This place is nothing special. Typical Mexican food, sports TVs, and nice staff. They are currently under renovation, I’m excited for the reveal, hopefully they’ll vamp up the menu too!

I walked by today(as I do every day) but today I noticed all the windows completely covered in paper — Has Parrilla closed its doors? If so, I will be totally bummed as this is one of my favorite places to sit outside and drink a pitcher of Margaritas with friends and random strangers. Please say you are remodeling — please? 8^(

Another yummy restaurant my wife and I found just walking up post street. Everything we had was delicious, be it the appetizers like the wings, bacon wrapped shrimp(bacon rules!) or nachos or one of their Italian dishes . The service is excellent and the waiter remembered me the 2nd time I was there and remembered what I ordered — go figure. Prices are reasonable, portions are perfect. I dont drink so I cant comment on the bar. Check it out ! It was so good that it closed down ;(

I’m pretty confident it was the mole that helped bump this place up to four stars for me. The homemade sesame seed mole tastes like the stuff I’ve had smuggled back from Mexico, a little grainy and exceptionally delicious. My friend ordered the fajitas, which I snagged some bites from. The prawns were huge and the peppers layering the bottom were not a dripping, greasy mess. The sangria claims to be made with brandy, another potential for a higher rating if it’s done right. Unfortunately, I have a hard time believing there really is brandy in their mix. Overall, I think it’s a win for sit down style, Mex-ish food.

I’m a sucker for Sangria and the scent of sizzling carne on the parrilla basically pulled me into the place. Before we knew what was happening my partner-in-dinner were perched at the bar on one of their heavy decorative stools. We started off with a round of Sangria and it was weak. Now after years of sangria research I know which one packs a punch and which one is doctored up fruit punch. So the Sangria is not the best but that’s no big deal. While we were there our bartender mixed 4 pitches of hornitos Margaritas and they looked like they would make your legs wobble. For dinner I ordered the combination fajitas: thin strips of steak, chicken, and some succulent prawns with store bought tortillas served on a sizzling skillet. Next time I’ll just get prawns and steak. The chicken was unimpressive non offensive chicken.

We stopped in for a late lunch on a lazy Wednesday afternoon using a Group On Now voucher. Décor is slightly upscale and all was clean and pristine. Our waiter was also the bartender. He was helpful and attentive. The problem was the food, which was, simply put, MEH! We ordered two appetizers, chicken tacquitos and beef grande nachos. In fairness the tacquitos weren’t terrible. If I were forced to return it wouldn’t kill me to eat those crunchy morsels stuffed with chicken. But the nachos? Pure yuck. The beef tasted literally like what comes out of a Dinty Moore Beef Stew can. That was a taste I swore I would never have to endure after scraping to get through college — alas, 30 years later and my perfect record has been shot to hell. Next I must mention the chips which were so drenched in a poorly-tasting cheese sauce reminiscent of liquid Velveeta, that most of the crunchy chips had turned as limp as those dear old men clammoring for their Viagra. This may be an ok neighborhood bar, but please don’t rush in for the food. I warned you!

The food saves this review! Went for the first time because I had a cert and it’s near by bfs place. We ordered a pitcher of margs which were $ 5 off for happy hour, and we had to flag our waiter down to order our dinner. I ordered the mole chicken enchiladas and my boyfriend got the red snapper. Our waiter disappeared again and, starving, and noticing the other tables with chips and salsa upon them, flagged our waiter down for chips and salsa. Our food was great, and my bf would come back just for that red snapper. However, at the end of the meal, the waiter refused to take the $ 10 restaurant cert because we had gotten happy hour margaritas! This is even after I explained that our food purchase alone exceeded the minimum amount to be spent. He finally agreed to issue two separate checks. It was quite a hassle and if I go back i sure hope I get a better waiter!

