Everyone is pretty nice here, and the bartender pours strong. The place itself is cozy, with an eclectic mix of music playing, and there’s a Street Fighter 2 cabinet so it’s a win for everyone. They were out of IPA by the time I got there, but that’s ok. The fries were good too. I’m visiting the city looking to move here, and I wanted to find a spot where real people go, and this place fits the bill.

It’s funny that(really square) people get on Unilocal to complain about a bartender making a joke about a pretentious drink you’ve ordered, or that they don’t have oranges for an old fashioned. Every time I order a martini here I get a «OO someone’s fancy!!» And I like that. It’s FUN.

Laid back atmosphere, lots to look at inside. Great HH menu with lots of food and drink options. The beet salad on the HH menu was not so tasty but the vegan sliders were amazing. A chill place to grab some drinks.

Definitely a dive. When the bathroom doesn’t have a mirror, has blood droplets on the floor, and mismatched paint, you know what to expect. Pitchers of beer for under 10 bucks was a huge plus. My buddy and I had an entire pitcher left an hour before closing when one of the bartenders, in the most shrill and annoying voice you’ve ever heard, starting screaming«get the fuck out of here!». So we spent the last hour listening to this woman screaming at us and flashing the lights. If you want to hang out at a shitty bar tonight, check out the redwood.

It’s unfortunate. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to have a drink and just so happen to walk by redwood. We walked in and thought wow this place is chill and relaxed, a perfect spot to stumble upon. And there are tots! Score! With only 2 other people at the bar We sat for a while before the bartender(tall dark hair bearded man with glasses) approached us… too cool to even say hello apparently. as he greeted us with a smirk and asked us what we wanted. I asked for a dirty martini in a rocks glass due to the fact that I tend to spill with martini glasses. He laughed. I looked confused as to what was so funny, he then tried to mock me by repeating the ingredients to me as if I didn’t know what a dirty martini was… I was like ok are you asking me how to make it? I’m confused? And he just laughed again, I looked at my boyfriend like wtf? My boyfriend then asked for an old fashion and the bartender responded with«this is a shitty bar we don’t carry oranges». We immediately left. Why would we want to give our money to a bartender like that… Just plain rude. Guess he would rather make a buck off of 5 PBRs. And more so I feel bad for the owner! I hope he’s aware he’s got a bartender like that pushing away his/hers business with a bad attitude. Like the bartender said«this is a shitty bar, we don’t carry oranges» definitely don’t plan on returning.

This place would be awesome if it weren’t for the rude bartender(tall with beard and glasses) if you see him DON’T GOIN!

It has been brought to my attention by friends and loved ones that I should not write Unilocal reviews while hangry. If anyone is unfamiliar with the term, hangry is the unfortunate state someone reaches when they are so hungry, they become angry… hangry. To even talk to someone(let alone deny them the food items they were craving) is an exercise in futility and often leads to unpleasantness. This is what happened last night so I am amending my review. The Redwood is awesome in many ways and one of those is that they don’t give a fuck. In my blind, hangry rage, I forgot that and I am sorry. They better have my goddamn burger next time though!

Perfect dive bar in all the right ways. Good bar food. Check.(I got the fried pickles and Mac and cheese and highly recommend) Good drinks. Check(try the michelada!) Dark, sticky environment. Check. Staff is all cool, and it’s always chill here, no bro-ish non locals at this spot!

Drinks only review: My friend and I were looking for a place to chill and the Redwood was close and looked good. Atmosphere is good– a woody and eclectic space provides a great spot to chat with friends and meet new ones. Bartender had a abysmal attitude for no apparent reason. We asked if we could get an old fashioned–«nope.» Uh. What? Really? «What kind of cocktails do you have?» «We don’t have oranges. Don’t do anything with oranges.» Helpful. Drink was weak to boot.

Favourite bar in Seattle. I’m sad and mad that it will soon be gone! Thanks a lot, capitalist douchebag developers.

We have been bar hopping around Seattle since we arrived here on Saturday. This is one of the places we had stopped. Such a cool little vibe for an awesome bar! Plus they had Coors Light so it’s an automatic win in my book! Thanks for the cool experience! And the peanuts were great as well!

This is one of the greatest neighborhood bars around cap hill, if not the greatest. Where else can beat consistent relaxed/accepting vibe, free peanuts, and good beer selection? This bar brings life to the belmont ave area.

The more trendy the hill gets the more I like this place. Reminds me of the bars I would go to when I first moved to Seattle. I’m no hipster but this is a great bar, divey, two ingredient cocktails, shotgun shells laminated into the counter, old movies on the screen. Just a cool laid back, no nonsense drinking place. I remember coming here when it first opened. Just off the beaten path and get drunk with your buddies kind of place and it hasn’t changed yet.

Food is ok. Service isn’t that great. I was sitting at the booth and asked someone who brought the food if i can order a drink and he just shook his head and walked away. It would be nice if he slightly responded but he just shook his head. Rude!

