My girlfriends and I decided to give this place a try this evening since we were in the mood for burgers but didn’t wanna risk a 5 Guys induced myocardial infarction. And while it’s not the best restaurant in the world, it’s pretty decent and in a great location so we’ll likely be back. So, now for the experience. The food: I ordered the California burger, which was surprisingly delicious. I usually don’t expect much from sports bar type places but the meat was really tasty and the toppings were fresh. It’s definitely a meal I would order again. The service: The service was good — our waiter took good care of us and was especially knowledgeable about the wine selection which is good because I like to drink. A lot. But that’s a different story for a different day. The ambiance: It was a slow night so the place was kinda empty, which is unusual because it’s normally packed when I walk by on my way to Ulta or Starbucks. The décor is a little off — there are some elements I really like but it almost seems unfinished. And the place was a little too quite for a bar and grill. I think some music –even just over the speakers — would have improved the overall experience. One other thing I noticed is the cocktails are a little expensive, which is why my friends and I chose to stick with beer and wine, which are more reasonably priced. Either way, when I left I had a full tummy and a nice Thursday night buzz going so I was happy.

We used to go to $ 2 Tecate/$ 2 for 2 Taco Tuesdays religiously every week. We operate a gym nearby and go here in the evening with our members to hang out and have some beers, usually bringing in crowds of 10 – 15 people every week. We have had mixed experiences with the servers here. One server named Josh was pretty cool. He was always very helpful. However we had one female server who once said, «This is not Burger King. You can’t have it your way.» OK that was quite rude. So anyway our last experience was probably the worst. We came for Taco Tuesday and ordered 100 tacos for our group of 15 people, expecting the tacos to be 2 for $ 2. We received our bill and saw that we were charged $ 2 per taco and the bill came out for $ 200 for 100 tacos! WTF? Those tacos are no where worth $ 2. We would rather go to the taco truck on the corner or Rubios if you want to charge us $ 2 for street tacos. At no point in time were we ever notified that the tacos are now $ 2 each.(We come here every week bringing in a big crowd, mind you.) And for the quality of the food, they have no basis charging that amount. Because of this experience and Sunset’s business practices, Sunset has lost our patronage of our weekly Taco Tuesday group, and of ALL the members of our gym. There are many other restaurants in The Plant Shopping Center who will be more than happy to take business from our gym.

Do not go here! They will disappoint you. You’re better off at Chilis, Boiling Crab, Five Guys, or any other place at The Plant Plaza. I do not recommend this establishment to friends, families, or for corporate events. First of all, I sent a few private event requests on the website and for 3 weeks I didn’t hear from anyone. I finally called and got Jackie telling her no one responded to my requests. She said she’s never seen any. Strike 1!- Their website doesn’t work! I let it go and asked her if she could accommodate a lunch group of 25. She agreed but it took her 2 weeks of going back and forth creating a simplified menu for us. In the end, the menu was extensive. See my photo posting. The day of the event, we arrived 15 minutes early and all sat down. I asked the manager to fire up the appetizers that I pre-ordered. Then the waitress asked my group of attendees if they wanted to order any appetizers. Obviously, the waitress was not in synch with the manager. That’s strike 2! It took 15 minutes for them to get the appetizers out. That was one thing that was done right. In the meantime, we started placing our lunch order and drink order. By this time, we’ve been in our seats for 30 minutes. It took another 30 minutes for a few salads to come out. Strike 3! We had a total of 4 ahi tuna salads but only 2 came out at the beginning. 15 minutes later, one came out. Then some time later, mine came out. In between all this, we had staggered entrees come out, staggered sandwiches, etc. It made no sense at all! One philycheese steak came out at the beginning, the other came out at the end. Same goes for the fajita orders, enchilada orders, etc. All of the same dishes should have been grouped to arrive at the same time. It was so disorganized! Strike 3! I talked to the manager after 20% of the food showing up and he made up excuses, «The group is so large, the kitchen staff is having a hard time keeping up» or some sort. I was very irritated because I gave them 1 month notice that our party of 25 would be arriving. They should have hired more wait staff and back of house staff. Besides our group, they had about 3 tables of couples who showed up during lunch. We were practically the only customers there AND they still did not know how to take care of us. In the end, I pulled Harold(the manager) aside and told him I’m not happy with the standard 18% gratuity because we did not receive such service. He said that service would have been faster if we pre-ordered from the simplified menu. It’s management’s fault not mine. We’re paying customers! Besides, I was mindful of the speed of food delivery so I asked for a simplified menu. I thought this would help the kitchen staff. Strike 4! Our waitress said it was so confusing that she didn’t know who ordered what! What a ditz! She placed our order in clockwise positions in order but couldn’t pass out our dishes! Strike 5! The last platter of linguini was delivered at 12:45PM and they gave my guest a box with it. My guest walked outside and threw it in the trash because he sat for 1.5 hours waiting for his entrée. Food rating: Carne asada nachos — good but not great Calamari appetizer — good but standard. They didn’t have cocktail sauce or lemons though! Vegetarian egg roll — just ok Seared ahi tuna on mixed green salad — good but standard Burger — ordered medium but it came out over done. Shrimp, beef, chicken fajitas — looked good but it took about an hour to come out.

