Great for that pie craving anytime if the day. Tried the cherry sour cream, Dutch apple, and custard pie. Favorite was Dutch apple pie a la mode because the mix of the warm pie with the ice cream was the perfect combination to a late night snack. Highly recommended

This place is good. Open 24/7, breakfast type of place. has your eggs, Bacon, pancakes, waffles etc. whatever a reg breakfast place would have doesn’t WOW me tho. but wait til you taste their Pie! Hence their name. that’s some good stuff! Very rich flavor. Tables inside are very close to each other, so you tend to sometimes bump into tables often(or that’s just Me being clumsy Lol)

If there were no stars, I’d use that. Let me expound a bit. I’ve been to Heidi’s Pies several times, at different times. The end result has always been the same: Decent food and ABYSMAL service. Every. Single. Time. Ok. The good: Pies are scrumptious. I’ve had several and they are all damn good. Burgers ditto. Pot roast ditto. Never really had an issue with the food. The bad: Every time you go in, it’s self seating. Which is fine. But maybe they just don’t like my looks, who knows, but people that come in after me get waited on and I’m ignored. Every. Single. Time. I always have to get up and make some noise and they pretend that they never saw me, even after looking and avoiding eye contact. I’m clean, decently dressed and not a scruffy bum and thus don’t expected to be ignored in a place that is taking my hard earned moneh for a product that I can get elsewhere. Sorry folks. Even if you have to get lesser pies elsewhere, to me the lack of service kills it. I wouldn’t eat there again if it were the last place on the planet. It’s damn sad too, because pies. :(

Braved the post-Prom crowds for a slice of apricot pie, a slice of cherry pie, and a whole in-season fresh strawberry pie. Total: $ 31. Completely packed on a Saturday night, as everyone from students to tech guys were enjoying their diner standards: country fried steak and eggs, egg skillets, meatloaf, burgers and fries, etc. All classics, no fancy interpretations/deconstructions, or fusion twists. Small parking lot, open 24 hours, tired but kind waitstaff, the décor/ambiance preserved in time. It’s a peninsula institution where everything tastes exactly as you would expect it to and that’s part of the charm.

I drive by this place so many times and have always wondered about it. They sell their pies at the Sunday civic center farmers market in San Francisco and my BF has purchase the banana cream pie before. Their banana cream pie is amazing ! The whip cream even has sliced almonds on top which adds a really nice texture to the cream as you are chewing. Anyways finally one day at 4am driving back to San Francisco from San Jose I had to use the bathroom really badly and remembered that Heidi’s pie is opened 24 hours. So I came here to use to bathroom and also an excuse to eat. My boyfriend ordered the cinnamon roll French toast thar comes with eggs and sausage and I ordered the coconut cream pie. The food prices here seems like inflation does not exist! In addition the food is also really yummy and tasty!

I love that Heidi’s Pies is open 24 hours. I mean, I haven’t been here at an unreasonable hour yet but I love the idea that IF I wanted pie at midnight I could. :-) The service has always been friendly and take out is quick and painless. I haven’t been disappointed with any of the pies I’ve tasted(yet). We come here for post-dinner dessert pretty frequently, and it’s always been satisfying.

The food here is pretty decent. Standard American diner food. Main issue is that service is pretty bad. When our party sat, it took almost 15 minutes before we got a drink order. Once we finished our food, it was about 15min before we got our check. During this whole hour and some change of sitting here, I never got a refill on my drink. My guess is that back of the house is solid, but front of the house needs work.

This review is loooong overdue. Da kid lived in Burlingame for a couple of years so most of our trips to the mainland U.S. Involved a stopover in the South Bay Area. On one of our many trips over the years we came across Heidis. A family owned operation in San Mateo, they have the feel of a small local family chain restaurant but yes, there is only one. Established in 1970, they are open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Like any 24 hour coffee shop, they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner options and I have to say, as far as the meals go, the breakfast options are the best. Lunch and dinner offerings are not that good. Pedestrian at best, not consistent, many times too salty or bland. The servers are for the most part efficient and provide pretty good service– but sometimes… Don’t be afraid to get their attention if they are taking too long. You know, «the squeaky wheel gets the grease.» So why the good rating? It’s for the pies! I have had a chance over the years to try many different types and they have all been consistently good. The fresh fruit pies when in season can’t be beat. Their crust is always delicious with just the right amount of flakiness-mmmmm. But if we can’t get one of the fresh fruit pies our pie of choice is the sour cream cherry pie. The best sour cream pie I have ever had– a winner in my book. Get a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it Ala mode and a cup of straight black coffee. Heaven on Earth– mmmm… This is a FIVESTAR experience in terms of their pies. Eat some place else for lunch or dinner, come here for the pie. A must visit whenever in the Bay Area.

