Jake’s of Willow Glen

Checked out this place for the first time few days ago.
Why I liked this place?
1. TVs to watch your favorite sports.
2. Nice beers on tap.
3. Good food with generous portion. Reasonable price.
(I had philly cheese steak and curly fries with a pint of Stella).
I will definitely go back again.

Went to Jakes today to meet up with a couple of friends to watch the football game. As usual Jakes is a busy Pizzeria where friends and families go to have good pizza. Their signatures pizzas are amazing and the sizes are larger than they look on the wall. There are many sandwiches and other appetizers you can order. The selection of beers and wines at this place are also really good. This place is one of the best hangouts to eat good pizza and watch sports games with your friends. Today we ordered a large Gilroy pizza and hot wings with some garlic fries. All of those really hit the spot definitely one of my go-​to for pizza.

I found this place on Unilocal when I was in the area and the second I walked in I felt a dejavous. It looks exactly like the Garret in Campbell and after asking an employee about it they confirmed that they share the same owner. That made me feel at ease knowing I was going to have a great lunch as I frequent the Garret.
I tried a direct comparison to my standard order that the Garret always makes tasty, but they always screw up! Ha! I was stoked when they nailed it. I got a personal pizza with LA Hot Sausage and Mushrooms and it was quite good. For some reason the last two times I ordered that at the Garret I got Italian Sausage instead. Not a big deal, still a tasty pie, but come on, it’s 2 tiny details right? Whatever, the pizza was great and I had a 22oz glass of some Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point and I was a happy camper.
I came back a second time last week with 4 of my coworkers thinking this location was slightly closer to work than the Garret but it was a wash. All 4 of us enjoyed our lunch and guess what? They got all the orders right!
Great food made fresh and hot with a great beer selection makes this place a no brainer, give ‘em a try!

I moved here from the east coast about a year and a half ago. The entire time I’ve lived in the bay area I haven’t been able to find good wings (like those found on the east coast).
Needless to say, Jake’s wings have become my favorite wings in the area by a long shot! I’ve also tried the fried zucchini which was also delicious.
It’s a nice spot to catch some sports, a couple beers, and great bar food. Plus they have a dog friendly outdoor seating area complete with TVs!

Love the pizza. Any of them. And probably one of the only places where a large pizza can feed my whole family.
My wife usually orders the cheese steak which is awesome. Hard to find anything we don’t enjoy on the menu.

Just thinking about the food here makes my mouth water! I love this place! If you want great food, at a good price, consistently, go here. Apparently they are owned by the same folks that own The Garrett.
The pastrami sandwich is to die for. The pizza is amazing. Great fries, and in summer, they make this salad with strawberries that is so so so SO good!!!
Don’t miss this place! It’s awesome.

Great family-​friendly restaurant to watch sports, drink some beers and grub on some pizza, wings or a good ol’ burger! It’s also on the main drag in Willow Glen, which I love.
Fried chicken wings are good, too! Very crispy!

Jake’s is the place to go if you are looking for good food at a very reasonable price! I’m in a bit of a rut, I am hooked on their grilled cheese with the addition of bacon — they give you a choice of cheese, I always go for the cheddar, served with potato chips. Learning self control, I now take half home for another meal.
My husband goes back and forth, one time the tuna melt, the next the jalapeño burger — he loves both! The amount on tuna on the tuna melt is amazing, we suggest having a fork handy.
Even though we rarely have them, the pizza’s are really good. Add in a shared soft drink and we can get out of there for $ 20, a rare thing and very much appreciated!
Additional huge pluses, the staff are super friendly, the bathrooms recently redone, TV’s with the sports game you want to watch strategically placed and a nice new outdoor patio.

Me and my family are never disappointed when have pizza here. Absolutely Satisfying and Full of flavor. My son enjoys the Wings and they mini arcade too.

Any place that has sweet potato fries, onion rings, AND Chicken Philly Cheesestakes are always great in my book. I’ve lived in the Willow Glen area for 10+ years and always passed by until I went for my cousin’s Going/​Moving Away party. They really do have a wide variety of choices on the menu with pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, beers, etc. Pretty great place for large groups, too.
Will definitely be back to try other things off the menu. Seems like a nice neighborhood family pizza joint. :)

Awesome steak sandwiches and the comb pizza is to die for! The beers are super cold. Great place to relax and grab dinner. Cant wait to go back!

I have been here many many times over the last several years and have never been disappointed with the pizza, but there’s always that one time. I don’t know what happened, but the food has changed. I recall the first bite into a hot pepperoni pizza being so comforting and tasty. Not this time. The sauce was bland, there was less cheese and the pizza just lacked flavor. What we used to love about Jake’s was the hefty generous slices of goodness. The wings were over fried and dry. I know it’s a very popular spot, but for the price I will go somewhere else. Too bad, we used to hold this pizza spot as tops in San Jose. Oh well…sometimes a good thing can’t last forever.

Jake’s of Willow Glen is part of the same Restaurant Group as The Garret.
So naturally most of the menu items and recipe items are the same.
Jake’s is a nice place to go watch your favorite sporting event (Football) and have some Craft brew. I had a 21^st amendment watermelon wheat and they serve it with a watermelon slice just like 21^st amendment brew pub in SF. Guess what else it tastes exactly the same!
That’s pretty awesome so if I’m ever craving this particular craft I can just go to Jakes instead of all the way to SF. YeessssssssS!!!11
The pizza is OK, but a fair warning if ordering the Gilroy special it has lots of garlic hence the name Gilroy special. lololol
Bucket O wings is pretty good as well. Nice kick with the sauce.
There is free wifi, just ask the cashier for the pass word.
Come here try it out this place has great atmosphere.

