Not bad. Not great. Had the salmon teriyaki lunch box. Portions are on the smaller side. The sushi rolls were pretty fresh and tasty. I may come back if in the area. Average.

Food was pretty good… wasn’t anything spectacular but it was good. What surprised me the most was their customer service. Its kind of a «hole in the wall» restaurant… really small, family owned, hidden in a plaza in crow canyon. But anyways, as we entered the restaurant the Warriors game was on and I kinda got too excited and the lady that owns the place was like«Yeah its on! Do you wanna sit close so you can watch?» and she was really nice. Then a couple that had just finished eating said goodbye to the lady and the sushi guy because i guess they were really good friends?(the point is coming up) so anyways basically the lady was really accomodating and nice. what was interesting to me was that ANOTHER Family came in and they were like friends too and apparently all these people are regulars and have been coming here forever and it was just really cool that the owners take their time to get to know their customers. Its a little pricey here but the service is great.

The restaurant door with many newspaper clippings talking about this restaurant, we thought it should be a great one. To our great disappointing, the food is so so… Some of the sashimi were not fresh and mushy; Hamachi Kama was a bit dry; Tempera was ok, there were some slices of Asparagus chewing like sugar cane. The rice was mushy too… no more Sakura.

Service is very very friendly, courteous, and prompt. Atmosphere is dated. Food is reasonable but rice is a bit sticky. Price is reasonable. Bathroom was clean.

As I was about to head to Spice Kit, I was thwarted to going to Sakura because I had this nagging«chirashi craving» that I just couldn’t kick off. So I went to Sakura instead and I regret going… but I guess on the brighter side, at least I know how the quality of the food here is and it’s still the same as when I was back here in 2007. I got the chirashi which cost $ 18.40 total(included tax) and well… you get a lot of rice and 11 pieces of sashimi. That’s it. The sushi rice was unfortunately overcooked so it was mushy. The fish slices were sliced in different thickness and not very consistent. The freshness of the fish was questionable as the texture felt slightly gelatinous and a slight off taste. I’ll have to try out Senro in regards to their chirashi because right now, Yayume is winning(theirs cost $ 17.95). Definitely won’t be back here again.

My wife and I went to this place a few months back when we dropped our son off at a classmate’s house for a birthday party and were looking for someplace to eat in the area while the kid’s party was going on. Knowing nothing about the area, we searched on the net and the reviews for this place seemed promising(tho a bit inconsistent). Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t skewed to the positive side of the inconsistency. The interior is a bit dingy and«unkempt»(by the entryway) with pictures stuck all over the wall in one area inside the doorway, but our first impression was very pleasant as a nice, grandmotherly Japanese lady greeted us upon coming in and sat us at the sushi bar as we’d requested. This sweet, kind lady was the best(and most authentic part) of our entire visit, and we really enjoyed our interactions with her and her help in answering questions. There was another older asian gentleman behind the sushi counter who I later determined was a Chinese man and another Chinese gentleman, whom I assume was Tony, also behind the counter sort of helping out and running things. Personally, I really, really prefer to go to Japanese Sushi restaurants that are run and owned by Japanese. An older sushi chef over here in SF sort of took us under his wing years ago, and we spent many an evening(at his sushi bar while eating) hearing the ins and outs of preparing fish for serving, the different ways one much handle different types of fish, what went into his training back in Japan. We learned that there was a lot more to ensuring that the fish was safe, fresh, and ok to eat than meets the eye(even to the point of some somewhat disgusting aspects where the fish must be carefully inspected and de-wormed or soaked to get various parasites to work their way out of the meat). This particular evening, various aspects that rubbed us the wrong way were the older sushi chef right in front of us who would barely make any eye contact and almost never speak — I was almost thinking he only spoke Chinese and that was why there was no interaction. Tony(or whoever was the other man behind the counter) would periodically bark(or more like shout) out instructions to the grandmotherly Japanese waitress or the other wait person; since he was almost in front of us too, this made for a not very peaceful meal/evening. And it’s not like there was a huge din that he had to be heard above or anything; there were only 1 or two other tables that were occupied on the Saturday night that we were there. But the thing that really took my goat was — there were no prices anywhere for any of the sushi. They were not in the menu. So I walked over to the big board on the wall that had all the special, fresh sushi listed and there were no prices there either. I asked the Japanese waitress about the prices and she told me that they change every day depending on the market price so there was no set price.(I think she must have sensed my somewhat shocked, dumbfounded reaction because a bit later she came back and told me that they were all between 6.25 and 6.85 depending on the item) Ok – a bit more than I’d expected for the looks of this kind of a place(which seemed to be the sort of place which people would just descend on and order a bunch of rolls as opposed to a real sushi/sashimi/omakase meal or Sushi Ran kind-of-place. So imagine my surprise when we order an uni and on the bill we were charged $ 12.90. But I was too fed up by the end of the meal to raise any fuss — plus Sakura is definitely not a high-end, upscale type of sushi restaurant where the nigiri prices might be listed by the piece as opposed to by pair(i.e. being charged $ 12.90 because we got two pieces of uni each at $ 6.45). As there were no prices for the sushi, we opted to just order a combination platter of nigiri so we would have some idea of what the cost might be. We got a mostly wholly unappetizing plate of fish, some of which I would consider it a bit of a stretch to label as completely«fresh.» So all in all, we left rather thoroughly underwhelmed(and disappointed). But thank you very much to the gentle, sweet grandmotherly Japanese lady who helped us with our meal.

