn’t the best sushi we ever had nor was it the worse. It’s a solid average place. I took of one star because the service was really slow and the bill was kind of high compared to other sushi places however if I’m ever in the area ill stop on in.

Food was great and the portion was big. I just stopped by for lunch and didn’t eat sushi, but definitely coming back to try their sushi.

Great food. Friendly service. On busy weekend nights, guests should check their bills. The restaurant could be really busy, and the numbers could add up incorrectly. On Friday night, we think our bill was $ 10 more than it should be.

Excellent service, and the menu wasn’t overly expensive. Sushi was great, and with some local breweries on tap, this is a great place to grab some rolls and a beer before wandering aimlessly around OB w/your wife as she she shops for antiques. Agh!!!

I love this place! Sushi is great and it has a very complete bar. The owner is very nice, she always greet us and show a nice smile. The chefs Lupe, Ricardo and Jeff are always very attentive and Joe at the bar is a great bartender. I highly recommend this restaurant in OB. Thank you guys you rock!!!1

My friend and I had an amazing experience at this low-key joint on Newport Ave. We sat at the bar by choice, although it was pretty full on a Saturday night. We watched the master chef at work and ended up ordering some legit options that weren’t on the menu. This place knows the importance of freshness and variety when it comes to sushi craft. Lovely lady seems to be the owner, took a lot of pride in her restaurant. Ask if they have the salmon roe and quail egg available… looks like an alien eyeball and tastes incredible.

I may have finally found MYSUSHISPOT in San Diego after many attempts. Walking by I could smell the deliciousness, and since I knew there was a full bar, it was game over. we entered and were immediately greeted by everyone working and seated at a comfy table. there aren’t many tables since it is a very small place but it is cozy and doesn’t feel overcrowded. our server, Tutu(sorry if I spelled it wrong) was incredible. she recommended the perfect rolls, was very attentive and friendly and everything came out perfect. we started with sake bombs($ 2 all day everyday) and the garlic edamame. one of the best edamame appetizers I’ve had and I get it everywhere! we ordered a second order because we woofed them down so fast. one of the guests at our table ordered the chashu(I think) pork ramen which was unbelievably good! perfectly spicy with tender pork, flavorful broth and tons and tons of ramen noodles. the bonus is that it was only $ 9! for sushi we tried the two rolls that were recommended to us by Tutu, the fiesta roll and the tomato roll. the presentation was lovely, the rolls were a generous portion and everything tasted amazing and super fresh. let me reiterAte that I am most definitely a sushi snob and this place is the real deal! I will most definitely be coming back!

This place was great! Every roll we had was great. Try the Caribbean roll and fiesta roll. You can tell the rice is very high quality and the flavors go together on every roll.

This is a nice old fashion type restaurant. Sushi is awesome. I had the chicken teriyaki with the shrimp tempura. Loved it. They also have a nice sports bar area. It’s not big but not closed in either. Had a very nice dinner experience. Love to come again!

How to «win» an argument and lose a customer. We have enjoyed this restaurant for years. Great food and good service. We were there tonight with a party of 5. An attorney, two college professors, an accountant and a math teacher. Excellent food and very pleasant & competent server. Our bill was $ 91 and we left $ 110 cash in the bill tray. Over 20% tip and she earned it. Upon leaving the owner pointed to our tray and said that there was $ 93 in the tray and our tip was insufficient. She insisted that we needed to leave a larger tip. We insisted that she mis-counted. She would not budge. I pulled another $ 20 out of my wallet, gave it to her and said we would never return. The owner’s response? «Fine!» How sad.

Potstickers: delicious! Love the sweet sauce they are served with! Sushi is fresh and beautiful! We had the OB Roll and Fiesta Roll(and maybe one more(reason not to delay in writing post)) Quick service, really nice interior, and well-priced!

This is my go-to sushi place. Their yakisoba and bento boxes are also a must when dining here. Prices are very reasonable for their portions and great taste. The owner and servers are always very friendly. By far, my favorite place to dine at in OB.

Great Sushi and friendly staff Our family had a really fun dinner at this great little sushi spot. The fish was really fresh and the staff was extremely friendly. Max our waiter gave great advice on where to go surfing. The women who owns it was was great. When I asked about parking she said follow me. She lead me to the alley and had me double park behind their own cars. Wow that was great of her.

2 hand rolls & edamame for $ 20. Really? Beware: Hand rolls are the same price as regular rolls. Was told that they will be pretty decent/satisfying considering the price. What I got were 2 very small hand rolls that looked like kids size(soft shell crab & spicy scallop). Spicy scallop HR: i got rice with cucumber &1 piece of scallop!!! For $ 7-$ 8!!! Soft shell crab HR: I only got ½ of the crab! Other places serve a whole soft shell crab hand roll for $ 7! What a joke

Solid four star review. I had a sushi craving this Sunday and wanted to stray away from my usual sushi spot so I decided to take a chance on this cute cute sushi place right down the road from me. Food was visually pleasing and the other Unilocalers are right, the fish is fresh! Price could be a little better but I’ll pay for freah food. Good sushi place in Ocean Beach.

This is a great little sushi place. I went at about 4:30pm in an attempt to take advantage of happy hour pricing. Unfortunately, they have a very limited happy hour list for food items($ 1 off certain sushi rolls). I did experience great customer service during my visit. The older lady working at the hostess stand(I believe she may be the owner) was very kind and helpful. She changed my water for new when the ice melted in my glass and even brought me a rubber band to place around my mail I had brought along with me. To give the place a try, I ordered a variety: the Alaska Roll, the Vegetable Roll, and the Salmon Skin Salad. All of my dishes were fresh and very flavorful. I definitely recommend the Salmon Skin Salad as it is a great change of pace from the typical sushi offerings. Overall, I take away a star for some of the prices being a little higher than I am used to. However, I plan to continue regular visits here in the future!
