You like to tell yourself that nothing is better than home cooking, but I’ve never made a plate of barbecue as good as the Hog Wild Platter from the SandFly. Every item was cooked to perfection: moist, flavorful, tender without being mushy… It was amazing. My early favorite was the sausage that came on the plate, but the ribs were even better the next day when I had them for breakfast. Even the sauces here are superior. Top-notch experience all around. I look forward to coming back, and bringing friends and family with me. Thanks to Unilocal for a great recommendation

One of my favorite bbq restaurants in savannah! Love the sides. Perfect seasoning for the green beans and Mac and cheese. The quality of the meat is outstanding. Price is great as well. Glad to have this available near me

Newcomer to Savannah and Sand Fly alike. Checked the place out based on the reviews and was not disappointed. The staff was super friendly and it took us longer to figure out what we wanted then it did for them to make our food. Super quick service and the food was incredible. A little pricey — about $ 30 for two meals with drinks — but it’s high quality and you get a massive quantity — get what you pay for. 5⁄5 I will be going to Sand Fly again if I’m back in Savannah.

What a great treat to have such good food after a lovely afternoon walking around Wormsloe. Knew it would be great when the door opened to an amazing barbque aroma. Ordered the brisket platter to share with a side of collards and french fries. Fantastic food — brisket was perfect and the two sauces we tried were amazing. French fries were crisp and a great contrast. The collards could have been a bit hotter(temp, not spice), but were cooked perfectly. Definitely stop by on your way down here! There is even a small outside eating area your dog can share with you!

We are from Atlanta, ate at this place from previous reviewers. Agreed, great BBQ, great price. We had 9 in our party, the made a mistake with our order and they made it right and didn’t make us pay for it either. These are good people running this place. Also the food came out in 10min.

Great barbecue! Haven’t tried the other menu options, but the barbecue is always good and their fried okra is cooked to perfection! I make several batches of Brunswick stew every winter and always use barbecue from here– or try their homemade stew, it really is superb! If you’re lucky and they have coconut cake, get a piece– it’s some of the best you’ll ever have, decadent and moist and coconutty!

I love sandfly bbq. I eat here at least once a week. I almost always get a hamburger with French fries and a cup of Brunswick stew. I am not kidding when I tell you, the buddy boy burger is to die for!!! Like the best hamburger I’ve ever had. I also love the Mac and cheese. The employees are awesome too!

No better BBQ in Savannah! Sandfly BBQ offers anything you want. Their pork and ribs are outstanding. We also bought the smoked chicken which was very good on it’s own, but was a little too«smoked» when added to a dish the next day. Overall a fantastic choice. Even though the original Sandfly location has limited seating, it’s worth the wait.

Underwhelming BBQ. Ordered the Sampler platter. Overall lacking in smokiness. Brisket was very plain meat. Ribs were decent but again so little smoke flavor or complexity. Pulled pork and chicken were both ok. Maybe they just use gas and no wood? Can’t be good BBQ without real wood. Was really expecting more and left disappointed.

You cannot go wrong here. Everything made in house and it is so good. Get here early otherwise they run of out items.

We had our best meal on the road this week at this gem bbq diner. Quaint atmosphere and wonderful staffs. The platter for two was awesome and the oyster stout was outstanding! The food was so yummy that we bought two full racks, a platter and brisket to go! Will definitely come back here next time I’m in Savannah. Thanks again Margo for a wonderful meal!

I am currently siting at the back booth as I write this. I’ve ordered the pulled pork plate. The total was around 10-something, a so-so price for the quantity and quality of the food I received. The pulled pork is alright, honestly nothing special. The potato salad has a great flavor, but it has like, half red potatoes and seems to just be filler. No complaints on the Mac n cheese as it is wonderful. Don’t waste your money getting a 2.25 Coke, when the water is filtered and compliments the meal very well. this place is alright, but I wouldn’t go again unless I was invited.

We were in Savanah for a weekend but the reviews made us take some time to stop and eat here… so happy we did! Small and casual, just the way a locally owned bbq shop should be. We had ribs, shredded pork, burger, fries, beans and everything was perfection! My only complaint… it’s not closer to home!

OMG– Best Ribs I have ever had. This is a small place with tables inside & out. Very busy. Try the Brunswick stew. Stay away from the Mac & cheese & coleslaw sides.

