The only positive was that it was delivered quickly and the driver was really nice. As for the food, it was honestly disgusting. Nothing was fresh, it smelled bad, and tasted worse. I have no idea how this place has good reviews. I’m about the least picky person(practically a garbage disposal) and I never complain about food. This was terrible. I paid $ 46 for three rolls, seaweed salad, two miso soups, and two sodas. Why? I would have *much* rather had Safeway sushi.

Great spot around the corner from the Walgreens, where I had a long wait for a prescription… I was sick as a dog the night before Thanksgiving so all I wanted was hot soup, not to wander around the pharmacy for half an hour. To my relief, the waitress was very welcoming despite my walking into the otherwise empty restaurant ten minutes to closing. I ordered a miso soup, sunset roll(both delicious) and hot sake which she brought in no time with a huge smile, and insisted on filling up my travel mug with more hot water. Cozy, homey atmosphere, accommodating… I’m never in this hood but would come all the time if I were!

Asa is awesome! It’s the one neighborhood sushi spot in the Marina neighborhood that is relaxed, friendly, and consistent. We’ve cycled through almost everywhere else in the area, and this is the one place that actually feels like a genuine neighborhood spot. And one that doesn’t make us want to rip our hair out on a regular basis. To boot, all the sushi we’ve tried has been awesome. From rolls to sashimi, its all been solid, and better in quality than both Sushi In and Ace Wasabi’s(two of our previous sushi jaunts). Even better, it all comes out super fast, and when you sit at the counter you may even receive a few special treats. If you’re looking for a party go to Ace Wasabi’s. If you’re looking for a weird/dark/almost clubby hole in the wall, go to Sushi In, but if you’re simply looking for good sushi, good service, and a quiet atmosphere, Asa wins.

— Miso soup was too sweet — Sashima combo exorbitantly overpriced, doesn’t come with enough sashimi and didn’t come with miso soup and salad. Leaves you hungry. — Salmon teriyaki was also stingy on the portion of the salmon and heavy on the rice, skin was too burnt –Clearly a restaurant that is cutting corners and costs

Best Sushi restaurant in the city. My girlfriend and I go at least once a week. The owners run the daily operations which is probably why it’s so good.

It was my first time ordering for Asa. I Ordered a couple of rolls and nigiri. The fish was fresh and the delivery was quick. Overall, very satisfied!

Over priced mediocre sushi, nothing special about their rolls and their lunch combos are very small portions for the price they charge. Once their miso soup tasted odd. I came back to give it another try and it was just ok. Waitresses are friendly.

Sushi was super fresh and service was friendly and excellent. We got the rainbow roll which was the best, and the negoha ma roll was also delicious.

It was chilly outside and I was craving some hot tea and some veggie sushi. This place totally hit the spot. The staff was very kind and our server took time to show us which items were vegetarian friendly. I am a tea lover and the toasted rice green tea was perfect. For 3 people our bill was only about $ 42 total. Very reasonably priced and cozy. I would go back.

Who can screw up miso soup? They can. My co-worker and I lunch on Chestnut 2 – 3 times a week and gave Asa a try yesterday. The lettuce was fresh for the salad because I guess you can’t fake that but otherwise EVERYTHING was way past its expiration date. We made up that horrible lunch at the Chestnut Bakery a couple doors down which is fantastic.

ok so i ordered the Tuna poki and Seafood Udon, Quite possibly no wait the worst asian cuisine that i have ever had. Poki was basically Tuna on daikon overdosed in siracha. The Seafood Udon was very bland with almost no seafood. wont be ordering or going here again. Very disappointed !

All in all, they are good, and close by(which is really what keeps me coming back). I’m reviewing a specific dish here, the Chirashi bowl, which is fine. Not great, has all the basic fish, but nothing special, and I’d honestly probably not go here specifically to get it. There are better things to get on the menu than this. If you DO have a hankering, eat in while ordering this dish, they make it better than if you order it out.

