This place has been around forever. One of the very few restaurants that has passed the 20+ years mark & can be categorized as a tourist hotspot. It is situated in the corner of the L-shaped commercial complex on Senter/Umbarger, w/parking to be a little hectic at times. This is as authentic as you can get for Vietnamese dishes. Did I also mention that the pricing on certain dishes is way below the other Viet Bars? Family runned business makes it the ideal place to bring your family & kids also. Staff are super friendly and are attentive at maintaining their bathrooms. I like the Laus(hotpots) here because their side condiments are plentiful without the overbearing prices you will find at the Viet bars. My Tip: Come here first to have great eats, get full, have a few beers then head to your Viet bar destination. You will save a lot of money !

I don’t know about everyone else but yesterday I called in for a pick up and the lady answering the phone was very nice. From all the reviews, I had to prepare myself so I can deal with these people. Mind you was my first time ever with this restaurant. Came to pick up my order and the lady there said hello and that my order was already done and waiting for me. I greeted her back and thanked her. and off I went. The service I received was very nice… my advice is just try to be polite to people and not give any attitude… because I am sure they will giveth right back! I will be back! Happy Eating peeps!

Customer service is beyond terrible. The lady«waitress» watched us come in and threw three menus on a random table and walked away. There was no greeting or verbal exchange. She had a cold face and a rude attitude. Therefore 5 minutes in we walked out. Never had I gone to a restaurant and was treated so poorly… no wonder there was no customers in there.

Been here for 7 minutes so far and yet still no server. The workers are standing around chatting. Service at your local fast food chain is more pleasant then the service here. I just hope the food is good. Otherwise what a waste. Oh and $ 38 for 1 crab. Oh lawd!!!

Danh’s walks a fine line between a really lousy quan nhau(Viet bar) and a really bad restaurant. It does neither job well, but it does neither job poorly. Like a Viet bar: — You’ll see empty Heineken bottles everywhere. It is consumed here more than tea or water. — You may need at least a reasonable ability to speak Vietnamese in order to get your order Unlike a Viet bar: — the waitstaff is actually there to wait tables — Heineken costs less than $ 20 — You will not end up getting shot or divorced or both — an extra $ 20 tip is only a tip. It will not result in an STD. — no karaōke. Like a bad Viet restaurant — It’s dirty — There are sketchy clientele after 8:43PM — There are empty Heineken bottles everywhere(see also quan nhau). Unlike a bad Viet restaurant — their bo luc lac was pretty dang good and at normal prices — their canh Chua was also pretty legit — while the restaurant was a mess, the food and serving plates looked totally clean I don’t really know what to think of Danh’s. I like their food, it’s a mess, the waitstaff is dressed for tips, you need to learn some vietnamese to order, Heineken EVERYWHERE!!! That’s pretty much all you need to know. Oh… …and the drug dealers are there after 9:32-ish so go early or get shot.

This was my favorite spot for Vietnamese hot pot before I moved to SoCal for school. The atmosphere and service definitely leaves much to be desired, but the sate hot pot is fantastic and the prices are affordable. My family only comes here for the sate hot pot, honestly. A large hot pot is in the $ 30s and I believe the smaller size is around $ 6 less than the large one. The large one can feed a family of 4 – 6. The food has always been excellent for us and the dipping sauce is great on the side. Vermicelli/noodles can be refilled upon request, but I don’t think they refill broth for free. This place is comparable to Lau Hai San. I like both, but Lau Hai San in the next plaza definitely has a more family friendly atmosphere and probably better service too. This place is more of a drinking place for middle aged Vietnamese men to get away from their families, so not surprising for it to get loud and boisterous. This place also isn’t as English friendly either. Besides the hot pot, they probably have some good Vietnamese drinking food, but I’ve never personally tried them. Everyone I’ve seen who comes here always gets the hot pot. But maybe one day, I’ll try some of the drinking food.

Danh’s! What happened? I was back in San Jose for the weekend, and had time for just one meal and I chose YOU! All I wanted was some of your phở ap chao goodness. You gave me stale noodles that was so hard, no amount of sauce could soften it up. I’m so very very disappointed in you. Not sure if the morning chef and the evening chef are different or not, but 12pm on a Saturday was no bueno for sure.

sometimes you have to sacrifice getting good service to get some great food. you sacrifice both here.

