I have spoken with Daniel twice about our difficulty integrating new young cats with our older female. Though we don’t live in his area (so couldn’t have an in home consult) we used Skype for the appts. I appreciated his detailed information gathering prior to the first session (we filled out a questionnaire about the cats and history of the problem).
Daniel was so calm, knowledgable and helpful regarding the issues we have been dealing with, and came up with strategies that have been useful and effective. I am so glad we found him (from a friend on FB).
Our cats are doing better and gradually making a reasonable adjustment to each other. I feel better able to respond appropriately to our kitties, and so I feel less anxious and worried about them. I really thought we wouldn’t be able to help them live more comfortably together, but things a significantly better over a 3 – 4 week period. DQ is our hero! For the first time in six weeks with my cats I feel like I have some hope that they will get along, and I learned a ton about them and how they perceive me. I am trying to integrate a rescue cat into my home and my resident cat is unhappy, so they fight. I integrated a rescue cat into my home where I have an old resident female. Needless to say she was not that excited about her bigger, submissive male roommate. I worked for three weeks on my own, by the books, and felt I could use new tips from an expert. DQ to the rescue.

DQ saved us! Our cat spent half a year peeing on everything in sight. DQ analyzed her behavior as marking rather than urination. We decided to adopt a second cat and wow my older cat was not happy about it. When a cat goes to war it can be a pretty stressful situation! I thought I was a savvy cat person, and we had done all the right things about introducing them, but we needed help. If we could not work things out with the new kitty we would sadly have to bring her back to the shelter. DQ visited our flat and observed the situation, then coached us via email. He gave very practical advice and was optimistic but also sensitive to the reality that things might not go the way we all hoped. We learned to provide lots of positive reinforcement whenever the new cat was in the presence of the older cat, and to be observant and give them a time out before any hostility escalated. And we learned to be patient and let the older resident take to the interloper at her own pace. Things improved step by step. After a month we are delighted that our two girls are living very harmoniously.

I cannot say enough good things about DQ! He came to our house to help us figure out how to help our cat RT. He is so nice and thorough, he listened and studied the layout of our home and offered eye-​opening solutions. At no point did we feel judged or criticized. We are very grateful to DQ for helping us with a tremendously difficult agression-​related situation we had with our 5-​year-​old abyssinian cat.
She went from being a 5-​lb. easygoing, devoted, cuddly goofball to a terrified, aggressive, highly agitated cat that we were afraid to be in the same room with after we returned from a vacation last fall.
DQ’s experience with and understanding of cats was obvious right away when he came for a consultation. He was able to recognize some of the factors that may have been increasing her anxiety and gave us a idea of how common this can be in cats, which helped eliminate some of the mystery. He seemed to put out an overall calming and non-​invasive energy that not only allowed him to interact with our distressed cat but also really rubbed off on me. After he left I actually felt real hope that other people have gotten through similar situations with their anxiety-​ridden or hyperesthetic cats – very important to us because at that time we had spoken with several vets who didn’t seem to have any experience with this.
Our kitty is now back to her wonderful self, with some help from some meds that help her very much. It took a combination of some great specialists at VCA and the at-​home interaction with this very experienced and intuitive cat expert to make our lives normal and happy again. When our orphaned kitten, Lucky, came to us at 4 weeks old, we thought, «It’s just a kitten… how hard can this be?»
One year later, the answer is this: Really hard. Cats can be really freaking hard.
Lucky is a highly energetic, yet sensitive soul… and after a series of moves, her need for attention and fear of new people in our home reached its peak. Oh, and it had ruined our social life. So, we called Go, Cat, Go.
DQ replied quickly and arranged to visit us in San Jose just a few days later. When he arrived, Lucky was clearly displeased by his presence (as is her norm with all visitors), but DQ took it all in stride and let Luck go about her business while he observed. DQ is a very calming presence, and it was obvious he’d spent time reviewing the lengthy notes I’d sent him in advance. Even when Lucky put on her best hissy show, the one that might send the average guest out the door, DQ was not fazed and kept chatting with us about his thoughts on Lucky’s behavior and potential fixes.
Within two days, DQ sent us a TON of information and recommendations specific to Lucky’s situation. It turns out our scaredy cat isn’t so scared after all… she’s just one territorial high-​energy princess.
In the past two weeks, we’ve incorporated lots of DQ’s suggestions, and our home has definitely become calmer. It’s not perfect, but we’re so much closer to a livable situation.
Most of all, DQ made us feel affirmed about the good work we’ve done with Lucky thus far, informed about our kitty’s unpleasant behaviors and empowered to make changes in our home. Previously, we had spent lots of time asking vets about her behavior, reading books and articles to find answers… all to no avail. But within a few hours, DQ gave us a whole new perspective on what makes our little beast tick, and how we can better orchestrate our home and behavior to work with, rather than against, our furry friend.

