Mike And The Movers

Never got to the moving stage, just the estimate. Late 15 minutes without a call. Wouldn’t mind it if I didn’t work grave and count every moment between shifts.
That said, George arrived in a hurry. Walked through and promptly sat down. Mind you, 730 sf, no appliances, all packing done ourselves. Also informed him we’d be moving the majority of the boxes ourselves sans books.
Right off the bat, he suggested 3 men. Because someone would obviously need a third man to keep watch on the truck during the move, we’re in East Oakland after all). Which is bogus, my neighborhood is safer than North Oakland these days.
So, now we’reup to $ 150/​hr. He then informed me it would take at least 1.5 hours (during non-​traffic time) to get to our destination in Antioch.
Bringing the cost to $ 900.00+ Are you kidding me? When I politely told him this is entirely too much, he packed his things and informed me that I should get additional quotes.
Well, yes. Thanks. I will no doubt take him up on his suggestion.

I was moving to another 1 bedroom unit in the same apartment complex. My family would typically help each other when moving, as there’s a lot of us. This time, I only got 3 volunteers. So I looked into moving companies to get help with the heavy lifting. After looking at reviews and calling a few places, I took a chance at Mike And The Movers (MATM). Mike was friendly and straightforward over the phone. So off I went to schedule an appointment.
On the big move day, the big CONS:
1) The movers were late
2) Dealing with paperwork was included in the 2 hour minimum (that’s 15 min. that could have been spent moving!)
3) Expensive wood furniture got damaged
– Was the price reasonable?
I suppose. I’ve never employed movers before. In the past I’ve used U-​Haul and family helpers. The overall price would have been comparable to renting U-​Haul and equipment, and then getting movers through them. I figured since MATM would bring everything needed, i.e. truck, dolly, furniture pads, even box hangers for clothes, I would rather just go through one company instead of U-​Haul + MovingPartner.
– Were the movers on-​time?
No. I was told to expect them between 9 – 9:30 AM. The 2 guys showed up at 9:45 AM. Reason? They said they didn’t have my phone number. I explicitly mentioned that there is a gate and they would need to call me so I can let them into the apt. complex.
– Were they professional?
The lead mover was. The other guy was his younger brother, who seemed kind of lost without his big brother telling him what to do. He didn’t seem to know how to deal with a customer, so would defer to his big bro.
– Were they careful?
The lead mover was, but his younger brother messed up big time. You see, four months ago I finally decided to invest in some really elegant and long lasting furniture, which included a chest drawer… that got damaged!
Things were going so well at first, so I thought it would be fine the rest of the way… until they moved the 60“x40“x19″ drawer. The side got HORRIBLY SCRATCHED. The paint peeled off because they were so DEEP! I’m talking about multiple scratches that were up to 8 INCHES LONG!
Why the younger bro decided not to use the furniture pads they brought is beyond me. I was too busy and don’t like to micromanage since they said they’ve «been doing this for at least 10 years». I am usually a very calm, patient and understanding person, but I have to say I got SO upset, I felt like steam was coming out of my ears! It’s the first time I ever bought quality furniture, which cost thousands and were fairly brand new! I would not have shed a tear over my older furniture and I was mostly concerned with the expensive wood furniture, and that chest drawer was the first one they moved from the set. They were more careful after that. Still…
– So what happened next?
The lead mover said I could file a claim for the scratched drawer, that they can send somebody to fix it for me. So I called the office. They said they would email me the claim form, but days later I still have not received it!
To be fair, I’m glad they there for the heavily lifting, and they were nice, but I’m still NOT happy with the damage and the fact that it’s taking so long for them to do anything about it. Luckily it’s just with that one (as far as I know at this point since I still have more to unpack and get through.)

I had booked another company for my move, but the day before when I called to confirm they told me that one of their trucks broke down and won’t be able to move me. Of course I had to find another mover ASAP. I was so lucky to have found this company. They had an availability and the rate was reasonable. My move was from Fremont to San Francisco earlier in October. Very professional, friendly, funny and fast guys! Good job, I definitely recommend them and will use them again in the future! Thank you to my three moves too bad I forgot their names :(

Moved households after five years, found these guys on Unilocal.They were fast, friendly, professional, did a great job protecting the furniture, worked hard to get it loaded and delivered. I could not have done it without them.