The customer service is pretty bad here. The waitress kept speaking Vietnamese to me and I’m not even Vietnamese. We walked in the restaurant 1 hour before closing, and she immediately asked if we wanted to-go. We sat down and she asked in Vietnamese if we can move to another spot. We ended up moving over to a table closer to the kitchen with a box of Heineken on the edge of the table. When the food came, it was pretty good to my surprise. From the awful service I expected food made in a rush, but it was not bad. I ordered vermicelli with beef and I loved the beef. It was wrapped around onions and tasted yummy when I bit into it. Prices aren’t bad either. They still have poor service here, though.

A restaurant where they serve almost everything ! You can find your hot pot of different types, soup, phở and other noodles of some type. What I really like here is their family dinner meal which serves caramelized pork or fish, sweet and sour soup(canh chua) and any appetizer of your choice. It’s also very cheap for a family meal and it could serve up to 4 – 5 people. The service is alright and there’s no people there to seat you. You just walk up to the table and sit down. And if you come here for phở, I suggest you shouldn’t… Most of the soup such as phở, bun rieu, bun bo hue is ok. You can find much better places for that. But if you want a family meal or some really authentic Vietnamese food. You’ve come to the right place. also when you come here you’ll see mostly Vietnamese old men who are drunk most of the times lol

I’m really used to Vietnamese restaurants, but just in case you aren’t, don’t expect good customer service or even a «hi». They seat you, and they bring your food out. Which sometimes, I really appreciate because they waste no time in doing so. Just make sure they acknowledge your presence or you’ll never be served lol. All things aside, this place has been my family’s go-to since I was in the womb! My family looooves the food here, the only thing they don’t appreciate is the crowd that’s usually there. Usually the same crowd you see at your typical coffee shop, lol just without the naked girls. It’s tucked away in a plaza that has a small parking lot but it’s so freakken good, don’t hesitate because the food makes up for it. I usually get the canh chua ca(a sour tamarind soup I think), muc chien don(fried calamari/squid) and the third dish is our ever-changing dish but usually something on the meatier side. Surprised this place hasn’t gotten much attention bc everything is seasoned and flavored just right and you won’t regret it!

An alternative to a Vietnamese drinking bar(quan nhau) with no half naked-to-naked girls with no dramas or dimmed lights and cheaper beers. for $ 3 a beer, you can drink and eat your night away with your friends with without fearing for your life. The food is decent. My favorite would be the nai xa lan(deer in coconut sauce). Its almost as good as when my dad makes it. Services isn’t the best in the world. You would have to be yelling for their attention while sweet talking to them, thats why I leave it for the guys to do it.

Hello Heinekens allover the place. I wasn’t sure where we were going, but it was a million loud vietnamese people doing what they do best… Drink, Eat, and enjoying their friends. I enjoyed the food here. It was good, better than other Vietnamese Restaurants in the hood. The food reminds me of my moms home cooking. Service is near non existent, so do your best to get someones attention. Double check your order and make sure you get the food you ordered. It get’s busy and I can see how the ladies forget to bring you your grub a dub dub.

I’ve been going to this place since I was a wee little one. Be warned, this is not a place for romantic dates or quiet lunches or dinners. Expect loud old Vietnamese men getting drunk and hollering at the waitresses. If you’re not bothered by inappropriateness, then come right on in! Phở Ap Chao — This dish is made of stir fry mixed vegetables, seafood, chicken and beef over deep fried phở noodles. It’s like crispy pan fried chow mein but with fried phở noodles instead. It’s quite delicious! Soup Mang Cua — This is a very well-known Vietnamese soup. It’s made of egg, crab, and white asparagus. Danh’s Garden is one the places that make this soup more flavorful. This is probably my favorite place to get this soup at. Muc Rang Muoi — This is calamari made of squid only, no octopus. It’s very very good here! They have this red/orange crab or shrimp guts thing sprinkled on top and that’s my favorite part. Definitely a place you should try out!
