Decided to try this place out, worst mistake we’ve made. Food was mediocre and bland at best. Had to write this review because all I ate today was their food and we both got sick in our stomachs. Wouldn’t feed this to my dogs, never again –service was okay though

Excellent quick and easy Chinese food. Super friendly service. And last but not least so many vegetarian options! Fried rice, chow fun, other noodle dish, egg rolls, Ma Po tofu, mixed veggies are all veggie!

Was hoping to find some good Chinese food nearby since I work at Bayfair & I found it! The rice with shrimp is my absolute favorite. They’re affordable & delicious. I even got my sister hooked on this place. I always come here when I can. Highly recommend this little place to anyone looking for some great food at an amazing price! The staff is also really nice too :)

They need to update their hours. They don’t close at 1030. they close at 8. I went there thinking they were still open, but once I got there, they were closed. Smh.

absolutely disgusting. I watched her serve me the bottom of the trays for the Hunan chicken and sweet and sour wish I could tell were hard as rocks and still serve it so when I went to eat it and my son he could barely chew it. They were like rocks so I asked for more and they gave me half a scoop as opposed to a whole scoop to replace the disgusting food . the pancit noodles were gross the broccoli from the broccoli beef was really good and the vegetables were pretty good but everything else was disgusting and full of grease and salt

Not bad for a small place that’s basically a to go shop. Big portions, decent, better than Panda and quick, of course. Just be forewarned, this can be ghetto central at times. The fact that they take EBT cards is prominently displayed. 50 cents surcharge for debit and cards, if you buy under $ 20. The first time I went, some hood rat tried to negotiate the cost of his meal, despite the fact that he had money to spare. They just nickel and dime you to death. I feel bad for the proprietors, but it’s the clientele. Potstickers were good, dough soft, and lots of stuffing. The shirimp fried rice had small shrimps, but plentiful. And also had a good amount of egg. One reviewer also mentioned the pork buns. They are indeed good, soft dough, nicely fluted, but filling was just ok. Still good. That’s why I say, for a small, steamed table place, not bad.

Think before you spend your hard earned money at this establishment or any like it. I know that Chinese fast food is filled with the typical outrageous amounts of salt and grease. That’s why I came in with the intention of grabbing a Chinese chicken salad while on break from school. I asked is they carried such a salad, and both of the Asian attendants were rude and dismissive of my question, I repeated my question 2 more times while they mumbled to each other in chinese and made no eye contact with me, the only paying customer in the facility. I considered purchasing a soup item, but after looking at their irritated body language and eye rolling again I decided to take my hunger and money elsewhere. There can’t be an item on that menu that will convince me to return and support them with my money. They have no respect for their customers, and clearly could care less if you have a good dining experience or not. I won’t be back, and I will encourage everyone that I know to avoid them as well. Peace and Blessings to all

highly upset that i came here. the lady which was the owner was sooo rude to me. she got mad & gave me dirty looks for asking to try the sweet & sour chicken… all she had to say was no but instead she rolled her eyes & smacked her lips at me. as a consumer, customer service is #1. & for 2, not 2 play the race card but the lady was extremely racist, and im not here to judge coz im asian myself but a black couple came in after me & she(the owner) was even more rude to them. its sad. tell u the truth i wish i can give no stars to with this review because her services just really ruined my day & besides that… the food was a disaster! i was extremely heated with the fact that my vegetable fried rice tasted like fish as if i feel like they cooked everything in the same wok. its horrible!!!

I have been coming to the Hong Kong Express for years now and have never did a review I had ordered my food Orange Chicken and the House Fried Rice and was waiting and looked them up on Unilocal and I was suprised at their rating their food is the best Chinese food in the Bay Area and the ladies behind the counter are friendly, I hope this review helps there rating, Great food at low prices.

I was looking for a dim sum place but somehow ended up here at this hole in the wall chinese steamtable joint. Huge Portions, Dirt Cheap, and plethora of food items to choose from. 3-item combo is $ 5.50. Heavy Hitter — It smacks you into a food coma once your brain catches up. I like this place so much, I drive all the way from castro valley to get it. I love Panda Express, but the Castro Valley one doesn’t give big portions. Hong Kong Express does! woop woop!

