Good food and service. The gnocchi spinach ricotta was awesome. The pizza was also good. To finish off you have to try the chocolate cake with the gelato it was to die for.

Asked a local shop for a good place to have lunch and was recommended to eat there . The place is located in the heart of town and our server was extremely great and so we’re the butlers the food tasted authentic. I had my first neopolitan pizza and was extremely satisfied the flavors were great I also requested a egg on my pizza. Great choice. My wife ordered a pasta dish, the pasta was a bit on the bland side but the rest of the dish tied well together. All in all I would eat there again. Definitely get the pizza.

The first disappointing meal I’ve had during our visit to Sausalito. Pizza arrived with charred crust. Had it not been so late and that i was starving I would have sent it back. More disappointing was the fact that not once did anyone even bother to ask how the food was. For the price I would expect better.

I had mixed feelings about the food and restaurant. We had a group dinner for six people for GOW members last Friday night. We had to wait about fifteen minutes despite reservations for 7:45PM. The bathroom is inconveniently located outside on the second floor via elevator. I ordered the grilled quail(28) and it was so charred that every bite was bitter despite the bird being perfectly cooked. I tried my friend’s meatloaf and it was tasty but too light and unsubstantial. You get two very thin slices of meatloaf on top of polenta(20). I also tried their chicken liver on toast(9) and it was very sweet but good. I had their gem lettuce salad and it was very good too. For dessert, I had their buffalo gelato with bittersweet chocolate flourless cake(8) but the cake was so sweet that I couldn’t even taste the chocolate. It was the worse flourless chocolate cake I ever had despite the custardy texture. Overall, the food was very hit or miss. The tab came out to about 300 dollars but I was a bit disappointed. The restaurant was so dark that I could hardly see(more candles needed?) and the young blonde woman who worked in front of their restaurant was inexperienced and seemed unfriendly.

Having just moved to Sausalito in April, my girlfriend and I were really looking forward to trying this place. She went in and ordered their pappardelle pasta dish and a salad with the hostess. She received excellent service both from her and the bartender, Tony. $ 32 later, we get home to see that the pasta entrée is comically small. Like, seriously laughable. It’s literally less food than the salad ordered with it. So she calls the restaurant to see if there was a mix up — apparently there’s an appetizer version of the same dish, so we presumed we received that serving size by mistake. After getting the manager on the line to discuss the problem, he simply said, «Yea we measure our portions, it’s right.» And that was it. No bother to clarify that they have small portions, or offering any way to amend our discontent. Needless to say it was not a good experience, so we won’t try this place again.

I haven’t dined at this restaurant or sampled much of the menu, but I am a hardcore neapolitan pizza fan, and goodness gracious, do they get it right. Get some pizza here, it is 100% worth the effort. Get a few, and reheat them for breakfast(with a fried egg), lunch, and dinner for a couple days. Get a margarita if you’re a purist like me. They used excellent prosciutto if you’re a fan. The dough is fantastic, you can tell it is made with high quality flour and fermented slowly, the sauce is perfectly seasoned and simple, the char is beautiful, the toppings are of great quality. It is very difficult for me to find fault in this pizza, and I’m highly critical of basically everything, so much to the point that I have accrued a collection of hate mail on Unilocal.I have sampled it multiple times over the last few months, and it is officially the best pizza in Marin County, consistently. There are definitely some amazing contenders in the bay area, but Poggio’s is completely on par with them. In fact, I might say I like them better, because they do a bit more char on the crust than most others, however that is a personal preference. I also decided to try the lobster roe pasta with head-on prawns. Pasta perfectly cooked, prawns were beautiful. It needed a touch of parmesan cheese, a simple supplement, plus some black pepper and chili flakes(I really like my heat), but what a sumptuous plate of pasta that I highly recommend ordering if it’s on the menu. I also tried the fire roasted meatballs. Though a little inconsistently cooked, that wood fired flavor sets them apart from most. Extremely tasty. If they made a meatball sammy, I’d probably get one every week. I admit though, I’m more a fan of the A16 style meatball(with ricotta, pancetta and/or back fat, pork, and a heap of spices), but they ain’t wood fired like this. There is just something magical about food cooked with fire. If I could install a wood fired oven into my apartment, you better believe I would. I will keep frequenting this place, even if only for that perfect margarita pizza. Thank you Poggio’s for being a standout in a county that has succumbed to lackluster food!

