I lived in the neighborhood for years and this used to be one of my favorite places to go. I moved away for a couple of years and just moved back about 18 months ago and have watched it decline rapidly. The place looks and feels tired. I don’t think they’ve updated the interior since it opened in the early 2000’s. Almost all the old staff I liked are gone – the gray haired bartender, the lady who was going to baking school-all gone. Now it is a parade of new waitresses. The menu keeps changing in inexplicable ways. The Chicken Pesto used to be one of my favorites. Now it tastes like a frozen tv dinner. I must not be the only one who feels this way. The place used to be packed around 7 pm on the weeknights. Last couple of times I went it was half full at best. Except for one Thursday I came in and it was very busy. The blonde lady in her 50’s, who I think is the manager, sat on her computer while her staff ran around, clearly overwhelmed. Maybe the owner should get rid of her and take an interest in their business again. It used to be a great neighborhood joint.

Right when you open the door, the wait staff acknowledges you with a, «Hello.» We got here close to noon and were in-between the brunch time so we wanted to try it. I got the kids meal with the pancakes and fruit, my husband got the chorizo scramble. Both of which were delicious. I ordered a smaller size of food because I wasn’t that hungry at the time. I ended up ordering another side of the pancakes because they were THAT good. I would definitely come back to try different foods from their menu. The only catch is that parking is kind of tricky in that area. Other than that, it’s a great family orientated restaurant.

Went for dinner on a Tuesday night hoping to participate in trivia as well. Sadly, the trivia dude was on vacation so trivia didn’t run. That being said, we were not disappointed by our first visit to Barking Dog. I ate the black bean burger: good texture, great flavor, HUGESTFREAKING bean burger I’ve ever seen. I’m an awesome eater and I didn’t finish it. Deliciously dressed with some kind of spicy, citrusy guacamole spread, too! With sandwiches you can choose waffle fries(husband got!), chili or the soup special. Struggling with indecision, I asked our waitress what to do and she urged me to try the soup, which was a pork pozole(sp?). Surprisingly good soup coming out of a neighborhood pub. Waffle fries were good, being waffle fries and all, though I would’ve liked them a little crispier. At least their mediocrity meant I stole fewer of them from my husband. :) Extensive beer list, lots local, reasonably priced. Super family-friendly vibe and on a quiet residential street. Clean restaurant and bathrooms, cozy feel, good waitstaff.

I thought this was worth noting. My wife and I visited last weekend and ordered our usual fare. Barking Dog once served the best. pizza. ever. but they have since changed their recipe and dough. Now it’s only slightly better than Dominos. I ordered the Chicken Pesto, which was also an incredible dish and a long-time fav of mine, but the revised recipe tasted like something you’d eat at Walmart. It was… just ok, and the chicken was overcooked and rubbery. My wife ordered a burger medium-well with a side salad. She got a barely-cooked red raw burger with fries. Twice. Barking Dog was the go-to place in our neighborhood, but until they revert back to their old ingredients(And dare I say original staff), we’re probably going to avoid it for now. Barking Dog. if you’re listening, please go back to your original recipes! You might be doing it to save some money but is the lackluster food really worth it?

I am so sad that the Barking Dog Alehouse has declined so much in the past 18 or so months. It used to be my favorite neighborhood joint. I keep hoping the food will return to it’s past yumminess, but it is worse every time I go. Last night, I couldn’t even eat the fish tacos. I won’t be going back. The food is just awful now, and it used to be my go to place for comfort food. :-(

Sometimes I come here and it’s awesome and sometimes it’s really mediocre. I like that it’s open late with decent prices but that’s about it.

We’re fans. Really good food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. if the rest of the world doesn’t catch on, we can continue to find a parking spot with ease. The pizzas and the drinks are our favorites!

Erin is an amazing bartender and keeps me coming back again and again! Truly a non-assuming, dog friendly, neighborhood pub. Great food, solid beer, whiskey, and wine selection. Owner Steve is friendly and chill. Good for families, catching the game, and I found lunchtime is quiet and low key– perfect for a business meeting. See you at the Dog!

I will keep this short. The Barking dog itself is a great little place. Service is good, friendly and always with a smile. We have been there in the past but Saturday however I made the mistake of ordering the $ 11 Chilli Cheese Dog. I love love love Brats but this was easily the worst one I have ever had. Hands down! I cant even describe it but needless to say I only ate the mediocre chilli and some of the bread. I mentioned it to the server but it wasnt removed from the bill, sadly. Overpriced and disgusting. There was a silver lining to the trip: the Bloody Mary I had was very delicious.

The fish and chips were good, the lunch portion is quite large and filling. Garlic fries could use three times as much garlic. Love that they have a patio space. I prefer a cocktail bar to a neighbourhood pub but if I lived within walking distance, I’d probably meet friends here regularly. Seats and tables felt like they could use a serious Clorox-wipe down.

Came in for an early dinner and some drinks. Was not disappointed. Food is reasonably priced, higher end pub fare. All very fresh. And it came out super fast, especially considering the place was pretty packed with people watching a March madness game. Staff is friendly and attentive. Our server Lainie was nice enough to split the salad we were sharing without us even asking. Good beer selection. Some ciders, mead, and other interesting drinks available. Next time I’ll try a cocktail.