Great spot for diner with some great sushi and reasonable prices. The spicy tuna was actually spicy which was great. I would recommend the booty booty roll if you like anything deep fried. The staff was polite and quick. No lines or wait at all.

Eww. This is not sushi. This is smelly, gross fish disguised as sushi. This is the type of place you avoid for health concerns, let alone taste.

Really great service and very sweet staff. The spicy tuna roll is beyond spicy! They offer well priced lunch specials. Special rolls are a bit pricey but the regular rolls are decently priced. Chicken Teriyaki plate offered a great value with a little of everything.

Great lunch spot with plenty of lunch deals. Had mostly the sushi lunches and the odd combo dinners with chicken or beef teriyaki with soup and california roll. Decent quality for the price you pay [most meals around $ 8 – 12 at lunch time].

While the service was spectacular, the food was not. As other reviewers have mentioned, the fish not fresh and the meals seem to be microwaved. I got a salmon teriyaki dinner with an ebi tempura roll. The salmon was small, overly dosed in sauce, and waaaay over cooked. Due to the fact it was so heavily dependent on the sauce, it was difficult to determine if it was recently cooked or just heated up. I believe that it was microwaved. The roll wasn’t much better either. In fact, it was bland and unsatisfying. The reason I gave it two stars is that the waitress is trying really hard to maintain a nice atmosphere, and that’s difficult when your restaurant is full of children.

Congrats Asa, you’re officially the first sushi joint to give me extreme stomach cramps and vomiting. I’m not doctor so I can’t call it food poisoning but it’s definitely your food. For reference I had the spicy tuna roll, the negihama maki(yellow tail and green onion) and the spicy albacore roll via delivery. Here I lay in the middle of the night on the bathroom floor painfully seeing your work again. Hate you. Hate you. Hate you. AVOID!

Asa Sushi reminds me sitting inside a Studio Ghibli film. With Ponyo. A steel submarine window as a door, paintings of sushi and the eyes of a hungry big black cat visually devouring the fish, and other paintings, make this spot charming and soothing. It was a slow night and service(they are more popular with delivery) was focused solely on us, so we got to experience some extra attention. But still, they initially got the order wrong and we had to wait a long time. In the absence of our meal, they gifted us some spicy salmon skin rolls topped with roe — it was quite delicious and has the quality of a true, home-cooked meal. The owner is very kind and their menu is endless and intriguing, too. Despite this, I get the sense they are not as confident with their restauranteur skills because the young waitstaff seemed hesitant and clumsy in service and absent-minded. Skip the Potato Croquettes($ 6.95), the potato is over-puréed(like baby food) & as it is a new list to the menu, needs some more reworking before it can be sold as ‘yummy’. Try the Beef Don($ 9.50) Booty Booty Rolls(Spicy tuna, crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese, $ 10.95) or the O.M.G.(Eel, Crab, Avocado, spicy scallop tuna and shrimp, $ 13.50) or the Husband & Wife(Cucumber, avocado, spicy tuna /ebi, seaweed salad on top, $ 11.95) for the name alone. Pro-tips! #1: If you have little ones to feed, they offer a ”Children’s Plate”(9 years & under) which includes soup, rice, vegetable tempura & a choice of either Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki or Salmon Teriyaki. All. For. $ 5.95. Talk about frugal and cost-effective. #2: Delivery is free with a $ 20 minimum order but is only an option during the dinner service. #3: They are closed on Sundays. #4: Plan ahead for parking, it’s a doozy. #5: Some customers made their own versions of sushi rolls & now they are on the menu! Including the 911, the G Slam, Sunrise, Sunset & Zizi.

I would possibly order a meal again from Asa, but probably not sushi. The Tekka Maki was not all that fresh and there was no sauce on the unagi. Only the Spicy Scallop was decent in the sushi category. We also ordered the Seafood Dinner which included a nice variety of fish but they didn’t bother to de-vein the shrimp.
