Had a family dinner night here. Food was fresh and hot and yummy. We will be back except we will probably order take out. a little cramped in there for me.

I asked for the Mexicana hoagie with pepper and more jalapeños lettuce, tomato and cheese. It was so good and the curly fries also. Its a little bit more for substituting the fries. It was delicious and filling. Order ahead if you are in rush. I loved it!!!

Don’t have much to say but great steak sandwiches. I got the Deluxe steak. Nice owners as well.

Really bomb cheesesteaks, friendly service and the price was right. Still doesn’t beat homemade but I’ll keep grabbing a Hoagy Steak every now and again when I’m not trying to light own grill.

Really disappointing food. How can this place get 4 stars? The cheese steaks are barely eatable(avoid pepperoni pizza cheese steak…) and the burgers are even worst. Hoping for not getting sick now.

I’d rate it at 2.5 stars but since I have to round up or down I’ll go up. This was disappointing though. As a regular Jersey Joes customer who moved to this side of the bay, I had high hopes for this place based on 4 stars-211 reviews, and I got a nothing sandwich. Plain, borderline skimpy, just nothing to it at all. Reading the takeout menu when I got home, I realized you can get grilled onions, but I didn’t know it at the time because I was never asked. At Jersey Joes they ask if you want onions, hot peppers, sweet peppers and you get a huge delicious sandwich. All they have here is regular bell peppers. Disappointing and not worth 4 stars.

What a rip off, 4 stars for what, a ton of warm rice &6 small slices of blan chicken strips, unsanitary people, they are violating health codes by not believing the use of any gloves, handling money & food & not correctly washing your hands is unacceptable enough for me to post up a review & never return.(enjoy)

Love this place! The teriyaki hoagie is the best I have ever had. Lucky to have this place in San Leandro. I wish it were open on Sundays, I always seem to crave a teriyaki hoagie on Sundays :)

Best cheesesteak around. Grace is a friendly and welcoming face of the business. The meats are juicy, the cheese is gooey and the bread is delicious. Every visit is a reminder of why they’re the #1 cheesesteak around.

Love this spot it’s family owned so the people really care about their customers. It’s clean, has great parking, is good for small groups four or less and the food is delicious! I love that they cook it right in front so you can see your food being made.

When I come here I usually get the cheesesteak sandwich with chicken. I’ve never eaten inside I always take out, calling a head of course. But you can sit and eat if you want. The sandwiches here are good. And they come with fries. I’ve eaten the food here about 4 – 5 times. Parking is pretty good. It’s next to a neighborhood and near city hall.

Pretty good. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but I can’t say the same about the portion sizes. I got a cheesesteak w/mushrooms and it was giant!

I love supporting mom and pop shops so I’m happy to see the same couple running this place and to see that they have put in effort to upgrade the place a bit with their tables, chairs, menus, floors, and even a logo! Even better to see that the food tastes exactly as I remember. I took my brother here for his first time. He said… «Should I get a burger?» o_O I wanted to smack him upside the head. Lol. ummm… this is a hoagy place. Get a freakin’ hoagy! He’s been back every week since without me. Lol.

Sometimes you just get cravings for delicious, greasy, belly-stuffing food. Boyfriend and I turned to Hoagy one night when we were both feeling it, but didn’t want to go to the over-abused Cheese Steak Shop in Castro Valley. So, instead, we looked up a place closer to home. Hoagy is a little hole-in-the-wall shop on East 14th. A tad shady, but not so bad that I would be uncomfortable coming alone in the evenings. It’s tiny though, so you may not have enough room to wait inside after placing your order. The food is pretty decent, but I wouldn’t say the quality is better than Cheese Steak Shop. It’s still good, and since it’s closer to home, I’d probably go here first and support a local mom and pop before I go to a franchise, but I wouldn’t rave about it to friends. If you’re in the mood for a greasy, filling sandwich — come to Hoagy!

I love this place! First of all, the fries are great in my opinion. Too bad I have a small tummy, or I would not allow the fries to get soggy! Ooh I know! I’ll eat the fries first and then eat the hoagie later! Second, the buns are crunchy and have this really yummy flavor. Is it mayo? Third, the steaks are always cooked to perfection! I’ve never tried the other meat, chicken I think? But I’m sure that’s great too. Fourth, they have all of your favorite sauce there on the table! What more could you ask for?! Fifth, very friendly boss and boss lady. They just look so nice and laid back. Sixth, food is well worth the price you pay. I only come here when I want hoagie sandwiches!

«I didn’t tell the people who run the place that I love them before I left.» That was the thought that popped into my head, unbidden, when I took the very first bite of the teriyaki cheese-steak that I’d gotten about five minutes earlier from Hoagy Steaks. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not a regular. I don’t have a particularly close relationship with the owner. Heck, I only discovered the place since my wife got a job in the area. But, that sandwich. My god, it was good. So good that, I kid you not, as soon as I tasted it, I thought that I’d been somehow remiss in not letting the people that run the place know just how life-enriching their food is. Luckily, Unilocal exists for that purpose. Go here. Get a conventional cheese-steak, if that’s the itch you want to scratch; but if you want a treat, a real treat, get a teriyaki cheese-steak immediately.

Ask the owner to make your hoagie look just like the picture and watch them deliver! Just make certain if you have never been there before you order in person and get what you want. Phone orders can somehow be confusing if you never ordered here before!

Mom and pop shop that’s fuzzy and warm Kinda like soul food without the cream of corn The hoagies are solid and it’s definitely filling Add some cheese on those fries and you’ll be singing The place is greasy, but don’t let that deter Food is satisfying, the fat kid inside you will concur But if I were in San Leandro and needed to fill my tummy I’d go here, they remind me of my dad and mommy The couple here are really sweet people. They actually do remind me of my folks. Their hoagies are tasty, bread is soft, the the meat inside is straight up simple yet tasty. Had the special hoagie with mushrooms, provolone and peppers, and that was really good. Had fries with cheese… and yeah, gonna get a heart attack, but it was really really tasty.

The best cheese steak in the area. I tried the Mexican with curly fries($ 7.65 plus up charge for curly fries). It was a beast of a sandwich. Lots of meat topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato and chilies. Only grip is the French roll was soggy by the time I got home to chow down. Next time I will dine in(there are a few tables) or find somewhere nearby to eat. Fries were frozen, fried to order. Female owner took our order and payment while her husband? got to cooking. Food took 10 minutes. Area is sketchy even with it being a block from the police station. Street parking available. They accept credit card. Wish they were open Sundays.
