Food was very ordinary and smothered in cheese. You can get similar or better food for less very easily. Service was good. Plus they have very odd hours and take cash only.

Place takes CASH or CHECKONLY! Have been curious to try this place for quite a few years, but they were always closed when I went. I didn’t realize they have odd business hours. I’m glad I finally got to check this place out. It’s like going to someone’s house for dinner. Service and food were good. They play some cool tunes and have some interesting artwork displayed. Not a big fan of wine-aritas but the agave wine they use makes me a fan of theirs! Anyone know where to buy a good agave wine? Luckily I had my checkbook on me, which is rare. What a trip to pay for dinner via check! Weird but kinda cool. Will be back soon.

This is my favorite restaurant of all time. It feels like home here. Maybe it’s because the owner is the sweetest lady you’ll ever meet. Maybe it’s because the food is delicious, reliable and comforting every time. Regardless, this is the only place I ever want to eat. They start you off with fresh, in house salsa and chips. I always order a beer to go with the chips and salsa and then the Ginny burrito, adding rice to the inside. Portions are big enough that I always have almost half my burrito for lunch the next day. I’m completely addicted to the pasilla sauce that the burrito is smothered in. Mmmmmmmm. They are cash only so come prepared. They accept phone orders and take out too so now you have no excuse not to try this wonderful, family owned place.

CASHORCHECKONLY! Casa Calderon is one of my fav Mexican restaurants in my area. I have been coming here for years with my family and never have i left disappointed. The salsa and chips are yummy, although I must say the salsa is not as spicy as I’d like. Today I had the chicken soup! I absolutely loved it! Perfect for this rainy weather :) I also tried the #7 Dinner special which comes with rice, beans, a Chile relleno and a hard shell ground beef taco. I especially liked the Chile relleno, but I think I’d pass on the ground beef taco(more of a shredded beef fan). Also, you can never go wrong with the enchiladas here! Service is always great and they have an A rating! What are you waiting for?!

Wouldnt even give it a star! Will never come here again, 2 Street Tacos no rice or beans cost $ 9.50! When I questioned the owner she gave me a break down of how much she pays for meat! And was told at least I got chips and salsa. Rude service! Surprised this place has been open this long!

Service was great! Atmosphere was great! Food was delicious! I’m a sucker for Mexican style food, be it authentic or a more Americanized version. This is definitely a little more american style and I love it! Tacos are good with cheese on them. Simply based on was it yummy and would I go back again? Yes, I can’t wait to try more things on the menu!

If you like/love mom and pop joints this is for you. Delicious food and no silly froo froo décor. Just a really good and simple family fare. Home fried tortilla chips and a great salsa to start with. They are habit forming. Had the ranchera enchilada and Chile relleno. Too much food and I’m going to have a great breakfast tomorrow morning.

My husband and I seriously felt like we were being welcomed into someones warm cozy home. As we sat and waited for our food, romantic 50’s tunes played in the background as we dug into the most delicious fresh homemade warm chips and salsa. My husband had the carne asada plate and I had the wet burrito and albondiga soup. We have to say the flavors brought us back to our childhoods. just like grandmas cooking! That’s what sopa de arroz should taste like! Everything is authentic and full flavor! Did I mention the chips and salsa are bottomless? Linda the owner was awesome she even gave us chips and salsa to take home!

OK” so it was my first time here. And I must say it was a great experience. From the time I arrive to the time I left. The atmosphere the décor, just everything about this place was great. Let me tell you the music selection they played while you’re having your meal was excellent. Not too loud not to soft just right. They have a variety of different selections from the menu. And if they don’t have what you’re looking for, they will do their best to make sure you have something just like it. I know five stars but really yes five stars all the way”” from the time I arrive to the location to the time I left. So if you’re looking for some good old authentic Mexican cuisine you come to the right place. And when you come here you’re definitely going to understand what I’m talking about. Make sure you say hi to Steve and Linda Two of the most greatest people you could ever have the opportunity of meeting. Bön appétit everyone”

Old school restaurant since 1963. I’ve been wanting to come here for a long time, we finally ate dinner on a Saturday night. The warm chips and salsa were a hit but I wish the salsa would’ve been a bit more spicy. The Tony’s special plate was good and the tortillas were nice and fresh tasting. This is a family run restaurant with friendly service. The only drawback that most customers complain about is that they only take cash.

