I love this place soo soo much! Nice servers and chefs, yummy rolls and nice atmosphere! They give you a list with the descriptions of all the rolls — super helpful. Their sushi/sashimi is only mediocre(the fish is a little tough), but you get what you pay for, and their prices are low. Their rolls and their fried ice cream are the best! Totally affordable and yummy!

Sure it says 50% off sushi all the time so in effect its just not expensive but damn is it a good place to grab a bite. I live in the area and walk there when there is a Laker game on. I watched last years NBA finals there with a group of Laker fans and it was really fun. The Sushi is great for the price, not the best in the world but seriously good if you live in Santa Monica. I Love the Mountain Roll i eat it every time i go there, and my fiancée loves the salmon. Get the salmon in any form there is something about it that makes it awesome. ***UPDATE*** Changed owners/management! Makes me sad. The price increased dramatically and the quality of the Sushi overall has decreased. Salmon is OK but it makes me so sad to see Yuni go away.

I usually expect places that are on the coast to cater fish at a cheaper price than inland. This place is expensive, so expensive they cheap out and make you pay for the green tea. Any place that makes me pay for green tea that comes in form of a tea bag, instantly loses a star. A good tactic would be to use free leaf tea in one big container, and serve people for free. Just saying… I don’t remember exactly what I had, but it was good. I was a bit annoyed that their menu wasn’t updated, because by the time I was ready to order my sashimi(expecting I could chose between 2 or 4 pieces as state in the menu), I was told I could get no less than four. They added a bit here and there for the maguro and sake, but it seemed rather exorbitantly priced for what it was. The salmon was tasteless, but the tune was delish. Also, I wanted two pieces to mix and match, not a buffet. The bento was decent, a lot of food, but the California rolls were disappointing. Any place that uses fake crab and charges the price of real crab gets instant star off. The reason I give this place three stars is because of the tea and crab. Sushi usually is expensive so I am not entirely dissatisfied. We went there on a Sunday, late afternoon, and there were no more than three other people. The hostess and sushi chefs were nice, and it was fun practicing my Japanese. I think this place might be more entertaining when there’s a crowd on a game night.

Yuni Sushi is a low key place that you probably wouldn’t expect to be so good. I used to go there at least twice a week before I had to move far from Santa Monica. I still go there as often as I can though. The ingredients are very fresh and good quality, the place is super clean, the staff is really friendly. I usually customize my order to just what I like best. As long as the ingredients are top quality and the chef is flexible enough to follow your directions, it’s all great. Combine that with very reasonable prices and you got a winner. FYI, I order a plain grilled salmon sushi(usually as much as 20 pieces) with their Dynamite sauce on the top, which is pure magic. I can’t seem to be able to replicate this at any other sushi place I’ve been to and all my friends have confirmed that this is one delicious roll.

Place was clean but the food was pretty dismal. Got the bento box for lunch. Salmon Sashimi was good but the tuna was flavorless. The Beef Teriyaki was Hamburger steak that was pounded into oblivion, absolutely disgusting! Miso tasted like it was out of a package and the rice was junk. Spicy Salmon hand roll was pretty lousy too. I won’t be back. Service was pretty bad considering I was the only one in the restaurant.

Every time I would drive down Lincoln Blvd, I would always see Yuni and it was always a place I wanted to try. I finally got my chance, and I can safely say I was VERY pleased. We got there around 5pm and there were only a few other people in the restaurant but they left shortly after we got there, so we ended up having the whole place to ourselves. The chef and waiter were both great guys, and very friendly. We were seated right away at the bar and drink orders taken immediately. We ordered some Edamame beans to eat while we looked over the menu and they came out right away nice and hot sprinkled with salt. We were also given a wood block with ginger, wasabi, and cucumber slices(that were seasoned with vinegar and suger, and really quite good) We ordered 4 Rolls, a Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll, which came out in a square bowl topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo, and was probably the best Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll I’ve ever had, and I will go back just for that. We also got a Philly Roll, which was average but good, an eel roll, which was very good, and a Shrimp Tempura Roll topped with coconut shreds, which was also very good. The Philly, Eel, and Shrimp Rolls were all on there 50% off roll menu and under $ 4 each, and the Spicy Tuna was around $ 10, but very worth it in my honest opinion. I have to say that the overall atmosphere, quality of food, price, and friendliness of the staff made this one of the best sushi spots I’ve ever been to and I will be back a lot more often now!