It’s not about the food. It’s about the service!!! The waiter recommend veal before we start to order. But I said I want the ribeye steak. Then the waiter said if you want the ribeye, you’d better get the veal. Then I’m thinking maybe these two dishes are similar, but he veal just tasting better. Then I said, ok let me get the veal. Later on, when I see the veal dish, I’m totally pissed off! It is NOT a steak like dish! It’s a fried chop! When your customer is looking for a steak, you said a fried chop is much better, it is NOT right!!! What makes me feel even worse is when the waiter come back ask how do we like our food, my friend told him I’m not happy with the food. The waiter said«oh, it’s a misunderstanding», then quickly walked away. That is how you treat your customer when they say they are not happy with their food?! Really bad dining experience!!!

Made reservations since we were going out the Friday before Valentine’s Day. The place was PACKED at 8 p.m., but we waited probably less than 10 minutes before we were seated. First off, our service was great. Our waiter, although really busy, had a great attitude and made enough time to make us not feel rushed. Our drinks were good, too. It made us happy that our waiter actually had knowledge about the alcohol behind the bar when we had questions about the whiskey. We definitely didn’t expect that at a regular restaurant. We ordered meatballs, some sort of past dish with bacon, and the quail. I was so disappointed in the pasta dish. So bland! Definitely did not satisfy my Italian needs. However, the quail was really good and the meatballs were fine(not my favorite kind of dish in general, but the hubby seemed happy). All in all, the food was good but nothing standout or spectacular. There wasn’t a real depth of flavor, and I feel like that is kind of the point of Italian food. I’d maybe bring my parents back, but I’ll try some other places first.

I loved it. Great service, delicious food, delightful wine. I had the Minestra Soup, the margarita(easily enough for two) pizza and a glass of barbera.

My husband and I enjoyed a really tasty meal here tonight. It has a lovely atmosphere and although the style of the décor is semi-old fashioned, it feels chic and is tasteful with solid wood finishes, mirrors, table cloths etc. The food was yummy — we both had the vitello tonnato to start which came with delicious fried capers, not a ton of sauce, which was good as the sauce can often be heavy. I really enjoyed the clam linguine with bottarga– a little salty but just the right amount of oil/bottarga for moisture. The pasta was perfectly cooked and way better than most pasta I’ve had in North Beach — refined rather than thick and heavy. My husband said his sole was excellent, and we both thought the broccoli was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great food, lovely place — well worth a visit. And the service was great.

We’ve been here for brunch years ago, and came in again recently for appetizers and a drink. We sat at the bar and it was still pretty hard to get the attention of a server/bartender. The appetizers we had were tasty, but my vodka and club soda came with flat club soda and hubby’s coffee was burnt and had flakes of grounds in it. Prices were good and the ambiance is hard to beat.

Went in for our anniversary dinner last night and was pleased. When I made the reservation I mentioned it would be for our anniversary dinner, and upon being seated we were treated to two glasses of champagne :) The restaurant was plenty busy on a Saturday night, but it seemed there were a few bar tables open if one came in last minute. Service was good– we had a charming Italian waiter and he cracked a few jokes about marriage for us. Everything was very prompt without feeling rushed– and we never ran out of beverages! For drinks I had a half bottle of the Mt. Veeder Cab to myself(don’t judge!), and it wasn’t my favorite. I found it to be a little sweet and sour instead of the earthy undertones I associate with a cab. For starters we split the pear salad– and they split the order for us. This was my favorite as the vinaigrette was light and delicious. For seconds I had the francobolli with peas and it was tasty, but nothing amazing. Hubs had the orichette, and again, good flavor but not mind blowing. Lastly, we finished with the berry fruit crisp with vanilla gelato, and that was of course fantastic. Overall, I have nothing to complain about this place, but it wasn’t a dinner to rave about either. I think Poggio makes for a lovely date night!