Not bad. Very friendly people. The burrito was huge! I will go again to try the nachos. My wife likes the sopas a lot. The salsa was homemade, fresh and good. I will go again

The service was perfect, but we did go to eat! The only thing we enjoyed were the chips and salsa! We ordered El dorado the chicken was unflavored plain and it had huge chunks of tomato slices which is not normal in a burrito.

I love this place and it is SO needed in the Alhambra/San Gabriel area. The flautas are my favorite, but their enchiladas are a close second. Even their basic chips and salsa are terrific. AND… the owner, Linda, is a real sweetheart. True family home cooking — I love this place and go any chance I get! Cash only though… so go prepared!

The service started with fresh chips and delicious green salsa. Next we ordered the Agave wine margarita(made with Agave wine, triple sec and lime juice). Loved it! Prefer this over a regular margarita. Then we ordered the«Beverly Taco.» Bomb!!! Hubby ordered enchilada and taco plate. He loved it. This place gets 4 stars because they only accept cash, which we were unprepared to discover. But we will be coming back! Not Bad – 4 margarita’s two meals $ 42.25

I wish I can give this place 5 stars. They have it all; authentic setting, authentic food, and a great family running the restaurant. The employees here are the best and so nice, but fair is fair. The food is worthy of 4 stars not 5 :/ Still a great spot though!

Why I love this place? It has that classic Mexican feel to it when you step inside and take those first bites of your meal. You’re greeted by an adorable lady and gentleman that I assume own the place. They’re sweet and always available with recommendations. Their chips and salsa are just amazing! The chips are fried ever so lightly that pack a great big punch of crunch! Their plates are delicious filled with a small side of rice, beans and a salad. I opted to try a carne asada taco and an enchilada. I wasn’t a fan of the hard shelled taco, but the enchilada was great and piping hot, topped with ooey gooey cheese! I wouldn’t say this is the best place for Mexican food, but it’s a great place to feel welcomed and never rushed. You’re surrounded by a friendly staff and leave feeling full and happy.

Awesome Chips and Salsa! I like this place, They have something called a Tony’s Plate, which is a Carne Asada Plate and it fills me up pretty well. One of my rules in reviews is that if the Restaurant has something named after you, you give it a 5, so here’s a five! Also the Chips are totally the best chips ever. Like ever EVER!

Like stepping in place forgotten by time. Relaxing sounds from the 20s to 40s play while enjoy home made authentic Mexican food that’s been served here for over 50 years(according to our host, a very sweet woman who just might have been the owner or manager). This place is a gem, don’t miss it!

I should really be aware of my surroundings, I’ve lived in the area for so long and only now have noticed Casa Calderon. It’s been around from 60s according to the regulars I went with. They are come so often that they even have menu items created in their honor! =D To me the food isn’t authentic Mexican since they serve hard shelled tacos with cheese on top, but keep in mind un-authentic doesn’t equal un-tasty. I would prefer to go to this place over El Torito or El Cholo any day. It’s family run and the people here are down to earth nice and treat you like their own family. Since this is a real restaurant and not Taco Bell, it does take some time for the food to get out, so I am grateful for the chips and salsa they provide to stave off hunger. The tortilla chips are thick and crunch, and so freshly made that sometimes you actually got to wait before they are cool enough to eat! I’ve been here a few times and everything I tried was demolished. If you are starving go for a burrito(any style, but«John’s burrito» is recommended) they are bigger than Chipotle’s burritos. The combo plates for dinner is also recommended for first timers so that you can try a little of everything that Casa Calderon has to offer. Everything I tried is fresh, from the greens in the salad to the crunchy taco shells. If you have no clue what to order just tell the waitress what you feel like eating and she’ll help you pick out something on the menu or create a custom combo. Now don’t abuse their niceness, but they will def. make custom things not on the menu for you. since they strive for customer satisfaction. I’ve also noticed that every time I’ve been they routinely checked to make sure there was enough chips and drinks going around. It’s such a positive change to eat at a place that asks, «How was your food?» and sincerely want to know how you liked it. They remember you and what you order regularly so that they can make it they way you like next time, now that’s service! =) Random: Where the blocked off staircase go? Secret dungeon room? :p