UH, NO! My significant other and I decided to try this place out. They had great ambiance, lots of TV’s and a decent projector(with a kickin’ two-man band outside). Lots of potential! We were even thinking of taking our Sunday football get-together here! Unfortunately, we didn’t even get to try the food. Why? Cause we freakin’ walked out! A server had came to us right as we were sitting down and asked us hastily what we «wanted to drink». I don’t think that was smart business strategy, cause, really, he should’ve just automatically offered us water and let us take a look at the cocktail menu first. After about 5 minutes, he returned with our water and beer. Then, he disappeared and did not return for another 15. During this time, other servers were just standing around. No teamwork? Come on! We were hungry! He then returned to take our order, and apologized, saying that he didn’t know why«no one else helped us». I agree! But, uh, he was our original server? Shouldn’t we have been his priority? After about 20 minutes, he returned to ask what sides we wanted with our dishes. Honestly, at this point, I’m sure he forgot to put our order in, because that would’ve been entered originally. We gave it another 15 minutes. Still, no food had come out. At this point, I got up and told the hostess that we were just going to pay for our beers and leave. The server runs out of the kitchen sweating bullets and said that he was«still waiting for our food». What he should’ve done was check in with us while we were waiting. We’re understanding people! Unfortunately, the service was completely unacceptable. Mind you, we ordered a BLT sandwich and a chili burger. I’m afraid to even know what the food would’ve tasted like. SUMMARY: We waited about 40 minutes for our order, and it never came out. No follow up or update was given. And, there were 2 servers, 2 bartenders, 1 hostess, 1 manager(on his cellphone!!) and ONLY4 occupied tables. I get it. The place is new. BUT, since this place is new, they should work even harder to have better service. Sorry, never again. I’d skip this place if I were you. Maybe they’ll shut down and we’ll get a better(non-chain) bar & grill in the future.

AVOIDLIKETHEPLAGUE… EATATYOUROWNRISK! Would give negative stars if possible. Spoiled shrimp and THEYKNEWABOUT! + wilted lettuce, greasy sandwiches, bad meat quality… From the minute we walked in, we should have known something must have been off. But we were drawn in by the decent live band, outdoor seating, open bar and beautiful day. Plus, my wife and I have been dying to find a local place with a great atmosphere, live music and good food. Well the unfortunately this place was closer to the dying than anything else. First let me say, always trust your instinct. When every restaurant in a 50 foot vicinity has a 30−60+ minute weight, including Chevy’s and Apple Bee’s, except this one, leave immediately. Next, when you specialize in nothing, but offer everything. Well, it’s a sign int the wrong direction. on to the bad food. I ordered a shrimp louie salad, which the shrimp not only smelt old and fishy, but were discolored, slimy and not even cleaned properly. The veins were hanging half way out, ends looked like they went through the garbage disposal, etc. ALLBAD! After eating very little and leaving shrimp on the plate, the waiter asks if there was something wrong because I was now the 2nd or 3rd person who hadn’t touched the shrimp. It was obviously clear, but explained to him any ways. Let’s just say I was still forced to pay $ 15 for almost getting food poison. Unless you want to be on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey, then I highly recommend staying away. Obviously they do not care, otherwise the kitchen would never have let that shrimp leave the kitchen the first time. Forget the second or third. Honestly you could make someone seriously ill or worse…

