The food was ok, however the service is the reason we’re unlikely to ever return. Mostly, they just stood around talking. We sat and ordered first, so when the table next to us got their food, we asked the waitress if our order was on its way, to which her response was to argue that we didn’t order the apps we were waiting for. For the rest of the meal the service was unpleasant and uncomfortable. Very unprofessional and, sadly, disappointing considering our expectations.

While the food was great, what brought me back was the chai. We were super impressed all the way around on our first trip to Seattle, so the next time we were back(three years later) we made it a point to go back. Everything was as good as we remembered, including the chai. We were very happy both times we were went they gave us to-go cups of chai on the way out.

I must start by saying, I’m very happy to recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian/Mughlai cuisine, which hails from Northern India. The service is good and interiors is very traditional. Staff is very accommodating. Ample of parking space around. Their garlic naan, curries, tandoori item’s are all top notch. I’ll return here

Got a chance to visit Taste of India again, and it’s as good as I remembered. First of all, they have the best chai tea I’ve ever had, sweet, creamy and full of flavor. Whenever your cup is half full, the friendly staff will give you a refill pretty fast. We ordered garlic naan, since it’s a must have. It’s tender, crispy with a nature aroma of garlic. When you dip it into the curry sauce, it absorbs all the flavors and not soggy. Great combination with any curry dish. Portion is pretty big too. Since most dish comes with large portion of rice already, be careful on how much naan you order. My wife ordered mango curry with lamb and it’s a hit. Everyone loves the sauce with the sweetness of mango nicely balanced out the spiciness from the curry. The sauce goes great with either rice or naan bread, and just couldn’t stop eating it. The lamb is very tender and full of flavor. Our kid ordered chicken vindaloo. Since he could not handle much spicy food, we asked it to be very mild, not spicy at all. We feel the dish was not spicy at all, but our kid still feel it’s a little spicy. Probably something in the original ingredients makes him feel heat, which can’t be avoid. Other than that, it’s a great dish with nice taste from all the spices. My order was paneer cheese in rogan sauce, I ordered medium heat, which I expected a kick but the taste is more leaning to sour side. It tastes great though, and I love the bright red color of this dish. And the mild paneer cheese fits in it just well. All the dishes are very large portioned with plates of rice. Since we also ordered naan, that was lots of carb for us and we simply couldn’t finish them. At end we got lots of left over to pack. For a family of three like us, two entries with one order of naan should be good enough in portion.

I have been visiting this restaurant since last two years now and the food here is great! The gravies are more authentic and not creamy like other Indian restaurants in u distrcit. Some of their great dishes are chicken rogan josh, chilli paneer, garlic naan, and chilli naan. Other gravies are also very good. In desserts ras malai is really worth it.

Flavor packed Indian food near UW. The sauce for the chicken tikka masala is rich with many spices and the chicken is smoky providing layers of flavor. The saag paneer has big chunks of paneer. Note, an order of naan is huge, so one is probably enough to be shared.

Vegetarians: for every curry, there is an option for tofu, paneer, or veggies(in addition to the meat options). Also, a fair share of the curries are vegan. Super veg-friendly. We have tried about 6 curries so far, and all have been great. Some tips: — The naan is HUGE — for 4 people, you only need 1. — For spice level, you have the option of 1 – 5. We like medium, so usually get 2 or 3 — 2 is a bit milder than a typical medium, and 3 is a bit spicier than a typical medium. Side note regarding free appetizer/dessert: the times we have been here we did not receive free appetizers as others have mentioned, but we did get a complimentary dessert each time. Not that that would affect my review either way — just a note for others who may be expecting certain things. Maybe there is a certain time you have to go? Or have to ask? Not sure. On a similar note… the service is great in general. Very attentive, food comes out quick, even the bus boys are super friendly/happy.