I came in here to buy a blueberry sour cream pie on my way home from SF. My coworker had told me it was to die for. It is. OMG. too bad its in San Mateo and not closer to San Jose. The pie was a little pricey compared to Marie Callendars but was really good. I liked the crust better. The staff was really nice. I paid for my pie and then asked if I could buy an iced tea to go. The manager gave it to me for free, since I had mentioned it was my first time visiting. I will be back. I know the restaurant is open 24 hours(it sort is like a nicer denny’s) but pie is the only thing I got.

I come here to reminisce john sometimes. It was his favorite place to eat before he went to who knows where and died. They still haven’t found him yet but he must be dead by now so I always come here to make a toast to him with some water or a milkshake, have a meal, have some of the greatest pie around and think about memories of the old times. Everything is soo fresh and delicious here. Anytime of the day is good for coming here and no matter what time you come the food tastes soo fresh and delicious. They have soo many great pies to choose from and the waitresses are the best. John also loved the waitresses here. This place is still open 24hrs a day too, man I hope this place never closes down because this is my historical landmark. The location is great too. Hey there’s a pool hall across the street and even a bar that has karaōke on sundays, oh joy!!!

I only ever go here for the pie to-go, and more specifically, only the blueberry sour cream pie. I strayed a few times, and always regretted it. I cannot comment on anything else. The blueberry sour cream pie is just the right amount of sweet, blueberry flavor, custard and sour cream topping. The crust is always buttery and flaky enough. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Pro Tips: If you desire a blueberry sour cream pie on the weekends, please call at least a day in advance to order your pie. They very quickly run out, they do not reserve pies either, they will only take orders for the next day or more. If you are trying to feed more than 4 family members this pie, one pie may not be enough. Proceed with caution, order more than one. I’ve heard of a single woman eating half the pie by herself in one sitting. That woman may or may not be me.

Amazing, friendly service and great food, but unfortunately today will be my last time to ever come here for breakfast until Scott lowers the price of milk and orange juice. Glass of milk $ 3.29 and OJ $ 4.95, and no, they’re not organic or fresh squeezed. Then with coffee I spent nearly $ 12 just on beverages. Happy to come back when they fix this.

It’s a cute little pie bakery and diner like restaurant. My boyfriend loves his pies but our lactose intolerance doesn’t allow for such indulgences often. We wanted some dessert after our meal at Broadway Prime on Valentine’s Day but I didn’t want to insist on having everyone stay for my craves so the boyfriend and I left to his childhood place, Heidi’s. We’ve been here to pick up a couple of pies for Christmas time but I didn’t have any of it because I don’t like having my fruits cooked. Weird? Maybe. Anyway, we came in and all of the apples were sold out. Dutch apple, French apple, Apple. The boyfriend had his custard pie and I had a sundae. Somehow he convinced me to try either a peanut butter or chocolate pie. That I did. That I did. Now I want to go back to pick up a half pb/half chocolate pie. It was so … ahh, it hit the spot. There was only 1 person kind of working there, an older woman. She was a little turned around with the random blitz of people walking in so she kept forgetting what we asked for even though it seemed as though she scribbled something down in her notepad. It’s fine, though. Everything was still good !

Went here twice, late at night, there were only two waiters. Service and food were okay. We also tried their pies and they were fresh. The menu selections were simple, comfort food. I am plan to come back during lunch time, this way I can see how the restaurant operates in service and food.