There’s a lot of burrito places in the Polk Street/Nob Hill area but I’m finding it a wee bit difficult to get good enchiladas. Most burrito places don’t have them, or in some cases don’t have just plain cheese enchiladas. Sure I love burritos, but saucy saucy enchiladas are the shizznit sometimes. It’s telling when I have to get them at Chevy’s and last time I had them, they gave me some weird chunky salsa-type sauce on them instead of yummy tomato sauce. I’d been to Parrilla a few months ago, but in my goldfish brain I forgot. Walking by last week, I passed a neighbour sitting out front with a sauce-covered burrito that looked awesome and I asked him how he found the place and he said it was excellent. Of course this meant I had to text the boy with«HAVEWEGONEHEREYETANDIFNOT, WHY???» Apparently we had, I’m just a flake and didn’t remember, but I made a point of saying I wanted to go again. Imagine my surprise when I found out they have $ 10 pitchers of Margaritas during happy hour. Yesplz. We went in for dinner yesterday and one pitcher of tequila goodness and a plate of yummy cheese enchiladas in the perfect sauce and I was a happy camper. A slightly tipsy camper, but happy nonetheless. The price was right on($ 30 for two dinners plus the pitcher), the restaurant is pretty comfortable and had some hilariously great 80s retro music playing which provided some great conversation topics, there’s outside seating, and the service was quick and polite. I wouldn’t say it’s the ~*best*~ Mexican food I’ve had… if anything my plate did remind me of what I’d get at Chevy’s(enchiladas, beans, Mexican rice, albeit far smaller helpings so you don’t feel like you’ve eaten your week’s worth of calories in one sitting). Check it out if you’re in the area. I plan on going back to grab a queso fundido: I haven’t had that since I moved from Toronto over four years ago. I swear, if theirs is as good as the one I left behind in TdotO, I’ll upgrade them to five stars. Queso and Sangria… I think that’s my next meal there. Sangria comes in pitchers too. Not sure if they’re also under the $ 10 happy hour umbrella… I hope not because I would probably drink two or three all by myself.

I think the service was fantastic and even the décor was kind of nice(definitely interesting). But the food itself was kind of lacking. I ordered the paella and while I admit, it was tasty, I did wonder why they relied so heavily on the sauce. My BF got the Calamari a la Provincial and it was deep fried and drenched in a sauce — which would be fine if we hadn’t anticipated white wine lemon sauce. We even joked about how our dishes basically tasted the same. This place is definitely decent — heck, the service alone was great but it’s not exactly remarkable food.

Mole is such a curious dish. There are dozens of recipes. The one they use here is more chocolate than nutty. Came here on a quiet Monday evening around 7PM with friends who’d been here before. The place was pretty empty and the welcome was fine. Our waiter was good, prompt and friendly. The food, we all agreed, was fine, good flavors and tastes and at a good price point. Doncha hate it when reviewers expect ***** 5-Star whatever and don’t wanna pay the price? This is an OK place to grab a meal, maybe have a beer and watch some game, and just chill on Polk. Come to Parrilla and enjoy!

If based on food alone, Parilla is pretty standard but their attentive and personal service makes it stand out from the Polk Street pack. Let’s start with the food. Burritos are huge here but otherwise pretty normal. Monday’s deal is pretty good — $ 2.50 tacos and 2 Coronas for $ 5. The tacos are decent here. The ceviche salad is a nice and refreshing change-up form the meat dishes but it can be a little tart. Lastly, avoid the garlic lime fries. Curiosity will kill the cat on this odd one — you file it under bad combination ideas with the likes of Bud Light Chelada. But as I alluded earlier, service is the star at Parilla. Folks here are eager and attentive. We had a couple of beers comped one evening because there was a minor mix-up in our orders. Service here is just truly amazing! For this reason, it’s easy to make return visits to Parilla.

The food is amazing, but its the waiters ass that keeps us coming back! He’s short, cute, a HUGE flirt, and tho you’d never guess he’s actually Russian. But about the food. Taco duo is excellent, healthy, lo-cal and you can never go wrong. A cup of bowl of albondigas(spanish meatball soup, touch of lime juice). For fattier fair there is fried calamari with chipotle aioli. And I’m sure that waiter has a name, but… seriously, who cares?