Our favorite bbq spot in town! The pulled chicken and pork are amazing and my husband loves the ribs. The potato salad is to die for and we love the baked beans and green beans. The sauce has a spicy kick to it, so it might be to hot for some but they serve it in the side which is nice. Made a mistake of trying someone else this weekend who was raved about in magazines, big disappointment, so we will be sticking with our go to, Sandfly BBQ!

While visiting Savannah, we were on the hunt for some good old fashion southern BBQ. We saw the positive reviews for Sandfly on Unilocal so we decided to give it a shot. When we first arrived I was a bit surprised as its just a small hole in the wall place in a strip plaza. However, experience has taught me that these are usually the best kind of places. This is a counter service type restaurant and then the food is brought out to you at your table. I ordered the pulled chicken platter with baked beans and coleslaw. Also had to check out the local brew so I got a service IPA beer. The BF got sliced brisket with fries and mac n cheese. Of course we each had to take turns trying each others meals so we could have a bit of everything. Both of the meats were good, although the brisket was better than the chicken. They had 3 types of BBQ sauce on the table, but I only liked 1 of them. All the sides were good. The portions sizes were quite large. We both walked out of there stuffed. Overall I give it 4 stars. Definitely some of the best BBQ I’ve had in a while. Don’t let the appearance of the restaurant deter you from eating here.

Really wanted to like this place, especially being as close as it is to my mother’s place in Savannah, but only left with a meh impression. Food was ok, collards and green beans were tasty, and the pulled pork was ok(they were out of ribs by the time I showed up at noon, like seriously?). The brisket wasn’t very tender, the portions of pork and brisket both were only so so compared to some other places I frequent. Worst part of the visit was probably the condition of the place. I love a good hole in the wall place, but when the inside is kinda dirty. The tables/seats not wiped down real well, and flies buzzing around everywhere inside and out, well, maybe sandfly should take their namesake a little less seriously. I’ll stick to Wiley’s on the island for my Savannah bbq.

Sandfly BBQ was worth the long and winding drive from the tourist area in Savannah. The restaurant is tucked into a strip mall in the middle of the Sandfly neighborhood which was good since I was headed to a Sand Gnats game afterward! The place just screams Southern Barbecue with stickers all over the wall and a handwritten menu. Of course I had to try the Hog Wild with ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. The ribs were just awesome with great smoky flavor and texture along with great pulled pork. I was really impressed with the sausage. My sides were a good macaroni and cheese and the Brunswick Stew. I guess I just do not get the stew, but I am sure it is a good representation. Plenty of unsweet iced tea too. This is a great place for visitors and residents alike and worth the drive. You will be impressed and leave stuffed, happy, but stuffed!

Here’s some advice get here early or you may be disappointed because they may not have what you want. If you follow that step then you’ll be one happy camper because the bbq here is impeccable. This is the original location that made it possible for them to open a second location in the downtown area. The one thing you’ll immediately notice this that there’s Constant flow of people coming in which is a positive sign. This location like the other one isn’t that big so if you’ve got a crowd with you think about getting it to-go. Their bbq is great and it doesn’t have that overpowering smoke taste that some other joints have. The only reason I’m giving them 4 stars is because they were out of a few items but like I said in the beginning you’ve got to get here early. Next time I’ll listen to my own advice & do that too.

I’ve got to give credit where it’s due and Sandfly BBQ really pull out all the stops, from the excellent front of house service to the wonderful barbecue coming out of the kitchen, our take out meal was just about perfect. The two young women working at the front were very courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. I have to say, though, that«everything’s good» isn’t helpful for customers drowning in choices and looking for a bit of guidance. ;) The beef brisket and pulled pork sandwiches are excellent, as were the ribs and the pulled chicken. It was all very juicy and the sandwiches were paired with a dark red tomato-based sauce for the beef, and a sweet, tangy mustard-based sauce for the pork. The fat content on all of the above was right on the mark. As for the sides, the collard greens were very nice, and the onion rings were great. Our pleasure from the side dishes was slightly lessened by the mac and cheese, cole slaw and the fried okra, which could use some improvement. The mac and cheese had been cooked either too long or at too high a temperature, so the proteins had coagulated and become grainy. More starch in the cheese sauce can help this as well. The fried okra was under-seasoned. Okra really needs salt, and my feeing is that it should be part of the batter. Okra also likes a little chile powder. The cabbage in the cole slaw hadn’t been pre-salted to extract the water, so the cole slaw ended up being very soupy.