Update 9÷1÷11: OK, sadly to say that my 2 star will stand… There was little things that kind of irritated/disappointed me. First thing was I didn’t have my napkin wrapped in utensils so when I got my «alcohol» beverage I didn’t have anything to wipe my hands with after squeezing my orange into my beer, so I had to sit there for awhile with sticky hands(I may sound like a brat but let me see you try wipping your sticky hands in your cute outfit!). Secondly, I was feeling Asian and wanted to try one of their«featured» items and decided to give the«Pork and Shrimp Fried Rice» and let me tell you that it was wayy too spicy for my taste! It was just like the Jambalaya that I had in Roux Louisiana Kitchen! This was a major FAIL, cause not only did I not enjoy my meal but everything just seemed over priced for it’s value. For example, their Long Island Ice Tea was $ 10?! Not even the clubs charge that much and your suppose to be ripping of drunks not sobers? Kudos: I do have to give them lots of credit for having a pretty entertaining band because without them I would’ve been pulling my hair at this point… They played every genre of songs that the singer was able to adapt to every style, pretty cool if you ask me! Their were Don Juio Girls that were giving away samples that was refreshing to wash down all my sorrows with this place. Our waiter that night was on point besides the beginning(maybe she was in the back somewhere) but other then that one slip up it was smooth sailing from there! I’m not sure if I’ll ever come here for the food again but having a few drinks won’t hurt. Oh, I also want to mention there wasn’t a «dance floor» that night? I wondered if it was only certain night that they book their«MP3DJ» or just realized like me that found it odd and out of place?! Check out my photos I posted!

Went there for a friend’s bday party free of charge before 10pm and also because it was reserved, but then had to pay cover around 11pm because it was the same nite there was a live band playing that night. But, it wasn’t a band for the first hour! All we heard was some poor low-life cuss and b**** about Asians, women, kids and drug addicts. Really? Drink prices are a lil over the top if you didn’t know the bartenders… kinda like Vegas, lol! Can’t really say much about the food since I only drank that night. Oh, and to top it off… they had to close early because a fight broke out… yay.

My gf and I went to the Sunset Bar and Grill for a week day lunch. I ordered the spicy spaghetti and meatballs and she ordered the Chicken Club Sandwich with a side of fruit salad. Not too many people eating here at the time so we got excellent service. Another plus was that they had plenty of tv’s showing pro football.(pre-season but anytime you can watch pro football on a high def tv is great). One of the co-owners was there who was friendly and helpful. My gf liked her half of the Chicken Club(we share) which was pretty good since instead of bacon they use prosciutto.(good touch). My spaghetti was very good, even better than some Italian places I go to.(of course I usually don’t order spaghetti and meatballs at Italian restaurants but that’s beside the point) I don’t know how this place is at night or the weekend but I would come back for lunch. For the most part prices weren’t too expensive for lunch.(about $ 7.99 per entrée on the Lunch Specials menu)

From the time we got in there, we could sense the attitude. Seriously? In the middle of the Plant Shopping Center, next to Ross Dress For Less and Radio Shack, YOU’RE giving ME attitude? Both bartenders were extremely rude, especially the older man, and acted as if they were doing me some kind of favor by pouring me a beer. Next: the food. Think Costco’s frozen food section, paired with a deep fryer. Not a fan. As others have mentioned, their menu offerings have an uncomfortable variety, none of which seemed particularly intriguing. The kicker is: the owner came out and was even more arrogant and obnoxious than his staff! I’m really not going to take crap from somebody like this, especially at some wannabe hot spot next to the fairgrounds, so I called him on it. I said, «See? This is why you’re getting such negative reviews on Unilocal!» He replied with nothing but defensiveness, saying«OHGODDON’T TALKTOMEABOUT Unilocal! THOSEPEOPLEAREASSHOLES, THEYJUSTPISSMEOFF!» And you’re the owner? Seriously?! Huh. Are you really a bad human being or just a bad businessman? So I guess this place will never change — we can provide as much feedback as we want, but their management will never listen to their customers’ feedback. They should make a «People hate us on Unilocal!» sticker especially for the Sunset Bar and Grill. Spend your time elsewhere and make sure that this place drowns in its own arrogance.