The best place to go to observe hipsters in their natural habitat. The room gets a little crazy on weekends and when there’s a game. I prefer to go there in the afternoons and other quiet hours to chill with my posse and down a couple.

I love me a dive bar. And when I needed a casual place to hang-out where I could catch-up with friends and enjoy some affordable drinks, Redwood fit the bill. The menu had a good selection of greasy bar food that unfortunately I didn’t get to try, as the kitchen closed at 10pm when we were there on a Wednesday. Leaving my hungry friends and I devouring an inordinate amount of free peanuts and freely casting the shells all over the floor.

Drinks suck and the staff are ASSHOLES. I’m serious — me and my 4 friends were sitting at a table drinking at 1:46, this waiter comes over and actually takes the cup out of my hand as I was about to finish my beer and then says to me friend«GETOUTNOW». I go up to the counter and tell him that I thought he was rude and could improve his customer service to which he replies«I DON’T CARE»…well he should care it’s his job… the older bartender stood next to him not saying shit! It was just unbelievable, I’ve never experienced such rude service, I wouldn’t support this place you’re giving $ to serious dicks who will only be kind to you until you’ve already tipped them.

Free peanuts, $ 6 happy hour pitchers and hipster ambiance. What else can you ask for? Great, friendly staff and a juke.

The mixed drinks here are good. Beer selection is fairly good. You’ll need to order at the bar for everything. Table service(for the food you order at the bar) is a bit chaotic. They never seem to have more than one server working, despite the fact that every time I’ve been there it’s been quite busy. It’s definitely a dive bar in a sorta hipster way. They always have a looped old movie playing. Overall, if you’re okay with the chaos, it’s a good place to have a drink.

I love the Redwood. Campy, mostly local little pub tucked out of the way on Capitol Hill. I’m not going to go into a ton of detail for this bar. It’s really quaint and campy and has a good divey feel. The bar woodsy and is almost the perfect size. Not too big, not too small, with a great beer selection. The best part is the menu though. One of the most significant vegetarian and vegan menus I’ve ever seen. Almost everything comes with a veggie option and although they’ve reduced the size of the menu, they still have a good one. Service is good too, although everything must be ordered at the bar.

I really like this little neighborhood tavern. The Redwood has a very chill vibe with better than average bar food, classic movies, stiff drinks and friendly locals. The mini mart next door has smokes.

Get the lager & black current! Best deal in this here city of Seattle! To be honest, I wouldn’t necessarily call it a divey bar. It’s really homey and intimate with a just a mild suggestion of hipster/grunge. The bartenders are pretty cool. The drinks are acceptably priced. Their options of fries are fantastic. I’ve spent many a nigh here with only great memories to share. One of them includes the presidential debates in 2012 where people howled and hooted the entire time. I just sat there and watched. Please join me in saying that this bar is a true gem in Seattle.

A dive bar… yes! I appreciated people being mellow, low-key, just watching sports there. No one really appeared to be creepy. I was happy that the bartender carded me(probably because I didn’t know what to do, suspicious) I probably wouldn’t relate clean with dive bar because it’s really not clean. But, it’s ok! It’s really bearable! The weird thing about this place is there’s no mirror in the bathroom. It’s very weird!

I wish this place was just a little closer to home for me, it seems like a great place to be a regular. Hipster dive bar would be my best assessment on the type of establishment. Tons of plaid and beards generally. The crowd is not the friendliest, but dont let that deter you. Giant projector screen that during my visits has been generally showing some black and white film noir. $ 2 rolling rocks.

Another Sunday confessional: I have the kind of infatuated, blind-eye boner for Capitol Hill that only a tourist could have. So I shake off the terrible parking conditions on the weekends, the crowded and steep sidewalks, and the vague unfamiliar feeling of being trendy to bar hop in the ‘hood when I go to Seattle. I feel cool, damn it! That said, while I doubt I could ask much more beyond the lived-in, bustling, neighborhood hangout atmosphere that a bar like The Redwood offers, I find it just all right. Drink selection is OK. Multiple games on screens, also perfectly acceptable. Big crowd on a Saturday night full of diverse kinds of cute. Maybe I’d like The Redwood more if I could get there during a less hectic night. I’m sure that has to do with the fact that The Redwood is not my neighborhood watering hole, and who does this hillbilly from dumpy Portland think she is, anyway? Point taken, imaginary conversation. Maybe the it factor for a neighborhood bar rises and falls depending on how much you dig the neighborhood. Thing is, I’ve established my Capitol Hill hard-on. There are places up and down these streets I’ve enjoyed very, very much. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t return to The Redwood, since I totally would. If the cool kids would have me there, I mean. ‘Cause I’m hella cool. Right?

I liked the Redwood. It definitely has character and is a good quintessential Seattle dive bar off the beaten path on Capitol Hill. Upon arrival I felt like I should go home and change into my flannel(although I don’t have any) and my Toms(also not in my closet). I enjoyed a whiskey drink out of mason jar and some good company. I’ll be back when on the Hill!