Okay people, so THIS is the type of spot you should go to when you’re craving Mexican/Latin/Spanish types of food. Parrilla was awesome! We recently purchased a Bloomspot offer to dine here and decided to try it out. The service was beyond friendly! Everyone was so, so nice. It just felt like you were dining in a homely kitchen. I really love the simple, yet authentic vibe of the place. Chips & salsa were normally $ 1, but for us? On the house! Super sweet folks! We ordered a bunch of things including the yucca fries(must try!), the enchilada rojas(one with chicken and one veggie), the veggie fajitas, and also the fried ice cream for dessert. Everything was really spectacular! The red sauce on the enchiladas was fantastic — flavorful and spicy! The only thing I wasn’t totally impressed with was the dessert selection. But hey, that can always be improved on. The fried ice cream was just okay, but while the shell was fried, it wasn’t hot enough to contrast the frozen ice cream within. I’ve had better versions of the dessert, hence the lack of impressiveness. Oh, and the strawberry syrup? Must be eliminated. Way. Too. Much. Sugar. The place is totally reasonably priced and located conveniently on Polk Street. Check it out!

We’d been for a couple of drinks in a nearby bar and needed to eat, the look of this place wasn’t too appealing but the food looked pretty cheap so we thought we’d give it a go. We really regretted it. It was pretty noisy(it was about 9pm on a Sunday so fair enough) although there weren’t many people in there. The waiter brought our drinks over and said he’d be back in a few minutes to take our food order. He wasn’t. Over 15 minutes later he came back over, he was really apologetic and said he’d give us another drink on the house and brought us some free nachos and salsa over. The nachos were pretty rubbish and the salsa was really watery. By this point to be fair we’d have eaten anything so munched our way through them waiting for our main course. We both ordered the veggie fajitas and were really disappointed when they eventually arrived. There was a large skillet of veggies each but it was mainly onion with a couple of other veggies on there. We got a small plate with a little lettuce, a little sour cream and small blob of guacamole. We also got a small bowl of black beans each(which I’d told him when I ordered that I didn’t want) with a little cheese on the top. It was all just really, really bland — no taste whatsoever. After we’d finished, we sat another 15 minutes or so waiting for our plates to be taken away. Everything took so long I regretted having ordered dessert at the same time as my main course as who knew how long that would take and by this point we just wanted to leave. The Kahlua Plantains sounded lovely when I ordered them and I don’t know if they were trying to over-compensate for the terrible service but when it turned up it was a huge plate of crap. Some fried plantain(pretty charred), a massive pile of really cheap tasting cream and ice-cream, loads of really sickly strawberry sauce. Now I’m not usually at all fussy about dessert and would pretty much eat anything if it had ice-cream or cake with it but even I couldn’t eat this, it was really terrible. The server was really apologetic and to be fair, he didn’t charge for the nachos, dessert or two of our drinks(which I had said I didn’t want but he brought anyway). He said he’d been up partying all night and only had 3 hours sleep so was struggling. I’m not sure if this was supposed to make things better?! The meal ended up really cheap due to all the free stuff but really not worth the couple of hours we had to spend in there and the food we did pay for really wasn’t worth paying for. I can imagine it’s a pretty fun place to party and try their many tequilas on a Saturday night but as for going there to eat — avoid!

I came here a few weeks ago for dinner with the girls. All in all, a fun spot, good food, and good prices. We started with the Sangria. A pitcher for only $ 15, what a great deal. NOT! Terrible Sangria. Seriously the worst I’ve ever had. On to Margaritas. Margarita pitcher was also $ 15. After the Sangria failure we were still hopeful. This one turned out to be much better. We stuck to those for the rest of the night. We shared the cheese fundido for an appetizer. This dish was basically a pan of melted cheese with a few jalapenos thrown in for color. It was pretty tasty, though a bit difficult to eat(the cheese was quite thin and rolled right off the chips). A couple of the girls had one of the enchilada dishes. They looked good and reviews were positive. Another girl had a ceasar salad with shrimp. The shrimp were large and tasty(I stole a bite) but she was a bit disappointed that the lettuce came uncut, too much work on the consumer’s end. I guess that is just a matter of preference though. I got the steak taco salad. It was good, but not great. The steak was not very flavorful and the salad just didn’t have that special something that sets it apart. If I went again I’d try either a shrimp dish or the Argentine Beef dish. Prices were cheap so there is incentive to come again, just not for the Sangria.