I came with the hopes of really liking Jake’s pizza! Unfortunately, their bland pizza dough and lack of sauce did not suit me well. The crust is also dry. It felt like the pizza was missing something. I did like the amount of cheese and toppings they use though. Like many others, I did notice the quality of the ingredients. I just prefer a better cheese to sauce ratio. Jakes has lots of cheese which I am sure most love and I do too. Only I prefer for there to be a good ratio between cheese and sauce. I also liked that they had blackberry pear cider available at the bar. I also liked their wings! Definitely heed other reviews and order some of dems. My friends all really like Jake’s, hence how I ended up here, but definitely not my go to pizza spot. My hunt continues.
It was also a displeasure standing around while we waited for a table to open. Lots of people just hung out at their tables long after being done eating and drinking. My issue isn’t with people hanging out. My issue is crowds hanging out while there are parties with food with no where to sit. My advice to you is to kindly ask to share the larger table if you notice empty seats. We did this with a large table and were met very kindly with yes’s. This place is not very big so be ready to experience a crowd. Or just order for take out!

I used to live and eat near the Boardwalk in Los Altos which is basically the same family of restaurants. Boardwalk is gone now so while in the area late we went for old times. This one seemed kind of dead though. Got a personal pizza and chicken strips. I used to love the latter but here they were slightly over so the batter was dark, however chicken was not overly dry. Pizza was ok with sauce being sour so i had to correct with some salt. Not sure if it was an end of night thing but these places have usually been consistent so i was a bit surprised being underwhelmed this go around. Seems all the cops around here love it though and showed up right before closing. Oh and some crazy construction started while we were eating closing off the front road outside making us detour around back.

I couldn’t believe it was so difficult to find a good wing place in the south bay. Isn’t the bay area supposed to be the ethnic culinary mecca? You’ve got almost every food demographics covered, except Buffalo Wings, the true American finger-​licking delicacy.
Throughout our protracted and uneventful quest for good wings, we have had more than enough of heartbreaking disappointment: tiny teeny wings, old dried up wings, possibly microwaved before served wings, undercooked to uncooked wings, wings with unrendered under-​the-​skin fat (yuk!!!), wings with hair stubs still on (ewwww!!!), and soggy wings drenched in a puddle of murky sauce.
Despite the continuous let-​downs, we didn’t give up. Eventually, the Unilocal God pointed us to Jake’s — a bit out of the way for us, but good wings do exist here!
I like my wings big, crunchy (twice or triple deep-​fried), and covered in the simple acidic sauce of butter and hot sauce. Jake delivered it, and my husband and I were quite happy. While the wings were a tad too salty for my liking, they were good nonetheless.
Curly fries and sandwiches were good as well. Service was great. Kentucky Derby was playing on TV. But nothing compares to the satisfaction of finding a good wing shop.
P. S. Tap water tastes really funky… But I didn’t pay for it so it was alright.

1÷31÷15: Firstly, I only had pizza here and they have lots of other stuff on their menu like burgers and stuff, so my rating is solely based on their pizza. Basic summary: their pizza has crappy crust but relatively high-​quality ingredients. So, they kinda average out…
This was my friend’s treat for me and other friends, for helping him move for the day, so he paid and I dunno what the price was. Also, they have specific combo names and apparently are very anal about what is called what (the guy on the phone made lots of corrections to my friend’s general descriptions.) So the names given here might not match what is actually on the menu, but are basically what those flavors are normally called:
1. Hawaiian: Very basic. Pineapple and ham. As noted above the crust was very dry and the outside was hard. Basically tasted like what an amateur might make on their first attempt of making pizza at home, from scratch, and didn’t have a proper pizza stone. As another reviewer noted, the crust tastes bland too. Anyway, ingredients aren’t particularly special on this one unlike the others, so below average: ⁴⁄₁₀.
2. Vegetarian: Tons of high quality ingredients on this one! Nice fresh tomato, big chunky artichokes, tons of good mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, tons of olives – basically the whole section of Safeway fresh produce dumped on a pizza. Unfortunately, again, the crust sucked hard. And though there was a whole garden on a pizza, it didn’t taste all that great that way. But sure felt healthy. ⁴⁄₁₀.
3. «Supreme» (that’s definitely not what they called it though): It’s kinda ½ the veggies from the Vegetarian but then mixed with meat. I see ham, peperoni, sausage, and not sure if there’s anything else. Tastier than the vegetarian, but again, the crust kills it, and otherwise it’s kinda standard. ⁵⁄₁₀.
So, … if you come here, don’t get the pizza. But it’s a good place to hang out it seems – lots of seating and space. Just get plenty of beer to laugh over.
I probably wouldn’t come back, but I can see some people enjoying the laid-​back atmosphere. Conflicted here… I really didn’t like the pizza that much, but the ingredients certainly were better than say, Pizza Hut’s (though Pizza Hut’s crust is FAR better, and tastes better overall anyway). But… definitely not as good as Papa John’s… aw heck… guess below average is fair (hopefully their burgers are better)…

Excellent, straightforward pizza. Ask for extra sauce, as the dough is thick and a bit bland, IMO.
Open late which is a HUGE plus in my book.
