The food smells good but the lady serving must have been PMSing. No reason to be rude when getting chicken and fried rice. Smile and be kind I am not going here again. No wonder rice king had imploded in the navy and San Diego area. Stop being stubborn and greddy.

At NMCSD, we only have the following choices when it comes to dining out at the compound: the hospital cafeteria, McDonald’s, Subway, and Rice King.(Oh yeah, and the mini-mart.) The Rice King here is pretty much the same as the other Rice King locations I’ve been to — the only items I really like here and recommend are the teriyaki chicken, chicken egg rolls, the lo mein, and the vegetable chop suey. Everything else gets a pass from me. However, this Rice King’s a bit different in that it offers sushi and chicken nuggets on their menu. They also have a chef’s special — but as it had meat in it(which I gave up for Lent), I’ll have to try it at some other time. I really wish that Rice King would start carrying chicken yakitori again — it sucks that it’s pictured in their ads, but it’s not a menu item.

I don’t know why I ate here AGAIN. It is sooo gross but it smells so good. In the past two years I have had to walk past that smell at least a few times a day and have managed to remind myself of how horrible the food was despite the enchanting aroma. In those two years I have eaten there 3 times…1st time: I will try anything once. 2nd time: I went to lunch with a group and they chose RK. 3rd time: I was on my way to the cafeteria and my body was so sore from the cracked ribs from the soccer game on Monday(they feel cracked… no doctor has actually said that I cracked a rib) and leg workout on Tuesday that I decided to save myself the walk and eat at RK. The worst idea I have had in a really long time. It pisses me off that they wont give you half rice and half chow mein, you have to get FULL orders of each if you want both. So I get both, orange chicken, and beef and broccoli. The rice and chow mein are mediocre, not terrible. Now the orange chicken flavor is fine… until you get one(many in my case) that have globs of breading batter in them that isn’t cooked all the way through and you bite into this disgusting glob of dough. Then there’s the beef and broccoli. It taste like someone poured that fake smoke flavoring all over it and the meat is not beef, more like cat. To top it all off I get a chicken egg roll. I cannot begin to describe how gross the texture of this thing was… it made me dry heave… I almost puked. I had to spit it out. Needless to say, I was hungry 5 minutes after throwing all the food in the trash and had to go get a lunchable at the mini mart. Yum.

This Rice King exact location is in Building 26 of Naval Medical Center, San Diego aka Balboa Naval Hospital. They have variety of selections of chinese food. My favorites are the Teriyaki Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, and the orange chicken. Do not try the fried chicken I repeat do not try the fried chicken! This place is very well maintained and there staff or somewhat friendly they just ask what would you like no really any enthiusiam you can tell they really hate their job but that’s understandable. Since I work here at lovely NMCSD, we don’t have much of a choice it’s either McDonalds, Subway, Rice King, or our lovely mini Navy Exchange so thank you Rice King for atleast being here!

the regular food is ok but I wanted yogurt one day and it tasted like dirt and dirty tap water. I tried to ask an employee to taste it so they could see what I was talking about and the manager got mad at me! im not the one with gross yogurt!

Rice King is an Asian fast food restaurant located on the campus of Naval Medical Center San Diego. This is the most abbreviated Rice King on earth. You stand outside and order your food by pointing at the dishes in the steam table on the other side of the window. Nothing special, but because it’s on the first floor of the barracks, it’s an easy place for the Marines and Sailors who live there to get a quick hot meal. The girl who works the afternoon shift is really popular. It’s pretty common to walk by and see a Marine not ordering any food, in a wheelchair or on crutches, at the window or the side door flirting with her. She is so sweet!
