We fled from Santa Cruz, away from the Memorial Day weekend craziness yesterday, looking for a place to eat. Downtown Santa Cruz was jam-packed madness and everywhere there was a long wait for a table for brunch on Sunday. Scotts Valley is only about a 12 minute drive away from Santa Cruz. I saw Chubby’s Diner on Unilocal.Looked cute, good reviews, has menu items for children, and it seemed like a nice place for family of four to go, so we thought we’d check it out! THELOWDOWN Chubby’s Diner is in the small, cute town of Scotts Valley, a well-to-do kind of area, just a short 12-minute drive away from Santa Cruz. It’s a ‘50s diner located in the well-maintained outdoor strip mall that also has a Dollar Tree, Kmart, dog grooming, and other retail places. There is plenty of parking in the private parking lot at this outdoor mall right in front of Chubby’s. The seating is almost all booth-style seating, which we prefer to have with our young children. There are about 8 booths available and one table. It’s a smaller place, but with small town diner charm. GOODTOKNOW ** There is a Kids Menu — this place is very kid friendly. Kid drinks served with lids! ** They SERVEBREAKFASTALLDAY! ** There is outdoor seating on three tables with patio umbrellas ** Chubby’s Diner is open from 7:00 am — 3:00 pm, seven days a week SERVICE — WOW! PLEASANTANDFRIENDLY We walked in around 11:00 am and though they were busy, we were able to be seated fairly soon. We were acknowledged right away and they cleaned up a table as soon as they could. We were sitting down and ordering from the menu within about five minutes. We were served by NICOLE and MARY. They were so friendly and WELCOMING to us out of towners! It was a FRESHDELIGHT! Nicole was super patient as I pored through all the menu choices, being indecisive, and also discussed with my husband what the children could have for breakfast. Nicole knew the menu well and made suggestions. Nicole checked in with us several times and so did MARY, always refilling our beverages. We could not have asked for two better people to help us! They were attentive, kind, and wonderful. Thank you, Nicole and Mary! I also noticed that the rest of the staff were busting their asses and working very hard. Great crew here at Chubby’s — they should be proud. FOOD — GOODFOOD, NICEPRESENTATION, ANDEXCELLENTVALUE! My husband got the simple POWERBREAKFAST $ 8.30 — 2 eggs, 2 bacon, choice of pancakes or 2 french toast halves, or toast and choice of potatoes. It was a very nice meal that he enjoyed. I chose the BREAKFASTQUESADILLA $ 8.40 — 3 scrambled eggs, with cheddar and jack cheese, chopped bacon and sausage, and topped with some beautiful avocado slices, and sour cream and salsa on the side. Served in a tortilla in two triangular-shaped pieces. It was exactly what I wanted! YUM! I do recommend this if you like avocado, salsa, and eggs. For the children, they shared a WAKEUPSUSIE $ 5.90 — 2 eggs any style with choice of potatoes and toast. We also ordered a side of french fries for them that they wanted. They ate happily. They also had a cup of chocolate milk each for $ 2.05 per kid. PRICE — GREATVALUE We ate this hearty, satisfying breakfast deliciousness for only $ 32.24. That is a very good value for feeding a family of four, including two drinks! RESULT/RATING Mouth-Tummies-Happy! I don’t give out five stars often, but as far as our diner experience went, this place deserves a five star rating for EXCELLENT, FRIENDLYSERVICE for first-time visitors in their town, attentive, friendly people, we got seated right away, the MENUOFFERSMANYCHOICESFORBOTHADULTSANDCHILDREN, FOOD was YUMMY, NICE, CHILLRELAXINGATMOSPHERE playing music in the background, and the PRICESAREFAIR. What’s not to like? Any time we are near Scotts Valley or Santa Cruz, we’ll make it a point to visit Chubby’s Diner! A welcome surprise on our busy morning, fleeing from the craziness of Santa Cruz. It’s always so nice to find a good place that is a hit with the whole family and is also wallet-friendly in a tourist area! FIVEGOLDSTARS!

I really liked this diner and my family enjoyed it also. Our waitress was very helpful and was very friendly plus she regularly checked up on us to make sure we where well taken care of. I had the power breakfast with 2 strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns and pancakes. It was simple and delicious. The diner is cozy and to my surprise we only had to wait a few minutes before being seated. Love the 50’s theme and we will definitely come back.