My husband and I LOVE Sakura and sushi man Tony! We came here for several years before moving to San Diego — and have not found any other sushi place that compares. The people that work here are so nice and usually greet us by name when we come in! Even after moving away! We always made sure we hit this spot when we could come home to visit — and now are so excited to be regulars again now that we have moved back(after 6 years!). Walked in today and Tony still remembers us! The fish is always fresh — they pick it up daily. And they have some of the best rolls!(Ask about the yellowtail with macadamian nuts which is not no the menu.) It’s a little on the pricier side — but is so worth it for fresh food(the rolls are pretty large) and great service! I highly recommend

Came here for a quick dinner because I was craving sushi. I was trying to find a place that’ll be quick because I didn’t want to eat at a place where there was a rush. The menu was pretty short, not a ton of rolls, but holy shit. It was pretty expensive. I didn’t think the $$ on Unilocal would result me in spending $ 16 after tax for one rainbow roll. Not to say I’m cheap or anything, I’ve had better and cheaper sushi in the South Bay. I’m not sure if they’re using real crab meat or not in the rolls to make it more expensive, but the crab meat tasted different to what I’m used to. Wasn’t sure if it was imitation crab meat, but I think there was no mayo, because it wasn’t creamy. There was one girl working there she was kind and nice. I felt kind of bad for her because when she was sweeping, she was literally on her hands and knees and sweeping with a tiny pan and brush. Note sure if that’s a cultural thing, or what but I just felt bad watching her clean like that. My experience was okay, it really could’ve been better. The food was okay, but not worth almost $ 20. It was my bad for not looking at the menu before coming in.

This is the best Japanese food we had during our trip to California. It has a warm ambiance — family style deco with a big fish tank, a very relaxing sort of feel. Our waitress was really nice, the service was great throughout the night. As for food, everything was pretty good, seafood was fresh and delicious, chef’s very creative so there’re some specials to choose. This place is really a hidden gem, we will definitely visit again next time in town.

Heavy on the mayo, with *gasp* sriracha hot sauce all over one extremely overpriced roll($ 17, 5 pieces) that wasn’t even tightly rolled so it fell apart on the plate before I even picked it up. All their food is very overpriced — the ½ poki(sic) salad I had was $ 13 and had bottled salad dressing and… sriracha. Why bother trying to be a Japanese restaurant when you are meant to be a generic Asian one?! Also, the bathroom smelt like a lot of bleach was just wiped off the floor. Overall: awful and if I ever have to eat in San Ramon again, I’ll run far from this place. So gross.

Alright anyone that posts five stars for this place does not eat sushi. This is probably the worst sushi I’ve had in the entirety of the bay area. Décor is dim and depressing and prices are ridiculous at over $ 15 for most rolls. The rolls themselves are uninspired and I don’t know what people are saying about fresh fish. The tuna piece I had was a neon red and didn’t taste anywhere near fresh. The worst part is the rice. There’s no sign of any rice vinegar nor any real technique in rolling. Worst of all the rise is cold and seems to have been sitting there a long time. It’s soggy, tasteless, and frankly, disgusting. It doesn’t help that they pile it on the rolls(maybe to make up for the exorbitant prices. Seriously, if you are looking for sushi this is probably the worst place you can go to in the entire city. To top it off, in the evening now, we’ve had stomach issues after eating there. Someone needs to put these guys out of their misery.

Just okay sushi.. I have definitely had much better sushi. The rice in my California roll was cold. The spider roll was just okay, again I have had much better tasting rolls. Taste like premade grocery store sushi. But over priced!

This place has nice fresh sushi and super friendly staff. Rolls are made without loading up the mayo. They use real crab! Amazing

I’ve been here a number of times over the years but only recently did I notice a difference in both my favorite sashimi and service which has made me come back a few more times over the last couple of weeks. When I am working out of the San Ramon area, this restaurant is within walking distance of my office– tucked in the Crow Canyon Place shopping center by Sports Authority -(this works out for me when I don’t feel like driving out). Today I was literally short on time and needed something quick and light. I opted for my favorite type of sashimi: Hamachi and was delighted with how fresh it was.(5). Totally made my day!(It’s hit or miss as sometimes each sashimi slice plated are of adequate size and sometimes you feel you’ve been cheated a little though the freshness has never been compromised). I have had the lunch specials such as the Saba shioyaki and teriyaki salmon and was a sadly disappointed with how tiny the fish were. It would be nice if the fish portion were larger. But mostly I come for the fresh Hamachi sashimi when I need a quick fix. Service is fast and efficient.

Our family loves this place! Every roll is delicious and the service is always on point. We have had great meals here and enjoy doing sake bombs with everyone. It is a hidden gem in San Ramon. Not to mention they have a huge projection screen on the back wall that is great for kids… or anyone who loves the Lego Movie.

The stars on the menu are the raw fish items(sashimi, sushi, chirashi). The fish is so fresh and the texture is perfect. The rice in the chirashi is seasoned just right and the presentation is a work of art. Oishii(delicious)! Other menu items such as the combination lunches and nabeyaki udon were good.

My husband and I have been to Sakura a few times now and we will be back again. We live about 5 minutes from here and like that we don’t have to fight traffic for fresh sushi. Fresh food, great service. Standard prices. The atmosphere is that of straightforward Japanese décor, fish tank, sushi bar. Not a glitzy place. It smelled fresh inside which is a huge thing for me when I go a sushi restaurant. I was craving tempura shrimp and ordered the appetizer, was disappointed that it only came with 2 shrimp and the rest vegetables. We ordered their gyoza appetizer and loved it so much we ordered a second. We also ordered their chicken teriyaki and tempura shrimp combo dinner, so I could have more shrimp. In the past we did sushi rolls and really liked them. 4 stars for service, food and cleanliness. Would’ve liked a more substantial portion of tempura shrimp, but we’ll definitely be back.