Haven’t been in Taste of India in probably 15 years since I am not in Seattle as much as I use to be, but stopped in on the way to Seatac the other night with my father who has never had Indian food. I remember from past experiences to get here early or it can get pretty packed and there is mostly just parking in the street, and that worked out well. We got parking about a block away and there were only about 5 other tables taken while we were there. We ordered Naan to start, I mean can you go to an Indian place and not order naan ??? It was HUGE and pillowy and just down right delicious !!! As we were noticing when leaving on the reader board outside the door that they make sandwiches using their naan… no way !!! Next time oi !!! Anyway I got the Madras Marsala and my dad ordered the Shish Taouk. When I use to come here I remember the hot spicy dishes were never very spicy so I ordered the marsala medium hot and that was perfect, any hotter and it would have been too hot,(I am about a jalapeño heat person). It was very good and the chicken was cooked perfectly. It came with Basmati rice and there was actually a good amount of rice so I didn’t need to order extra. My dad’s Shish Taouk came with a lot of chicken pieces, I was surprised at how much he got, plus a bunch of rice and vegetables. It was pretty good also, with the chicken being cooked perfectly. The prices were kinda high on the main courses but we couldn’t quite eat everything and we are big eaters, and in my book if you are going to pay more and you get a lot of food… that is great !!! The service was really good and the servers were really nice, always having smiles on their faces. I have only eaten Indian food maybe like 10 times in my life so I am not one to judge the Taste of India on how authentic it is or how it compares to other Indian places. But to me the food was good and was cooked well(perfectly cooked chicken and naan), that and the service and how clean the place was, you can tell the owner really cares. Need to get back here more often, especially to try an naan sandwich… OMG !!!

It has become a challenge for my friends and I to try and get to the bottom of our chai tea glass because they are so prompt with the refilling! Fun game at least?! Needless to say we always leave fairly full. The free chai, free samosas, and free dessert are hardly the main attraction to this gem of a place but they are definite perks. The food delivers. The coconut curry is my all time favorite, I find it hard to stray away from. Garlic naan is a must too. There are two different buildings so it depends on how busy they are on where you will sit– I always feel like I am at a friends house for dinner. It’s become my go-to spot for Indian food here in Seattle!

I arrived between lunch and dinner, which I would recommend if you want super great service! I am not saying they wouldn’t give great service if it were busy because it’s only been my first experience yesterday. I’ve been to India and I’m literally still daydreaming about this place. The service was fantastic, every little detail was taken into consideration. Water filling on point. Endless chai– is this real?! Omg yes! They even replaced the saucer under my chai cup because I spilled a bit onto it. They asked how the food was. Plus. They wiped my table down after dinner — I’m a neat freak and it made me feel so comfortable! The food quality was great, I enjoyed everything and it tasted like back in India– as it should! I’m going back– if I lived in Seattle and could afford to eat out all the time this place would be my victim. Love it.

The only downfall is the price, but the food is so good that it’s worth the price. And they usually give extra food, like an appetizer or dessert, even if you didn’t order it. Love their butter chicken, coconut curry, and paneer masala. Haven’t eaten anything there that I didn’t love!

I’ve been to many Indian restaurants but this is one of my all-time favorites. The décor is not very memorable and the food is good although the quality seems to suffer when they are very busy. All that is forgivable because the service is outstanding. If you have to wait for a table, they will often bring out hors d’oeuvres for guests who are waiting. The wait staff are attentive and are always swooping in to refill your chai. Although I don’t go here for the quality of the food, the naans are always a draw for me. I could just order one naan and be happy. They’re big, fluffy and tasty. In general, the food is usually decent but I go here for the experience of eating in a bustling Indian restaurant with the best service.

This place is the bomb. You want Indian food? This is the place to go. Staff: Holy shit(excuse my french) but the staff here is FANTASTIC! They recommend types of food that are great if you don’t know what you want. They are all friendly and they really want you go leave with a smile on your face… and a very full tummy. They are very attentive to whether you are ready for your check, want more water, drinks, or if you are even ready to order. What I love about this place is that they check in with you during your dinner to make sure everything is fantastic and this shows that they really want you to come back. Food: The food here is legit. They have a lot of variety of indian food for those who are either vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or even a meat eater. Their masalas are very good and so are their curry. I will say this, if you are eating with a group of friends or even by yourself, you really don’t need to order 2 orders of Naan. The naan they give you is so big that it can really feed 4 people. If you try anything here, you honestly will not be let down. Environment: This place is very clean and knowing how cold Seattle is, they have heaters around the customers to make sure they are warm. I love how this place is decorated because they have things that really remind me of India. After you finish your dinner(before dessert) they will make sure the table is cleaned and wiped down before dessert. Gotta love this place and I highly HIGHLY recommend that you try this place

