Unleashed by Petco

Come here almost twice to three times a month, my dogorottmix loves to get fresh here. Dog baths are the best in here. if u love washing your pet I would say go there it’s clean there’s space and its organized great neighborhood pet store

I used to love this place… they just haven’t been the same since they changed management… that don’t have that boutique feel anymore. It’s really disappointing. All the cute items I used to shop for are no more… no more cute small dog accessories or cute harnesses. They don’t seem to restock seasonal items. The new people are not as friendly as the original team was, it’s just not the same.

Love to take my puppy there and give them a bath they have everything you need it so worth the $ 10

New pet parent. Had all supplies suggested by breeder at competitive store pricing. Offered $ 5 discount on first purchase. Very helpful, personable knowledgeable pm staff person. Took time to answer questions. Will definitely keep them in as my neighborhood pet shop.

I can’t say much about all the different services or products that Unleashed by Petco offers, but I can say that I do love the customer service the staff here brings to their customers. They’re always super friendly and accommodating & are always willing to answer any questions we have on different items they sell. For example, when that good ol’ heat wave was passing through we wanted to know what were the most popular or well-​liked iced cream/​yogurt treats for pups! The employee who was working really helped us out and was able to give us her advice, but also noted that it really is dependent on your dog! My pup’s personal favorite are the probiotic frozen yogurts! Flavor-wise…it’s apple juice and cheddar and tbh as a human I’m like uhhhh… that’s odd, but my pup is all for it and it was an excellent choice so she could beat the heat :)
Also, I love coming here because they have a variety of cookies I can choose from to buy for my special pup! & they’re pretty affordable (since you pay based on weight) and a few cookies can only set you back some change or a dollar if you’re really feeling generous and want to show your pup some extra treat-​osity! Hehe.

Love this place. They have everything out cheaters needs from a healthy food/​snacks to his toys. Customer service is always awesome. A bit pricey but it’s all worth it.

Have been a ‘card carrying’ Petco rewards member for awhile, every now and then get a postcard co-​branded with Petco/​Unleashed special deals. I was heading south on 880, stopped into Unleashed in San Leandro for the advertised cat litter (two brands were on sale). Neither brand was available at Unleashed, apparently they do not carry Tidy Cat (one of the brands carried everywhere on the planet it seems) and the other brand she could not locate. Not sure what the big whoop is about Unleashed, from the reviews it appears to cater to the dog crowd, 21 of their reviews contains the word ‘dog’, only two mention ‘cat’, they should have called it Dogs R Us. Mr Kitty was not impressed.

