Have been coming here for years. This is a great spot for all things hardware. The staff is super helpful. I have described a home issue to them without knowing «the vocabulary» and they know just what I am talking about and what would be the best way to fix it. AND they don’t look at me like I am an idiot and ask me to send a more knowledgeable (i.e. male) person. Also, love that they take old light bulbs and batteries to be recycled. I do buy all of my light bulbs here.
Agree with others that this business is one that makes the neighborhood a great place to live.

I’ve been coming to Progress Hardware for 40 years. It’s a great neighborhood hardware store with a great selection of handy things that you forgot to get at the lumber yard. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they all seem to know the store well. Prices are fair for a store that’s close and convenient. Don’t buy all your building materials for the construction of a 16 unit building, unless you aren’t very smart, but if you need a power strip or a cable tv splitter, subfloor adhesive or a light bulb for your refrigerator… Progress Hardware is for you!

Always helpful which is great for someone like me who is not especially ‘handy’

These guys got everything. I picked up parts for my drip irrigation system in the back yard (I still am watering my trees in the drought, but much much more efficiently) and I also got a recharge kit for my soda stream. Super helpful staff, and they have an absolutely amazing variety of merchandise. While they are not as inexpensive as a home depot, they actually know what they have and are extremely helpful.
I always stop here before I go to home depot or one of those place. They also make keys that work, while some of the ones I have had made at the larger stores do not.

Blows my mind how much they fit into such a small spot without making it feel overcrowded. Awesome hardware store, anything I could possibly want/​need.

Staff us always helpful and you won’t have to look far to find them. Heck you probably will have to scoop around them considering how compact the store is
I usually come here to have keys made or to buy supplies for minor repairs though like most men I find it fun sometimes to wander the aisles browsing the different doodads and tools and imagining more elaborate projects,

My boyfriend came here to get his key copied, and we had a perfectly good experience. The service was good, the key person was polite, and we got the key done in less than a minute. Just 2 bucks amigos!

Very helpful people, no pretension, and a greater variety of items than you could ever imagine would fit in that space. They choose carefully what to carry, and they know their customer base.
I consider myself lucky to live near Progress Hardware; it’s one of the many reasons I love so much living in the Inner Sunset.

I’ve lived in the Sunset for 2+ years now and this is my go-​to hardware store. I know very little about house maintenance or building furniture which makes buying tools a bit daunting. Luckily their staff is extremely nice and eager to help. Every single time I come in, I got what I needed and they always point me to the cheapest option that’ll get the job done.

The staff here are all very friendly and helpful, so I really wanted to give them a good review. But unfortunately, after having two straight bad experiences with their products, I can’t. The first time I went in to get a replacement halogen light bulb, I was handed the right type of replacement, but just before checking out I looked closely and noticed that the filament was broken. They wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t caught it (not difficult for halogen bulbs). I carefully grabbed another one, and it worked fine — but only for about 6 months under very normal usage conditions. It just now burned out, far before the duration of its expected life. Before that happened I actually went and bought another of the same type of bulb there, and upon installation discovered that it’s luminescence is at best half of the nominal value.
I can only conclude that they do not stock quality product, and must therefore recommend buyer beware — at least when it comes to lighting and/​or limited lifespan products.

This place is magic. They somehow always have what I need. I don’t know how they do it, either, because the space is definitely on the smaller side.
Need keys cut? Spray paint? Razor blades for scraping bumper stickers off of your car? Furniture oil? They have it! I have purchased all of those things in the past year from this awesome hardware store. The employees are always super helpful, too. Don’t go to Home Depot if you just need a few things — go here!

I love this spot for any and all home improvement projects I’ve had. The staff is great, and they have everything you need to keep your home in great shape.

I moved into the neighborhood a little over a month ago. As I’ve been busy with little projects to make the new place fit my needs, I have found myself visiting this store at least ten times. Every time I have been there, they have been quick to greet me, and help me find anything I need. When I have had questions, they have shown they care and provide helpful suggestions to complete my projects. Beyond hardware, they have a good selection of kitchen items and cookware. Really happy this store is only a block away from me.

They have good quality stuff (I bought a door mat and faucet sprayer) and were super helpful when I walked in.
However, their items are a bit pricey and I even got charged $ 1 more than what was tagged (the faucet sprayer was tagged as $ 15.99 and I was charged $ 16.99)! I didn’t even realize it until I got home, but I wasn’t going to go back just to get a couple of bucks adjusted. :\

I love this place. They have never let me down and have helped me out when I was in a bind on more than one occasion. I come here for hardware supplies, random home goods, gardening needs and also for advice on how to make simple repairs to my apartment when I’m not sure what to do. Service is great and they are always happy to help you find what you need.

I am a very frequent visitor and they almost always have what I need. If you are doing a repair project and accidentally buy the wrong part, they make exchanges easy and the staff are very helpful in sorting out what you need. They also sell housewares, cleaning supplies and now they do Soda Stream refills — a little bit of everything. As far as the prices go, I think they are fair and often just as cheap as Home Depot but with no lines, far better service and a super convenient location. The N Judah practically stops at the front door.

Needed to get keys copied and the guy working there made 2 copies of 2 keys in less than 10 minutes. Quick service and it looked like this hardware store had a lot of useful stuff!

Came here pretty early in the morning (around 8am) and was pleasantly surprised to find them open. I Unilocaled hardware store and found this place.
I ventured out today to find a set of pliers to fix a mistake on building an ikea bed. The guy was super helpful in answering my questions, and I left with a little set of tools.
I did walk around to see what else they had and was even more surprised that they sold a bit of everything! They have utensils, kitchenware, wine bottle openers, and a bunch of random home goods in this tiny little store!
I can’t actually tell if the pricing is competitive since I was a bit tired, but I’ll be back if I need anything else.