This place is nice, kinda weird lay out but the hostess is always nice and smiling! I tend to go on Tuesdays, aka Taco Tuesday 2 tacos for 2 dollars heck yes! They have a lunch special menu every things $ 7.99 and almost everything is a good deal, burritos are good, the pizza on the appetizer menu is cheap and really good. I always have good service.

On a Sunday afternoon, with no more than 25 people in this enormous space, the music was deafening. Everyone in the place had to shout to be heard by their companions. I asked the woman up front if she could have one of the 4(!) deejays adjust the sound, but she just said«yes, I don’t know why they do that» and went back to her iPhone. I’m not spending $ 5 a pint again to have my eardrums assaulted, thanks. You run a bar, not a discothèque — respect your customers and turn down the volume.

The restaurant looks promising. We were seated immediately. Our waitress came by to get our drink order. After 5 minutes she came back to tell us they don’t serve mojitos so I said that was fine. She gave my boyfriend a water and I still did not have a drink. There weren’t very many customers. After about 15 minutes she came back to get our lunch order. 20 minutes go by and no food. 10 more minutes and she comes back to tell us she is sorry for the wait and offers us a free round of shots. I don’t think we will ever come back here. The drinks were good but the food is mediocre. Waitresses need more training.

Save your money and take it elsewhere. Had dinner this evening, less than satisfactory. Should have known when we were the only family in the place on a Saturday 7pm. Every other place in the Plant was packed. The menu is clearly a hodgepodge of food service company offerings, no clear cuisine style or specialty offering. Calamari was rubbery, dry. My chicken burrito(no sides either) was cold and rather bland, my wife’s fish tacos were bland as well. Kids grill cheese was cheese on sourdough minus the grill. Sports bar maybe, restaurant no. Tried to be open minded about something that was memorable, but not happening. Kind makes you wonder why someone would embark on such an undertaking without putting pride or thought into their restaurant.

If your looking for a great Sports Bar with AWESOME food… You must stop by for dinner and listen to there Live Bands and DJ’s on the weekend. New Owners have really stepped up and enhanced the appearance with 8PLASMA’s and a HUGE projector screen to watch all Sport Games. I had their Rib Eye Steak dish and let me tell you… It was the best Steak I’ve ever had. Definitely bets Original J’s food. And I love OJ but, The Sunset is the place to go. Great hangout for cocktails with friends. Hang out in their patio. See you there!

I would give it 0 Stars if allowed! Honestly I can’t review the food or drinks because I was discriminated against and refused service. I am in an all women’s Motorcycle club, and yes we wear Vests with our patch on the back. One of our members was out running errands one day and stopped in for Happy Hour. She called me from there and asked if I had ever had any trouble going to any other restaraunt at The Plant shopping senter with my Cut on. I told her«No» which is true, I have visited them all and never had a problem. She said the owner of Sunset was curious, and I asked her«Why is it a problem there?» At that time the owner responded No. Wow how things can change… Two weeks later I was out riding with 2 Club sisters and a Guest, it was just after dinner time and we were hungry. So I reccomend we go try the new place at The Plant, Sunset Bar & Grill. We arrived and asked the hostess for a table for 4. She asked if a High Top was o.k. and we said yes, but when she tried to seat us at one 2 feet from the band we declined. She said we would have to wait if we wanted a regular table because there weren’t any availible. That seemed odd, since I could see several empty tables. Anyway we asked if the Outside Pation was open for seating, and she said Absolutely. So we were seated on the patio. We were the only people on the Patio. Finally we are settled in, discussing our drink/food options and this douche bag waiter comes running out to the patio and tells us «If you want service you will have to take off your Vest» We decline and go spend our money elsewhere. That was your loss Sunset, knowing the way we can eat and drink you just kicked a good amount of money out of your pocket. After reading the other reviews it seems We dodged a bullet on that one, because it isn’t any good anyway. MOTORCYCLECLUBSARENOTSTREETGANGS! I will be sure and share this with every writer, radio, t.v., motorcycle rider, and face booker I know!!! DONOTSPENDYOURMONEYATTHESUNSETBAR&GRILLONCURTNER!!! THEYDISCIRMINATE!!!

