Erin was absolutely lovely. I’ve been to a number of salons in the city and can never find someone who will actually listen to and give me what I want. I told her all about my bad, past experiences and she made this one so much better. Being very shy, I usually dread these type of situations where I have to sit and make small talk, but she was one of the easiest people to talk to that I’ve ever met. I never felt awkward or out of place which put me at ease. And I love my haircut! It looks exactly like the picture I showed her, and she answered all my questions about blowdryers, purple shampoo, and whatever else I managed to bug her about. It was also reasonably priced.

I needed a trim and thought I would give this place a try since I live in the neighborhood. I won’t be going back. I would not recommend that you go to Erin for a haircut unless 1) you like being surprised by a cut that doesn’t work at all for your texture and is not at all what you discussed before the cutting began and 2) you like spending the amount of time a celebrity takes to get red carpet ready to do your hair EVERY DAY. It has been a few weeks and I am still extremely unhappy with the haircut Erin gave me. Even after having it professionally blow dryed last night by my colorist, it looks horrible. Pieces sticking out everywhere and frizzy. It will take months and many expensive trims to get this fixed.

Today was my first time at backstage salon and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great haircut at a reasonable price in SF.
Anthony was my stylist and he did an amazing job taking off 5 inches of my hair + adding in more layers and thinning out my hair. He can do amazing things with a blowdryer! My hair is usually thick and heavy and he was able to make my hair flow beautifully! Not only was anthony great, but every client that i saw walk out of the salon looked amazing. Will definitely be coming back for my next haircut!

Nobody creates this type of movement and pigment blue in my hair! True talent and the charisma to match!

I follow this man like a celebrity stalker because his hands create magic with my hair! Sounds ridiculous, but I’m not exaggerating.
I was lucky enough to get a recommendation from a good friend and went to Anthony with a hair emergency. I had an ombré gone WRONG (this was probably 2 – 3 years ago) and was willing to pay senior stylist pricing for my color correction.
Anthony met with me and immediately diagnosed my hair issue: over-​processing. He did a beautiful balayage with an excellent cut and style. It was love!
I’ve since gone to him for everything from highlights, glossing, keratin and creative color — my hair is blue now with an asymmetrical cut! One of his best qualities as a stylist is his versatility. He gets to know his clients really well and tailors their hair according to their lifestyles. He knows when I tell him I want blue hair, I’m ready to bleach and commit to the look. On the same hand, he knows that when my mom asks for a «big change» she’s only comfortable going a few shades lighter on her highlights! That being said, he’s not a mind reader so bring a few photos of what you like for your first appointment.
He’s handsome, stylish, friendly and has a fantastic sense of humor — I never dread spending a few hours with him because his personality keeps me feeling like I’m hanging out with a friend!
I just went to visit Anthony at Backstage and I really like his new space — very open, high ceilings, Kerastase and Bumble&bumble!

I have been going to Zach for 17 years and have never been disappointed. He always makes my hair look amazing. He does it all as well (color, cuts). I get complements on my hair frequently.

Went to Erin for the first time and she completely exceeded my expectations! She did a great job at touching up my grown out roots by giving me natural sunkissed highlights which had that «lived in look», — I’ve never experienced before! Usually when I leave the salon I can’t wait for my color and cut to grow out a bit and settle down but the type of coloring she used made my hair look amazing on day 1 and will blend with my natural color easily when it grows out allowing me to go longer without needing a touch up.
She also was super easy to talk to, honest and funny. Wish I could give her more than 5 stars! Thanks Erin!

My hair is ruined after having a haircut with Zack. I went last weekend to have a haircut after so many months. My hair was long and I asked for I haircut where I can be able to do a ponytail. He just took my whole hair and cut it with scissors shorter that I thought! and then he just trimmed my hair and spent more time drying it that cutting it. when he finished I wanted to be positive and wait to see how I feel and get used to, but I don’t know what he did, but my hair’s ends are horrible, they just point out and looks bad. I don’t think $ 85dlls was worth it. Now I don’t know what to do, I think I will wait a little bit because I don’t want it shorter to fix it.

Over the past ten years, Anthony has been one of my regular hairstylists. He is the only stylist whom I can say, «Do whatever you want, just don’t cut it short.» or «I want it cut shorter but not sure what kind of style, so surprise me!» He knows what I like and he knows what different hairstyles will look good on me. Not only because he knows me, but because he knows the latest styles and he knows how to match them with different face shapes and people’s personalities.
I usually don’t color or even highlight my hair, I usually keep the color natural (and boring). However in January I wanted a change, so he added some color and went a little blonde. He did a great job with the cut and color. However after about a month, I couldn’t get used to the lighter shade so he darkened it by adding «low-​lights»? At first it was dark dark brown! But it started lightening up and blondish highlights were shining through. It was pretty awesome! I haven’t had it colored since then and may not want to for a while. I still see the highlights! I just love what he does and how he does it! He’s very professional and very attentive to his clients’ wants and needs. He loves what he does and he’s very good at it. You will not be disappointed!

