Did this place close down? My coworkers and I used to go there once or twice a month, last week the store was closed. Does anyone know?

ok place for lunch, but don’t expect top notch Japanese food. I have been here 5 times that I can remember. My general impression is that the food is adequate, but not overly inspiring. This time I had the Bento special with gyozo, Chicken Katsu, and Tempura. All were fairly well made and had decent flavor. The chicken katsu was well cooked(not overdone like last time). The person I was with got the bento with california roll, salmon sushi, and chicken teriyaki, Similar impressions on his part, though he did feel that salmon was pretty fresh. He also got an additional order of Unagi which was good. Miso soup here is not so great. I think it is some standard packaged mix. Service is fairly quick — order at register and pick up food at the window when ready. last time I was there it was fairly crowded and there was some minor confusion over whose order was ready. They have a case with a selection of soda’s and other drinks as well as fountain soda. And they have beer and wine for the Friday lunch. The little mini strip mall has 5 places to eat. so it’s a good place to meet up for lunch since there is probably something that will suit everyone’s tastes. parking can be tough on a busy day, but was no problem today. I would rate it 2.5 stars if I could. Since the prices are reasonable, I’ll round up to 3.

I came here for lunch this afternoon — I was ready for a nice Japanese lunch but what I got was completely different than what I expected. First off — this place is cheap, it’s not expensive to eat at. I’m not holding anything against it for that. However, when you advertise your establishment as a Japanese restaurant, then you better serve something that can pass for Japanese food. I had the basic chicken teriyaki bento, and it made me lose the appetite that I had built up all morning. The miso soup was lukewarm and watered down, the teriyaki sauce didn’t taste like teriyaki sauce(nor did it look like it — it looked more like black gel than anything), the chicken was burnt and not moist at all(this caused me to chew it like beef jerky), but the salad was good(although there wasn’t enough of it). I won’t be eating here again, which is a shame because all of the other restaurants in this strip mall are very good. If the food was this bad at lunch here, I don’t expect the dinner to be any better.

There’s nothing good about this place. The food quality is bad. They gave us burnt chicken teriyaki. The Salmon was as thin as paper, and dry. The letttus was old and soft. The miso soup was bland and watered down. It’s not really a restaurant. You order at the cashier and you pour your own drink from the drink fountain, you pick up your own food and you’re expected to clean up after yourself. The price is expensive for what you get. The owner doesn’t want to run the A/C so it gets steaming hot in there. The only reason I went there was because of the Unilocal review was OK. Now I know better.

TASMANTERRIYAKI This is a fast food Japanese restaurant that is close b to work; great for quick eats, but not too excellent on taste. I ordered the Chicken Terriyaki Bowl, which was quite large, but the sauce tasted weird: wasn’t very tasty and it was very thick. Can’t say it tasted bad, but it didn’t taste great either. I’ll probably try more dishes next time, like their bento boxes and ramen, but the terriyaki sauce wasn’t all that. It’s fast food, right?

This is one of my favorite places to go to lunch, since it’s close to work, and I’m a sucker for Japanese food. They have daily deals M-F. The ones I remember is the bbq chicken bulgogi, sushi roll, and dragon roll specials. The biggest reason why this place does not get high marks is the price. I believe on average be expected to pay $ 10+ for any lunch. They have two lunch special bentos, Combo A and B. The difference is that one has gyozas, and the other has california rolls. I usually get the Combos with chicken katsu and salmon sushi. Their salmon is very sweet and melts in your mouth. Chicken katsu is very crispy and well fried and the right thickness. The owners there are very nice, and they are Korean, so if you’re looking out for those Korean owned Japanese places, this is one of them. They also have many different types of korean dishes here as well. Let me share you a simple story about what to watch out for here. Once I was ordering I was asked if I wanted extra rice. And I was like, oh wow this lady is so nice and likes me(I come at really late hours so she knows me). So I said sure. Well apparently I get the bill and I was charged a dollar extra for rice. At this time I’m looking at my bill, then back at her with her beaming smile, and then back at my bill of failure. I didn’t have the heart to take it back. I made sure that day I ate the rice with as much vigor as possible. The moral of this story? Don’t be a pussy like me. :( So basically great food, but very pricey. Very little seating, so be sure to come during early or late hours to avoid traffic during lunch. COOLFACT: The VTA Light rail stops right in front of this place! UNCOOLFACT: The VTA light rail takes forever to get here! The tasman/1st transfer sucks…