I went to meet some friends for ‘Happy Hour’ at this location. Was a bit taken aback as their patio seating on a gorgeous bay area day was empty with exception of my friends and one other couple. So throughout the course of ‘Happy Hour’, we seemed to have multiple servers as the guys would call whomever was walking by the door to take the next order. At one point they called upon the manager whom did not seem pleased and ushered another server from a table to tend to us. Jokingly I ribbed my buddy, «Who did you tick off here?» The lounge area is comfy enough with some live entertainment which that day was two young men singing Alice tunes with an equally aged crowd. Not sure what the dining area looks like but due to lack of consistency of the servers for mere cocktails, was not going there on ordering some food. Final final, some others walked in and were greeting promptly., seated in patio area. They had wine immediately as well their dog was brought a fresh bowl of water within moments of sitting down. hmmm

Came to try Sunset on a weekday to-go order. From the posted lunch special menu, I got the prime beef burger. I’m not sure how prime the meat was but it was pretty tasty and it came with fries for $ 8. While waiting, I chatted with the friendly hostess who kept me company while waiting for my food. While we chatted I learned a couple of things: The décor is very new with dark wooden tables and chairs in the bar and dining room area with TV’s strewn about all across the room. They’ve been open about four weeks, they have live music on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sunday nights. They have 3−7pm weekday happy hour and a surprising bonus weekend happy hour from 1−4pm. $ 4 bar food starters and $ 3 well drinks and beer. Kind of funny that they don’t have a website as of yet but hopefully they can get that posted soon. Their menu has a variety of cuisines ranging from tacos to burgers and sandwiches to satay. I was starting to think that they had a Chili’s Bar and Grill type of vibe but not even Chili’s serves up pizza and satay… I’m happy that they took the place of the crappy AYCE international cuisine that was there before. However, by my last count, the competition for customers around them has gotten fierce with Straw Hat Pizza and Boiling Crab joining the fray recently. Probably will be back for a weekend late lunch happy hour!

Restaurant FAIL. It baffles me how some restaurant owners take all the time and money to set up a restaurant and then fail to make sure their vision follows through. This is exactly what I sensed about Sunset Bar and Grill. It had some good potential going in – the live band was playing, the host/waitress were friendly. Menu looked standard, but promising. However, any hope I had about this place went away with enormously long wait times in between ordering drinks, getting drinks, getting appetizers, then entrees, then getting the bill, then paying for the bill. Yes – replace a comma with a 15+ minute wait and you have your Sunset Bar and Grill experience. We had the crab enchilada and fish tacos, folks… for the amount of money they charge for these dishes you’d be better off going to Chevy’s across the street for your crab enchilada since it comes with rice/beans/side sauces for the same price! and your fish tacos at Rubios which actually come with more fish/creamy sauce/beans and chips for 2 bucks less. Utterly disappointing…*shakes head*

This is a brand new place in the Plant shopping center. I’ve been waiting for them to add the business to Unilocal so I can finally review them. Today was the second time we went there. First time was a weekday lunch and tonight dinner. Their food is fantastic! The lunch menu is great, every entrée is around $ 8 and the selection is great. Tonight we got their ‘make your own pizza’ from the kids menu for our 2 years old — she had a blast! The giant prawns are highly recommended, unless you are on a first date… very garlicy — not that there’s anything wrong with that! They have a great atmosphere of almost a beach kind of restaurant. Happy hour rocks! $ 3 all draft beer and well mixed drinks, and $ 4 appetizers. Also live music is playing a few nights a week(not sure what the schedule is).