While the store itself is great, this review is specifically for their free puppy socials that they offer every Sunday.
I have been to many socials in my dog handling career and my experience includes assisting a Bravo Pup trainer during her puppy socials at the Pet Food Express on Davis. I also work with dogs as a supervisor at a dog hotel /​day care.
I have witnessed one of their puppy socials with my Great Dane puppy and thought the whole time that I didn’t like the way that they corrected dogs from doing unwanted behaviors (i.e. humping, nipping, rough housing, etc.). They are the most strict puppy social I have ever witnessed so if you have a puppy that tends to have mouthy or humpy play, I would stray away as you will probably be holding your puppy in «time out» 99% of the social. Find a puppy social with Bravo Pup instead. If you have a shy puppy or one with PERFECT play (i.e. chase and NO mouthing) then you are all set to have a great social at Unleashed. I knew, off top, that these trainers were not knowledgable when they said my puppy was very shy. Clearly not reading my dog’s body language correctly, as he started playing within less than 3 minutes.
ANYWHO, I typically work on Sunday’s so Papa took our puppy to class yesterday. As I will admit I have no accurate knowledge as to what exactly happened, but Theo ended up getting a good few scratches on the inside of his ear during a small altercation. Ear cuts tend to bleed A LOT, but with the proper after care, they should heal correctly with no problems. I get a text from my boyfriend telling me that the trainer put powder on his cuts, thus sealing the wound. Professionals that work with dogs should know the danger of sealing ANY wounds, as bacteria can get trapped inside… especially without cleaning them prior to sealing. When I called to express my concerns, the trainer claimed that the powder had special antibiotic stuff in it… which I am very suspicious about. Powder is used to stop bleeding, which trainer, Amelia, told me there was not a lot of — so why the powder? She told me her intention was to seal it and when I asked if she cleaned it prior she answered no.
My boyfriend (Theo being his first dog) did not know any better to correct her. Because of the poor after care of Theo’s cuts, he has a large lump on his ear where she sealed it. BESIDES the incorrect sealing of his wound, HOW this happened is confusing to me because this class never lets these dogs do anything unless their play is absolutely perfect. When I asked how this happened, her story was completely different than my boyfriend’s and she said it «happened too fast». Trust me… with the amount of dogs that I work with, I know that things happen. But the professional’s job is to ensure that things do not escalate. I would not be upset had the trainer handled the situation properly.
This lack of knowledge just confirms my uneasiness with pretty much all Petco, PetSmart, or Unleashed trainers. Provided you know absolutely nothing about how to do the basic training for your new puppy, I recommend these large chain stores. However, if you need to deal with a more difficult puppy (or if you want to raise a very good puppy in general), I definitely recommend doing a lot of research and finding more experienced trainers. Again… Trust me. I end up seeing a lot of clients that have «graduated» from these stores that still need a lot of work as adults. While I believe owners are most of the problem, through my experience, the socialization that puppies experience between 8 – 12 weeks is so damn important! Make it count and go to trainers that know what the hell they are doing.

I like going to this store. Prices are definitely cheaper than petfood express. I like to give my dogs a bath here too.

Brought my basset hound in today for a shower and it was an extremely easy process. They have basically everything you would need for a shower: your choice of shampoo, conditioner, brushes, combs, towels, dryer, cotton balls, and ear wash solution, for only $ 10!
After you pay $ 10 at the counter, the cashier will give you your choice of shampoo, conditioner, and brushes. (Everything else you need is on the shelves in the self wash room).
There are three shower stations and two dryers available. The facility is extremely clean and the employees are more than happy to help if you don’t know how to work the shower.
Overall I had a great experience and will be back soon to give my basset hound another shower!

Although this store is fairly small, and their prices aren’t always the best, 5 stars for their friendly service and the self service bath for my heifers!
Come here often for the $ 10 dog wash, you can adjust the water temperature, chose your shampoo type, they provide towels, brushes, and a blow dryer. I also enjoy the ear cleaning solution + cotton balls for the entire package that will leave your pul feeling and smelling fresh.
One of my dogs can be very, leash reactive when he gets nervous (about bath time) and has on more than one occasion, barked and made a little scene while getting into the tub if there are other dogs getting a bath. Staff is always very helpful and i have never been thrown shade or dirty looks for him barking. Big points, and sorry all!

A BIG THANKS to Amelia for helping me decide on a canned dog food for my puppy with an upset stomach.
I came into Unleashed because it’s the closest pet store to my house and since it was late in the evening, I knew I needed as much time as I could get trying to find the best food.
After about 20 min of comparing labels, a sweet girl asked if she could help. I told her the problem and she quickly ushered me to the best dog food for my needs. She also offered up a couple of things to try at home with different options (yogurt, or pumpkin)
The food worked like a charm and my pup is back to her regular eating habits!!!

I’m confused by a lot of these reviews. I walked in today with my boyfriend and we browsed the store for over 30 minutes. We were not greeted, nor approached by any of the workers. During the first 5 minutes I had thought there were no workers on the sales floor. We walked by a few workers and not one of them even glanced at us or asked if we needed any help. When we went to check out there was a woman holding a large 30# bag of dog food for about 3 minutes before anyone came up to ring her. Great customer service???