Great rotating draft beer list and tasty food! Drink happy hour runs daily 3 – 6 while food happy hour is sun-thur 3 – 6 and fri/sat 3 – 5. Late night happy hour runs sun-thur 8 – 10 and fri/sat 9 – 11. We went for late night happy hour on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised to see all Washington/Oregon beers on tap and great food options. We had the mini veggie pizza(way good for $ 6), excellent crispy not soggy tater tots, and the fish tacos. Nice chill spot, not to noisy and the server was really nice. Have had brunch here before and enjoyed ourselves.

Nice neighborhood bar. Great rotating beer selection at good prices. The service is excellent. The food is solid, but nothing special. I would recommend the pickle fries.

How I heard of this place: I first heard about the Barking Dog through my friend, when he moved into a town home one block away, but hadn’t had a chance to try the place until another friend — also living in the neighborhood — suggested it for dinner. Type of cuisine: It’s an alehouse with all of the typical pub grub one would expect, and then some. Everything from nachos to wings, pizza and burgers, to the not-so-obvious bar choices: tofu fries, meatloaf and chicken penne pasta. Ambiance: A loud and friendly neighborhood establishment, with a slightly dark interior, windows along the front side of the venue, allowing for as much daylight as one can get on a grey Seattle summer day. Bar seating includes tall tables with backed-stools, chairs and tables line the remainder of the restaurant, where kids are also welcome(a limited kids menu is also available). What I ordered: Sitting at a table where two are hungry, we ordered several things off of the menu, including an appetizer and salad. For our happy hour appetizer, we ordered the cheese quesadilla($ 6.95; $ 4.99 during happy hour), which was prepared with a flour tortilla grilled and filled with cheddar Jack cheese, served with sour cream and salsa. The Caesar salad($ 9.95) came with the traditional romaine lettuce and was tossed with a house-made creamy Caesar dressing and topped with parmesan cheese and croutons. For our main entrees my dining companion ordered the chicken saltimboca($ 17.95): Porcini mushroom dredged chicken breast, stuffed with fresh sage, prosciutto and smoked Gouda, pan seared and covered in a rich Sherry wine sauce and topped with fried onions. The dish was served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes & seasonal vegetables(broccoli). I selected the bleu cheese and fig ravioli($ 15.75): dried fig and bleu cheese filled ravioli tossed in a flavorful brown butter, tomato, basil, garlic, shallot and white wine sauce topped with shredded parmesan cheese. What I loved: Most of all, I loved the crispy, creamy and smoked flavor of the chicken on my dining companions plate! The garlic mashed potatoes were well seasoned, flavorful and smooth. Why I loved it: The space is casual, the staff friendly and the restaurant has lived up to its hope of creating a neighborhood space where locals can walk a few blocks to enjoy a good meal with friends, family or on an afternoon alone. Cost: Average($ 14-$ 20 for well-portioned dinner entrees)

Awesome happy hour menu! My friend and I each ordered a bottle of chimay blue for $ 12 each. So good. My friends ordered appetizers, very inexpensive. They had fried mushrooms, nachos, and some other random bar food. I was there for the beer and company, I had a good time. Good service, clean bar, three bathrooms! Would def be back for their clearance beers.

Great little place to grab a bite to eat and some good beer. Prices are on par with other comparable alehouses and they have a pretty decent selection of brews on tap and the service was very good. unlike some places, there were no blaring TV’s or background music so you can have a nice conversation without yelling. The Barking Dog is surrounded by residential homes which gives it a nice feel, but because it is in one of the older neighborhoods with narrow roads there is limited parking and some streets can be problematic if a car is coming from the opposite direction. Best to make sure to bring your rain gear and save time by looking for parking about 1 or 2 blocks away … unless you happen to live nearby. Otherwise I look forward to another visit to The Barking Dog(still unsure if dogs are allowed which would be GREAT!!). One last note, I did not see any indication if they do growler fills like many places that offer microbrews on tap.

The food was underwhelming. My chorizo burrito was extremely burnt and teeth shatteringly crunchy. The service was good but I don’t think I will be back. The menu online is outdated.

Barking Dog is a non-assuming, friendly little neighborhood pub with a kids-menu, indoor and outdoor café seating and lots and lots of windows and natural light. This has what some neighborhood food joints do not. First off, its very friendly. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in, and were offered several options on seating right away, despite the place being fairly busy on a Saturday night. The Barking Dog has lots of great beer on tap, giant portions of homestyle food, decent service, and they manage to cater to a diverse crowd. The front section is full of twenty somethings singles hanging with friends, and to the left another larger section that seems to be full of mainly families out for a bite and a beer. It’s low-key, easy going and good for families with kids who are looking to drink craft beer and eat good food in a casual setting. Food here is not exclusively fried, thank goodness, for example on kids-meals you can upgrade to a fruit or green salad vs. fries. For adults, we scored a decent burger(medium rare) with blue cheese. Alternatively, save your order for a surprisingly good(for bar food) dinosaur-sized portion of BBQ pork ribs and smashed garlic red potatoes. Not a foodie spot, but definitely a low-key neighborhood pub for you and yours to grab a family meal.

Great neighborhood place with events on Tuesday nights. It’s a little on the small side but it has a great atmosphere for those with kids and those without. It has a more open area with tables and booths then a more intimate area. The service is good, it’s always crowded when I go and the service is never lacking. The food and drink selection is great, some Mexican inspirations while some mainstream dishes as well. I have yet to have something I didn’t like, love their waffle fries in particular. Their ranch could be ranchier though. They pour a mean gin and tonic and their beer selection is always good. It’s a solid place overall. Parking can be a pain since it is in the middle of a neighborhood but oh well. Next thing to try at Barking Dog is breakfast, I sure it will be great like everything else I’ve tried!
