Went there for breakfast and the meat quiche and eggs Benedict were AMAZING!!! The service was great and friendly, we ordered and the food was served a lot faster then we expected! We will definitely be back again when we come back!

BEST jam. Ever. You can purchase jars of their condiments at the restaurant or online. I will return to experience their dinner menu. Friendly staff and a comfortable and classy ambiance.

The food is wonderful and they make a great bloody mary with wonderful pickled vegetables but the service sucks. After she took our order for food no one returned to ask if we wanted more water or coffee refill or even another drink. When she brought the food she practically threw the plates at us. The food was awesome! Again, no one came to see if our food was okay or if we needed anything etc, etc. Finally an older man came to clear our plates I gave him the credit card and told him we seemed to have lost our waitress. No response. He brought our check. He didn’t say a single word NOTEVENTHANKYOU! To add insult to injury as we were leaving they didn’t say thank you or goodbye or have a nice day! This is the worst service I have ever experienced and we go out a lot. For such a nice interior and fancy napkins one would expect some degree of hospitality. I would never recommend this place I don’t care how great the food is.

How in the world is this currently rating as a 4 star experience?! We came here on a whim, and the entire experience — from the expert-crafted cocktails, to the decadence awaiting us for dessert — was easily 5 star. The menu is somewhat eclectic, but the flavors tantalize and meld in your face-holes! And the service? EXCELLENT! If you want greasy fish-n-chips and fudge while picking saltwater taffy out of your molars, continue to drive north; but don’t miss this experience waiting on the edge of town! Oh, and don’t forget to prefunk at the North Jetty Brewery across the street! By the way, I almost gave them 4 stars because of the experimental jazz screeching from the speakers, but my cocktail(the Cherry Pie Rye) made it tolerable!

We went for dinner. My husband had the crab bebnoit and steamer clams. The clams were delicious. Crab fritters were good, not note worthy but good. He had the fish stew for dinner and said it was just ok. Two muscles, two shrimp no scallops but the sauce was tasty. So I had the stroganoff. Hmmm. Not note worthy. So I guess I’m saying it wasn’t anything to really write about as far as food we had. However, service was great, nice people and enjoyed ourselves. We got there at 5 and in ½ hour the place was full. You may want to make reservations because we counted about 15 tables in this small place. For our dinner for two, 90 bucks and a bit too expensive to go back.

Dungeness Crab Begniets were amazing. Razor clams, fresh bread, Marion berry conserve… all served perfectly. We will be back.

I want to give this place 5 stars but I can’t due to the following: When we arrived we were the only customers there. The server was on a cell phone and clearly having an argument on the phone. She was quiet but it was evident. We heard her say«I have customers» and about 30 seconds later she came to great us, phone still next to her ear, handed us menus informed us to sit anywhere and she apologized. Not the greatest but I understand having a rough day. I ordered the Salmon scramble and my boyfriend ordered the blueberry waffle. We both got coffee. The coffee was very good, great flavor, not too strong but not weak either. A solid cup of joe. Breakfast arrived in no time. The blueberry waffles with loaded with berries, homemade whipped cream and a side of blueberry syrup. My boyfriend said it was phenomenal. The salmon scramble came with a side of toast and red potatoes. The potatoes were perfectly cooked. The toast was not quite toasted enough. The salmon scramble had great flavor but very very little salmon. I was a little disappointed at the small amount of salmon I received. Overall I enjoyed this place. We will come back again for sure.

I had one of the best tuna salad sandwiches ever and my husband and a fabulous smoked salmon omelette. I also had a lovely mixed green salad with their house dressing. So good. Wish I’d remembered to buy some. Their homemade cranberry products are for sale. Yum! Only downside was they were out of beignets.

Great fresh local food! I had the smoked salmon scramble with potatoes & whole grain toast. It’s was absolutely delicious. You can tell they cook with fresh ingredients and care about their costumers! My boyfriend really enjoyed his clams and the fresh broth they were steamed in! All around a great restaurant in long beach! I will definitely be back!

We only had the simpler breakfast of eggs, potatoes, protein, and toast, but the service was spot on and the food fit the bill. Other items on the menu looked tasty and we will return to try a few more.