I took my dog here for the first time to give her a bath. I really enjoyed the self service wash. My dog enjoyed walking and sniffing in the aisles (small aisles). My only complaint is the store is rather small.

I love this store. It has a small town pet store feel with big box support. The employees here are all amazing and know our dog by name! They are all so excited to see him when we are there!
The self baths are great! It is impossible to bathe our Great Dane at home but the deep tubs here make sure he stays sneaky clean!
We did puppy classes with Amelia for our last dog and are going to do them with our new puppy as soon as his vaccines are up to specs!
Even though they are technically in San Leandro, they are extremely supportive of the San Lorenzo community!

This particular Unleashed, and general pet supply store, is our favorite! Relatively well stocked with all the essentials. Self-​washing stations are clean and organized with shampoos, towels, dryers etc. for $ 10. The best part about this store is the customer service! Love that they LOVE the animals that come in and are always so friendly to our pup. They don’t know my name, but they certainly know his! Amelia, the trainer, is always wonderful. She welcomes my questions and is always more than happy to give me training tips (even though we’ve yet to attend any of her puppy training classes: x). Our Kuma will also run to her immediately and flop over for that belly rub.
We’ve yet to be disappointed, and for the most part will find everything we need on a more immediate basis. Now we will wait for them to put up their Petco Pets wall so we can add our photo to it: D.

Since my little boy sheds so much darn hair (and still no signs of balding), Unleashed is the best place to wash your dog so that the hair doesn’t clog up your drain at home.
Love this place! Can’t beat the price either! $ 10!

Once again, it goes to show you that staff attitude makes all the difference in the world! I’m not clear on what the difference is between «Unleashed» and the regular Petco, but I like it here better.
The staff is really friendly and helpful. I work with a rescue organization, and have come in for adoption events. The folks here love animals, and that’s the biggest part of a pet store experience for me. They’ve helped us to focus the dogs so we can take pictures for Petfinder. They ooh and ahh over the adoptable dogs. They cheerfully help me to find the products I need for my own dog.
It’s just a pleasant experience.

13 dogs came to Unleashed by Petco for a special birthday celebration for Buster, Kensie and Bear! These Corgi’s were turning 3 years old and were from the same liter. How cute is that? Each year these 3 siblings come together to party but this year they partied like its 1999!
The staff sectioned off a corner for the dogs and their people. So, you felt like you were in your own space. The party came with balloons, peanut butter banana cake, lots of water bowls, pee pads, chew toys, balls, and chairs for people to sit on. You can also bring human items like soda, chips, and etc. but we concentrated on the dogs needs instead.
The dogs started mingling to get to know each other. Yes! They were sniffing each others butts! That’s what they do. Some lounged and basked in the warm sunshine. Some barked and tried to start a rumble. Some couldn’t leave their people’s side for a second and shivered and shaked the entire time there (that was my Winstie, he was scared). There was a lot of love at first sightings going on as you can see some dogs following others instantly and wouldn’t leave them alone. Yes, that’s how dogs par-​tay!
The staff was super nice and attentive. They even opened up a new nail clipper for us to use on a small chihuahua. In which we ended up buying 2! A few owners washed their dogs in the self doggy washing section. And others picked up snacks and other items for their dogs. Overall, the party was a success. It was fun seeing so many dogs come together to celebrate a birthday.
I would recommend this place to any owners that want to throw parties for their dogs! Or just come on by and pickup stuff for your baby-​love. This place has it all!

I came here with my boo and his mama on their second day Grand Opening!
On that day, I got a FREE tote bag with any purchase, a pound of dog treats and a $ 10 gift card!
The customer service was FANTASTIC and the staffs are really friendly!
Behind the registers there’s a shelf full of free samples, you can ask for it!
It’s not that big of a building, but their prices are really high!
Overall, it’s great addition to the Greenhouse plaza and pet lovers too!!!
