Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. They have a lot of «older» flavors but also some delicious combination flavors that rotate on a monthly basis. All ice cream is homemade in the store using the family’s original recipe from 1919. They also have the original soda fountain from that time as well. A must visit in Savannah!

The Pros– Good rich ice cream and awesome décor with movie props and movie posters. The Con– Insane wait in line when I went or even drove past the joint. So if you are killing time and don’t mind the wait, I say fight the crowd and enjoy. If I evaluate the ice cream alone and being honest, I like Brusters better.

I am from Vermont. I remember Ben and Jerrys when it was good. I like ice cream. I eat some every day. Well Leopold’s is the best ice cream I have ever had anywhere. They make it right there. It shows. Try the ginger, it’s strong! They grow it literally by my house here in Savannah!(you have to ask for it, it’s ‘unofficial’) Also the 50s atmosphere and service are well done, and sincere, and darn if isn’t 5 out of 5 and I am not an easy rater, I only bother to rate amazing things. Maybe one day I’ll balance with not so good but for now I want to show support for the best ice cream maybe in the country. Still family owned. The line moves quick. It is worth it. If you are in Savannah and like ice, check this place out.

Yes, the line is worth the wait. It might be a tourist trap but it’s still a favorite ice cream spot for the locals. From chocolate raspberry to pistachio to dark chocolate, everything is great here. You can taste as many flavors as you want before you choose the one you want in your waffle cone or the cup. Single scoops cost $ 4.50, double scoops around $ 5.50 and the sundaes are around $ 7-$ 9. They also have the option of getting a kids scoop($ 2.50) and is a perfect size if you are too full after the dinner and would still like to try the ice cream. A little expensive overall but you get what you pay for. To beat the heat, they also serve water while you wait in the line, great example of an awesome customer service. They also give you the menu to look at while you wait. Water is also available inside near the cashier. I totally recommend this place to anyone, whether local or tourist.

historical and friendly… i love ice cream and wanted to love this place but it was just okay. i found the consistency to be weird — the ice cream was almost fluffy. i’m sure that’s why many love it but i prefer heartier ice cream i guess. i got the lemon ice cream and the flavor was good. atmosphere was very old school and almost like a movie set. i would maybe visit again to try the food.

Crazy good ice cream flavors of high quality deliciousness with a cool old fashioned ambiance. Great service, we were free to sample ice creams before we decided. Everything we tried was pure awesomeness and we selected the peanut butter in a cone and a chocolate ice cream float. I have been eating floats all of my life and I know a good one and this one was expertly made! Often they don’t have enough ice cream but not this one – it was perfect! This ice cream was so good that I might have gotten another if the line hadn’t wrapped around the block.

Oh my. This is what I was waiting for all weekend and wow! Great Scotts the line was long but once you have that first creamy bite you understand why! Absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come wait in line again. I got the Rum Bisque and Chocolate Chewie & Cream. My fiancée got Chocolate and Vanilla. All the flavors were fantastic. Jasmine helped me pick out a second flavor and she was spot on with the choice. See you soon Leopold’s.

The line is well outside the store, and on a hot summer day, it’s worth the wait. The staff at this place is pretty amazing. While we waited in line a staff member walked around with water and menus to keep those of us baking in the sun cool. He saw a puppy and even got the dog a bowl of water and some ice cream! All and all, the staff made this place. But the ice cream! I had a dark chocolate and raspberry ice cream cone, and it was perfect. The chocolate wasn’t overly sweet and blended with the raspberries perfectly. If definitely suggest this iconic shop as a must if you visit Georgia.

When I travel, I always like to ask, «If I had only one day in your city, where should I go to eat?». Of all of the people I asked, Leopold’s was always mentioned. Is this the greatest ice cream in the world? No, but it is a Savannah institution and more of an experience. What Leopold’s has going for it: + Minus the cones and 1 or two ice creams, all flavors are gluten free(sadly not casein free, but you have to live a little) + Efficiency– The staff runs this place like a well oiled machine. Yes, the line can get ridiculous, but they move the people through. I like that they had someone handing out menus prior to ordering, so that helped expedite the line +Staff– This young crew was professional, friendly, organized, and worked as a team + Seating– the inside has a separate sitting area with quite a few tables; however, they can still be hard to come by, and it is on the noiser side. There are a handful of tables outside as well + Additional menu options– they serve coffee and other food items as well, although, those are not GF. + Late hours– open to 11 during the week and until midnight on the weekend.

Not the best ice cream I’ve ever had, but pretty dang wonderful. Things to know: ***** I. LOCATION&PARKING If you’re using Google Maps, it’s really easy to find. It’s on the corner of Abercrom and East Broughton, and the brick and mortar is well labeled. II. ICECREAM Even though they have soups, sandwiches, and beverages, visitors should only visit Leopold’s for their various ice creams. They’re made with real cream, have the ideal amount of sweetness, and the consistency is beautifully thick like a curvy woman. My lady and I tried the chocolate chocolate(I think that’s what it was called) and their cookies and cream. Both were decadent and delicious. III. SERVICE They had a group of kids working behind the counter, and they were super nice. No problems here. IV. AMBIENCE&DÉCOR The walls are covered with really cool and rare movie memorabilia. Even though I don’t know most of the movie posters, like The Big Chill or Tank, it’s still pretty cool to check out. They also have one of those coin flatteners that are usually found at museums. There are two to four person tables scattered throughout the inside. V. PRICES Very reasonable: +Double Scoop: $ 4.75 +Single Scoop: $ 3.75 +Child’s Scoop: $ 2.75 +Hand Packed Pint: $ 7.75 VI. OVERALL I wouldn’t necessarily wait in line to eat this ice cream, but I would definitely go during off hours to check it out. I’d say it’s a must if you’re in Savannah for the first time.

