Fernandez and the Ortiz(Seven Trees and Capitol Epwy) are my go to bakeries. I love the bread here at Fernandez it is very good. Bread is fresh and delicious. The Mexico bakery is a few blocks down but i have never likes their food or bread: Just the tortas. Try the Pan Dulce here if you want non-dry, fresh, tasty almost as good as Mexico’s pan dulce. The cakes are good too. 4 stars because the workers can be a little nicer. And there has been times when they ran out of bread i want later in the evening but what can i expect with yummy bread. Yours truly, Raised on Fernandez Bakery!!!

Fernandez Bakery sells more than just mex pastries menu: tortas, juices, desserts, panaderia, tamales buys: 3 pastries(3.15) –all unpriced, tasted ok, pricier than other places –still semi-fresh 2 days later. crumbs: –area is runned down.

Best pan dulce in San Jose! I’ve been coming to this bakery since I was a child and haven’t had pastries or pan from other bakeries, that come close to theirs.

Tamales were served in the same styrofoam box it was microwaved in. Cheese was hard and gross. Flies were buzzing around in the pastry cases. The person who waited on us was rude, she kept giving the worse stinkeye ever. When it came to ringing us up she didn’t even tell us the total, we had to ask and then she mumbled it in spanish with and attitude. No thank you or good day. Not worth it, need to find some authentic tamales somewhere!

Just a little out-of-the-way bakery next to liquor stores and Mexican jewelry and hair shops. — yet still, there is something to be said about this place. I saw a sign that said that they sold tamales, so I strolled in and was very pleasantly surprised to find that a large portion tamale is just $ 1.50. Two is dinner and you have a choice of chicken, pork or cheese. The staff is friendly and I think they deserve a little attention. If you are short on funds or if you really like home-made tamales, this place is worth a visit if you are in the area. Clean, friendly, inexpensive. Support the locals. These guys have earned it.