Our friend in Seattle recommended this place based on recommendations from his friends and coworkers, so it was the first place we tried that was new to all of us during our vacation. Taste of India is pretty gosh darn delicious. When we were seated, they brought out a complimentary appetizer and it was super tasty. It was some kind of fried potato dish — I wish I knew the name, but I don’t. It was really good, though, and I’m hoping I can find it elsewhere. I ordered the Madras Chili Masala because it seemed like one of their spiciest options. When the waiter asked me how spicy I wanted it, I told him, «As spicy as you can make it.» He replied with, «Are you sure? You don’t look like the kind of person who can handle spicy.» Touché, waiter, touché. I reassured him that I can handle spicy and I hoped for the best. When I got my food, it was delicious, but not very spicy. The waiter did not trust that I could handle spicy, but, when looking at the owner’s comments to other reviews, it appears that they tone things down here. Given how many white people there are in Seattle, I don’t blame them. Y’all cater to your audience. It’s okay that the waiter didn’t know I was some kind of mythical white girl who can handle spicy.(And I do mean spicy. Melt your face off is my baseline.) I tried the butter chicken, too, and that was also very good. I have a feeling you probably can’t go wrong with anything here. Everybody loved their dishes and we ate as much as we could. We got one order of naan and that naan is ENORMOUS. Bigger than your face, bigger than two faces, bigger than all the faces. We tackled it and got through most of it, but still had some left over. Color me impressed. After our meals, they brought out a complimentary dessert, too! I can’t believe how much free food they bring to your table; it’s amazing. I know it was just an appetizer and a dessert, but what other restaurants bring you both a complimentary appetizer AND dessert? You usually get one or the other, but not both! If I lived in Seattle, I would come here all the time because the food was really good, but, alas, I live in silly Texas. I’m glad I was able to try it once and it will go on my list of places I must visit again if I’m ever back in Seattle.

Its a long overdue review. We hired them for a catering service on our event. Their food was awesome and the service was good. We received many complements on the food served in the event. I was really impressed with the owner of this place. He was really nice to interact with. Whether you are planning to visit this place or to have them cater to your event, I totally recommend this place.

I came here for dinner on my first night in Seattle with a friend who lives nearby. Nothing really stood out to me about the food we ordered here. It wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t memorable compared to other Indian food I’ve had. The one exception was the naan, which is freakin gigantic! It’s quite easily three times larger than the naan I’ve had at any other restaurant I’ve been to. You can easily share between a group of two or three and it would be more than enough. The restaurant actually consists of two buildings and they’ll seat you wherever there is space. The smaller venue is the one with a bar. Service was a bit questionable here because the bartender left his post and came over to our table more often than the other staff who were supposed to wait on our table. The bartender was nice but it seems odd that he needs to stop what he’s doing just because others don’t seem to pay attention to their own tables.

This time, I went to the restaurant instead of ordering delivery. The food was very good. The spiciness was on point. My friends and I ordered garlic naan, coconut curry, mango curry and butter chicken. They are all very delicious. One fun thing, which is not a complaint, was the server put the to-go box right on the naan after we asked for a to-go box. We were all shocked, like that’s not making sense at all. Never ever put the to-go box on the food, no matter how clean you believe the box is. It’s funny to us, and I’m not sure if that’s the training or that person just didn’t think before he acted. Overall, I still enjoyed the food and will surely go back.

This place was so amazing. I can’t believe it took me ten years to actually eat here. Now I am full of regret over the last decade wasted without Taste of India in my life. The veggies on the side were so good. The naan was so gigantic. The chai was so plentiful. I went there yesterday and I want to go back again today. It is honestly the best Indian food I’ve ever had. Only drawback was that I had a bite with a whole cardamom pod in it, and it was pretty gross to eat. But I’m not even going to take away a star for it because everything else was so great.