We came for New Years and called to make a reservation… They squeezed us in. We had a big crew 4 adults and 3 kids… They had balloons up everywhere and the staff was super nice. Calamari was wonderful, seafood soup was too. The fish burger was average. Jambalaya was great too… Yummy

Goodness gracious, YUM?! My husband and I stopped in last weekend, for our 10 year anniversary. We had asked our hotel staff for brunch suggestions and were directed to the 42nd Street Café. We started off with benigets, which came out warm, delicious and covered in powdered sugar, and piping hot coffee. My husband ordered the Jambalaya Scramble, and I had the Russian«Vegetarian» Scramble. I still can’t stop thinking about how delicious the scramble was! It was perfect. The potatoes were crisp and tender, the eggs were cooked to perfection with fresh dill and mushrooms. I would have taken a picture of our scrambles, but I forgot to as I quickly inhaled breakfast. The dining room was fairly full, and only one waitress was working the floor, but service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant was clean and decorated with charm. If we are ever back in Long Beach, we will be stopping in for a meal! If we are in Long Beach again, we will definitely stop in for a meal.

Quaint flavorful breakfast spot. Expect $ 13 plates. Went with the reviews and got the smoked salmon scramble. Not exactly bursting with smoked salmon but really good. Eggs are done very well. Nothing ruins a scramble like overlooked eggs and they nailed it. The more I ate, the more I liked it. However, if I come again I’ll get the baked oyster omelette which my group also got. Looked fantastic! The jam made breakfast 10x better!

The décor is sort of generic café fare, but the service and the menu are definitely more upscale. The Razor clams were good, even though it was too much for me to finish. The staff was very friendly, the food tasted good and was very well presented, and service was good.

OK it was my first time here during my family vacation. We all had breakfast and I ordered the jumbaligh omelet. I ate nothing else the rest of the day, the food filled me up. Later that night I got sick to my stomach. Other then that the place is small, has a small town feel, and is nice inside. I just don’t foresee myself going back.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Food was decent but the service, oh my. And to me, service is pretty important, as much as the food actually. Seriously; I have been having a hard time finding decent service in this neck of the woods. The waitress literally rolled her eyes at us for asking a question about the menu. And there was only one other table there so forget about the«it was too busy and understaffed» excuse. I ordered quiche with side salad, quiche came out with a side of fruit. When I mentioned it she said«well yeah, that’s what it comes out with usually if you don’t mention anything»…but I DID mention it. She let out a big sigh and went back to the kitchen to get salad. We ate, food was good(nothing spectacular) while the so-called waitress rolled her eyes some more. Won’t be back, thanks to her.

We stopped by for breakfast on Mothers Day. Our timing was perfect, we didn’t even have a wait. The service was great, the food was good and the pricing was reasonable. It’s a quaint and cozy little place and they have delicious beignets. Yum! They also have their own sauces that are delicious.

Waking up in Long Beach to beautiful weather, started our search for a really good breakfast. I had seen 42nd Street Café and Bistro before, but never went in. We decided to look at the menu and then ate there and it was fantastic. There were at least 2 options for vegetarian’s and many more for people who wanted meat. Waitstaff was good and food came out nice and hot. Looking forward to going back, next time we are in town.

Just got back from brunch here, and it was pretty damn good. I wouldn’t say it was the BEST I’ve ever had, but given the limited brunch options in Long Beach, I was satisfied with our choice. We started with the beignets, which come 2 in an order. I really liked it a lot; it was warm, crispy goodness on the outside covered in powdered sugar, housing a yummy slightly dense cakey type of thing on the inside. Granted I’ve never had a beignet before so I’ve nothing to compare against, but I liked it a lot. I ordered the salmon scramble, the gf ordered the Hangtown Fry — an oven baked omelette w/oysters, spinach, Parmesan & green onions. We each liked our dishes pretty well. The eggs were cooked perfectly, not too dry & not runny at all; my scramble had a generous amount of salmon with it, topped w/Gruyère. Her omelette had a good proportion of ingredients as well– not too little, not too much. Beverages of choice consisted of spiked hot apple cider(butternut liquor) & the Manmosa(OJ, Brut, orangecello). Both were delicious. Overall I’d definitely recommend this place for brunch. I’d also like to add that the comments in some of the reviews about the red-headed server are dumb & off base. She has an assertive energy which I could see being misinterpreted by the more thin-skinned as rude, but it’s unwarranted. I think these people just didn’t engage her. When I did, I found her to be quite pleasant & nice to chat with. And as a server, she was attentive, professional, and certainly more than competent. Don’t believe the hype!