This place is really close to where i live, so it’s really convenient for me to just call or walk in, and get a pick up order whenever i want something cheap and decent for dinner. Came here on a Friday night, and it was dead. However, i did want to eat rice pretty bad, so i decided to give it a try. The menu is quite limited to mostly Teriyaki as their name implies, but they do have other items too; such as gyoza, a variety of Donburi, Udon, some house specials and a little of the typical sushi/sashimi/nigiri. Being the sushi monster freak that i am, i didn’t bulge to even look for sushi. I never do, if the place isn’t really a sushi place. And even though the name of the place states Teriyaki, i didn’t bother with that either. I always feel that i can make Teriyaki at home easily… so i picked the Spicy Chicken house special. The entrée came with rice, soup and salad(which i substituted with kimchi). The portion was good in reference to the price. I got excited because the chicken looked really spicy; which what i was hoping for. But despite the spiced up, red sauce; i couldn’t quite taste the flavor, and didn’t even feel a hint of spice. So it was really disappointing. The chicken came with pieces of veggies. The kimchi, is a little bland but it was okay. The soup was also very watery and flavorless. But the RICE. yeah. perfectly cooked white rice. It was probably the reason I still managed to eat my completely unflavored spicy chicken still. I won’t hate on this place just yet… since it’s really convenient for me when I’m foodless. But maybe next time, i’ll stick with the teriyaki or try the gyoza. Oh. the service is pretty fast. And i do appreciate that the server actually hand delivered my order to my car as i decided to smoke while waiting for my order.

I enjoy Tasman Teriyaki when on a time-constraint for lunch. I am quite close to their location. I have always had luck with good tasting food, large portions, and a very good price. Unfortunately, for a take-out dinner, we had extremely bad luck one time, for both of our meals, in that the meat was very fatty and way overcooked. The chicked was rubbery and the tempura was cold and overly saturated in oil. The rice felt like it was sitting out for a while. It was a disaster. Since then, we did not go back until recently. I stopped by again for lunch, and it was just as good as I remembered it. I’m giving the place another chance, as I think it was a fluke that we had such a bad meal that one time for take-out dinner. However, my wife is insistent that we do not order it again for dinner– she’ will only order it for lunch.

Was heading to Tivo for Mogo, got there saw the line that wrapped around the parking lot. Decided to try something else. Drove by Tasman and saw the strip mall of Carls Jr. Walked around to see what else. Well Tasman Teriyaki wasn’t too busy but had folks looking like they were enjoying what they ate. Looked at the menu. Cool prices are good all around $ 7.50. –1 point for bait and switch on price. Walked in and looked at the prices on the wall, hey the prices are all more expensive. Well I guess pay a dollar more won’t hurt. I even asked the lady about the price and she said oh the menu is old. Isn’t there some law about price misrepresentation? Ordered the spicy pork bulgogi(sp?), salad, rice meal. Ok Salad was ok. «Spicy pork bulgogi» not only was it not spicy, it was way tough. –2 Rice was really old. I had to really chew hard to get that down. The little roach I saw walking on the wall next to me another –1. So all in all, 1 star. I don’t give many places 1 star but this one deserves a .5 or less. My coworker also had something similar, cept his short ribs was actually ok. But the his coke was flat, no carbonation. Definitely not coming back.

I love this place because its 2 lights away from my building. I come here on Fridays because of the sashimi bento special. it’s a good deal. filling and healthy. I come here almost every Friday if I am at work. so HOLLA to if u wanna have lunch! hahah. Anyways. the place is fairly small maybe it can seat about 20 ish people? The people here are friendly and its clean. they take card so thats a plus! Their other bento boxes are cheap as well. it’s Friday today soo woo hooo! Sashimi Bento here I come!