We have had a small move across the Bay. Started at 10 am and done by 12:30 pm, even the elevator of the building where we moved from is not working! Both Mike and Dirk are courteous and professional.

Awesome movers! They were so quick with moving, but very careful too. We had two flights of stairs and a lot of heavy things, yet they kept working the whole time and barely took a second to take a break. I called only a few days before we had to move and they were out here right on time, ready to help us move. Such a great experience!

The response and followup from Mike and their team was very good and the people were really nice. But the people who moved looked pretty tired and dull. One of the person took very longer breaks in between compared to the other and it costed more because of the time take. I agree it has to be shifted from third floor. There have been minor chirps in our wood furniture while movement and could have been more skillful with their work. I don’t want to be a complainer but could have been better.

Had a move and the company I scheduled informed me the morning before the move they could not come because of an emergency. I had less than 24 hours to schedule the move with another moving company. I was in a real bind.
Mike and the Movers was recommend by a friend so I called them up. I told Mike I was in a pinch and if he can schedule something with this little notice for the next day. He said his schedule was booked but he’ll try to see what he can do and give me a call back. Literally 5 minutes later, he called back saying he did some re-​arranging of his schedule and found 2 movers out near my area to do the move the next day! He went out of his way to make this happen! Now that is what you call excellent Customer Service!
Moving day — Movers were supposed to come at 8am and they were there on spot 8am (actually I think they came earlier). Movers were complete professionals. No talking, no joking around, No-​Nonsense. They got in, did their job, packed up everything professionally, loaded it on the truck, and safely unpacked at the new place. No damages to property or items. Complete Professionals!
Just one note — they only take cash. I don’t feel safe with all cash transactions but they give a detailed professional receipt so I trusted that based on my experience with them. Also, the plus with only cash is they don’t include any other extra costs like gas, travel, and other hidden charges. Everything is straight forward and easy to deal with.
Very happy with the service they provided especially with the situation I was handed just before moving day. I would definitely recommend them if you’re looking for a mover.

We recently moved from Vallejo to San Leandro & could not be more relieved with our decision to use Mike & the Movers.
We had kept the business card of the folks who moved us 9 yrs prior because of the PHENOMENAL job they did. The # was now Foster Van Lines (yes, I name names!) The owner, Matthew Foster, came to the house, took inventory, got the move date & sent a quote the following day. Quick response, I thought, & was impressed.
Unfortunately, follow through from Foster Van Lines was non-​existent. The adage of not judging a book by its cover so applies in this case as Matthew presented as a professional with his crisp shirt, khakis & iPad. Despite 2 emails & 1 follow up phone call to him & his staff requesting for confirmation, not a single word, no apologies, no nothing from this company.
In contrast, a single phone call to Mike and the job was confirmed. Mike even called us the eve of the move to check in, encouraging us to get a good night’s sleep! The arrival time was between 8:30 & 10 a.m. to allow for Friday traffic. Jim, Dan & Roonie arrived exactly @ 8:30!
What impressed us about these 3 men is the fact that they did the impossible: they took apart & reassembled a drafting table and hauled it up a stairwell that measures 21 inches wide!!!
We are fortunate to have made the decision to use Mike & the Movers. Their prices are unbeatable!!! They have become our go-​to movers and recommend them highly!

Mike has provided peace of mind by emphasizing no hidden costs what –so-​ever. He has also confirmed the appointment a day in advance and followed up with me the day after the move. This is service I had not received before from a moving company.
As for the move itself, the movers arrived on time, sociable, and were kind. No job seemed too difficult for them. The time it took to move took a bit longer than I had anticipated but all in all, it was all done with satisfaction and care.

