The Double Header

This is a surprisingly awesome little piece of dive bar history. Cool bartenders. Solid drinks. No foof. I’ll be back.

This was the place we would go to after Sounders games. It was great, old school dive bar in Pioneer Square and minimal crowd. Tonight change my opinion of that.
12 of us after the Sounders match headed here. Multiple pitchers, a few Jameson’s and one round shots. Nothing too bad, maybe one or two of was a bit loud. Nothing unexpected for a Saturday night. Eventually the louder ones left. Trying to buy another round for the remaining table we got the «I’m concerned» from the bartender. After a brief discussion he asked us to leave. At this point we were the only revenue in the bar, Saturday at 10:30.
Headed over to Collins Pub with zero problems.
No more Double Header for us.

I love this bar, especially its history. Is Seattle’s most famous drag queen Francine’s large oil painting still hanging? Look at the bar. It came by ship around the Cape to get to Seattle. Great history and fun here. I hope it lives forever!

Came here as part of the Spooked in Seattle pub crawl tour, and I’ve got to say, I am thoroughly displeased. The pub crawl was good, but the two grumpy frumpy fools that were working the bar left a bad taste for me. Upon coming in, the group of say 10 people apart of my tour, rushed the bar with myself included, to which the both bartenders passed me up, ignored my waves, and called patrons BEHIND me for orders. Must say, will not be stepping foot in this establishment ever again.

Went there Thursday night after the football game. Crowded, but we were up at the bar, leaning against it. Tried to get a drink. Just one male and one female bartender there working with so many. Just completely understaffed. I know the female bartender saw us, she looked at us several times. She would keep helping people that just walked up to the bar. After 15 minutes of flagging her, being ignored, we just left. It really needs to be staffed more on game nights and maybe get bartenders that aren’t completely overwhelmed and out of touch with the crowd. I’d go a block farther away from stadium and drink at mariott courtyard or maybe Fado’s.

This was a big deal at one time, and it could be again. This is an incredible historic building and in a prime location. The owner needs to let someone bring this gem back to life before it’s too late — this place should be busy every single day (not just for games).

We ventured in to The Double Header because we were on a self-​guided tour of all the interesting watering holes around Pioneer Square. Because The Double Header is the oldest gay bar in Seattle, it qualified and thus we found ourselves bellying up to the bar for a drink.
Since we’d been to a few places before this one, we realized that we needed some food in addition to our drinks. Initially, we ordered the fish & chips to split. The bartender gave us a funny look (he was great!) and said that they were out. We then took another look around and decided that perhaps something simple like popcorn would be a better option. We ordered popcorn, and the bartender then took out a microwave popcorn pouch and popped it into the microwave. This really made us giggle, but we held it in, realizing that it would be far fresher than your average bar popcorn. When the microwave dinged, the bartender grabbed a big plastic bowl, poured the popcorn in, and set it down in front of us. Because of the charm of the entire incident, it was the best popcorn I’ve enjoyed in quite awhile.
The bartender filled us in on the history of the place and the owners (same family), as well as telling us about the huge wooden bar front. All in all, definitely worth stopping in!

The Double Header is a nice ‘hole in the wall’ dive bar I found, not far from Union Station, (Pioneer Square) on an Amtrak layover.
Missy the ‘bartendress’ fixed me up with a gi-​normous hot dog and ice cold suds.
It was fun to watch ‘er give the regulars a-​hard-​time. It’s obvious… they love that.
All in all, a hidden gem to hang at and stay frosty.

I just tried this place out before the Sounders game. Good prices & busy — but no big lines to get drinks. Ill be back for sure on game days!

I stumbled upon this place looking for quick drink before a first Thursday Pioneer Square Art Walk. Those art galleries usually give out a free glass of wine, but usually only if you look like you’re going to buy something, and sometimes you just need a real drink before you go look at a bunch of art. So I was there around 5:30 p.m., and this place was clean, not too crowded, and the bartender poured a very nice happy hour gin and tonic. I noticed that they had Henry Weinhard’s on tap, which led to a nice conversation about how that used to be the fancy beer before the microbrew revolution. In a neighborhood where most bars are restaurants, sports bars, or live music venues, the Double Header stands out as just a nice place to get a good drink.

I’m such a fan of this place it’s ridiculous.
Where else can you actually find room to breath and order a drink (s) and move around in the Pioneer Square/​stadium area on game day with a group of friends. NO WHERE but here! The Double Header is huge and open and has great staff and is low key.
We’ve had too many late nights after games here to count. Don’t expect fancy frills or lots of hand holding from the bartender. Definitely also expect some good people watching and/​or ignoring.
I have no idea how this place is surviving or paying the rent, but until they are gone I am going to enjoy it.

went in this last sat before the Sounders game… my 2 friends were sitting in the middle of the bar, i took a seat in front of the Manny’s handle. I made eye contact with both bartenders, ID in one hand a $ 20 in the other. the seconds turned into minutes as I witnessed them serving around 12 patrons. THEY NEVER SERVED ME!
after the bar was clear of people needing drinks the barkeeps started washing glasses, I stood up and left. Never in my life have i felt anything like this. Please do not support racism=do not go to the double header

Oh, it’s a gay bar, for real! Notice the rad old black and white photos of drag clubs framed and hung high up on the north (?) wall. I’m female so everyone pretty much leaves me alone, but if you hang out long enough, you’ll notice the very quiet, low-​key pick-​up scene happening. It’s the oldest gay bar on the west coast.
I’ve been going there for years in the afternoons to practice my pool game and get ‘out of Seattle’. Sometimes the hardcore regulars are watching TV with the volume up really high, which I don’t like, but there’s also a jukebox. The bartenders are always really nice, they have great diner style coffee. I’ve also been there a few times for drinks in the evening, during gallery walk or if I’m down there otherwise, you’ll pretty much have the place to yourself unless it’s lesbian softball night. I’ve heard there are occasionally drag reviews there but I’ve never caught one. I don’t know how long we can hope to keep it but I’ll sure be sad when it’s gone!

Went here after a Seahawks game. The bartender was super nice and when I asked where the nearest light rail station was he offered to walk me to the door and point it out when I left. He even remembered about 30 min later when I left and did point it out.
They have pull tabs, pool tables, and a dart board for your enjoyment while drinking. It used to be a gay bar, but I don’t know if it would just be solely a gay bar anymore. I wouldn’t have ever guessed that on a night after a game except I read the other reviews.

Huge bar. that most people in seattle dont even know about it seems… when i went… drinks were good… my co-​workers beer was cold… service was quick and friendly…
not a bad place to meet for a drink before a hawks or m’s game… as for being a gay bar… not sure… seems like a blue collar bar imo…