I had some work done in my apartment at the end of 2013 and the noise and unfamiliar foot traffic completely freaked my cats out and they started taking their stress out on each other by fighting. At first I thought, «Oh, it’s only been a few days since the commotion, so I’m sure they will calm down.» Fast forward to a month later, and the fur is still flying.
It was time to take action.
First I called the SPCA and they quoted me over $ 300 for animal behavior services and you have to bring your cats to them, which just seemed weird to me since a behaviorist should want to observe the cats in their everyday environment. That’s when I took to google to search for a cat behaviorist in San Francisco and lo and behold, the Go, Cat, Go! website site popped up! I e-​mailed Daniel with the problem and he got back to me right away and we made an appointment for the following Saturday at my house, for a fraction of the SPCA price. Clearly he appreciates that cat moms and dads want to fix their cat problems ASAP!
During our meeting, Daniel reassured me that my cats are actually still BFFs (I thought they started hating each other), but he also provided insight into my cats’ behavior and offered many helpful suggestions with ways to relieve stress and tension in the house so that the fighting ends altogether. It’s still early after the appointment and there have been a few squabbles (I wouldn’t expect things to change overnight), but I woke up this morning with Chloe and Rocky snuggled together next to me on the bed. Oh kittens! Fickle kittens! If you have cat issues, you will not regret calling upon Daniel and Go, Cat, Go! to the rescue!

One of my two cats, the timid one, was very sick for about two months and I separated them so he wouldn’t have the additional stress of being asked to play all the time. When I tried to reintroduce them, the dominant cat acted like he thought the recuperating cat was prey. I Googled «cat psychologist» and found Daniel. (The first Google site, BTW, said «I am sorry, but cats are not licensed as psychologists in California.»)
Daniel came over twice, observed them closely, and gave me a lot of ideas. Things were far better, but still iffy, and I started giving them Prosac. Now they are together 24/​7, except for when they get their meds. The dominant one no longer tortures the timid one and is much mellower than before this nightmare started. The other one is a little braver and has stopped biting his nails. It was a lot of work but better than giving up one of them and crying my eyes out. I really, really grateful to Daniel.

Daniel built his expertise in understanding cat behavior during his years with the SPCA… and I do mean he is a true expert. We first met him when we were about to move our two indoor-​only male cats (brothers) from an apartment (the only home they knew) to a larger house. We knew the move would be traumatic for them and wanted to decrease the stress of the experience.
Daniel came over and spent nearly two hours getting to know us, the boys (Mao and Stalin because — yes — they are dictators) and the logistics of the move. He even asked to see the new space we were moving to. As a result of his sensitive, sometimes surprising questions, the relocation went without a hitch. The boys were a bit stressed out before leaving the apartment, but immediately and happily settled into their new home. No trauma — no bad behavior… when we woke up the next morning, it was just another day for them as they happily explored their new surroundings.
Daniel is a godsend for us. He’s been by again to see how they are acclimating and gave us great suggestions on how we can make their litter situation better and make the house an even more fun playground for them. As a result, we have two very happy, friendly boys who literally jump for joy when they see Daniel come to visit. If you love your cat (s), do them and yourself a favor: call Daniel. You’ll be glad you did.

I can’t say enough awesome things about Daniel and Go, Cat Go! I have two indoor cats and one had some litter box issues. He not only made great suggestions to improve the litter box issue but suggested great toys as well. Daniel is an expert in cat behavior and my cats seem much happier since his visit. It’s been several weeks since his visit and my cat who never even buried her business has even started doing that. It’s a much happier home because of Go, Cat Go! :)

We we’re on vacation and our neighbors were supposed to care for our 2-​year-​old cat. On the 2^nd day of our vacation, we received a frantic call from our neighbor. She said that our cat attacked her and would let her near. My wife was so concerned for our cat and the neighbor, she went online to book a flight home. Then I remembered Go Cat Go since I had photographed the feline behaviorist/​owner, Daniel. He immediately assured us that our cat Coco was actually doing something easy enough to manage and understand.
We arranged for a meeting between Daniel and our neighbor, where upon Daniel became the primary caregiver for Coco.
When we returned from our 2 week vacation, we found Coco much like herself when we had departed for our vacation. As for our neighbor, luckily we’re still friends.

I take care of several community (feral) cats in my yard. All have been through the SPCA Community Cats program. One of the cats, Orange Tom, decided he wanted to be my indoor/​outdoor cat. He’s a sweet two-​year-​old who needs a lot of attention. He’s playful but can sometimes play too rough with my small, 15-​year-​old dog (who usually isn’t interested). He also had a disharmonious relationship with the downstairs neighbor’s small dog (the dog was afraid of him and he seemed to be bothered by her as well). I’d seen him be a bully toward the other community cats and, not really understanding cat behavior, was anxious about keeping him as a pet. The idea of giving him away was also really upsetting.
I found Daniel and Go, Ca, Go! on Unilocal and gave him a call. He came over and watched me, my boyfriend, my neighbor and all the animals interact with each other. It was great! He helped de-​mystify Tom’s body language, gave suggestions for dealing with Tom’s need to play, and suggested changes I could make to the layout in my apartment that have helped. His assessment of the cat’s interactions with the dogs was reassuring. I’ve relaxed a lot, and as a result, my dog and cat are also much more relaxed. We’re really glad Daniel is in San Francisco and was available to come over to help!