Diner food plus fresh baked potatoes pies contrast to more corporate places like Marie Callender’s. Salad cold and fresh; baked salmon ok; large portion size for price. 5 $ per slice. Takeout pies popular. Must popular flavors are banana crème and blueberry sour cream. Crust tastes better than the industrial pies. Can taste the lard flavor vs chemicals. Same commercial canned fruit in blueberry pie.

The flavor form daily fresh made pies are different than anything you can get from the corporate diners. Price is reasonable compared to the artisan bakeries where you have to buy the entire pie vs. 1 slice.

decided to update my review since recently we went to Heidi’s for dinner… I ordered the country fried steak plate comes with a salad or soup(I chose soup — cream asparagus), a side of veggies(corn was the veggie that day) and mashed potatoes, though I substituted with french fries and they allowed me. Hubby ordered the pot roast plate that also comes with either salad or soup(hubby went with salad!), a side of veggies and mashed potatoes. The portion was large! though we ate all our food because we’re just two piggies! The quality of the food is well. diner food quality… nothing to rave about! Though, hubby loved it because it’s comfort food! Their food was on the salty side, in my opinion and I couldn’t eat the cream asparagus soup because it was way too thick for my liking… it was more like a cream sauce! not soup! but again, hubby loved it and he ate it all!!! The country fried steak was fried very well… I personally enjoyed the battered because I love fried stuff ahahah and it was actually not greasy… The gravy was salty but again, hubby loved it! French fries were nothing to rave about but not greasy. The pot roast was generous in portion also and again salty! hubby loved it though. The mashed potatoes is totally homemade, no fuss, no frill, nothing fancy. The star of the meal was definitely the PIES!!! we ordered a slice of blueberry sour cream pie and a slice of cherry sour cream pie! They were very very very good, not too rich, not too sweet, just perfect! We both agreed that we liked the blueberry more than the cherry because there were a lot more fruit toppings ahahahaha but both pies are super good! The dinner plate was $ 13.99 each and the pie was I think $ 5 a slice. It is a better bang to buy the whole pie as a whole blueberry sour cream pie costs only $ 18.50 and it is good for at least 5 slices! but I heard that they don’t allow you to order a whole pie to dine in… Anyway… restaurant was never busy. we’ve been there a few times and it’s almost always empty(with only 3 – 4 tables occupied). Service is blah… but lots of take out for the pies! Well, come to Heidi’s Pie, buy a pie! totally worth it! so yummy!

I am currently sitting inside Heidi’s trying to enjoy my slice of pie with my homie. I would enjoy it more if the cooks weren’t staring at us in such a creepy way through the window. I feel really uncomfortable and I feel like I can’t look anywhere except the table because every time I look up, these fuck heads are giving us creepy ass looks and licking their lips. I am not feeling it. The pie is hella good though! And the waitress Sheila is really nice.

I’m more familiar with Heidi’s Pies because of their pie tent at the SF Civic Center Farmer’s Market. Finally eating at the brick and mortar diner with a friend was a nice change. The interior harkens back to those classic diners with counter seating and homey wooden tables. You seat yourself anywhere you want and a waiter takes your order. There was one guy who took beverage orders while another took the food orders. The food waiter looked like he was moving twice the speed as everyone else. My friend and I ordered pies. I ordered a slice of apple sour cream with a scoop of vanilla($ 1.60 for a scoop) while my friend ordered a slice of strawberry rhubarb. The pie is really satisfying. It’s not the absolute best pie I’ve had by any means. It’s one of those slices that perfectly ends a meal or is a good snack in between meals. I think I’ve had sour cream pie one other time in my life, but this was really good sweet sour cream. It nicely complemented the apple. The scoop of ice cream is generous. I found myself eating the ice cream more than the pie. My only wish was that pie was served warm. I tried my friend’s pie and it was also tasty. Heidi’s Pies is like a friend who you don’t have deep conversations with, but the small talk is amazing and dependable.