We just had these guys help us with a move from Fremont to Pleasanton. We had already moved a lot of boxes and smaller items on our own, so the movers just handled the large furniture items and some big boxes. These guys arrived on schedule, worked hard the entire time without taking breaks, and took great care of our items. Our initial quote was for 2 hours, but it actually took 4 hours. Wrapping up all the furniture with protective wrapping and securing it all in the truck took up a lot more time than I had anticipated, but it’s obviously worth the effort. Plus, they had to maneuver the furniture up a narrow stairway, which was a lot of work for them. Their rates were really affordable, so it was ok that I had underestimated on the moving time because in the end, the bill was still manageable.
We went with a more expensive, more «professional» mover last time around (Go Pro) and those guys were moving in slow motion and took so many bathroom breaks, obviously trying to run up our hourly bill. Our 2 guys from Mike and the Movers weren’t like that at all. They did a great job and we would definitely hire them again for future moves.

Mike and his crew were really great. On the phone Mike provided clear instructions and a detailed cost estimate. His crew of three showed up on time and did an awesome job helping us move our belongings from storage into our new home. Even though these guys had performed a grueling apartment move that morning, they still worked really hard for us and we completed the move with time to spare.

Boo. We just waited 3 and a half hours to be moved by the untrustworthy Mike and the Movers. No show. Not even a call back. I am happy I did not give the 5 stars two years ago when we used Mike. Amina who is the girlfriend who does coordinating. Big boo to u. This «business» needs to be changed to Mike and the No Shows. They even sent an e-​mail confirmation — so beware!

I have used them twice already and I can fully recommend them. They are fast and charge reasonable rates. They definitely won’t jack you by taking their time or charging hidden fees. Mike made sure our team of guys showed up on time and was very accommodating. They fit right into our schedule on a short notice. I’ll be using them again for a 3^rd time to get all our crap out of storage.

These guys were great. The best movers that I ever had to deal with. There were completely professional, courteous, and did everything that they promised to do.
I will definitely use them for my next move.

I didn’t mean to move during a heatwave. I had no idea our move day would break 106-​degrees. I was wilting like a hothouse flower, but Mike and crew didn’t falter for a minute. They moved our 3+BR worth of crap from there to here like it was nothing. (OK, they grumbled about my heavy rusty garden stuff and the Cactus From Heck, but that only made me like them more.)
Their bill came to about half of what Delancey St. quoted us, so we were able to give them a big tip, which was much appreciated. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

I recently used Mike & the Movers for a local move in the Oakland /​Berkeley area. I was very happy with their service in all regards.
I filled out a form on their website, received a prompt quote in response, and they were very accommodating in scheduling an appointment at the last minute.
The movers actually called before they arrived to confirm their arrival time, and they were efficient and courteous.
The prices were very reasonable and there were no hidden charges, as I have encountered in past moves.
I would definitely recommend these guys. My days of renting a u-​haul and moving myself are over.

These guys are the absolute best. They’re pleasure to work with and the rates are very very reasonable for the quality of service received.
Just can’t say enough good things so I’m not going to… Very very highly recommended, absolutely loved’em.

We used Mike’s moving service in a recent move, and they were just great. We had the unfortunate timing of a downpour during the move — all day — and the guys kept their spirits up despite the rain — an amazing feat!
They were punctual, kept moving (none of that dilly dallying to extend the time), and they were very aware of fragile items, not letting the animals out, etc etc.
All around, really good guys, good service, and we would use them again.

We were dreading moving day so much that we decided to just see how much movers cost. We sent a list of the items we’d be moving, and a list of all the stops we would need to take along the way. Mike and the Movers got back to us right away and the price was too good to be true. We felt like we were taking a chance by going with a moving company that did not have many reviews, but went with this company because we couldn’t beat the price.
These guys did an AWESOME job. They showed up on time, and were fast and efficient. They were such hard workers and very STRONG too! These guys got the job done so much faster than our friends and a few trucks would have, and they treated all of our items like valuables.
When you look at how much it costs to rent a Uhaul for a day, compared to low price and the ease of having Mike and the Movers take care of all the hard stuff for you, it just makes sense to makes sense to call these guys.
We will never move ourselves again. Thanks Mike and the Movers. 5 stars!