We went to this ice cream place 3 days in a row, basically the length of our stay in Savannah and each and every flavor we tried was awesome. I was initially nervous about this being a tourist trap but nope. Pure awesomness. There was a line out the door when we first visited but the servers are pretty fast and have a good system in place so you wont be standing in line too too long. So, we got the almond and cream, cherry blossom, ginger, peanut butter, chocolate chocolate, pistachio, chocolate raspberry swirl, coffee, and lemon custard. I personally loved the ginger, pistachio and almond and cream. The only disappointment was the caramel swirl, would have liked a bit more caramel. I am so happy we dont live in Savannah or I would have diabetes and a 200lb husband

After waiting in line for over 30 minutes, I’m not sure the ice cream warrants all of the 5 star reviews. Yes, it was good, but it certainly wasn’t the best ice cream I’ve ever had, and waiting out in the hot sun is not so fun. The staff is terrific though. They bring out ice water to offer to those standing out in the line, and they were very patient with sample requests from everyone. Service is quick once you reach the counter. I had the caramel and the peanut butter chippy. Hubby had the lemon custard and the strawberry. He raved about the strawberry, but said the lemon custard had little to no taste. Of course the teen loved her chocolate. The waffle cones were nice and crisp, and help up for the entire time unlike some that get soggy. They offer your fur babies a small cup with a treat and a bit of vanilla which was nice. Will we go back? Possibly, if the line is not out the door and all the way to the corner as it was for us on our visit.

My coffee flavored ice cream was good but the exciting part of my visit was the waffle cone… The waffle cone was really good, trust me when i say that not ALL waffle cones are created equal but mine was really good here! I will return again when I’m in Savannah, GA the. next time.

We waited in line for about 45 minutes, but it was worth it. The ice cream was great and the flavors were really fun and interesting. The prices were pretty affordable as well.

Flashback to the 60s! This ice cream parlor was such a crowded and fun place. The line started way outside the store, but my group and I managed to kill time by looking at the extensive menu. Once we were inside, I sampled the chocolate raspberry, and the rich chocolate-y flavor just blew me away. I also spent a lot of time admiring the posters as the interior is wonderfully designed. My friends each pressed a souvenir penny, which was fun. A quick warning: the jukebox was broken, so don’t toss any coins into it.

Fine ice cream! I was just planning on sneaking a taste of my little lady’s selection, but after they offered me a sample i decided to double scoop some mint choc chip and some peppermint. In general i am not an ice cream lover, but this is good stuff.

Leopold’s is a must stop if you are in the Savannah area. You know that Savannah gets extremely humid in the summer months and Leopold’s is the perfect fix for this. It will get you out of the sun and put some delicious ice cream in your belly that will further cool you down. I have been to Leopold’s twice now and will inevitably go back every time that I visit Savannah. The atmosphere is really cool. The owner of Leopold’s, Stratton Leopold is a movie producer. I think one of his most popular movies is Mission Impossible III. The cinematic theme can be found throughout Leopold’s. There are movie posters lining the walls and an old hollywood feel with old cameras and gadgets. The ice cream is homemade and is prepared using the technique and recipe passed down through the Leopold family for generations. This shows up in the flavor. The bad news is that this place is so popular that there is nearly always a line going out the door. The good news is that while you’re in line you can sample as much ice cream as you want, within reason. They have some less traditional flavors such as coffee and southern pecan as well as the classics. My go to is the Old Fashioned Sundae. Leopold’s is worth the wait. Whether it’s just a warm day and you want to go enjoy your ice cream in one of the many Savannah parks or it’s a blistering hot day where Leopold’s pumping AC is a welcome addition to your life, don’t skip out on this Savannah classic.

It’s cold outside, yet we’re making a line to get ice cream after spending 20 minutes looking for parking… this better be Good! Those were the thoughts in my head while standing in the long yet fast moving line in front of the famous Leopold’s ice cream shop. Once again Unilocal was on point. The ice cream was fabulous, accompanied by some hot chocolate for the walk back to the car. A group of us went so I got to try several flavors. Mine was perfect, it was two scoops of Strawberry with pieces of pecans, and it was creamy with pieces of real strawberries and fresh pecans everywhere so good. My sister had a Honey Almond scoop with a Coffee Chocolate Chip scoop, both very rich and true to their flavor. My father had two scoops of Pistachio, every single scoop of the spoon was filled with fresh pistachio pieces, so delicious! The hot chocolate was creamy and topped with marshmallows also a delight. So yes make your line, the taste is worth the wait!