Overall price and sushi was ok. The place was empty at 9pm when I went with a friend. I ordered snapper which was a bit on the chewy side, Albacore had sweet onion on top which I didn’t really understand. Ono was good, and yellow tail was a bit slimy. My friend ordered a lot of sushi and the bill came out to $ 48. Great deal but just ok on the food

My friend Casey introduced me to this place last year. I must say I was a little skeptical when we showed up, I was expecting something… not on Lincoln Blvd. After 5 minutes in the place, I realized I shouldn’t be so judgmental: this place is great! Everything on the menu is 50% off(of course, this means the prices are a little inflated but nothing atrocious). The people working there are super nice and friendly, our waitress and the sushi chefs were helpful and funny. The beer is cheap, so bring your friends(they don’t care if you get rowdy, for you saki bombers out there!). I have since been back about 5 times, and tonight actually got take out(quick and easy but she did recommend if I didn’t want to wait the 10 mins I could call ahead next time). The sashimi is really good and they give you a lot for the price, and they also have some creative rolls that I have tried and liked, along with the basics which were solid. Never been disappointed with what they brought out! All in all, she isn’t the prettiest girl at the prom, but its really good and a fun little underground scene. The place is never packed, there are usually seats at the sushi bar for 2. Not good for special occasions(if this is your friends last meal before they move to Detroit… not the best option) but it is a perfect choice for a cheapish weeknight dinner or a fun weekend night with friends. Disclaimer: If you are a sushi expert/snob and prefer to only eat at places like Sushi Roku and Katsuya, please disregard this review. Also, you suck.

I don’t know much about sushi, but this place is very close to my apt so I decided to check it out with a friend. Don’t let the 50% off signs in the window deter you, this is a good value sushi restaurant. I had my staples: Eel roll($ 3.99) Spicy Tuna($ 4.99) and tried something they called ‘Monkey Brain Tempura’($ 4.95). The rolls were very thick and generous in portion size. I can’t really describe the monkey brain tempura other than it like little pockets of awesome, dipped in tempura batter & fried, then cut in half and served atop a bed of stringy vegetable. Like I said, I don’t know much about sushi(otherwise I’d probably be able to describe the ingredients better) but I enjoyed Yuni and will bring people back.

After rehearsing with a new band in orange county, I stopped here after a long drive back. I got the beef udon and a Sapporo. The noodles were tasty. There was not that much beef though. The atmosphere is kind of strange. The restaurant could be a little cleaner. There were mainly male waiters too. I would describe it like a Japanese sports bar. The clientele was not very diverse-mainly young couples when I went… Ironically, there were a couple Japanese bunnies for decoration.

Used to be a big fan when the prices were cheaper. They always have a half price sign in their window, but it is still expensive when the prices are very high. Good sushi, but you can find better for the price. I would order about 5 simple rolls and 10 orders of nigiri ad it would come out to $ 30 — $ 40. Thick cuts, good rolls. Now I pay way more than that for the same order since they raised their prices. I loved this place while it was affordable, I hate to say goodbye.

What to do when you’re in a town both you and your friend know very little about? Unilocal! Unilocal! I was hankering for some sushi as we were in L.A. and didn’t want to go overboard. What we did want though was something fresh, good and fast. We were not disappointed with Yuni. Surrounding the area is a dirge of neighborhood bars of the British pub/dive bar/chicken bowl nature so it gives Yuni an advantage in the area. We had prompt service, a bounty of explanation of the specials and friendly smiles. Though I do agree that the whole 50% off gig is rather silly, I’m certain most of you Unilocalers can figure out the deal. It’s half off people!!! Me and my buddy each had their dinner sampler to see what the spectrum was like and we were both pleased with the tuna, salmon, California rolls and eel they served. The tuna was okay, not the best though. The salmon was fine. The eel was good as well. Their California rolls were seriously some of the better that I’ve had anywhere. We got out of there for under $ 50 for two people with beer. To me, in L.A., that’s pretty good and exactly what we were aiming for. We wanted to save our loot for some drinks. Would I go back? Yes. If I’m in the area.

Went there for lunch based on the good reviews on here. Hide is our standard place for more expensive sushi and Niko Niko for regular affordable sushi. We saw this shared on another review and thought it helpful to share because in order to judge someone’s opinions of sushi, you need to know if you have the same standards. We arrived just before lunch ended and had a friendly waiter. Unfortunately, he couldn’t seem to speak for anything on their menu and simply gave us «whatever you’d like» as a reply to what he thinks would be best — not helpful. We ordered crab rangoon, salmon nigri, ono nigri, albacore roll, lettuce wrap, salmon teriyaki and tempura bento box! As you can see from our order, we were hungry and expecting to FEAST! Instead, we found ourselves eating frozen salmon and ono, dried albacore roll, and mediocre lettuce wrap. The waiter ordered chicken teriyaki instead of salmon teriyaki, so he apologized and let us keep the chicken while we waited for the salmon to come out. The chicken was SKETCHY as far as quality. There were one or two discernible bites and the rest were fleshy and chewy. When the salmon teriyaki finally came out, we were presented with two chunzy slivers of salmon inundated with teriyaki sauce. The miso soup was watery and didn’t even have tofu or seaweed. Tempura and 4 piece california roll were the highlights of our meal. That doesn’t say too much of a sushi restaurant. We took the sketchy chicken and chunzy salmon teriyaki left overs for our dog, and apparently, he wasn’t too impressed either(he took a couple bites and left it). We’re not sure if this was a one off experience or if we ordered the wrong items, but we certainly don’t plan on returning to figure it out.

I am sorry but this place was pretty bad. Not as bad as Fukui but almost. The 50% price gives you a sort of a feeling of oks… This is korean owned and simply said — koreans cannot make sushi. Period. So I am not coming back.