This review has nothing to do with the food. Normally I’m not one of those who revels in complaining, but for a restaurant that was highly suggested by the concierge from our hotel, I was pretty bummed. Our waiter seemed completely uninterested in our presence. I have a feeling it was because he suggested a wine or cocktail and we declined. Not everyone wants to drink alcohol with their food– geez. We asked for water and he did not seem impressed with our request. It took him a good 25 minutes to come back around and ask if we wanted an appetizer or hell, bread. Finally we flagged him down for complementary bread and decided to immediately order our food since we didn’t want to wait any longer for him to come around a second time. We noticed a more friendly waitress at another table across from us and wished we had her. We kept wondering if he thought we weren’t worthy of his time. Was it because we were slightly under dressed? I did walk in with a Giants jersey… but that shouldn’t have been the reason. Either way, I highly doubt we’ll return. The food was spectacular. Our waiter was not.

The best mash potatoes and tasted chicken hands down! I love coming here for their delicious variety of food. The food is very healthy and Poggio is a lovely/romantic/just hangout atmosphere. My sister and I order wine and have a lovely meal here pretty often and we never get tired. For breakfast they offer amazing oatmeal, muffins and croissants plus their coffee is amazing. I would recommend their incredible pizzas as well. They are very delicious and unique! So good, so delicious, so much try!

Poggio, which I learned comes from the Italian translation for«a special hillside place,» is truly a gem of a restaurant. It does not feel like your typical hotel restaurant at all. Unless you were staying there, you’d barely even notice. Almost every morning we were staying in the hotel, we came here we got at least one of the pastries, with the cranberry scone and bran muffin being my favorites. For a more savory route, the ham and baked egg breakfast sandwich, made with sourdough bread, is also a solid choice. Coffee, available in more than one size, can be ordered for there or to go. Now, of all the nights we were visiting here, our dinner here was at the top. Delicious Italian-inspired dishes, featuring with fresh, seasonal and locally grown ingredients and prepared beautifully. The wine selection was large without being over the top and we were able to order a bottle for the three of us that complimented our meal perfectly. Our server was friendly and gave us a great overview of the menu, pointing out his and other restaurant goers’ favorites. Here’s what we ordered: — Appetizers: Sformatino(a sweet corn soufflé-like custard), Barbabietola(salad with roasted beet, goat cheese, mache, fried shallots and pumpkin seeds) and Mista(salad with baby lettuces, carrot, cucumber, zucchini and haricot verts) — Entrees: Grilled king salmon(with corn, chanterelle mushrooms and watercress), Gnudi(spinach ricotta pillows, similar to gnocchi, with beef ragu and parmigiano reggiano) and Francobolli(a porcini filled pasta, like a ravioli, with fava beans, corn, cherry tomatoes, and grana padano cheese) — Dessert: Crema de Limon, shared between the three of us, which had the right balance of tart and sweet. A perfect ending! One of the greatest take-aways we each had at the end of the meal was how comforting and satisfying it was without feeling heavy or overly rich. Our dinner here met every expectation with its beautiful location and décor, attentive service, and excellent food. Whether you are staying in Sausalito for vacation or just in town for the day, visiting Poggio is a MUST!

Another update, I’m on a roll tonight! I will never forget how generous and hospitable they were to us Unilocalers when they hosted an event here. They rolled out the red carpet for us. Therefore, I had to support them as a loyal dining patron when they hosted my son’s school on a Wednesday evening. Way to go Poggio, it’s all about the kids! I made our reservation for 6 p.m. and found out from other parents the place was fully booked for the evening and couldn’t take any more reservations, which is great news if any of you watch«Mother Funders» on Bravo LOL! I’m not one of those moms, but I sure can rally up some parents if it means supporting our local school(s). My son’s school earned 20% of all receipts for the night and what a delicious way to support our school =) Of course hubby couldn’t make it due to work, but my son & I had a nice dinner, and he hung out with his classmates briefly, as he had homework to do. They have a kids’ menu now, and their cheese pizzas are enormous. I ordered the large savory Fregola pasta with bay scallops, clams, rock shrimp, mussels, and fines herbs. Our server Adrian was on point despite a packed house. For dessert, my son had the vanilla scoop, and I ordered the decadent Bunet. We couldn’t have asked for a more spectacular weeknight out for a great cause — awesome turnout! Thank you for your support Poggio, and let’s make this an on-going tradition!

