A little, BIG shop… not a big store, but there is so much packed into this store: music from all ages, instructional books, some small gift items for musicians. If they don’t’ have it, they can order it for you! Staff is always polite and super helpful– they are willing to help research(i.e. does your violin instruction book come with a CD to play along with?). It’s a time machine, stepping back in here, in a good way. where else can I find Broadway sheet music, The Clarinet Polka and original ragtime scores that are from the 20’s.not re-printed– they are THAT old! Love it.

I grew up in Schenectady and visit family there. The store has been there a long time however not right in the location it is currently. I do enjoy going there and can find some interesting music for Duo, Trio, Quartet which are different and enjoyable. I generally have a good experience here. I don’t like to berate a long time family operated store which is of quality however I think from time to time when a customer they know for many years is there from out of town and finds a score or piece of music of interest and the price is a bit high… really out of loyalty to me as a customer who has been loyal they could offer a small discount on the piece of music which I was not able to purchase when there right after NY2015 because the«price was not right»!

It’s a real pleasure to find niche stores like this not only still in business, but by all appearances doing just as good a job as such stores did 100 years ago. Van Curler has sheet music and nothing but(OK, a few other musical items, but mostly sheet music). They’re well covered in piano and have many other instruments for which I’m not qualified to judge their depth, vocal, and a mixture of new and used/vintage. They also have a very nice supply of basic instructional books on hand. The staff know their stuff very well, and if they don’t have it, they’ll order it for you or find it, and that is not easy to do even with the internet in this particular realm. A local treasure, and located in the fun and VERY old school Proctor’s arcade, to boot.

Van curler music is THE place to go when you need sheet music. Whether you know exactly what you want, need some advice or can only hum a few bars, this is the place. Their selection spans classical to contemporary and if they don’t have it and you want it, they’ll get it. The atmosphere and service remind you of the music stores of years past. They even have a keyboard where you can try out the music. Want a perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon? Browse the stacks at Van Curler music. There are hidden gems in every aisle.

VanCurler is awesome. I love this shop! It’s located inside the Proctors Arcade, at the very end closest to the Lottery building(in other words, the side opposite of State Street). This is where I buy the vast majority of my sheet music. If they don’t have it in the shop, they can generally get it for you.
