NOTE: Not open anymore. Choo! Choo! Located at the corner of State Street and Laurel, the State Street Station 1579 is the epitome of a classic hometown diner with a railroad theme, housed in a converted rail car with parking alongside the building on Laurel. This little diner serves up breakfast(all day) and lunch daily and dinner Wed-Fri. Inside, the diner has a cozy and inviting atmosphere with counter stool seating and table seating along the windows and near the front door, kitchen in the back room. There are also classic pictures of rail cars and locomotives on the walls. The menu offerings include traditional breakfast dishes(eggs, omelettes, pancakes, French toast, hash, sausage gravy & biscuits), sandwiches(several named after rail cars), burgers, hot dogs, hand cut fries, salads, soups, and desserts. On Wednesday nights, Polish fare is served. On Thursday nights, German fare is served. Daily specials are offered featuring fried seafood platters and homestyle comfort dishes. The prices are fair, most items are priced under $ 10, I pulled into the«Station» for lunch around 1:30PM very recently. The place was not that busy on my visit with mostly regular patrons here, which the staff can be seen chatting with. I had the Steak Sandwich with Fries($ 8.95) for lunch. The food took about 12 minutes to be served after ordering. The food I had was very good. The hand cut fries were fried light brown and had a soft texture. The steak sandwich was big served hot and open face. This«pizzaiola» steak sandwich had plenty of thin grilled shaved steak with grilled peppers & onions and marinara sauce and topped with melted mozzarella cheese on a big toasted roll. The service was decent with the waitress checking up on me when my mouth was getting busy, «Is it good?» Of course(mouth full)! After lunch, a family at the next table was also about to leave and the staff activated the toy model train which rides on a circular track near the ceiling around the perimeter of the dining area, how cool is that! Overall, a good and filling lunch!