Went with some friends to this place. Indian is definitely one of my favorite kinds of food. I was definitely NOT disappointed! The service was very efficient and friendly, the food(I had the Lamb pineapple curry) and it was absolutely perfect! The jasmine rice and garlic na’an were spot on as well. They kept the chai teas filled and left lots of water pitchers on the table! They definitely take great care of their guests! At the end, they brought a couple of desserts to the table, one of which being cheesecake with a mango reduction. Oh man. YUM. It was delicious. They were very helpful when we were leaving to make sure our large group were able to split the bill at the register. Very easy! You had better believe I will be back here! Other than the un-even-ness of the floor, this was a great food experience. HIGHLY recommend Taste of India!

Finding the actual restaurant here was weird. We walked North from U District and thought the club or whatever it is was the restaurant. The door was open, but no one was around. We saw some folks outside dressed in kitchen aprons and pants, and asked them where we should go and they looked at us and waved us off, ignoring us. Despite this experience, we walked to the building next door, which we had thought was some closed-down restaurant and it turned out to be the actual restaurant. So we got sat and ordered and ate. The food was good, but, unlike many(most?) Indian places, they didn’t have any combo plates — single dishes only. And they were really expensive, compared to what I’ve had in the past. Chai was presweetened and refills were on the house. In addition, an appetizer of some sort and a dessert of rice pudding was brought to us free of charge. Definite points for that! The service was up and down: our main server was great, but the three to four others who intermittently came by were not always helpful, and most times caused more confusion than anything. The naan was burned, and didn’t come in the huge disc like we saw in others’ reviews and in the restaurant, so that was a bummer. Overall, it was expensive Indian. I’ve had better and the whole experience was very odd.

3.5 stars because of great service, but disappointing food. I’m actually a little disappointed given the great Unilocal reviews. I thought the food wasn’t that great here, but the service was so good I felt bad giving it 3 stars. The service here is amazing. Waiters will refill your water and bring you napkins without asking. They also give you a free appetizer and dessert! The portions for that are small, but a little goes a long way in showing that the restaurant is just really nice. The food, on the other hand, was quite disappointing for me. I just felt like the butter lamb I ordered was very bland and felt diluted. Moreover, the garlic naan had little to no garlic flavor. Overall, my meal here was just bland. I’ve never tried any other Indian restaurants in Seattle, but pretty much all the Indian restaurants I’ve been to in the Bay Area are better… Moreover, I felt that the price wasn’t justified. $ 17 for a curry, plus $ 4 for garlic naan. a little expensive, but I guess that’s where the free appetizer/dessert comes in. Not going to lie, I wouldn’t come back again. But if you’re looking for exceptionally good service with ok food(if you aren’t into super spicy), this is a good place with nice ambiance too.(Tip: they have ample parking in their lot and lots of street parking nearby)

I had not been back to this place since when I was in high school and I have to say it still delivers! I feel like they must have changed owners at some point because I feel like there are a lot of improvements from what I remember. First of all the staff is super friendly and accommodating and really make you feel special. Immediately after being seated they brought a complimentary appetizer and water(I love places that leave a pitcher so you can refill for yourself!). Whatever the sauce was that came with the appetizer it was delicious! They gave us plenty of time to peruse their large menu with tons of options. Once we ordered the food came quickly and was quite tasty! All of the portions are big so you will definitely not leave hungry. Finally once they brought the bill the brought a complimentary mango cheesecake! So nice… I will definitely be back and will most likely start to be a regular :)

I’m gonna get real for a minute… the food is not wholly authentic but is super delish. Nom nom nom NAAAAANNNNNN bread. HUGE portions, sort of insane. I love it. The owner is always there, it seems and checking in on the customers. It has become crazy busy here. Come in the off hours, like an early dinner or late lunch. I really do love the curry here. It always throws me when you go to an Indian restaurant but there are options for Greek fare. Weird.