OMG!!! I found Anthony!!! He used to do my hair 10+ years ago I’m Modesto. Recently I have been doing my own touch ups because I can’t seem to find anyone who will take the time to listen to exactly what my wants and needs are in regard to my hair. He’s brutally honest and has told me on more than one occasion that he will not compromise the integrity of my hair for some passing fad. He cares about how I look and feel and I always leave feeling 100% confident that he gave me his professional best. I am so glad I made the appointment and made the trip out to SF! I recently had my hair highlighted, lowlighted, and cut by Anthony Cuevas. I was fixing a bad ombré job that did not turn out well. I was very skeptical of going to get my hair done because I did not want to ruin it even more. I took his recommendation in how to fix it and was super happy with his expertise and professionalism. See pic. The color and cut was perfect! This is the second time he saved my hair. By the way, the new space is welcoming and nice. Great people and products.

Anthony Cuevas is AMAZING! He spent over 15 minutes with me to figure out exactly what I wanted, gave me several options and walked me through the whole cutting/​styling experience. The salon is relaxed and has a funky vibe. Parking was easy to find and I liked the neighborhood. Everyone there was really nice and welcoming. Going back soon for color… CAN’T WAIT! I highly recommend Anthony and Backstage salon.

Cool salon, great ambience. Best of all, my stylist Anthony. He’s been cutting my hair for a few years now and I’ve followed him to Backstage. I’ve had my hair short in a sort of feminine pixie cut to a faux hawk to letting it grow out now. I constantly get compliments just walking down the street. And you know you’ve gotten a great cut when its at that urggg-I’m-growing-it-out in-​between phase and people still ask you who cut your hair. I should be his agent and getting paid for my referrals.

Sheila is awesome! She helped me thin out the jungle growing on top of my head so that my lion king faux hawk could be visible. At the same time, she was awesome in nailing the hair color I wanted too! WOOHOO!
The receptionist and the other staff here are very professional. The receptionist’s English is slightly limited, but she was very friendly. I almost walked right past this store since the Walgreens stood out the most on the street. It’s literally right next door and the bus stop is pretty close by too (because we all know parking is a total b1ch around here).

The stylist Erin was so thoughtful. Told her to give me a cut, left it to her to make me handsome. She was caring thoughtful and does a great shampoo job. Explains processes thoroughly when I had questions.

Erin Kramer is so wonderful. She turned my brunette locks Carmel and blonde. I’m in love!

It’s been a while since I had the haircut. I was going to write it right after the work, but waited until I see the real effect of the haircut. I got all the positive comments from my friends. The hair style was very trendy and looked good for a very long time. I don’t have to go back as often as before, which saves me money and time. My 9-​year-​old daughter went to a salon with me for the first time, and she enjoyed it the whole time. She felt she was treated with respect and loved her haircut. She said she wanted to com back to Erin. Yes. Erin. She got down on her knees to trim my daughter’s long hair. She was the star. Thanks a lot, Erin.

Since, I’m in San Fran, I tried my best to find a decent place for my haircut. I found those $ 70 – 90 haircut not really worth the price, I was ok with a $ 20 one in the mission for a while but…
I recently found the best quality-​cost deal with backstage and especially with Ken. This guy is simply an artist! Cost $ 40 and I’m finally happy :)

My first time dying my hair or specifically getting ombré style. The process was uncomfortable because it took so long and I was over heating under the many cloth on me, and washing my hair was painful. I had Zack help me, and he was amazing, but he had an assistant or a second person help me and she was just painful. Blow dried my hair AND my face, pulling my hair when washing it, and dousing hot water on my sensitive scalp and face. What she is good at though, is styling the hair.
I think overall is that Zack colored my hair very well, and his assistant or co-​worker was good at styling my hair in which overall made my hair look pretty, but the thing is that I didn’t look good in it, or if it does, the important thing is that I feel like it’s me. I chose the wrong color for my hair and I don’t like it now that I have spent a day with it. I was trying to like it instead of just immediately having that connection of loving it and feels like me. I would stay and say that I want a redo, but I had to leave for an event.
I think Zack and his co-​worker does hair well, but I just wish I could change my ombré color into something else. I am unsatisfied…

Got a haircut and some experimental partial highlights from Erin! I have virgin hair and the fact that I got highlights on a *whim* meant that I trusted her :)