Heidi’s pies are heavenly — great selection and there are plenty freshly made pies are ready for pick-up if you need a quick dessert that will please your dinner guests. I have been to Heidi’s a few years and I was impressed with the pies every time. The place has its own parking lot and it is not a very big place. This has been the best place to buy pie in the San Mateo area for many years. I’ve tried several varieties of pies and all are good. Reasonably priced and friendly staff. The sour cream blueberry, apple, banana cream and fresh peach are my favorites. Oh, the crust was what I would die for, flaky and warm, yum! I have never sat down and had meal here, although the food must be good because the restaurant is usually filled. They are open 24 hours so a cool spot for a late night munchies attack.

Heidi’s Pie is a frequent stop for regulars who have been coming here since it opened many many years ago. Conveniently located along El Camino with a good size parking lot great menu selections and if you want something not on the menu if they have the ingredients they will make it for you. Great selections of pies Ok now on the bad note: I’m not a frequent patron here so when I walk in and see and hear two of the employees yelling with each other right at the front counter that is not a very good impression. Maybe others are used to this, maybe it’s a normal thing here, maybe it’s a one time thing, not sure but it was not a a good first impression not sure what it was about but it was right in front of all the customers Other than that my breakfast tasted good normal size portions not small but not huge just right to me. I had the breakfast skillet which came with eggs, potatoes, cheese, bacon, sausage, and onions. Peppers are also included but I prefer no peppers and I will say it was very yummy potatoes were perfect size taste and cooked perfect the flavor was on spot I would have gave more stars but just walking in and seeing/hearing the waitress arguing with another employee at the cash register just was not right

Heidi’s is where I end up after late night shenanigans, and then I realize it’s 3am and every other diner is either a cop or a group of people just as inebriated as me. I like getting their omelettes before going home because when I wake up I don’t hate myself for engorging on double doubles or greasy leftovers. Their banana cream and blueberry pies are pretty darn good too. I honestly don’t think I’ve been here sober but thanks Heidi’s for helping me make a good decision when I’ve probably already made some bad ones!

I have never dined in at Heidi’s and their pies are some of the best I’ve ever had. My favorites are the blueberry sour cream(and I don’t even like sour cream), blueberry, and custard. However, their service is AWFUL. Having always had their pies for the past two Thanksgivings, my mom and her office decided to order a week in advance in bulk. We called on the phone, they agreed, and we were instructed to get them the day before Thanksgiving. We show up just before 9AM. They outright refused to give us our order, claiming that they don’t take reservations. I understand it’s the holidays and when you can’t take orders during busy days, but seriously, a day before Thanksgiving? After we ordered and confirmed a week ago? Sloppy and inconsistent service. Both people in line and the staff were saying: «You should have come earlier.» That’s not an excuse. I will only be back when convenient, but this almost ruined our holiday if we hadn’t just got the ones that were available on the rack. We still didn’t even get the flavors we wanted either.

Not worth it. I came here because the bf and I happened to be wide awake and hungry at 3 am in the morning and this was one of the only places we could think of that would be open. Surprisingly, we were not the only ones in the restaurant at this time — there were two other people also up. Since this is obviously a slow time for the restaurant, they only had one waitress working. Normally that would be fine, but she was so incredibly slow. I asked for coffee twice and still had to wait 10 minutes to get it. The portions were pretty small and didn’t fill us up at all. It was mediocre quality food, but cheap so I guess you’re getting what you pay for. The pies did look tempting, but I decided against ordering one — who knew how much longer I would have to wait to receive it. If you’re up and passing through the area and simply cannot wait to eat anywhere else, then this place works for a quick bite. Otherwise, I would suggest going somewhere else.

I’ve never eaten at Heidi’s Pies, so my review is solely based on their pies. And from their pies, I’ve only had 3: The Blueberry sour cream, The Cherry Sour cream and Banana Cream. The Blueberry sour cream is by far my favorite… it’s not too sweet with a nice hint of tartness. The Cherry sour cream is a close second, but a bit sweeter. Their Banana cream is not bad, but I’d take Nations Banana Cream over theirs. If you’re ever in the San Mateo area, it’s definitely worth checking out. They sell pies by the slice too!