Small and Average My wife and I bought lunch here yesterday. I had wanted to go here for months. This place is a real hole in the wall(my wife was surprised too). The seating capacity is only 8(6 inside). A woman with 2 kids was in the way(more specifically, the stroller was). I felt cramped the whole time(it also had to do with the customers around us). There are 2 tables outside, but there are only 2 chairs. o_O I briefly felt like eating while standing(the other table was occupied). We searched the area for somewhere to sit(the table in front of the Vietnamese restaurant was vacant, but we would have felt awkward sitting there). I’m glad, though, that we ended up eating at home. Business Hours?: It’s confusing what the hours are(I feel bad about it, but I reported the wrong ones to Unilocal). Like the number of women who try to kill me in a given month, they seem to fluctuate. The hours listed online aren’t accurate, but the employee that I talked to on the phone today shed some light on things. Anyway, as far as I know, these are the hours: Sun 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Mon-Sat 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. (The take home menus at the counter were rubber-banded. Still, I should have taken one.) The menu is old, but easy to read. The prices here have gone up markedly in recent years. Still, they’re quite good(based on the size of the trays, only the catering prices seem a bit high to me). Combo B «Chow Mein or Fried Rice Plus Choice of 2 Entrée»: $ 4.58($ 5 with tax). Our total was $ 12.01. With tax, can drinks are $ 1 each. (The fridge in the back features a nice assortment of drinks.) The food labels aren’t aligned well. A few also seem to be missing. In short, what you’re looking at can be a little confusing(I came close to asking for Sweet and Sour Chicken instead of Sweet and Sour Pork). There could be a wider selection of food. There are 20 main steam table items. I like BBQ pork and spareribs with black bean sauce, but the latter isn’t sold here(there were dry ribs only). BBQ pork is, but you may have to wait for it. The egg rolls and sesame seed buns are very small(maybe they’re meant to be eaten by midgets). There are 2 types of fried rice: Shrimp Fried Rice and Vegetable Fried Rice. I wish pork fried rice was offered. We didn’t get any, but the Chicken Chow Mein looks good. Our server was quick. She was also nice and thorough(she basically asked me how much sauce I wanted on my Teriyaki Chicken). The cashier was friendly too. The straws were kind of hidden. The cashier pointed them out and laughed(when I looked for them, I felt like Stevie Wonder grasping for a boob). You can help yourself to some small containers of hot sauce(the hot sauce is truly hot– my mouth was burning from it, and my pet dragon was impressed by the fireball I blew). This is truly an «Express» establishment. We were in and out within 3 minutes. The parking lot could be bigger, but you can easily park by Lucky if you have to(it’s a short walk). We received good servings of fried rice, and solid servings of our entrees. : Kung Pao Chicken: 7⁄10. My wife found her chicken to be too spicy, but she really liked the carrots that came with it. Sweet and Sour Chicken: 8⁄10. My wife described it as being«good.» Vegetable Fried Rice: 7.75÷10. Mine was cooked well. It was also quite fresh. It wasn’t great, though, in terms of taste. My wife told me before I ate mine that it was going to be «different»(our 2 favorite Chinese restaurants are in no danger of losing our business). Anyway, I added some soy sauce to my rice to flavor it up. : Teriyaki Chicken: 8.25÷10. I’ve had better, but my pieces were tasty and meaty, and it was fun dipping some of them in my hot sauce. Sweet and Sour Pork: 7.5÷10. Fairly fatty and forgettable. It’s not bad, but there’s nothing to rave about. My food was pretty good overall, but not terribly filling(later on I had a tamale that my mommy made me). There’s a Chinese buffet a few doors down. My wife ate there years ago and found the food to be good. Anyway, we’ll probably go there instead of here in the future. This is a good place to go, though, if you’re in a hurry or short on money.

This is my go-to place for cheap Chinese in San Leandro. The food is good — way better than you have any right to expect for $ 3 a combo — and plentiful. Favorites are their pancit, the super crispy egg rolls, the fish(which they don’t have all the time, but they gave free once bc it was closing time, so I look for every time), the dry-fried salt & pepper pork ribs, and hunan chicken. Good steamed pork buns, too. I can’t say enough good about the pancit. Really, really good. I get it every time. Only quibble with this place is that they close early, so it’s not a great late night option.

located right across from the mall and really close to the fairmont hospital. first instinct was try the vietnamese place but that was closed so settled for here. big mistake. i wish i walked a few more steps to see the togos. but thats what happens when you are crunched on time. chinese fast food so figures its cash only. but prices aren’t bad. 5 bucks for two items. the price was the best part of the meal. everything else just went down hill. the chow mein was soft and salty as hell! 100000000kg of msg? i think thats underestimated it. hunan chicken supposed to be spicy. tasted like soggy chicken teriyaki wrapped in a ball. also very salty. mushroom chicken mushy and guess what… SALTY! i finished the plate because i was starving. but afterwards i finished 1948932428349274849280 gallons of water and was still thirsty. never again. id pay double for panda express. at least i know its not that salty.

Been there a few times, good food, reasonable prices, wish they were a little bigger so one could dine-in.

My first experience here went well and I’d definitely be willing to come back and try it again some time. It’s a very small place, so it’s better suited for takeout rather than dine-in. The couple running it seemed nice enough, and the food looked good, which is not always the case at these types of takeout Chinese places. You really can’t beat the price, so I’m not expecting gourmet food. One item plus rice is $ 4 even. And they give a decent amount. I’ve tried other places in the area that are most expensive but don’t have the selection or quality of Hong Kong Express. All in all, not fantastic, but certainly good enough for what they charge.

This place looked like the typical fast food Chinese place. Not sure why but this area serve really cheap Chinese food. 2– item combo cost less than 4 bucks! That’s cheaper than food in the mid 90s! OMG. The service size is fairly big too they’re not skimpy. The food inself is not bad. Not amazing but seriously you’re expecting amazing for $ 4!!! Will come back again when I don’t feel like cooking… cause this is cheaper than cooking… Food: 3 Service: 4 Environment: 3 Price: 5

Every item is $ 1.35. There’s 30 items in the steam table. The owners are nice. They smile. That alone is above average for typical mainland sour puss China immigrants. But alas, even though mama will dish out a generous portion of rice and then two orders of typical cantonese cheap crap into the styrofoam tray, it ain’t very delicious. I was HUNGRY when I arrived. I ate it all. I spent $ 4.75. But, I’ll never return. Hong Kong Express is better than Jack-in-the-box. But then, anything is better than Jack-in-the-Box, Even going hungry.