Great place for lunch. Of course more expensive than MacDonalds, but much healthier too, agree? So the price is right(lunch menu). Note to owners: I’m the one that got a free piece of pancake(that was not on the menu) from you, when I was picking up my to-go order. I saw it lonely laying on the dish next to my order and looking at me :) Couldn’t help myself and asked the owner«what is it»? That’s how I got it :) GREAT dish! You should definitely include it on the menu and do some mini-promo with a picture. I love it, others will follow. Especially it would be a great addition to vegetarian menu.

So this is just an OK place for what it is and where it is located. I decided my first taste would be a non-sushi/sashimi lunch. So I had their Bento combo #2 with 3 gyoza, a small salad, miso, and rice with both the pork and chicken Katsu. Good chicken and nicely done. The pork Katsu was just OK, tasting not bad but not great, especially under the Worcestershire-based sauce they put on it. Note: Prices in front 4 years old and are not what you see inside the place, which I mentioned to the owner. Oh and the bento tray was sticky to the touch. Not a great impression. With other places like Honba Sushi, this is not a necessary place to go to for sushi/Japanese.

Errr not great. The meat was cooked well(I got the kalbi), but it was fatty and the marinade sucked(no flavor, no sweetness, no nothing). And my stomach gurgled all afternoon. Might have been because I was super hungry before I ate, but it might have been the food. I’m just saying. Oh, and the prices posted outside are incorrect. It’s more expensive by nearly $ 2. I don’t like it when restaurants do that.

I work on Tasman, and there are only a hand full of Asian restaurants within a 20 minute radius. So once in a while, when I’m craving some sort of rice dish, I would have to come here. The food is pretty expensive for that it is. The portions are pretty small. Don’t ever get the sushi combo plate because they give you like 8 small pieces of sushi and charge you $ 15 for it. Their chicken bowl is the only good thing about the place. It is inexpensive and well made. With To-gos and $ 5 gyros right next doors, I really don’t recommend this place for lunch to anyone. Unless you are craving some Japanese food.

I was craving a chicken bowl today and Unilocaled Tasman Teriyaki. I had actually eaten here a few times in the past and simply didn’t remember that it was so close to my office. I got a chicken bowl for around 5 bucks. So it’s a great value; sure beats the same old foot long sub. Although the bowl was good, it wasn’t great. The chicken was all very lean and all the extra fat was cut off fairly well. The sauce was a bit different from other places but in all, I was satisfied. I expected a chicken bowl to come with some veggies too, but not here. Its not mind blowing but I’ll be eating here again soon.

I love this place! I don’t know why ppl say the food is bad, but this Japanese food tastes great in my opinion. The owners are very friendly and always remember you and what you like, they treat you like family. It’s true their not very busy from 2pm and on but that’s because that whole chain of restaurants right there gets their business only at lunch time because the location looks kinda dead. John, the owner, makes every sushi from scratch and really throws out the big guns, and the prices aren’t bad compared to most Japanese restaurants. IDK, for me it’s always been great, and everyone I have brought to this place has really enjoyed it, so I hope you give it a chance too!

This place is okaaay. If you’re really craving Japanese food, sure this place is okay. The food honestly is not all that tasty and it’s a bit overpriced. It can get pretty busy around lunch time on the weekdays. Something plus a drink will run you about $ 10. The service isn’t bad. I hadn’t gone to this place for almost half a year and the lady there remembered me right away and knew what my regular order was. They’re nice people. It’s a shame the food isn’t that great. My reaction when someone wants to go here: Ehhh… sure why not? /shrug

All good things must come to an end. One of my favorite places to eat in Santa Clara has disappointed me and prompted me to find alternate places to eat. Whatever happened to the original owner who made sure his customers were well taken care of. Now they have an owner straight out of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out who resembles Piston Honda. I used to get extra rice on the house, but now he charges an extra dollar. The #2 has really hit rock bottom. The beef now tastes as if it was reheated in a microwave and the chicken yakitori should now be called«chicken yuckitori.» The chicken was tough and dry. The gyoza and rice were the only tolerable items that night. I don’t think I’ll be back. Good bye old friend…