This place is known for their pies and simple breakfast items… been here many times but i guess never got a chance to review. Arrived at 9:30 a.m. and there was a little wait. Place is like an old-fashioned diner with counter seating. Ordered the ham and eggs which comes with sweet potato, regular pancakes or toast… i opted for the regular pancakes(3 of them) which was fluffy and simple along with a side of hash browns. My breakfast buddy ordered the 4 sausage, 2 eggs with belgian waffles… Price: $ 26.50 which isn’t too bad. Great service… refill on coffee, with staff periodically checking guest tables.

I have no freaking clue what any of these reviewers are talking about when they say they got bad service. What? What?! What are you talking about?! Look, Heidi’s Pies is all about the pies. The food is typical diner food — nothing to write home about. It’s good as far as diner food goes. The service was amazing. The sweetest lady helped us. She never let our drinks get empty. Food was out quick. Before I could ask she lowered the blinds so that my back was not on fire. She called us «sweetheart,» which I found endearing(although I’m sure some overly sensitive Bay Area dweller will manage to turn it into something negative). The pies are my jam, though. Dutch Apple. Custard. Damn, Gina!

Had such a nasty first time experience here. Place is a throwback to a bygone diner era, but also to a time of subtle racism as well… Was really excited to bring my nephews here, and as we were in awe with the ambiance, we were yelled out by this nasty lady to take a seat and not take any pictures… I should have taken the hint to just leave at that point… We sat at the bar, as far from that lady as possible. The other waitress was a sweet Asian grandma that felt bad for us and did everything she could to make the experience better. I asked the sweet lady if I could have a slice of their blueberry and strawberry pie, and the other lady comes over to scream at us again with a nasty«NO!». Turns out the baker is out on Sunday and most of more popular pies are usually sold out by then. Heads up not to go on a Sunday! We got the German Chocolate and Lemon Meringue instead. They would have been delicious, but the AC was barely on and the pies were just left to soak in the heat. They were so warm and mushy… yuck! During our whole time there, we saw our waitress being bullied around. When our waitress was occupied and customers went to the other waitress, she would yell at them and say«That’s not my part of the restaurant! Ask her!». She even walked by our waitress and whispered in her ear«I just did all YOUR filthy work!». We were all so bothered by the whole experience and left as soon as we could. Gosh…I hope that nasty bitter woman wasn’t Heidi herself…

The best banana cream pies ever. I used to always pick up pies from Nation’s, but they use less slices of bananas. The apple pie here is also delicious. They have so many different flavors of pies here, that I haven’t even come close to trying half of them. I think there’s something like 40 or so different kinds. During the holidays, they run out of certain pies. You’ll either have to come back a few hours later once they finish baking them. Or you’ll call ahead to set one or two aside. I wanted an apple pie for last Thanksgiving but they ran out so I got Dutch Apple instead. Everyone liked it but I still love the classic. I wonder how long it’ll take for me to try every flavor! Excited. It’s open 24⁄7 so that’s always a plus for a late night pie craving!

Opened 24 hours plus has GREAT tasty pies! OKOK this review is LONG overdue! I have been to Heidi Pies at least twice already and every time I have gone I have not been disappointed. I heard they made their pies freshly from this location and OH Man! They are delicious! After seeing it for myself I couldn’t help but not try some of that good ol’ people that people scream about! The food here is so good. I came the first time to buy a whole pie for my coworkers and they truly enjoyed it! I came the second time and decided to try their food that I have been seeing so much of on Unilocal and plus hearing about it in reviews. I can around brunch time and it was no wait at all. I was seated right away. I noticed it’s more of an older crowd during this time. Everything on their menu looked good from the County Scrambled Eggs, Burgers and seasoned home fries to the mashed potatoes! Yummy! I decided to stick to breakfast. I ordered: –Eggs Benedict and potatoes-After it coming out in less than 10 minutes, I have to admit the food was so delicious! I could have had more cheese on it but hey I think I’m just being picky. I devoured my plate! yumm and said to say I wanted more :) Afterwards, I decided for desert and after looking at all their options of pies I decided to go with the Dutch Apple. All the options looked good: Custard, Apple Sour Cream, Blueberry, man I can go on and on! I think I truly found my late night food spot in San Mateo! I will definitely be back, I have to many things to try on their menu and after all, I still have to go and taste more of those delicious pies that they have!