Daniel is amazing. He really is a cat whisperer genius.
We were having very serious problems with our cat — he was pooping and peeing outside his box almost on a daily basis. It was BAD. We kept trying different things, and nothing helped. In a frantic SOS we reached out to Daniel and he fit us in right away. He immediately clued into things that I never would have guessed — like the fact that the cat preferred to pee on the short/​soft mat that was right outside of his litter box rather than inside the box where I had piled up the litter. The solution was to make the litter box more like the mat — so we emptied the box except for about an inch of hard packed litter and the difference was immediate. Daniel gave me a list of recommendations to improve our cat’s behavior, and we’ve been following them ever since. Within days, the poop/​pee situation totally resolved itself!
Things were getting dire in our household, and thanks to Daniel we are one happy family again!

Daniel came to my house when my cat, Mimi, was having a problem with peeing all over my sofa and chairs. I rescued her from a breeder 6 months before and she had ruined 1 sofa and 2 chairs. I needed help!
He evaluated her behavior and made several observations. Daniel’s had many helpful suggestions and he emailed me a 2 page write-​up of all the details and a plan of action.
Success! It has been 7 months since his visit and my cat is well-​behaved after implementing his ideas. Bravo! I am so grateful that my cat is so happy now. Daniel is excellent in solving all kinds of animal behavior problems.

My cat was having some issues peeing on our furniture (bed and couch) and it got to the point where I was considering taking him to the SPCA because I couldn’t figure out how to resolve his issues. Several people recommended I contact Daniel first before making and drastic moves. I am so happy I did!
Daniel called me back right away (and saved me from dropping off my cat in haste), calmed me down, and assured me to try a few things first. Daniel came to my boyfriend and my apartment and not only assessed the situation (litter box, space, type of litter, food, potential stresses) and also took the time to really understand our issues, why they may’ve started, and how to resolve them calmly. He spent quite a bit of time explaining our cat’s body language and what he is trying to tell us (which, oftentimes we ignored). I think hearing some of the things Daniel had to say would’ve been so helpful before our cat even started having issues!
Daniel is very professional and extremely knowledgeable. So far, everything he has suggested has helped. By making a few changes, our cat is less stressed out and is much happier and it’s only been a couple of days. Hopefully this trend continues! I think it will.

We adopted a kitty from a high-​kill shelter in SoCal last Christmas, had him transported up to SF and at first, everything was cool.
Then…something…happened. He began to pee and poop outside of the litter box and worse even, he started peeing on me and my boyfriend WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING… IN OUR BED!!! Needless to say, we quickly became frustrated. I second guessed my decision to save this dude, but turning him in to ACC was never an option.
I had previously worked with Daniel at the SFSPCA and when I heard about his new behavior consulting service, I knew if anyone was able to steer us in the right direction, it would be him.
Upon arrival, Daniel observed the dynamics of our place. (We have two male mini schnauzers, two very playful adult male cats and one male 18-​year-​old diabetic and hyperthyroid bull of an old man cat. Yes, we have a LOT of animals and I have no idea how we got our apartment.) He took lots of notes and asked us lots of questions. After about an hour, he came up with some suggestions of things we could and should change. He suggested a larger litter box, more litter boxes throughout the house, possibly eliminating our Clever Cat litter boxes, an escape route from our main litter box «room» and the removal of the door to said room, suggesting maybe he was being stalked or taunted by the other cats and feeling trapped.
We removed the door to the cat room and purchased an under the bed storage bin on wheels that we used that as one great, big box on one side of the room and two Clever Cats on the other. We also (reluctantly) added an open box to our living room. There was SOME improvement, but there were still several «accidents».
Things remained the same for a few weeks, with Daniel following up regularly to see what changes we had made and giving suggestions of other things we could try. Maybe he didn’t like the Clever Cats, etc. Turns out, THAT WAS THE PROBLEM! Once we got rid of those Clever Cats, we got rid of our problem!
Turns out, just because WE liked the Clever Cat boxes because they are so clean, does not mean our little dude did. So we have to sweep litter up? We had to do that anyway and I’d way rather sweep up litter than wipe up puddles of pee and piles of poop ANY day!
Daniel is a savior! The stress level in our house has gone down drastically and our previously troubled kitty (his name is Francis, btw) is now relaxed and happy too!
We highly recommend Daniel at Go, Cat, Go! and would use him again in a heartbeat if we needed to! (Hopefully we won’t need to.)

I have 2 cats and 4 that live outside. So many different personalities and behaviors they all have. I had some problems with my male cat Lonzie and the other female for quit some time now. Thinking he was Bi polar, I introduced them to Dan when he was in town, and he seemed to give a different diagnosis.
He explained some things to me about him that really helped. He also showed me some exercises I should be doing as well with them. Now they get along really well. Everyone is happy here :)