I went on a spree where I only ate at different 50% off sushi places alllll over the Westside and this one, just barely, ranked #1. I like the salmon roll and the cheap Sapporo thats on tap. Their perplex rolls are not as cheap so I dont really go that route. i figure if i were to spend a bunch of money on sushi then I’ll go to a super-bomb place like Noma or Nobu. The albacore is a bit too fishy for me causing me to wonder about things like where it came from. … fresh vs. frozen…

Half price sushi is like a half price parachute, by the time you figure out it was a bad deal it’s too late! That’s what I told a friend who suggested Yuni for dinner. Knowing me well, he upped the ante with $ 2.95 Sapporo’s and the game was on; Eating cheap warm sushi and drinking lots of cheap brew while avoiding a hospital visit! Fun! Round 1 consisted of quail egg shooters($ 4.80) and albacore sashimi($ 6.45). Tasty enough and quite acceptable albacore. Oh, and another round of beers please. Round 2 was a warm Inari($ 3.15) and, Oh, and another round of beers?, OK! By now I was getting used to the weird seat in the middle of the bar which denied me the pleasure of enjoying the company of any more than one person. Oh well, on to Round 3, Fresh Eel($ 3.15) and the really plump baked mussels(blurry here), so plump in fact that I overheard some comments about the lower part of the female anatomy. Another Sapporo — Please!!! In Round 4 I was hit with the Yellowtail collar punch. My legs felt like lead as I ordered another round of beers but the Yellowtail($fuzzy) was delicious. The knock our punch came in the 5Th. Baked spicy Lobster roll($ 11.20) put me away with the nutty and subtly spiced flesh. As they put me on the stretcher to haul me off the canvas I ordered a hot Sake for medicinal purposes. The Judges ruled a win by Yuni. Good food and drink for a small charge. As long as it’s 50% off, and I can stay out of the hospital, I’ll be back for more. Just kiding about the hospital part, my buddy eats lunch there several times a week since they opened and he’s fine, physically at least.

FabulouS!!! Decoration might be average, but their food is great! I love everything about their food. Sashimi is very fresh, and their sushi is delicious. Since I love trying different Japanese restaurants, freshness is a very important factor to me. Yuni’s yellowtail and salmon melt at the tip of my tongue. They are just sensationaL. i love ordering Yellowtail lover rolls and dynamite rolls whenever I visit. Another roll which I really enjoy, yet I do not recall the name has jalapeño and cream cheese in it. I don’t remember the name, but they should know if you mention the ingredients.(i took a picture of it and uploaded it.) Since I work nearby, I have been a regular customer there. I’ve been going there for about three months now, and I haven’t been disappointed by their food or service. Location is just awesome~ Lincoln + Bay(or…Pico). It’s a bit hard to see the restaurant from one side, but you’ll see it. Bay is the exact street that crosses Lincoln. If you are looking for a Japanese restaurant in Santa Monica area, I strongly recommend this restaurant to you.

I gave this place a try after a girlfriend told me to go. Lunch was good but I would recommend this place to people who like cooked rolls, fried tempura rolls and the like. I happen to like more authentic Japanese sushi… I despise what my friend ordered and liked… a roll with salmon and cream cheese. eww Yuni doesn’t sound Japanese… what is it?

Have you ever had that day where you didn’t think it couldn’t get much worse? Well, that was my day today. So I walked over to Yuni Sushi for lunch and pulled up a seat at the. Since it was my first time I ordered a couple of my favorites — California hand roll, and a cut Philly roll with no salmon(just avocado and cream cheese). Both of these were delish. While I was devouring these I got into a discussion about fish with one of the sushi chefs, and the fact that I don’t like it raw, and we talked about how he has a hard time making rolls for his vegan/vegetarian customers, so the next thing I know he was making a special veggie roll. His specialty veggie roll — which I call the veggie tangy roll — is tofu, cream cheese, avocado, sprouts, in a roll that is dipped in tempura and fried and topped with a sweet soy sauce and a tangy mayonnaise. It is to die for. The first words out of my mouth after taking a bite were — holy shit this is good! So the question is, am I going back — oh yea, and bringing all of my veggie co-workers with me!

I was saddened to see Lincoln Bay Restaurant close. Their food was always well prepared and tasty. However, I was intrigued by the possibility of having a good Japanese restaurant so close to Samohi. This place doesn’t deliver. It they did, Rena and I would order more often. Call your order in, if you aren’t going to eat in their tastefully decorated restaurant. Right now, they have a 50% off sushi and rolls. I’m not sure how much longer that will last. Be prepared to eat, if you order. The amount of food they give borders on ridiculous. A typical lunch combination(bento) is $ 8.95 for a salad(with a light sweet and slightly tangy dressing), rice, miso soup, tempura and some sort of teriyaki. The tempura is light and not greasy. Their miso soup is rich. The 50% discount is back, though quality is a little down(6÷11÷07) We have stopped ordering from here, as the quality has dropped dramatically. Go to Ninjin. Highlights: salad, tempura, any teriyaki(except spicy chicken)