You haven’t truly experienced Poggio until you’ve enjoyed a Tony Negroni. One of these stiff cocktails will help you get in the mood. I came in here the other night for happy hour. The bar is super chic & classy(but not in a stuffy way). My friend and I saddled up at a two-top and ordered Tony’s famous Negroni(named after the celebrity resident bartender). Tony happened to be working the bar that evening. He’s an affable character — always quick with a smile and a handshake. It’s as though he’s truly glad to see you. His namesake cocktail is equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari. It’s perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, not too bitter. Very potent! It’s the perfect beverage for unwinding after a long day. After a few sips, all your day’s troubles will disappear. Poggio offers a variety of tasty Italian bites to pair with your drinks. I’m a big fan of their thin-crust Pizza Margherita($ 13) and their Salsiccia Pizza($ 16). They’re meant for sharing, but after a few bites, you’ll be fighting with your friends over the last slice. The restaurant also boasts a mouthwatering Antipasti menu, with such items as: veal & pork meatballs, grilled beef tongue with horseradish crème fraîche and potatoes, melt-in-your-mouth Burrata, and Carne Cruda(thinly sliced kobe beef, summer truffle, shallot, capers, quail egg, crostini). Each dish is a winner. In fact, I’ve never had a dish I didn’t like here. Chef Benjamin Balesteri clearly knows what he’s doing. And judging by the packed house, people seem to appreciate the fruits of his kitchen’s labour. I look forward to returning here soon. Poggio remains one of Marin’s finest trattorias. And it’s a great spot to visit after returning from the Sausalito Ferry. Keep up the great work, guys!

It was a nice sunny day Sunday, so we decided to extend«check please bay area» tour. Got into the new car and drove out to Sausalito. Plenty of parking on the street and parking lot’s around the quaint little town. We arrived at Poggio at 6:50 pm and asked the host about a table. She said the wait was about 30 min. So we put our name in and strolled around till 7:30. Poggio was packed including the bar. We saw a couple of Bloody Mary’s being ordered and we ordered some when we sat down, excellent. Here is the food ordered: Grilled Artichokes 4 stars the aioli sauce was bland Veal and Pork Meatballs 4 stars served with a marinara Monterey Squid 5 stars served on bed of greens and fennel Squid Ink Pasta w/shrimp 3.5 stars the pasta was good the shrimp was not as fresh as it could be. Proscutto Pizza 4 stars good Poggio was packed on Sunday night and food service was a bit slow, but since we were not in a hurry the experience was good. $ 104 before tip.

Stumbled across Poggio right before closing after a day long sailing trip. It was the only restaurant that was open, and the nicely set tables and dim lighting beckoned us from the cold. The waitstaff welcomed us with open arms even though it was minutes from closing. We came with low expectations but left full and completely satisfied in all aspects. Veal Vitello: A+ Poached thin sliced veal, fried capers, tonnato sauce, frisee, lemon. Veal was fresh and sliced to the perfect thickness. Seasoned to perfection and decent portion. Lobster & Burrata: A The burrata was delicious. The poached lobster was a pleasant surprise. I think that the portions for this could have been a little bigger. Funghi Pizza: A+ Maitake mushrooms, crescenza, stinging nettle, garlic, farm egg. Traditional thin crust. So much umami flavor. Texture was just right. Salame Pizza: A– Sopressata picante, mozzarella, castelvetrano olives, tomato, oregano. Traditional thin crust. The funghi pizza really stole the show but this was a solid contender. Too much moisture from the mozzarella. Shrimp Tagliatelle: A– Squid ink pasta, shrimp, tomato, green garlic, chili, basil. Pasta was still cooked to a nice al dente. However, a tad overseasoned. Oxtail Parpardelle: A++++ Perfect mixture of rustic charm. Red wine braised oxtail ragu, grana padano. Oxtail was cooked perfectly. Decadent amount of fattiness. Parpardelle came in generous portions and was the definition of a perfect al dente. Stole the show for the night. Overall, a great night with great food. Extensive wine list as well and great service.