So. Tasty. If I could eat one cuisine for the rest of my life, it would be Indian. Even before trying it, I figured Taste of India would be good because of the amount of people I see frequenting it at any given time throughout the week. When I tried it, I was smitten. Great atmosphere(outdoor covered seating for those of you who love the fresh air), stellar service, and great food. When we were seated, we were given a complimentary fried potato appetizer, which was a very nice touch. We then ordered the garlic naan, which is MASSIVE(and obviously very tasty). I usually do a great job at slaughtering naan at Indian restaurants, but I actually had some to take home at the end of my meal! Great ratio of butter to garlic. For entrees, I shared the chicken tikka masala and palak paneer(saag) with my friend, and both dishes were very flavorful. The chicken tikka masala is probably my favorite in the Seattle area(my absolute favorite being in Renton). The palak paneer was exactly as I like: creamed, soft, and a little kick. We finished the meal with a complimentary dessert that was similar(if not) to baklava. It was warm, perfect, and delicious. The staff is on top of refilling water and checking to see if you need anything. The patrons all seem to be regulars. I really liked the vibe inside the restaurant. It felt like being inside a house. There’s a Unilocal discount for checking in! I am still punching myself for forgetting to use it. Next time, loves, next time.

Havent been here in a while, but it is as good as I remember it. Waited for about 25 minutes for a table, so we decided to wait outside, they have nice heat lamps to stand under, they brought out complimentary chai tea and pokoras(sp)(I think thats what they are called… fried potato nuggs). Garlic Naan was good as always, huge size overflowing over the basket it is served in. As for mains, we ordered Coconut Chicken Curry, delicious with some nice fresh shaved coconut on top. Nice curry flavor, good size chunks of chicken and perfect amount of sauce! I got the Lamb Shahi Korma, different spices but super flavorful, and good sized portions for next day lunch! A mango lassi & some more chai tea to wash it down, we were good to go!!! Also, they gave us a complimentary scoop of coconut ice cream at the end. Thanks Taste of India! I enjoy coming here, the staff is attentive and keen on looking for any refills on water, and the dipping sauce that comes with the naan… we were running low then BAM another one is brought out to us. Mohammed is so nice too, he is always running around greeting people, putting names on the list, checking on people outside waiting for their tables, giving updates on how much longer, making sure people get complimentary chai and pokoras(sp), helping the servers run food to the tables, doing take out orders for people and the food delivery service guys and so much more! He offers great service and awesome at front of the house and makes coming in for dinner so much better!

Excellent service, comforting chai tea, delicious food. No wonder this restaurant got so many good reviews. We were there for a friend’s birthday lunch. Called in advance for reservation and when we’re there, our table was ready for us. I like the fact that the restaurant has skylight, which makes the environment very bright. One advice. Don’t feed on the chai tea. I know it sounds strange, but they have a nice must-try sweet milky chai tea. Before you realize it, you finished one cup and the smiling waiter just keep refilling. Combine this yummy chai tea with the complimentary fried fritter they and their famous naan, you will be half full even before the main entry arrives. And that’s exactly what happened to me. Naans, or tandoori breads. They have a great selection of naans with all different filling and flavors. Not cheap but totally worth it. Main dishes. We ordered different kind of dishes like curry, kabab, chili chicken royal biryani. Here are a few points. Kabab dishes were little too dry and chewy for us, especially the lamb. The flavor was good, but the texture was too rough. Not suggested. Chili chicken is kind of like Chinese dish General Tsao’s chicken, however salter and spicier. The chicken is very tender and juicy though. So it’s a great dish if you’re OK with heavy flavor. Curry dishes. All were pretty good. The flavors are great, the meats are tender and juicy, and they all goes great with either rice or bread. Royal biryani. It’s my favorite dish here. Nicely flavored with curry and saffron, a little bit spicy and sweet, but not too heavy. The raisins and cashews added a nice texture and earthy sweetness to the dish. It’s a great dish and I would definitely suggest this. The portions were really good. Almost all of us had leftover to pack. In summary, it’s a solid choice for India food if you know what dish to order. Chai tea and tandoori bread are must try.