I’m a fan! I’ve came here twice now for happy hour and both times it’s been enjoyable. The first time, I arrived«late»(6ish) and could only find one table in the wayyy back to sit. Enchilada was good and the sangria was tasty though! Came here again this past week early(5pm) and was able to score a table outside. Ordered two tacos($ 1 off tacos isn’t really that awesome of a happy hour Parilla…) and a pitcher of Pomegranate Magaritas to share with friends and was happily full(and buzzed after 2 – 3 drinks) when happy hour ended. The waitstaff here are all great– very friendly and quick with orders/checking on drinks. Definitely an awesome happy hour place!

3 stars for the happy hour &2 stars for the food. Their big signs advertising their happy hour is what drew us in. The environment is low key and chill, although a bit dark. The food needs a lot of work. Service was OK. I’m sure their other drinks were better, but I’m not sure about the food. — Sangria: sucks, i’m sorry but it did. watered down bad red wine. i wish we didn’t get a pitcher of it. should have went with the pitcher of margarita — Chips & Salsa: a bit spicy, nothing special — Chicken Mole: sauce was not that good, i scraped it off and ate the chicken — Ceviche Salad: OK, nice and light

Ayyy caramba! Parrilla is a decent latin spot for sangria and meeting with friends on a casual weekday. My ladies and I came here for happy hour on a Monday night and were pleasantly surprised with tasty $ 5 pitchers of delish sangria. The spot is casual, and wasn’t too crowded at the time we came, but by the time we marinated and pitchers came after, the place started bumping during dinner and they seemed a bit short staffed. We got a few yum yums to snack on for happy hr… the street tacos that were $ 2.50 each were not bad, but not fabulous. Hailing from sd, I have high standards on Mexican food, and these were just ok. At least the steak one was. The calamari, recommended by our server, was overbreaded and overcooked. However, when our server asked how we like the calamari, seeing that we barely touched it, he knew something was up. He ended up removing it off our tab, because he even knew it was overcooked. so YAY for good and attentive service. As happy hour soon became dinner and more friends joined, we ordered a couple entrees. The shrimp ajillo was amazing, enough to split between 2 girls, it was tasty, well seasoned, and indulgent. The queso dip had a nice kick to it, and my friend’s fish tacos seemed to meet her craving. All in all. Parrilla is a spot for good sangria and a casual environment. not the best on food, but plenty of the pretty folk of sf were up there to people watch.

(See pic) Well Saturday and this place is not busy. A bit unusual you would think. And happy hours on a weekend until 7pm?! That’s very very unusual. A group of us came here shortly after and because my buddy was kind enough to make a reservation they were nice enough honoring our happy hour Sangria. It was still delicious even it’s a bit watery. But instead of 15 bucks it’s only 9 bucks for a pitcher. Really good deal. The nachos were also good with decent salsa while we waited for everyone to arrive. The chicken enchiladas was okay good and filling, a bit hard to beat those in the Mission. Overall the service was good and the decoration was nice. This place can easily turn into an upscale more loungy style and could be a big competitor to next door Amelie if they would improve the food taste.

How could you not come here for Happy Hour?!? $ 2 Trumer Pills and $ 8 Pitchers of margaritas with free chips and salsa! Weds night they do have trivia night — which can be quite exciting of course depending on the patrons(and how wasted they are!). Ian is the cool guy trivia host. Been here a couple times and had a super drunk off your ass night! Haven’t tried much of the food — only a little bit here and there. I don’t need to eat when I can drink beer!