Came here on a late Sunday morning. Looking for breakfast. Got seated outside right away, menus, coffee and water right away. Ordered out food, it came reasonably quick and all the food was hot, a big bonus in my book. We both had omelette, has Browns were fresh and well made, the grilled potatoes were outstanding !! We also split a side of biscuits and gravy that were some of the best I’ve had. I usually judge a breakfast on this dish lately. Theirs were outstanding. Our coffee cups were kept full also. We will definitely be back here

When I first moved to Scott’s Valley I would never go into this place because the name sounded fat to me… then one day my Partner said we should give it a try and it’s our favorite place to eat ever since a little more than two years ago… We go as often as we can which is just about every Saturday and Sunday too… We’ve NEVER had a bad experience and the food is always really good… The vegetarian omelet is the only omelet I have ever eaten that I absolutely loved… moist and flavorful… The Ranch dressing and Seasoning that they use on the fries are something to crave for… The only drawback is that sometimes it is so busy we need to wait for a table… We often share our table with folks if we have a big one… and that is fun! We Love U Chubby’s!!! PJ& Russell Ulle

This is our favorite breakfast place. The food is always delicious and the waitresses are friendly and amazing. My coffee cup never goes empty. The prices fit right into our budget.

Used to be a five star but just not the best anymore. The food is still good because of the secret sauce and the prices are ok, service is hit and miss. But the place is dirty and needs to be open for dinner.

I went for Sunday breakfast recently. Lackluster food(much of it arrived cold) and service, and you can smell the restroom deodorizer throughout the restaurant whenever someone opens the bathroom door. Awful.

Was hungry, wanted American food. The staff was super friendly and everything was timely. I will say when we walked in the food looked really good! Breakfast looked awesome but we showed up about 40 minutes before closing and ordered food, I guess that was a mistake. Pros: — Privately owned and ran — Friendly staff — Shakes are awesome — My friend’s Ruben looked really good and he really liked it. Cons: — Burger and hot wings were over cooked, blue cheese on the burger didn’t taste right, it wasn’t dry blue cheese like I think I’ve always seemed to get at places and it might have been a mix. I’d say try the place, I think I caught them maybe not on a good day and they were ready to go home.

This is great place to have breakfast. Food is really good. The breakfast plate serving size is just right for one person. Their pancakes are so yummy but the quantity is too much. I asked for the eggs to be made into an omelette but she brought them scrambled anyway(?). They have clean restrooms. Overall, pretty good place for breakfast esp if you are on a road trip and want a decent stopover. That’s what we did! :)

A diner is a diner! And this is a good one. The burgers are large and seasoned just right. Fries are crispy. The service is good and the milk shakes are amazing. It is very ‘50s classic car style and with some good comforting food.

Great service, friendly staff, and the food was great. I was greeted quickly and told I can sit wherever I’d like. I chose to sit at the bar and ordered a water while I looked at the menu. They have a lot of variety, so I took a few minutes to look at the menu. I decided to get the French Toast combo that came with sausage, bacon, and eggs. It was great! I’d come here again and recommend friends to try this place too. I ordered an oreo shake to go and am enjoying it at the moment too!

Chubbys is quite literally THE best restaurant in Scott’s Valley. I have been coming here nearly four years and can say that the family-run diner has the best service, the sweetest staff and the best food. I order the steak sandwich on a regular basis. They have perfected the art of the sandwich. From the burgers to the homemade hoagie rolls to the fresh cut French fries, there is no other place in town that compares. Thank you to the wonderful Chubbys family for making me smile on a regular basis!

It has a quaint small diner feel to it and I did like the outdoor dog friendly tables. But the food is just so-so all around from taste to portion size and it’s not extra cheap to explain that. I think there are other places in SV that serve similar cuisine with more to offer. Also it may have been a fluke but it took over 30 minutes from the time we placed our order to when we got out food which was a simple turkey avocado melt and chicken fried steak sandwich. The ice tea was good at least.

This place is a cute old fashion diner with super friendly staff. Our server was really attentive and went out of her way to make sure we had a great dining experience. Especially since I read a Unilocal review to order off the menu for a apple pie shake. Our serve had not heard of it, but I told her that it was on Unilocal and I had to be that girl. She laughed it off and said I will see what I can do. Boy am I glad I ordered off the menu and followed the advice of a fellow Unilocaler. The shake really was to die for and loaded with tons of calories. Well worth it! Ordered the Blue plate special(Hamburger with onions cheese, avocado and fries for like $ 9) By the time this meal came I was stuffed since the shake was overload heaven. Overall this place is a good little family diner to visit if in the area.
